[00:39:06] <XXCoder> dang
[00:39:20] <zeeshan> from the membrane equations you get a displacement function
[00:39:26] <zeeshan> from that you can find the force distribution

[00:39:31] <zeeshan> :D
[00:40:36] * JT-Shop just homed the BP with NO sserial errors!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
[00:40:41] <andypugh> Those are very large constant terms. Why are they all *(-1) ?
[00:40:51] <zeeshan> nice jt!
[00:40:58] <XXCoder> negative vlues I guess
[00:41:23] -!- jdqx has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
[00:41:28] <JT-Shop> turned out AB servo wiring best practices was the best info
[00:41:31] <zeeshan> andypugh: -1^m is a good way to get alternating + / - values
[00:41:32] <zeeshan> like
[00:41:45] <zeeshan> x + y - 2x + 3y - 2x etc
[00:41:52] <zeeshan> that was a bad example
[00:42:08] <zeeshan> JT-Shop: what do you think did it?
[00:42:46] <JT-Shop> I followed the AB servo best wiring practices and took all the ground antennas out of my cabinet
[00:43:05] <JT-Shop> short story ground as close to break out as possible
[00:43:08] <andypugh> Ah, I wasn’t sure of operator precedence.
[00:43:42] <zeeshan> and that is me being dumb with the large constant values
[00:43:58] <zeeshan> im sure it would be fine with 5 terms
[00:44:26] <JT-Shop> so with that giant step I'll call it a night
[00:44:33] <JT-Shop> say goodnight Gracie
[00:45:02] <andypugh> JT-Shop: Changes in Hardware, Firmware, Software, Vapourware or Plasmaware?
[00:45:32] <JT-Shop> grounding
[00:45:48] <AndChat|323049> Wow, nice jtshop
[00:45:53] <JT-Shop> removed all the ground antennas and grounded all the shielded cables near the end
[00:45:59] <roycroft> heh
[00:46:03] <roycroft> i've been grounding today too
[00:46:11] <andypugh> Hardware? Best fix
[00:46:21] <roycroft> it must be a good day to get grounded
[00:46:33] <JT-Shop> or short grounded
[00:46:40] <andypugh> I was wondering aboue fixing the software. I am not sure if anyone else is working on that
[00:46:45] <Tom_itx> zeeshan, you neee a tool coming down on the surface of your logo
[00:46:46] <roycroft> i've been grounding fiber optic cables, though
[00:46:57] <Tom_itx> preferrably a ballnose
[00:47:13] <JT-Shop> anyway I'm heading in now
[00:47:16] <andypugh> How do you ground fibre? Impedence matched black-body?
[00:47:23] <AndChat|323049> Which end? Cabinet end
[00:47:25] <roycroft> the cables are shielded
[00:47:28] <roycroft> i ground the shield
[00:47:37] <roycroft> they're double shielded, actually
[00:47:43] <andypugh> Why?
[00:48:28] <roycroft> because when the backhoe locates the fiber and starts pulling on the conduit that it's in, the shielding sometimes keeps it from being damaged before the backhoe operator realises what he's done
[00:48:35] <AndChat|323049> I thought pcw said niches was going to work on the error checking, but I suppose there was no confirmation on that
[00:48:54] <roycroft> and also because if the fiber cables themselves are armored, there's no need to pull tracer wire through the conduit for locates
[00:48:57] <andypugh> Clearly there are things about fibre optics that my PhD in fibre optics from a long, loing, time ago didn’t include.
[00:48:58] <AndChat|323049> Ops, micges
[00:49:10] <roycroft> i install outside plant fiber
[00:49:15] <roycroft> not patch cables inside data centers
[00:49:32] <roycroft> did you take the course on using a backhoe for utility locates?
[00:49:38] -!- nickoe [nickoe!~quassel@91.150.252.103] has joined #linuxcnc
[00:50:26] <andypugh> I don’t see how grounded armour can stop the backhoe. But I can see how it might warn the two ends that bad stuff was happening.
[00:50:35] <roycroft> it doesn't stop it
[00:51:00] <roycroft> but when the operator starts digging and snags the conduit, he usually figures out what's happening before pulling it all the way out
[00:51:12] <roycroft> the armor makes the cable stronger, so it can get tugged on a bit without damaging the fiber
[00:51:24] <andypugh> How is that grounding?
[00:51:32] <roycroft> that's not grounding
[00:51:41] <roycroft> but we tie the armors together
