[03:18:30] <Tom_itx> dunno, just looked like it was missing
[03:18:41] <PetefromTn_> no its still on there ;)
[03:18:52] <PetefromTn_> the Z axis motor is removed however
[03:19:51] <PetefromTn_> the big news tho is that the big electronics cabinet is now 10 inches lower and six inches to the right of where it was before
[03:19:51] -!- ve7it has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
[03:20:40] <PetefromTn_> we were able to also adjust the cables to run more smoothly with less kinks on their way to the millhead cable chain.
[03:21:14] <PetefromTn_> once we got it on the skids
[03:21:20] <PetefromTn_> I took some quick measurements
[03:22:11] <PetefromTn_> right now as it sits the highest point from the ground is the mount for the Z motor and it is right at 80 3/8 inches
[03:22:47] <PetefromTn_> my garage shop door is about 82 1/2 inches high so it will easily go thru and a standard door should be 84 inches
[03:22:59] <PetefromTn_> so basically this machine can now be put in any garage
[03:23:11] <Tom_itx> drop it by
[03:23:30] <PetefromTn_> sure when can you cut a check? ;)
[03:23:39] <Tom_itx> any time
[03:23:44] <Tom_itx> may not be good though
[03:24:22] <PetefromTn_> I am honestly quite excited that it will go easily now because that was a big deal when I first bought it. It also made getting it off the truck and into the building a bit more complicated.
[03:26:53] <PetefromTn_> another nice side effect is the cabinet since it is now much lower and not on top of that huge heavy transformer box is much easier to work on at eye level for most of my components

[12:57:56] <OdinYggd> actually now that I think about it, it would be really interesting if LinuxCNC supported the servocard in the Prototrak M2. Would be a drop-in upgrade to give them new features

[12:59:32] <Simonious> I suppose I could put a smoothieboard in between the PC and the Router, but.. then I don't need linuxCNC or the PC really
[12:59:33] <OdinYggd> you enter a situation where a USB connected CNC works just fine
[13:00:21] <Simonious> yeah.. I think that is a different scenario than I was thinking - I was thinking gecko drivers and endstops and PC..
[13:00:26] <OdinYggd> It moves the loop-closing from the PC out to a controller card, which is given a position and feedrate then moves there and holds by itself
[13:00:50] <Simonious> right, but if I've got a controller card I hardly need the PC and linuxCNC - re smoothieboard

[16:42:05] <lair82> Good Afternoon guys, I have been watching the machine that is suspected of memory leaks, that is using gmoccapy, and the memory hasn't gone over 6% watching it with "top", but the CPU has gradually gone up to right now, 71%. It was at roughly 20% when we restarted the control, and I started watching this. Any thoughts?
[16:42:55] <Sync_> well, what is using the cpu?
[16:43:18] <CaptHindsight> I guess they are still fixing the memory leak
[16:43:26] <CaptHindsight> there was some recent patch

[16:48:20] <Sync_> well, I guess you have to ask norbert
[16:48:40] <lair82> The only mem leak fix I see was on that xhc-hb04 pendant
[16:50:08] <CaptHindsight> what's gmoccapy doing? rendering moving graphics? Just sitting there idling as far as you know?
[16:51:12] <pcw_home> its idling with the gas and brakes on
[16:51:44] <Sync_> well, that's the way to do it to get the brakes nice and hot

