[02:05:35] <zeeshan|2> just found out that
[02:05:44] <zeeshan|2> a 1/4" end mill can take a .75" doc
[02:05:46] <zeeshan|2> at 5 ipm
[02:05:47] <zeeshan|2> lol
[02:05:50] <zeeshan|2> whoops
[02:06:00] <zeeshan|2> had to stop the prog :/
[02:06:03] <PetefromTn_> sorry guys got a phone call LOL
[02:06:21] <PetefromTn_> jdh it was pretty crazy LOL
[02:06:39] <PetefromTn_> my wife has been after me to get some new sticker tires for her SUV
[02:06:57] <PetefromTn_> and tomorrow we are supposed to be getting a bunch of snow so she was panicking
[02:07:10] <PetefromTn_> so I had to run down and get some new tires put on there...
[02:07:25] <PetefromTn_> while this was happening I got a call from the realtors
[02:07:36] <PetefromTn_> they wanted to show the house THIS AFTERNOON
[02:07:50] <PetefromTn_> so I had to get a ride back to the house to straighten up and show the house
[02:08:08] <PetefromTn_> met with them and showed the house and got a ride back to the tire store
[02:08:26] <PetefromTn_> paid the man for her new Good year mudders OUCH
[02:08:34] <PetefromTn_> then I get a call from the realtor again
[02:08:54] <PetefromTn_> it seem the people who came to see the house the second time really liked it
[02:09:03] <PetefromTn_> they put in a bid which is a kind of lowball offer
[02:09:11] <PetefromTn_> so we have to now counter offer
[02:09:17] <PetefromTn_> by tomorrow at 5pm
[02:09:35] <PetefromTn_> then I get another call from the realtors
[02:09:51] <PetefromTn_> they want to show the house to ANOTHER customer tomorrow afternoon
[02:10:00] <malcom2073> When it rains it pours
[02:10:02] <PetefromTn_> so yeah like I said pretty crazy day LOL
[02:10:14] <PetefromTn_> we are busy as hell at the race shop too
[02:10:45] <PetefromTn_> I was mocking up the 3 rotor 2" tube manifold all day and it is starting to look pretty awesome...
[02:11:05] <PetefromTn_> not much room when you add another rotor and a bigass turbo in there LOL
[02:11:34] <PetefromTn_> I am really starting to freak out about the house tho
[02:12:01] <PetefromTn_> if they accept our counter offer we will be balls to the wall fixing up the things they want fixed and packing our stuff for the move
[02:12:04] <CaptHindsight> decide on your bottom price
[02:12:22] <PetefromTn_> then I will have to find a way to move my machines without breaking the bank
[02:12:37] <PetefromTn_> PLUS we have to find a house in Florida to buy...
[02:12:50] <PetefromTn_> my wife and I are kinda overwhelmed LOL
[02:13:03] <CaptHindsight> ask them to give you 30 days of access to the garage :)
[02:13:07] <PetefromTn_> we always thought it would sell eventually especially with all the work we have been doing
[02:13:28] <PetefromTn_> well the offer said we would need to finish up the repairs and be out by march 3
[02:14:07] <PetefromTn_> we would probably need to have until april 3 realistically to do the stuff they need, arrange for the machines moving, and get all our stuff packed for the move.
[02:14:08] <jdh> wasnt' florida housing hit pretty hard? should be lots of things there
[02:14:16] <PetefromTn_> well it was actually
[02:14:32] <CaptHindsight> lots of "fixer uppers" as well
[02:14:33] <PetefromTn_> honestly if we had sold our house a year or so ago we would have been able to take our pick
[02:14:43] <PetefromTn_> but it is really coming back down there apparenlty
[02:15:00] <PetefromTn_> many of the smokin' deals we saw are not there or not as smoking now LOL
[02:15:06] <PetefromTn_> story of my life ;)
[02:15:12] <CaptHindsight> avoid the swampy areas
[02:15:29] <PetefromTn_> we want to be in the Port St. Lucie area where we were before...
[02:15:43] <PetefromTn_> I gotta say I am SOOOO excited that we actually got an offer for the house tho.
[02:15:55] <PetefromTn_> it was starting to feel like that was never gonna happen hehe
[02:17:19] <PetefromTn_> the thing that sucks tho is that by the time we pay the very good realtors and pay a little home improvement loan we took out awhile ago that is gonna take a chunk out of the total so we may have to get a little loan on the house in florida possibly.
[02:18:19] <CaptHindsight> you could get a 10K sq ft warehouse to convert to living space
[02:18:35] <PetefromTn_> LOL I would LOVE to do that