[00:51:54] <roycroft> and then we can hook a utility locator on the armor at the head end
[00:52:08] <andypugh> Ah, OK, that part makes sense
[00:52:08] <roycroft> corning recommends we ground the armors at the head end as well
[00:52:13] <roycroft> so we ground them all
[00:52:18] <roycroft> then the locators come out
[00:52:29] <roycroft> they disconnect the ground on the cable they're going to locate
[00:52:45] <roycroft> hook the tone generator onto the disconnected cable
[00:52:48] <roycroft> and go out and do their thing
[00:52:50] <andypugh> I would suggest wiring the armout to 400V to persuade the backhoe guy to backhoe-off
[00:53:06] <roycroft> well we do have another issue
[00:53:12] <roycroft> tweaker-proofing our fiber plant
[00:53:21] <roycroft> tweakers cannot tell the difference between fiber and copper
[00:53:45] <andypugh> “tweakers” ?
[00:53:50] <roycroft> tweakers being people on methamphedamines, in case you use a different term in the uk
[00:54:00] <roycroft> i think the term you use is "glaswegians"
[00:54:01] <roycroft> :)
[00:54:26] <andypugh> In the context of cable theft it tends to be “pikeys”
[00:54:31] <roycroft> around here they steal copper to pay for meth
[00:54:57] <roycroft> several have killed themselves trying to steal active high voltage power cables
[00:55:09] <roycroft> but they will cut up fiber cables too, and then get mad that it's not copper
[00:55:12] <andypugh> I can only see that as a good thing
[00:55:21] <roycroft> yes, to the high voltage stuff
[00:55:25] <roycroft> darwin in action
[00:55:52] <roycroft> i had a cunning plan to install fiber vaults with false bottoms
[00:55:58] <roycroft> put the fiber under the false bottom
[00:56:05] <roycroft> and toss some sacrificial copper on top
[00:56:15] <roycroft> that was too expensive
[00:56:18] <andypugh> Frankly anyone who will steal £20 of cable and leave hundreds without telephone service is someone society does not want.
[00:56:51] <roycroft> so i got my vault manufacturer to make some vault doors that have recessed hasps that i can put padlocks on
[00:57:23] <roycroft> and there are covers on the recessed hasps that i screw down with an odd-size torx screw that hardly anyone can remove
[00:57:30] <roycroft> i think it's torx-33 or something like that
[00:57:36] <roycroft> it's a very unusual size
[00:57:37] <andypugh> Where I used to live (actually a posher area than where I am now someone stole the phone cables _and_ the road drain covers
[00:57:55] <roycroft> plus there are the standard (around here) pentagonal head bolts holding the doors down
[00:58:05] <Frank__> hello guys
[00:58:39] <Frank__> i have some news on my cnc router! today i have the steel home after the machining
[00:58:41] <roycroft> so tweakers have to 1, remove the 5-sided bolt (they never have the socket, so they spend hours with a screwdriver pushing on the things), 2. figure out how to get that odd size torxx screw out (it also has a pin in the center), and 3, cut the padlock off before they can get the vault open
[00:58:49] <Frank__> i still have to do all the holes... :/
[00:59:07] <andypugh> I wouldn’t advocate the death penaltly for what they do (or for anything) but when they do kill themselves doing it, I feel no sadness at all.
[00:59:11] <roycroft> in reality what they do is move a few meters over and open up a telco vault that's not secured at all and cut their cable out
[00:59:15] -!- basiclaser has quit [Quit: Connection closed for inactivity]
[00:59:44] <andypugh> Or, steal a car and drive it into the box?
[00:59:53] <roycroft> in the 8 years that my municipal fiber ring has been installed there's been at least a couple dozen cases where telco cable right next to my fiber was vandalized/stolen and my stuff was not touched
[00:59:58] <roycroft> they're underground vaults
[01:00:50] <Frank__> can i make a little question? after stress relief and machining when i got to clean the surface of the stelel i can scrap of with a file a kind of protection the steel has
[01:01:09] <Frank__> how can i take it off easily? scraping with the file is tedious and leaves marks