[16:55:08] <lair82> The gui just slowly starts lagging in regards to screen refresh, and commands with the touch screen actually happening
[16:56:15] <lair82> once it starts lagging, it gradually gets worse and worse until it is pretty much froze up, and we have to hard reset the PC, then restart everything
[16:56:49] <CaptHindsight> is this the only machine with this config of gmoccapy that you have?
[16:56:50] <pcw_home> not that its a real fix but you did have one core turned off in the BIOS
[16:56:51] <pcw_home> re-enabling this will help speed wise (for a while anyway)
[16:57:49] <CaptHindsight> why is one core turned off?
[16:57:57] <lair82> When I reset it last thursday afternoon, according to "top" it was around 20% CPU, and 2.5% memory, yesterday it was roughly 55% cpu, and 5.8% memory
[16:58:23] <lair82> and today it is what the screen grab shows
[16:59:45] <lair82> Again me not knowing near what you guys know, I was under the impression that it was best to "isolcpus=1" so in the bios, I set it to 1 cpu
[17:00:35] <lair82> I'm going to ask the operator if he is noticing anything with the control hanging up, BRB
[17:01:15] <CaptHindsight> isolcpus=1 is a kernel option, it doesn't turn off any cpu cores
[17:01:45] <CaptHindsight> it isolates the real time applications to run on only one core
[17:02:27] <CaptHindsight> your BIOS might have an option to turn cpu cores ON/OFF individually, this is not the same thing as "isolcpus=1"
[17:02:57] <lair82> Oh, well that goes to show where I'm at with it. I was setting it in the bios, so it doesn't have a choice in that matter I guess.
[17:03:31] <FloppyDisk5_25> lair82 - Sorry to bother you, what command did you get to get the listing of %CPU, Mem, etc? Thanks.
[17:03:41] <lair82> top
[17:03:54] <pcw_home> In my experience isolcpus is bad for Preempt-RT network latency you want all the horsepower you've got
[17:04:24] <CaptHindsight> FloppyDisk5_25:
http://linux.die.net/man/1/top
[17:04:46] <FloppyDisk5_25> Thanks!
[17:05:36] <CaptHindsight> lair82: are you running a RTAI or preempt-rt kernel?
[17:05:52] <pcw_home> On RTAI parallel port systems isolcpus may make sense, but not on Preempt-RT
[17:05:57] <lair82> I believe that is in effect on that machine, as goes for the other 2 turning centers as well. All 3 Turning centers have pretty much carbon copy builds; hardware, gui, options etc, but the other machines don't run half as much as this machine does, it runs 10hrs a day, 6 days a week
[17:06:24] <CaptHindsight> lair82: turn all the cores on in the BIOS settings
[17:06:32] <lair82> RTAI, this is still ubuntu 10.04 running a 5i23
[17:07:12] <lair82> The operator said he hasn't noticed anything yet
[17:09:33] <pcw_home> unless you are running a parallel port system I would not use isolcpus or disable any cores, it just makes everything slower
[17:09:45] <CaptHindsight> restarting every day might be the temporary fix
[17:11:00] <CaptHindsight> RTAI <2013 was pretty broken

[18:14:56] <tiwake> donno why... maybe because I rinse them off after dying?
[18:15:06] <tiwake> with distilled water
[18:15:19] <tiwake> maybe something else should be used
[18:15:53] <CaptHindsight> you rinse them off with DI water after using the solvent dye?

[18:16:11] <CaptHindsight> no need

[18:17:39] <tiwake> CaptHindsight: well, I'm not going to be anodizing anymore I don't think

[20:10:13] <OdinYggd> If you have any connection to the defendant you are excused from the jury for that case
[20:10:21] <witnit> I didnt
[20:10:39] <witnit> they werent a fan of my stance on vigilante justice
[20:10:41] <OdinYggd> The point of the jury is given only the facts presented is there enough evidence for a yes or no

[20:11:43] <OdinYggd> Where I live at least they match your wages if oyu would have missed work
[20:11:49] <OdinYggd> And if you are unemployed, you get minimum wage
[20:11:54] <witnit> typical
[20:12:14] <OdinYggd> My wife made a lot of money doing it for a couple weeks
[20:12:17] <CaptHindsight> "yer honor, I kin tell just by lookin in his eyes if he's guilty or not"