[02:20:08] <PetefromTn_> our house we rented in PSL when we lived down there had a huge bathtub/jacuzzi and she has not had one since so she is laying down the law LOL

[05:00:33] <zeeshan|2> PetefromTn_: how will you move the mill?
[05:00:49] <PetefromTn_> It would be nice to be able to pay a pro to move the machine down there at least the Cinci
[05:00:57] <zeeshan|2> prolly expensive
[05:01:12] <PetefromTn_> but I was thinking of doing it myself and renting someones dually and a flatbed trailer or something
[05:01:13] <zeeshan|2> howd you get it to your place?
[05:01:22] <PetefromTn_> it was not far away
[05:01:25] <bobo__> zeeshans mach moving co
[05:01:35] <zeeshan|2> bobo__: dont mention mach
[05:01:36] <zeeshan|2> thank u
[05:01:41] <PetefromTn_> I paid a rollback wrecker to move it
[05:01:44] <Jymmm> PetefromTn_: Not machinery, but it would have been cheaper for us to have a company move our shit instead of renting a 26f truck like we did AND had to make two trips.
[05:01:44] <zeeshan|2> i hate anything with tor
[05:01:47] <zeeshan|2> or mach in it
[05:01:47] <zeeshan|2> :P
[05:01:49] <PetefromTn_> only cost me like 75 bucks LOL
[05:01:55] <zeeshan|2> lol PetefromTn_nice

[05:02:17] <zeeshan|2> like my setup?
[05:03:12] <PetefromTn_> looks fine to me but I figured you would be doing a two sided setup and then rotate 90the other way for the holes
[05:03:45] <bobo__> zeeshan hope to see a Y-Tube on how you digitized that
[05:04:05] <zeeshan|2> PetefromTn_: this was less machining time
[05:04:09] <zeeshan|2> but more setup
[05:04:47] <zeeshan|2> if only i had an overarm for the mikron :(
[05:05:01] <PetefromTn_> if you only had a five axis ;)
[05:05:04] <zeeshan|2> hehe
[05:05:55] <bobo__> ask sync about a overarm ?
[05:05:59] <PetefromTn_> I just need a nice 3/2/2 in PSL hopefully with a pool for a decent price LOL
[05:06:12] <zeeshan|2> 3/2/2?
[05:06:47] <bobo__> the Euro is about $1.09 or less
[05:06:49] <PetefromTn_> 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom, 2 car garage LOL
[05:06:58] <zeeshan|2> ah
[05:07:09] <PetefromTn_> 4/3/2 would work too LOL
[05:08:07] <PetefromTn_> would be sweet to find a house with a nice big shop behind it too hehehe

[08:14:31] <Kucharsky> Hello guys, I'm in the middle of plowing through linuxcnc documentation (plan to read it all). Can someone explain me this part (i quote):
[08:14:52] <Kucharsky> ""PNCconf is made to help build configurations that utilize specific Mesa Anything I/O products.
[08:14:52] <Kucharsky>
[08:14:52] <Kucharsky> It can configure closed loop servo systems or hardware stepper systems. It uses a similar wizard approach as Stepconf (used for software stepping, parallel port driven systems).
[08:15:33] <Kucharsky> so if I'm using parport and sending step/dir signals to leadsine stepper drive
[08:15:34] <Kucharsky>
[08:15:50] <Kucharsky> does it count as hardware stepping or software stepping
[08:17:50] <Kucharsky> If it software, what counts as hardware stepping - I mean with hardware stepping what is L.cnc actually sending to output pins if not step dir signals?
[08:18:08] -!- vapula [vapula!~rolland@195.25.189.2] has joined #linuxcnc
[08:18:46] <archivist> software, parallel port is often setup with stepconf
[08:19:33] <archivist> hardware means an fpga is creating the step signal
[08:19:45] <Kucharsky> I see
[08:20:37] <Kucharsky> and what is linux cnc sendin to such fpga card when it wants to move axes?
[08:20:51] <Kucharsky> also step dirs?
[08:21:06] <archivist> a number , how many steps etc
[08:21:38] <Kucharsky> ok i see
[08:22:20] <Kucharsky> archivist: thank you
[08:22:56] <archivist> I have stepper systems at the moment
[08:23:23] <Kucharsky> hardware or software driven?
[08:23:40] <archivist> software
[08:25:30] <Kucharsky> I've been doing l.cnc reaserch on and off for last few months never had possibility to acutally play with any hardware - kids, wife, small apartametn, work
[08:26:12] <Kucharsky> but this stuff is so fascination that I'm not gonna give up this time
[08:26:13] <archivist> I lurked in here for about 6 months to a year before my first machine was up and running
[08:26:45] <Kucharsky> yeah, good place to find help fast this channel
[08:26:55] <Kucharsky> where are U from?
[08:27:43] <archivist> England
[08:28:01] <Kucharsky> I'm from Poland, warsaw
[08:28:40] <Kucharsky> lot's of P. folks up there in your country I guess ;)
[08:29:37] <archivist> yup
[08:30:02] <Kucharsky> Few weeks ago I managed to buy used rexreoth linear systems with ac servos
[08:30:04] <Kucharsky> http://olx.pl/oferta/frezarka-stol-krzyzowy-CID619-IDcVng1.html#b30b2a990a
[08:30:18] <Kucharsky> so this is gonna be the base of my machine
[08:31:00] <Kucharsky> finally made big commitment to cnc project so I guess U'll be seeing me here quite often
[08:31:18] <archivist> with servos it is better to go with a mesa card
[08:31:32] <Kucharsky> You're right
[08:31:55] <Kucharsky> but beyond my reach right now
[08:32:32] <Kucharsky> so plan to go easy and simple for now, ant when I learn sth i'll play with servos and more expensive hardware