[01:01:48] <roycroft> start with hot rolled instead of cold rolled steel and then not worry about it? :)
[01:02:00] <roycroft> and then put it in a blasting cabinet after you finish machining
[01:02:09] <Frank__> its hot rolled steel
[01:02:15] <Frank__> (if ur talking to me hahaha)
[01:02:24] <roycroft> oh, there shouldn't be much stress to relieve then unless you stress it
[01:02:45] <roycroft> a lot of folks think that cold rolled steel is "better" than hot rolled because it looks prettier at the steel yard
[01:02:57] <roycroft> then they to machine it and complain
[01:03:04] <andypugh> Frank__: There is a film after machining, or after stress relieving?
[01:03:14] <Frank__> nono i already got it stress relieved but there is a thin film on the non machined steel
[01:03:30] <Frank__> that when i scrap it with a file pops
[01:03:40] <roycroft> what kind of finish do you need on it?
[01:03:44] <Frank__> i think its the crust that protects it?
[01:03:48] <Frank__> nothing special
[01:03:52] <roycroft> that's not to "protect" it
[01:03:54] <andypugh> Oxide, or a protective layer applies by the stress relivers?
[01:03:55] <Frank__> just cleaning the oxide
[01:04:11] <DaViruz> mill scale?
[01:04:16] <Frank__> i think so
[01:04:21] <roycroft> yeah, i think that's what he's talking about
[01:04:22] <Frank__> but now its more flimsy
[01:04:35] <roycroft> and seriously, if the parts are not too big, a blasting cabinet is perfect for that
[01:04:40] <andypugh> What material?
[01:04:48] <roycroft> toss some aluminium oxide in and shoot it with that
[01:04:53] <Frank__> but i see it too on the parts i scraped with the grinder and welded
[01:04:55] <Frank__> thats wired
[01:05:03] <Frank__> i think its from the stress relief process
[01:05:08] <andypugh> Is it a pretty blue colour?
[01:05:37] <Frank__> yes its really big haha
[01:05:40] <Frank__> 300 kg
[01:05:43] <roycroft> oh
[01:05:52] <Frank__> idk the color i see it black from the oil and dirt
[01:05:53] -!- nickoe has quit [Quit: No Ping reply in 180 seconds.]
[01:05:56] <roycroft> that's a lot of file work!
[01:06:20] <roycroft> so build a tent around the part
[01:06:38] <roycroft> and get one of those portable media blasters
[01:06:43] <roycroft> put on a body suit and respirator
[01:06:46] <Frank__> i have a 110-120 psi max compreessor is that enough?
[01:06:46] <roycroft> and blast it off
[01:06:57] <Frank__> isnt there another way, easyer?
[01:07:02] <roycroft> depends on how many cubic feet per minute
[01:07:05] <DaViruz> how perfect do you need it?
[01:07:09] <roycroft> a media blaster uses a *lot* of air
[01:07:09] <Frank__> i will put 2 coats of rust removal paint
[01:07:10] <andypugh> Is there an option to stress-relieve in an inert atmosphere?
[01:07:28] <DaViruz> i'd say rotary steel brush
[01:07:37] -!- nickoe [nickoe!~quassel@91.150.252.103] has joined #linuxcnc
[01:07:42] <roycroft> yeah, but even that's a lot of work on a 300kg part
[01:07:56] <DaViruz> i recently did a tractor.
[01:07:59] <roycroft> it's not as messy as media blasting outside of a cabinet though
[01:08:10] <Frank__> yes
[01:08:34] <DaViruz> took me and a friend about 3 hours, probably a lot more surface than your part
[01:08:39] <DaViruz> and a lot more details
[01:08:39] <andypugh> Frank__: I am still _very_ vague on what the problem is. But perhaps a variant of: http://www.surfox.com
[01:08:41] <roycroft> i have a bunch of 4" grinders with wire knot wheels on the for that purpose
[01:08:49] <Frank__> i will upload a photo
[01:08:52] <Frank__> give me a sec
[01:09:12] <roycroft> i dedicate a grinder for each metal i'm going to grind on
[01:09:21] <DaViruz> andypugh: what's the liquid used in those?
[01:09:42] <DaViruz> i was once working at a place where they used one with very poor ventilation (i was installing the ventilation actually)
[01:09:48] <DaViruz> had a terrible nose bleed afterwards
[01:09:48] <andypugh> <thinks> If I was selling a weld polisher, my web page would feature a much prettier weld than that one
[01:10:04] <DaViruz> which i never have usually

