[10:09:40] <jthornton> morning
[10:09:45] <XXCoder> yo
[10:09:53] <XXCoder> jthornton: I melted HDPE from milk jugs
[10:10:01] <XXCoder> it was easier, though still quite longer lol
[10:10:14] <XXCoder> its very slowly cooling off now
[10:12:22] <Deejay> yo :)
[10:12:46] <XXCoder> wats up
[10:12:49] <jthornton> did you get a good solid part?
[10:13:15] <Deejay> XXCoder, doing some recycling?
[10:13:26] <XXCoder> jthornton: I will know in around 45 minutes
[10:13:31] <XXCoder> it cools down very slowly.
[10:13:38] <XXCoder> Deejay: yep
[10:14:09] <jthornton> what temp and time did it take?
[10:14:22] <XXCoder> I started at 260
[10:14:34] <XXCoder> it took a while so I decided to ramp up to 300
[10:14:48] <XXCoder> it very slowly turned transparent so I went to 330
[10:15:03] <XXCoder> it took 40 minutes to completely go transparent
[10:15:10] <XXCoder> it never actually liquidifies
[10:16:06] <XXCoder> once it had no white left I baked the top pressor cake with parchment on bottom by it
[10:16:12] <XXCoder> so it is also hot
[10:16:34] <XXCoder> just few mins, then I took both and pressed it so there is no air voids

[10:51:10] <XXCoder> jthornton: little update
[10:51:22] <XXCoder> its still quite warm lol but solidified
[10:51:44] <XXCoder> its slightly burnt (330 is too hot I guess)
[10:52:05] <XXCoder> its not quite smooth, but I think thats because I did not clamp down in order to mold it to shape.
[10:53:05] <XXCoder> definitely need wood mold in order to properly shape it
[10:54:09] <SpeedEvil> I wonder if you can heat it to fully liquid under non-oxidising
[10:54:09] <XXCoder> anyway out to bed night
[10:54:11] <SpeedEvil> night
[10:54:29] <XXCoder> SpeedEvil: so far it seems to be no, there is no liquid state, just gel -> on fire
[10:54:35] <XXCoder> or smoking in least
[10:54:46] <SpeedEvil> XXCoder: non-oxidising
[10:54:49] <archivist> you need to learn casting and cooling rates, you get unequal shrinkage without some control
[10:54:51] <SpeedEvil> no oxygen
[10:54:55] <SpeedEvil> argon or ...
[10:55:03] <XXCoder> possible dunno
[10:55:17] <XXCoder> next time I will just stuff it in wood mold and use c clamps
[10:55:24] <XXCoder> see if get good shape for milling
[10:55:27] <XXCoder> laters
[10:56:17] <archivist> and a little voodoo required :)
[11:06:26] <jthornton> maybe under pressure it will go to liquid
[11:10:29] <jthornton> The plastic is heated to around 170ÂșC and then fed into two halves of a mould. The two halves are then closed up and compressed air is blown into the mould to form the bottle. The plastic bottle is then cooled, trimmed and quality-tested.
[11:11:25] <jthornton> so 338F is the molding temperature, I'd guess close to flame on
[11:33:43] <archivist> methinks for blowing they will want it in the plastic region rather than fully melted

[13:16:51] <_methods> yeah that's what i'll probably do with mine once i get a real saw

[13:59:15] <Polymorphism> a file is already open
[13:59:36] <Polymorphism> I haven't used linuxCNC yet, but that would be my guess
[14:01:10] <archivist> trying to run it twice?
[14:02:13] <Valen> Xxcoder if you are making blanks for test milling people use wax with ldpe in it

[19:16:25] <kj_> hey, I was wondering if anyone could help me troubleshoot my gecko g540 and linuxcnc setup on my first machine
[19:16:46] <MarkusBec> what ist the problem
[19:17:01] <kj_> when I run linuxcnc, the gecko comes out of fault and the steppers start buzzing, but I can't "power on" in the interface so I can try jogging them
[19:18:02] <Polymorphism> its a hardware or software issue
[19:19:42] <MarkusBec> the geko has a CHARGE PUMP feature
[19:19:57] <MarkusBec> you have to toggle this pin to startup
[19:20:24] <MarkusBec> toggle periodicly
[19:20:24] <kj_> ok. i think that's what I'm doing. pin 16 is set to charge pump in the stepconf wizard
[19:21:21] <MarkusBec> dont conect the fault feature at initial deebug and estop in stepconf
[19:22:03] <MarkusBec> first test your motors disconnected from your cnc
[19:22:37] <MarkusBec> if this ist not connfiguered properly it is impossible to start the controller
[19:22:59] -!- BeachBumPete has quit [Quit: I'm Outta here!!]