[12:29:28] <Frank__> no problems with breaking the tap?
[12:29:58] <ReadError> hmm you shouldnt need to thread the rail
[12:30:08] <ReadError> just the material you attach it to
[12:30:30] <Frank__> not the rail the steel structure threads
[12:30:47] <Frank__> i guess regular ones do the job

[12:52:44] <Frank__> thanks
[12:53:28] <ReadError> i have the 'wide' ones
[12:54:06] <ReadError> but i imagine you need to size the screws for the material you are attaching + depth you can screw in
[12:54:40] <Frank__> its mild steel i have about 3/4inch of material to drill and tap if i want
[12:54:41] <archivist> the main strength of a screw is in about the first n turns depending on diameter etc
[12:55:02] <Frank__> i should buy a spiral tap and make a blind hole right?
[12:55:05] <Frank__> much less hassle
[12:55:19] <Frank__> than drilling about 15mm of steel times 100
[12:55:49] <archivist> drill through and no possibility of problems

[16:07:42] <Erant> pcw_home: I seem to have a problem with my drives that prevent me from hooking up the RS232 and the 5I25 + 7I78 at the same time. The drives just straight up refuse to power on.
[16:08:12] <Erant> It's not anything I'm particularly worried about becuse I only need the RS232 for programming, but I'm curious as to why that would happen.
[16:08:29] <Erant> The RS232 is hooked up to the same PC as the the 5i25.
[16:09:13] <Erant> My theory was differing ground potentials, but that seems... unlikely.
[16:10:34] <CaptHindsight> Erant: what "drives"? Hard drives? SSD or mechanical? And what exactly happens or doesn't happen?
[16:11:47] <CaptHindsight> how is the RS232 port attached to the mainboard? Integrated, PCI, PCIe etc?
[16:11:48] <Erant> My servo drives.
[16:11:57] <Erant> Integrated onto mobo.
[16:12:44] <CaptHindsight> you have to post a wiring diagram and pictures of the system for us to start analyzing
[16:13:30] <CaptHindsight> JT started a thread about a wiring issue and it when one for weeks, it might still be going :)
[16:13:38] <CaptHindsight> one/on
[16:13:49] <pcw_home> maybe the drives have a problem if the RS-232 and step/dir grounds are commoned
[16:14:48] <Erant> Yeah, I will. It's a fairly dead-simple diagram though. STEP/DIR/GND are wired to the 7i78, step and dir are diff pair, two conductors for GND. RS232 is, well, RS232. :)
[16:15:33] <Erant> Yeah, maybe. It's not a huge concern, the only thing I'm worried about is if the problem re-occurs with RS485.
[16:15:41] <Erant> Which is what they use for error reporting.
[16:16:16] <Erant> I was just reminded of the problem when you mentioned some MBs don't like the 5i25.
[16:17:18] <Erant> Need to hook up my spindle first anyway.
[16:17:20] <pcw_home> thats pretty rare though (maybe 5 MBs total)
[16:17:46] <Erant> Which probably means they're not compliant with the PCI spec.
[16:17:50] <pcw_home> (and we have ~5K 5I25s sold)
[16:18:18] <pcw_home> sometimes a BIOS upgrade fixes it
[16:18:29] <Erant> Definitely non-compliance.
[16:18:32] <CaptHindsight> more likely that those MB's are not compliant
[16:18:44] <CaptHindsight> or poorly designed
[16:19:32] <Erant> Yah.
[16:19:43] <Erant> What's the usual interface for a spindle btw?
[16:19:52] <CaptHindsight> designing motherboards is not for the faint of heart, yet most are made by the 1000 monkeys approach
[16:20:08] <CaptHindsight> they keep revising until it passes enough tests
[16:20:08] <pcw_home> hard to tell since most are old enough and hard to get that I cannot reproduce it here
[16:20:20] <CaptHindsight> vs just having a few people do it right
[16:20:21] <Erant> They take the reference design, mostly.
[16:20:43] <CaptHindsight> they take 1000 noobs and make a board
[16:20:59] <CaptHindsight> vs 1-2 old/experienced people
[16:21:46] <Erant> I have a brushless spindle with a driver board that interfaces to a pot and drives a little LCD. I was going to go reverse engineer it this week and see where to hook in.