[01:12:39] <andypugh> Frank__: My advice is worth about half what you are paying for it, but I wouldn’t want to just paint that

[01:13:59] <andypugh> But, I would ask a paint supplier. There might be an etch primer that works, or they might know that that sort of oxidation has good adhesion.
[01:14:25] <Frank__> ok, got u
[01:14:28] <Frank__> thanks andy
[01:14:57] <andypugh> I guess you are using a commercial heat-treater?
[01:15:10] <Frank__> its a company
[01:15:17] <Frank__> the stress relief has already been done
[01:15:19] <andypugh> You could ask them about inert (or possibly reducing) atmosphere.
[01:16:09] <roycroft> interesting
[01:16:27] <roycroft> i was just looking at that surfox thing, thinking it might be useful for brewing gear
[01:16:36] <roycroft> but they say it's not food-rated
[01:16:37] OhmEye_ is now known as OhmEye
[01:16:53] <DaViruz> it seems most of those systems use phosphoric acid
[01:17:36] <roycroft> which is not only commonly used with brewing gear, it's commonly used to adjust the pH of beer wort
[01:17:53] <roycroft> but it would have to be food grade phosphoric acid
[01:18:23] <roycroft> and their product may be food grade
[01:18:28] <roycroft> but not tested for that
[01:19:09] <DaViruz> from what i've seen it works very well though
[01:20:15] <andypugh> You can buy food-grade Phosphoric Acid. It’s sold labelled “Coca Cola"
[01:20:15] <DaViruz> in my case though i need the oxide to stay there to hide my crappy welds.. :)
[01:21:18] <roycroft> my ss welder does decent work
[01:21:21] <roycroft> http://www.zymurgasm.com/NewBrewSystem/HLT/img_0767.jpeg
[01:21:23] <DaViruz> if you don't mind the part being all sticky and smelly afterwards
[01:21:47] <andypugh> You can wash it off with beer ;-)
[01:22:02] <roycroft> you can see the inside welds here
[01:22:03] <roycroft> http://www.zymurgasm.com/NewBrewSystem/HLT/img_0772.jpeg

