Back
[00:00:29] <JT-Shop> I'd make the block big enough for that feature and just cut it away
[00:00:31] <Tom_itx> the hole hangs below the main body a bit
[00:00:37] <JT-Shop> then cut from the side
[00:00:37] <Tom_itx> i did
[00:00:56] <Tom_itx> my numbers are off somewhere a tiny bit
[00:01:58] <JT-Shop> I love drawings that make you think
[00:02:03] <Tom_itx> me too
[00:02:19] <malcom2073> You know what would be cool?
[00:02:24] <Tom_itx> other than the little holes i've about got it
[00:02:42] <malcom2073> If there was a software I could feed this into:
http://i.imgur.com/ZpsWXrD.png and it would generate two toolpaths, for two different size bits to draw down the center of the paths
[00:02:46] * JT-Shop wanders inside to cook some chicken and dumplings
[00:03:53] <Tom_itx> the path would be the same
[00:03:58] <Tom_itx> if it's center cut
[00:04:37] <malcom2073> I'd like to have it center cut that out
[00:04:42] <Tom_itx> what did you draw that in?
[00:04:48] <malcom2073> It's a SVG and DXF
[00:05:06] <Tom_itx> the 'tubes' is just a single cutter path?
[00:05:10] <malcom2073> yeah
[00:05:20] <malcom2073> I'd like it to be at least heh
[00:05:24] <Tom_itx> so draw a line down the center of them
[00:05:33] <Tom_itx> and around the center of the arc
[00:05:36] <malcom2073> That's fine for simple things like a line, but for things like th font, it's near impossible
[00:05:52] <Tom_itx> change the font?
[00:06:01] <malcom2073> I can't afford a full set of engraving fonts :P
[00:06:40] <malcom2073> engraving fonts == fonts that do exactly that, have lines down the middle. They're not typically cheap, and the free variety are really limited
[00:06:40] <Tom_itx> http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/pendant/pendant2.jpg
[00:06:44] <Tom_itx> i did those with mine
[00:06:57] <malcom2073> What font?
[00:07:03] <Tom_itx> i don't remember
[00:07:09] <Tom_itx> it's in the cad cam
[00:07:10] <malcom2073> More importantly, what did you use to output it?
[00:07:16] <Tom_itx> smartcam
[00:07:18] <malcom2073> Ah yeah,
[00:07:23] <malcom2073> That's cam specific heh
[00:07:30] <malcom2073> Standard system fonts don't do that :P
[00:07:45] <malcom2073> cambam has something similar, but I don't want to make this whole thing inside the cam package
[00:08:19] <Tom_itx> umm, i forget that graphic package...

[13:29:56] <tjtr33> http://www.curbellplastics.com/technical-resources/pdf/plastic-material-selection.pdf
[13:30:25] <enleth> pink_vampire: polyamide is softer, should be easier to get smooth continuous chip
[13:30:30] <pink_vampire> I know some plastics like to tear..
[13:30:41] <tjtr33> does that ^^^ suggest polyamide will handle higher temps? and maybe machine better at higher temps?
[13:30:49] <enleth> that too
[13:31:20] <enleth> polycarbonate machines pretty well but not sure about engraving
[13:32:10] <enleth> it may be more inclined to chip off under the cuttee's pressure rather than being sliced
[13:32:20] <enleth> *cutter's
[13:32:51] <pink_vampire> what is closer to plexigtass?
[13:32:57] <pink_vampire> glass*
[13:33:18] <enleth> imo polycarbonate, though it won't crack that badly
[13:33:56] <pink_vampire> foam pcv is soft and i cant machine it on my machine.

[20:32:13] <CaptHindsight> PCI, PCIe or Ethernet
[20:32:49] <CaptHindsight> and also what IO you need
[20:33:45] <g_mouer> any idea what ethernet boards would be comparable to the 5i25/7i77 combo? I'd like to look them over
[20:33:51] <ReadError> yea I think the 5i25 might be a bit limited IO wise
[20:33:58] <ReadError> in terms of pins available
[20:34:48] <CaptHindsight> also type of connector you want on the FPGA card, header vs external connector vs rj45
[20:35:18] <CaptHindsight> count up you motors and types, then all your IO
[20:35:27] <CaptHindsight> then you'll know what you need
[20:36:08] <g_mouer> readerror, what sort of machine are you looking at doing?
[20:36:23] <ReadError> right now I need 2 servos + encoders, 3 steppers
[20:36:43] <ReadError> and 8 output (just high/low)
[20:36:51] <ReadError> but eventually i will need more for feeders
[20:36:57] <ReadError> g_mouer, pick-n-place
[20:37:08] <CaptHindsight> I've ended up needing more than one
http://store.mesanet.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=69_62&product_id=78
[20:39:21] <CaptHindsight> other machines just a LPT cable and BOB
[20:39:57] <g_mouer> 5i25/7i77 would give you the servo/encoder capability with a bunch of I/O and the parallel port could do the steppers.
[20:43:37] <pcw_home> with a 5I25/7i77, the second 5i25 port can do steppers also
[20:55:56] <ReadError> http://store.mesanet.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=83_86&product_id=290
[20:56:12] <ReadError> I was confused about this, it says it supports daughter cards
[20:57:13] <ReadError> but then there is the 7I80 stuff
[20:57:58] <g_mouer> the 7i76 has a rs422 serial port than can interface to the mesa super serial expansion boards