[20:12:38] <witnit> imo
[20:12:39] <OdinYggd> All of the cases she heard were petty stuff like dudes not paying child support or caught shoplifting from walmart
[20:12:48] <witnit> this was much different type of case
[20:12:51] <OdinYggd> High profile stuff gets its own jury just for that case
[20:13:16] <witnit> violent case retaliation from what I could gather
[20:13:47] <OdinYggd> egh, those get a bit ugly
[20:14:09] <OdinYggd> You appeared when summoned and they simply chose not to seat you on a jury?
[20:14:40] <CaptHindsight> Do let let you out of jury duty if you call on the invisible angry man in the sky for help?
[20:15:02] <OdinYggd> Nope.
[20:15:15] <SpeedEvil> I got out of jury duty by simply explaining my health issues.
[20:15:24] <SpeedEvil> I'd love to have done it
[20:15:27] <OdinYggd> If you do anything disruptive or obviously with the intention of getting out, you get charged with contempt of court
[20:15:28] <_methods> just say the magic words
[20:15:32] <_methods> jury nullification
[20:15:44] <OdinYggd> but they will let you out for health reasons, if you have a sufficiently important job like a firefighter or a doctor
[20:15:49] <_methods> if you even mention that they basically kick you out of the court house
[20:15:52] <OdinYggd> and a couple other scenarios
[20:16:14] <OdinYggd> Once you've been summoned, as long as you show up even if oyu don't get seated as a juror they won't call you again for roughly 7 years
[20:16:31] <OdinYggd> Try to get out of it though and oyu get called again- as a defendant instead of a juror
[20:17:09] <OdinYggd> Now that I think about it, its been a while since they've called me.
[20:17:23] <OdinYggd> Oh well. Don't ask maybe I have a few more years left
[20:17:53] <OdinYggd> Last time they sent for me I reported as ordered, but the case settled perhaps 10 minutes before juror selection began
[20:17:54] <CaptHindsight> is disruptive anything like inappropriate behavior in grades K-12?
[20:17:56] -!- eFuchs_mobil has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
[20:18:00] <witnit> providing it were a different type of case I would have been fine with it, this particular one I was uncomfortable with
[20:18:25] <OdinYggd> Well, as long as you reported when ordered and were told that you could go home again you're in the clear for 7 yeras
[20:18:28] <OdinYggd> *years
[20:18:47] <OdinYggd> Not showing up or intentionally being an ass to get kicked out brings bad news
[20:19:07] <CaptHindsight> define ass
[20:19:19] <OdinYggd> Most of what you're thinking CaptHindsight
[20:20:11] <OdinYggd> In fact I'd bet anything that would get speedevil to kneecap you in ##electronics would get you in a heap of trouble at the courthouse
[20:20:17] <CaptHindsight> so if you respectfully disagree with the law or rules in question that is contempt?
[20:20:32] <OdinYggd> depends on how you express it
[20:20:32] <witnit> well all the other jurors were agreeing with my answers and just using my answers when they attorneys were asking them the same thing so I feel like I had plenty of support. no its not, I told them i disagree
[20:20:43] <OdinYggd> If you're willing to takl it out calmly and explain why you feel that way, they might be willing to hear it.
[20:20:49] <OdinYggd> Going off on people like a brat will get you arrested
[20:21:06] <witnit> its like even if you know the law is there if you dont agree with the law they would rather know before they pick you
[20:21:17] <OdinYggd> It is after all the jury that suggests how a law be applied to a situation
[20:21:18] <CaptHindsight> you must be used to being mostly around the average public then
[20:21:22] <OdinYggd> So if the law doesn't apply, its part of your job to say so
[20:21:37] <OdinYggd> Usually the lawyers will pick up on that before you do though
[20:22:13] <witnit> yeah it doesnt really matter what your opinion is, but they clearly are looking for people who would keep the jury from coming to a verdict
[20:22:37] <witnit> errr gtg back to the shop busy day!
[20:22:49] <CaptHindsight> witnit: depends on the side
[20:22:53] <witnit> ^
[20:22:55] <CaptHindsight> thats the fun of it
[20:23:06] <witnit> if I wanted picked I would have lied to them
[20:23:17] <witnit> but i didnt want to judge that kind of case
[20:24:36] <CaptHindsight> best way to win is not play
[20:25:53] <OdinYggd> But you are required by law to show up when summoned.
[20:26:05] <OdinYggd> Beyond that, it is up to the lawyers if you will actually be seated as a juror
[20:26:42] <OdinYggd> each lawyer wants jurors likely to favor their side of the case after all, and the goal is a process of elimination until a roughly fair compromise is reached
[20:26:43] <CaptHindsight> I used to bring my kids with and ask where the day care was
[20:28:22] <CaptHindsight> they didn't even let me in
[20:28:34] <_methods> hehe

[20:29:37] <SpeedEvil> Similarly with speaking to people you are told you cannot.
[20:29:38] <_methods> then you never have to worry about it again
[20:29:47] <CaptHindsight> since it's off the rails, it's best to avoid it
[20:37:37] <CaptHindsight> it makes no sense that after you have paid for any felonies that you still loose your rights
[20:37:55] <CaptHindsight> it makes sense when you want an unfair system
[20:38:48] <XXCoder> yeah some groups keep trying to deny certain groups of people ability to vote
[20:38:59] <XXCoder> the reasoning is olvious.
[20:40:01] <CaptHindsight> with the highest incarceration rate of any country how are ex felons not peers?
[20:40:34] <CaptHindsight> how did we end up with a for profit prison system?
[20:44:25] <XXCoder> poticitians out to make money rather than create fair and balanced system for everyone.
[20:44:44] <XXCoder> CaptHindsight: we got HUGE miliary-industry complex due to this too.
[20:45:14] <CaptHindsight> Eisenhower warned of this in the 50's
[20:45:33] <XXCoder> just one plane project, if spent on college intead, would give everyone free PHD college for 100 years, and give everyone a free house with just leftovers after that.
[20:45:52] <CaptHindsight> but they don't matter
[20:46:04] <CaptHindsight> just people to abuse
[20:46:40] <CaptHindsight> and after you abuse them enough they even defend and feel comfortable with their abusers
[20:47:27] <CaptHindsight> prefer to be around, vote for, work for and follow
[20:47:40] <XXCoder> ah its called F-35