[01:32:17] <roycroft> i wouldn't mind popping down as far as yorkshire, but i don't think i'd want to go too much further south
[01:32:20] <roycroft> unless i have a lot of time
[01:32:22] <andypugh> I am from Yorkshire, which is considered part of the North of England, though there are other counties further North, and then Scotland is about as much again on top of that
[01:32:42] <roycroft> i wasn't even planning on getting down to the borders
[01:33:11] <andypugh> Some great beers come from the Midlands. Burton on Trent is very much Midlands
[01:33:57] <andypugh> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brewers_of_Burton
[01:34:11] <roycroft> i anticipate a big loop from greenock/glasgow to edinburgh, up the coast to aberdeen, inverness, through the western highlands, and then catching the isle of skye and islay
[01:34:19] <roycroft> yes, burton beer is quite famous
[01:34:30] <roycroft> the water there is somewhat hard and sulphurous
[01:34:44] <roycroft> it brings out hop bitterness and flavor in an interesting way
[01:34:59] <andypugh> Indeed, and is done artificially
[01:35:00] <roycroft> we add "burton salts" to some english style beers, especially ipas, to try to replicate that
[01:35:10] <roycroft> my water is almost perfect for brewing
[01:35:13] <DaViruz> our water is also quite hard at the moment. it's freaking -40 celsius in some parts..
[01:35:17] <roycroft> very soft, pure glacier-fed water
[01:35:35] <roycroft> it's even softer than the water in plzen
[01:35:42] <roycroft> so i can make almost any beer with it
[01:35:51] <roycroft> it's a lot easier to add hardness than to remove it
[01:37:10] <andypugh> Bits of Glasgow and Greenock are a bit rough, but I guess you are in the US, so will scoff at what I consider rough, in that you are very unlikely to get shot or otherwise killed. You might find the locals less then polite, though.
[01:37:10] <roycroft> i should, while i'm on my trip, head down to yorkshire for some scrumpy
[01:37:24] <roycroft> i anticipate that
[01:37:40] <roycroft> and i anticipate being careful what parts of those cities to visit
[01:37:46] <roycroft> but i grew up in chicago
[01:37:50] -!- Pudlo has quit [Quit: Leaving.]
[01:38:01] <roycroft> the safe neighborhood boundaries are quite well defined there
[01:38:22] <roycroft> being one block off could mean the difference between being quite safe and in deep peril
[01:38:39] <andypugh> No Scrumpy on Yorkshire. That’s a Deep South drink, Dorset, Somerset etc. Also lovely parts of the world, and worth a visit
[01:38:54] <roycroft> i though there was yorkshire scrumpy as well
[01:38:59] <roycroft> i know they do a lot of that in the southwest
[01:39:07] <FloppyDisk> Wondering if any Siemen's pro's might have an idea for the amount I should sell this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/321968155303
[01:39:20] <roycroft> but you would know much better than i
[01:39:24] <roycroft> so i shall demur
[01:39:34] <andypugh> You should bear in mind that the UK is tiny. You can easily visit every corner.
[01:39:35] <FloppyDisk> REc'd an offer for $125, but seems low, could be wrong...
[01:39:39] <roycroft> yes
[01:39:47] <roycroft> scotland is the size of western oregon
[01:39:55] <roycroft> and has the same population as western oregon
[01:40:07] <FloppyDisk> roycroft????
[01:40:10] <roycroft> i think the whole of great britain is about the size of california
[01:40:16] <andypugh> If you come this far, then go to Ireland too.
[01:40:43] <roycroft> i did change planes in heathrow once, back in the '70s
[01:40:51] <roycroft> so it's not like i've never been to the uk at all
[01:40:55] <roycroft> but i don't think airports really count
[01:41:11] <andypugh> No, they are technicall in international waters
[01:41:26] <roycroft> as edward snowden found out