[20:44:57] <gregcnc> learning mandarin and cantonese would help
[20:45:05] <CaptHindsight> actually they don't see it as junk
[20:45:25] <CaptHindsight> doesn't matter
[20:45:40] <gregcnc> they don't actually care as long as it's good enough to get USD into China
[20:45:49] <CaptHindsight> even if they speak fluent English
[20:46:25] -!- jduhls1 has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
[20:46:32] <CaptHindsight> I used to ask potential partners 4-5 questions in one email and get an answer to maybe one
[20:47:06] <CaptHindsight> and usually it was an answer to what they thought I was trying to "get at" vs what I actually asked
[20:47:34] <gregcnc> I think part of the problem is that some "companies" aren't really. they are just reps of some sort
[20:48:44] <CaptHindsight> and part of the culture and philosophy
[20:48:47] <gregcnc> so many places trying to sell the same product, you could start a new company everyday over there.
[20:49:03] <CaptHindsight> if they have lived at all in the west they get it
[20:49:42] <CaptHindsight> I cam across the same seller on ebay, amazon and aliexpress earlier today
[20:49:56] <CaptHindsight> similar pricing, way different delivery times
[20:49:56] <gregcnc> seen that
[20:50:15] <CaptHindsight> no direct contact info
[20:50:36] <CaptHindsight> sometimes you can search for their own website
[20:50:58] <gregcnc> yeah
[20:51:27] <gregcnc> how are you paying for stuff these days? is it still send a wire and hope?
[20:51:32] <CaptHindsight> ali-whatever blocks direct access like ebay and also intercepts your requests and sends them to whoever must pay them extra to get them
[20:51:54] <CaptHindsight> so basically useless
[20:52:40] <gregcnc> that's why I think they are represented by an agent
[20:52:43] <CaptHindsight> gregcnc: the honest vendors will take <100% with the balance after delivery
[20:52:59] <CaptHindsight> say 50% down and 50% after delivery
[20:53:03] <malcom2073> That's kinda why I like aliexpress, it is escrowed
[20:53:12] <CaptHindsight> they ASK for TT of 100%

[20:53:37] <CaptHindsight> the problem with aliexpres is that they always favor the vendor if there is a problem
[20:54:20] <CaptHindsight> I usually have someone in China order and pay them
[20:54:27] <CaptHindsight> whole different story then
[20:54:58] <gregcnc> yeah
[20:55:05] <CaptHindsight> but if I ask myself I can weed out the scammers pretty easily
[20:55:20] <malcom2073> CaptHindsight: Is that anecdotal, or is that documented somewhere?
[20:55:26] <CaptHindsight> they all want 100% up front and won't give you straight answers
[20:55:43] <malcom2073> All my experience thus far with disputes has been great, but personal experience is no subsitute for statistics
[20:55:44] <CaptHindsight> malcom2073: what exactly
[20:55:51] <malcom2073> CaptHindsight: Aliexpress favoring the vendor
[20:56:17] <CaptHindsight> malcom2073: I don't use them. What I've heard
[20:56:28] <CaptHindsight> maybe they have gotten better
[20:56:54] <CaptHindsight> malcom2073: have you had many disputes?
[20:58:16] <malcom2073> CaptHindsight: I've had a couple, maybe 4 in the past few years? Though it's all been cut and dry stuff, like misisng pieces, or items not being as advertized... but in all cases, aliexpress hasn't released funds to the vendor until we both agreed the dispute was setlled