[22:52:38] <als> I just came across a could be bug if you start @ the beginning of a program Execute next line [T] and press T twice before it gets to the end of the first line it will chew up 2 lines of gcode if you start with ,Begin executing the current file [R] then pause and Execute next line [T] and press T twice it will not do 2 lines
[22:56:04] <CaptHindsight> als: try posting the bug if it's not already on the mail list

[22:56:40] <als> to the list or bug tracker
[22:57:09] <andypugh> Either.
[22:57:31] <als> will do
[22:57:53] <andypugh> But i think we need a clearer description of what you did, what happens and what you think should happen.
[22:58:29] <andypugh> I would expect the second behaviour to be correct?
[22:58:33] -!- chillly has quit [Quit: Ex-Chat]
[22:59:06] <andypugh> It is plausible that the OS GUI manager is queuing keystrokes, and that there isn’t much we can do about it.
[22:59:10] -!- md-2 has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
[23:00:22] <als> well if you start as I said press T twice anytime in the middle of the line it will run two lines also if you just use the arrow on axis you get the same thing
[23:02:26] <andypugh> I have to admit that I have never tried to single-step.
[23:03:28] <andypugh> But I would think that correct behaviour is to ignore step prodding unless it is in the paused state?
[23:04:07] <skunkworks> yes - if you hit t 3 times it runs the next 3 lines..
[23:04:14] <skunkworks> I don't know if that is a bug or not
[23:04:25] <skunkworks> seems like a os thing
[23:05:05] <skunkworks> If you had a physical button - I don't think you would have the same behavior (hooked to halui)
[23:13:56] -!- kalxas has quit [Quit: Goodbye]
[23:20:42] <andypugh> als: Interesting test, do you feel inclined to try it?
[23:24:03] <andypugh> You don’t need a physical button. This is going to sound wierd, but you could use a sim-pin GUI element to poke the HAL pin in halui and that will either work exactly like a physical button or like a GUI button. which might sound useless, but if the behaviour is different it tells us something. (If it is the same it tells us nothing).
http://linuxcnc.org/docs/2.7/html/man/man1/sim_pin.1.html
[23:24:24] <als> ya tomorrow
[23:24:45] <als> it does on a sim gui for sure
[23:25:38] <skunkworks> yes - if you click the single step button multible times - it remembers how many. Probably should be blocked while in motion
[23:26:23] <als> at least a warning in the docs
[23:26:51] <andypugh> sim-pin is a GUI element that automatically links to a HAL pin. It’s like a Halmeter that controls a pin rather than displays the value. (Actually, it can do both).
[23:33:24] <als> I'll check my physical button tomorrow
[23:35:06] <andypugh> It could be absolutely any button that is available on your system. You can reconfigure HAL on the fly.
[23:36:04] <andypugh> On a running system, open a teminal and type “halcmd -kf” and you can then unlink, link, setp, net in any way you want.
[23:36:05] <als> i have one in gui form and it does as explained
[23:36:39] <andypugh> Does it drive the Halui pin? (ie interact in the HAL layer)
[23:36:47] <als> yes
[23:36:59] <andypugh> Interesting.
[23:37:30] <als> but you get the same result using [T]
[23:38:25] <andypugh> It might be fun to halscope motion.program-line and the halui pin, that _should_ show if the GUI/OS is buffering button presses.

[23:48:31] <enleth> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nzLQCOjrywk - VFD works with the TNC control. Only thing left is a speed adjustment potentiometer on the factory panel.
[23:50:45] <enleth> Then some minor fixes (one of the handwheel detection switches is flaky and interrupts sometimes, some wiring need tidying up) and I can actually start wiring 7i77 in there

[23:56:44] <enleth> and I'm still taking care of some electrical/mechanical stuff in the machine, so a known good control that is properly fitted to the machine helps in debugging