[01:43:11] <roycroft> i think i'd probably visit wales before ireland
[01:43:16] <roycroft> not that i have anything against ireland
[01:43:24] <roycroft> actually a trip dedicated to ireland would be nice
[01:43:37] <roycroft> see, i do have this problem
[01:43:45] <roycroft> i'm really big on history and tradition and local culture
[01:44:00] <andypugh> I like Wales, it is very scenic. I like Ireland more.
[01:44:01] <roycroft> and the british isles are quite full of all of that stuff
[01:44:13] <roycroft> so i'd want to spend a lot of time everywhere i go
[01:44:38] <roycroft> even though it's a relatively small place, i could easily spend a year or two there just getting around
[01:45:12] <roycroft> or should i say multiple summers?
[01:45:22] <roycroft> i'm not sure i'd want to go to scotland in the winter
[01:45:58] <andypugh> I keep meaning to.
[01:46:08] <roycroft> on the other hand
[01:46:16] <andypugh> It looks nice with snow. And they have skiing
[01:46:19] <roycroft> with 80 or so distilleries to visit, winter might not be so bad
[01:46:46] <roycroft> as one of my favorite musicians says "whisky is like a sweater that you wear on the inside"
[01:47:08] <roycroft> except i think he's talking about whiskey, not whisky
[01:47:12] <roycroft> but the point remains
[01:47:31] <andypugh> You should visit Yorkshite though. It is widely considered[1] to be the most scenic county, and to have lots of great beers.
[01:47:36] <roycroft> i'd like to

[01:48:06] <roycroft> and there's a *lot* of early history that happened in northumbria
[01:48:07] <andypugh> I just noticed my horrible typo...
[01:48:33] <roycroft> plus folks there have have that quaint parochial yorkshire dialect :)
[01:48:50] <andypugh> Ooh, yes. You can actually go to Lindisfarne for example.
[01:50:04] <roycroft> i need to head off to market now
[01:50:10] <roycroft> it's almost time to make dinner
[01:50:39] <roycroft> should my plans for the uk trip become more defnitive, i'll definitely chat with you some more about yorkshire

[03:59:32] <zeeshan> which has been curved already
[03:59:36] <zeeshan> and try to form it around it :p
[03:59:41] <zeeshan> i dont know how well it'd work, but it might..
[03:59:45] <zeeshan> using torches and stuff
[04:00:12] <bobo_> try using a english wheel
[04:00:16] <zeeshan> i dont have
[04:00:34] <zeeshan> i figured since i gotta get that big plate rolled
[04:00:37] <zeeshan> might as well get them both
[04:00:48] <zeeshan> then i can trim them on the mill
[04:01:03] <andypugh> Buy one of these.
[04:01:04] <andypugh> https://www.grizzly.com/products/30-Combination-3-in-1-Sheet-Metal-Machine/G4011
[04:01:24] <zeeshan> good for sheet metal
[04:01:32] <andypugh> I have one. I don’t use it much, but neither do I regret buying it
[04:01:49] <zeeshan> its a shear, roll and bender all in one?
[04:02:07] <andypugh> It would put the curve in, I think
[04:02:23] <Tom_itx> is it a compound curve or bowed in one direction?
[04:02:31] <zeeshan> Tom_itx: you got the model
[04:02:32] <zeeshan> and drawing !
[04:02:34] <andypugh> Yes, you can’t see the rolls in the photo as they are under a cover
[04:03:05] <Tom_itx> press the plate around a wood form
[04:03:15] <andypugh> it is a fair roll, an OK press-brake and a poor shear.
[04:03:57] <zeeshan> man i dont understand why ive been plagued with curved ass fucking projects
[04:03:58] <andypugh> it will cut 1mm aluminium well, any thicker or steel, it isn’t comfortable.
[04:04:06] <zeeshan> like every time its some guy wanting some curvuture bullshit
[04:04:14] <zeeshan> =(
[04:04:36] <zeeshan> andypugh: i'd want something that handles at least 1/4" steel
[04:04:42] <zeeshan> i bet the machine would need to weight 10000lb
[04:04:46] <zeeshan> *weigh
[04:05:09] <zeeshan> http://www.kubesteel.com/html/contact.htm