[19:23:57] -!- AR_ has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
[19:24:37] <kj_> I've got them sitting disconnected. There was an "estop in" on pin 15 I tried setting to unused
[19:24:57] <kj_> it stays in fault mode doing that though
[19:26:04] <MarkusBec> hm bad cables ?
[19:27:48] <kj_> possible. My feeling is I've got some settings messed up somewhere and I just can't see it due to inexperience
[19:28:43] <MarkusBec> hm stepconf wizard is strade forward
[19:28:58] <MarkusBec> ah
[19:29:22] <MarkusBec> ther are 2 feeld in linuxcnc you have to unlock the estop and start mashine
[19:29:31] <MarkusBec> in the linuxcnc gui
[19:30:47] <FloppyDisk> what about homing? Did you disable home or actually do a home?
[19:30:57] <kj_> i can't toggle the gui estop button if that's what oy mean?
[19:31:04] <MarkusBec> ah
[19:31:14] <kj_> home button is disabled right now
[19:31:25] <MarkusBec> if you masse up youre homing
[19:31:30] <MarkusBec> hm
[19:32:02] <MarkusBec> you only connected charge pumpe step/dir of the motor?
[19:32:04] <archivist> there are two steps to start it, power on then out of estop
[19:32:05] <MarkusBec> and
[19:32:20] <archivist> f1 then f2
[19:32:42] <MarkusBec> in stepconf
[19:32:57] <MarkusBec> and dissbaled the homing inputs
[19:33:15] <MarkusBec> homing button can trigger the estop
[19:34:59] <kj_> I set the 4 inputs (that I think are for homing?) to unused with no change
[19:35:50] <kj_> I think the charge pump works since it comes out of fault when I launch the software
[19:36:00] -!- Robh__ [Robh__!~R@97e428d3.skybroadband.com] has joined #linuxcnc
[19:36:23] <MarkusBec> hm if you dont have connected any inputs
[19:36:30] <MarkusBec> linuxcnc musst start up
[19:36:55] <kj_> I've got the required estop jumper hooked up from pin 10 to ground on the g540
[19:37:40] <MarkusBec> can you paste your config file?
[19:38:06] <kj_> sure. the hal?

[19:44:44] <MarkusBec> there is your problem
[19:46:18] <kj_> does that need to be set to unused?
[19:47:04] <MarkusBec> yes
[19:47:18] <MarkusBec> fore testing
[19:47:20] <kj_> I thought I tried that before.. but hey! I can jog!
[19:47:25] <kj_> :)
[19:48:08] <kj_> so thanks!
[19:48:13] <MarkusBec> btw btw
[19:48:28] <MarkusBec> later it is better to use the estop latch funktion
[19:48:29] <MarkusBec> http://www.linuxcnc.org/docs/2.6/html/man/man9/estop_latch.9.html
[19:48:38] <MarkusBec> if you use a external estop
[19:49:31] <kj_> I do plan on adding a real estop switch at some point soon
[19:50:34] <MarkusBec> with the default die SW estop like pressing esc are not working properly
[19:50:43] <MarkusBec> esc button
[19:50:43] <kj_> so if I understand this correctly, the g540 has it's own estop pins, but those don't inform linuxcnc about that happening? so I need another pin that the software can read?
[19:51:16] <MarkusBec> i think you have to invert this pin
[19:51:29] <MarkusBec> in sw
[19:52:31] <kj_> yeah, inverting "estop in" on pin 15 works

[22:46:45] <sliptonic> If I 'home all' in axis on my scara robot, the first axis to home (Z) gets a following error every time. But if I home the axis solo, it works perfectly every time.
[22:47:19] <XXCoder> thats weird
[22:47:22] <sliptonic> servo loops are reasonably well tuned and I can jog the axis much faster than the homing velocity without error.
[22:47:29] <Tom_itx> drawing too much current?
[22:47:40] <Tom_itx> doing all at once
[22:47:50] <sliptonic> Nope, they home sequentially.
[22:47:55] <Tom_itx> or generating too much noise
[22:48:07] <Tom_itx> hmm
[22:49:06] <pcw_home> Kins issue?

[22:49:56] <pcw_home> plotting the FE will give you an idea of what the cause is
[22:50:02] <XXCoder> sliptonic: how do it home? switches?
[22:50:31] <sliptonic> possibly. Configuring scarakins is a pain. I'm not in world mode though, if that matters. Homed with switches.
[22:51:00] <pcw_home> also if homing to index can cause a thump if the PID comp is not connected to index
[22:51:21] <pcw_home> index-enable I mean
[22:51:30] <CaptHindsight> pcw_home: how fast are the analog outs 0-10V on the 7i77's?
[22:51:52] <pcw_home> about 2.5 KHz
[22:52:00] <CaptHindsight> thanks
[22:52:37] <pcw_home> ~3 db down at 2.5 KHz