[04:05:33] <bobo_> http://www.grizzly.com/products/Professional-English-Wheel/T27621
[04:05:33] <zeeshan> problem with a lot of big companies is they dont want to deal with dinky little projects
[04:05:42] <zeeshan> bobo its 1/4"
[04:05:44] <zeeshan> not sheet metal
[04:05:55] <andypugh> How many do you need?
[04:06:01] <zeeshan> 1 of each
[04:06:24] <andypugh> How much will he pay?
[04:06:36] <zeeshan> whatever it costs :P
[04:06:52] <zeeshan> something reasonable
[04:06:57] <bobo_> so ,it's not a one time thru process
[04:07:00] <zeeshan> i mean if rolling these two things costs more than 400$
[04:07:04] <zeeshan> then i think its too expensive
[04:07:19] <zeeshan> its not like theyre machining it or anything
[04:07:21] <andypugh> For a 1-of that multi thing will definitely put that much curve in 1/4 steel. It will take time. At the end, you have a new tool.

[04:09:44] <andypugh> The company you looked at are too big. You just want a generic sheet metal shop that happens to have a set of rolls.

[22:15:48] <JoeHildreth> Two newbie questions? I am currently running LinuxCNC 2.6 and will soon update to 2.7. First Question, does the new motion controller from tormach replace the old, or do you have the choice of which to use?
[22:16:50] <JoeHildreth> Second, what is the difference between RTAI Kernel and the Preemptive realtime extensions?
[22:17:21] <PetefromTn_> anyone know if you can use a gift card AND a credit card to buy something on ebay or amazon?
[22:17:34] <skunkworks> by default the new Trajectory planner is on. You can turn it off and it falls back to 1 segment look-ahead. (ini setting)
[22:18:26] <JoeHildreth> So when I upgrade to 2.7 with and existing config, the new one will be turned on or will I have to ad it?
[22:18:47] <skunkworks> rtai is 'harder' realtime. If you plan on using the printer port for stepgen - then use rtai. if you have external hardware that is doing the stepgen (or whatever) then preempt will probably work just fine
[22:18:49] <JoeHildreth> Thank you skunkworks

[22:33:50] <JoeHildreth> skunkworks: Maybe you answered and I overlooked it. When I upgrade from 2.6 to 2.7 with an existing config, is the new motion planner in place or do I have to edit my ini file to make it work? Or is the ini file entry only to disable it?
[22:34:52] <andypugh> The INI stuff is to control or disable it. You chould get the new TP in default mode automatically.

[23:13:48] <PetefromTn_> if I were to have to do that I would definitely just make the fitment as perfect as possible and then fusion weld the whole thing after tacking carefully

[23:14:41] <JT-Shop> dang gimp is broken in linux mint
[23:15:26] <JT-Shop> when I tig I try and not use filler because I suck at it

[23:17:00] <PetefromTn_> yeah most things I do I gotta use filler and getting it to look even and consistent is REALLY a challenge. The guys who are into this high performance stuff are used to seeing eye candy pics of unbelievably good welds so even a good weld is looked down upon

[23:38:58] <andypugh> Of which?
[23:39:10] <malcom2073> That he's making in the DLP
[23:39:52] <PetefromTn_> I don't even understand how that damn thing works. Is it some kind of witchcraft or a miracle or something that the part just rises up out of the goo?
[23:40:21] <malcom2073> PetefromTn_: It's solidifying the top layer, then sinks down and solidifes another layer
[23:40:34] <PetefromTn_> how?
[23:40:41] <malcom2073> How does it sink down? linear actuator
[23:40:45] <malcom2073> it's on a plate that moves inside the goop
[23:40:55] <PetefromTn_> no how does it solidify the layer?
[23:41:01] <malcom2073> It's UV reactant
[23:41:02] <andypugh> Light
[23:41:12] <malcom2073> And the projector, you remove the UV filter on
[23:41:26] <PetefromTn_> so a laser then?
[23:41:36] <malcom2073> No, normal run of the mill PC projector
[23:41:49] <malcom2073> Only certain ones work though
[23:42:12] <malcom2073> You hook it to a PC, and have it display high contrast images of what you want it to make, layer by layer
[23:42:37] <andypugh> malcom2073: He almost immediately melts the plastic: https://picasaweb.google.com/108164504656404380542/Roj?authkey=Gv1sRgCJbSsrD-kfr3Hg#6237937108017418530
[23:42:56] <andypugh> To investment cast: https://picasaweb.google.com/108164504656404380542/Roj?authkey=Gv1sRgCJbSsrD-kfr3Hg#6237937109584277682
[23:43:01] <malcom2073> Ahhh cool, I had seen it was for investment casting
[23:43:06] <malcom2073> didn't see what itlooked like though
[23:43:13] <malcom2073> Cool
[23:43:39] <andypugh> I think he is still working on the details of the processes.
[23:44:00] <malcom2073> What, the investment casting?
[23:44:10] <andypugh> Yes. And the printing.
[23:44:21] <malcom2073> Cool, I've been thinking of getting a DLP printer
[23:44:23] <andypugh> I am sure he will get there
[23:44:30] <malcom2073> The price of the goop is a bit... meh though
[23:44:48] <andypugh> Yes, he floats his goop on a dense no-reacting other goop.
[23:45:03] <malcom2073> Yeah, a couple of the kickstarter designs use saltwater
[23:45:07] <JT-Shop> all these technical terms
[23:45:47] <andypugh> I think he uses something rather more exotic than water
[23:45:50] <PetefromTn_> my wife just got back from the grocery store and spent a TON of cash on food AND a bunch of lottery tickets LOL probably would have been better to flush the cash down the toilet here hehe
[23:46:22] <malcom2073> Probably depends on the goop you use
[23:46:30] <andypugh> She bought you the chance to speculate on what you would buy if you win.
[23:48:52] <PetefromTn_> yeah I would be happy if we even got a smaller prize somehow I am not greedy ;)
[23:50:13] <Tom_itx> PetefromTn_ i appreciate you donating to my winnings :D
[23:50:31] <PetefromTn_> Nope you donated to mine there Tommy
[23:50:34] <PetefromTn_> hehe
[23:50:57] <Tom_itx> i bet it passes 1 bilion
[23:51:00] <jdh> hey... everyone paypal me $5, I'll go buy some tickets and I'll split it
[23:51:08] <malcom2073> Haha
[23:51:10] * JT-Shop keeps his winnings
[23:51:38] <PetefromTn_> jdh there have been companies that have won that way combining etc
[23:52:24] <JT-Shop> I bought one square on a football pool once... won 3 quarters and never bet again
[23:53:11] <PetefromTn_> I only won one thing in my life...perhaps I am DUE?

[23:53:44] <malcom2073> My wife won't go get tickets, and I'm too lazy heh
[23:54:23] <andypugh> Big rollover in the US then?
[23:54:41] <Tom_itx> close to 1 billion
[23:54:53] <JT-Shop> my friends wife won $100,000 on a scratch off once
[23:55:04] <andypugh> It’s worth a few $ just to speculate what you would do
[23:55:26] <JT-Shop> I would not want that for sure
[23:55:34] <PetefromTn_> I have an uncle that met a woman after his wife died and they went to vegas to get married
[23:55:36] <Tom_itx> i look at it as cheap intertainment
[23:55:46] <JT-Shop> spend the rest of your life running from leaches
[23:55:54] <PetefromTn_> she won like 25 thousand bucks
[23:55:55] <Tom_itx> i've spent more than that on bad movies
[23:56:07] <PetefromTn_> and they bought a brand new caddilac and drove it home LOL
[23:56:36] <PetefromTn_> you win 900 million bucks you won't be running from shit unless you are an idiot LOL

[23:57:42] <Tom_itx> you collect probably less than half that ammount
[23:57:52] <andypugh> Aye, with 900 million you get the chance to make the world a slightly better place.
[23:57:55] <PetefromTn_> yeah everyone laments that