[21:20:19] <Duc> afternoon
[21:24:27] * Loetmichel just had a discusion in another channel about old train models... which triggered me to umpack my old one i played with as a kid... after 30++ years in the cellar and 2 moves it STILL works... -> http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=13743&g2_imageViewsIndex=1
[21:26:08] <CaptHindsight> Loetmichel: what gauge is that N or Z?
[21:26:15] <Loetmichel> N
[21:26:42] <CaptHindsight> we used to have N and HO
[21:27:02] <Loetmichel> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VW2jTGHF5BA <- proof
[21:27:45] <Jymmm> This video is private.
[21:27:47] <Tom_itx> private
[21:27:50] <CaptHindsight> I seem to recall some relatives from Germany sending us some cars that were close to N but not exact, this was probably ~1975
[21:30:07] <Loetmichel> try again
[21:30:32] <Loetmichel> CaptHindsight: east germany by any chance=
[21:30:33] <Loetmichel> ?
[21:31:09] <Jymmm> Loetmichel: Now, make it go in figure eights!!!
[21:31:58] <CaptHindsight> LOL, the ones there escaped to Poland in the late 40's, not sure if that was any better :)
[21:32:35] <Loetmichel> CaptHindsight: because i remember east germany having a "not quite N size"
[21:32:40] <Jymmm> Loetmichel: Choo Choo trains and slushy machines... reliving your youth?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9FRqvhL4vI
[21:32:44] <Loetmichel> but i cant remember the name
[21:33:03] <Loetmichel> Jymmm: more my age ;)
[21:33:11] <CaptHindsight> Loetmichel: but I don't think that they could have mailed us anything, we used to ship them supplies
[21:33:14] <Jymmm> Loetmichel: lol, carry on!!!
[21:33:54] <CaptHindsight> Loetmichel: they trains sent were probably purchased in the Munich area
[21:34:00] <Tom_itx> let your train do the typing
[21:34:31] <CaptHindsight> I just read that there was a German version of N that used larger flanges on the wheels
[21:34:37] <CaptHindsight> that must have been it
[21:36:48] <CaptHindsight> or "Many older N scale models may not run well on Code 55 track as their flanges are often unrealistically large, causing the wheels to bounce along the ties instead of ride along the railhead"
[21:39:46] <malcom2073> Nice, I have a couple of bins of O27 I've been meaning to get up and running again, love that stuff
[21:41:18] <CaptHindsight> was milling stainless 304 all day yesterday, not sure what all the hubub is all about
[21:41:41] <CaptHindsight> didn't have any issues with work hardening
[21:42:37] <Duc> 316 I think is the bad one
[21:53:21] <CaptHindsight> Gehirnfrost
[21:54:50] <Deejay> gehirnfrost? ;)
[21:57:51] <Duc> or am I thinking 410

[22:08:27] <g_mouer> Ok JT, I'm curious "neutral thing" ?? as in the white wire?
[22:08:54] <PCW> ReadError: the 7I76E has the normal 7I76 I/O but also has 2 expansion ports to add additional daughtercards
[22:08:56] <PCW> so for example you could have a 7I76E + a 7I76 +a 7I77 for 10 step/dir channels, 96 12/24v inputs, 48 12/24V outputs,
[22:08:57] <PCW> 8 encoder inputs, 6 analog +-10V outputs, 2 analog 0 to10V isolated outputs, and 3 RS=422 expansion ports for more I/O
[22:08:59] <PCW> g_mouer: a 7I92 will work with a 7I77 (or a 7I80DB)
[22:11:11] <g_mouer> how do I post a screenshot here?
[22:11:24] <CaptHindsight> imagebin.ca
[22:11:37] <CaptHindsight> some prefer imgur.com
[22:11:56] <Duc> PCW: Have you run into a issue of linuxcnc not seeing encoder pulses when they are very small. I can watch my X-axis jitter very little which over times is a full rotation of the shaft over 15 mins but no raw counts show on linuxcnc but yaskawa software shows change. Encoder set to 2048 P/R. I raise it alot more
[22:12:01] <JT-Shop> g_mouer: on the mailing list
[22:12:17] <g_mouer> PCW, I have a screenshot of andy's bldc doing fanuc grey code to 3 hall signals, very wierd hall output pattern
[22:13:10] <CaptHindsight> Duc: you might want to clarify "small" do you mean short (high frequency) or too low a voltage
[22:13:35] <g_mouer> http://ibin.co/2RR9gLjXKTax
[22:14:06] <g_mouer> thanks JT, I don't do the mail list
[22:14:22] <Duc> CaptHindsight: would it filter out raw counts of 1 if it doesnt see any more and consider those noise
[22:17:13] <g_mouer> I did post it in a forum thread though, was hoping to catch andy here
[22:17:26] <Duc> The shaft is jittering and after long enough it will make a full rev without linuxcnc noticing. Now it does notice if I move the shaft a tick

[22:42:37] <zeeshan> duc that sounds like a problem =/
[22:42:43] <zeeshan> losing position just over time.
[22:43:45] <Duc> yea wonder if the filter is catching the one raw count due to time
[22:49:17] <PCW> Duc: the filter limits the maximum count rate, it will not cause loss of counts at low speeds
[22:49:58] <Duc> maybe its something to do with the yaskawa settings then
[22:50:43] <Duc> might be to small of moves each time for the servopacks to send a signal for
[22:51:31] <PCW> that i, if a A or B pulse width is too low to count due to a reversal its lost but causes no count loss ( the temporary quadrature state is simply not seen )
[22:52:30] <Duc> ah would increase the pulse rant help with the problem. Maybe go about 2048 P/R. I think I can do 8,000+
[22:52:47] <PCW> if you have count loss it may be noise (make sure your differential signals are correct)
[22:53:27] <Duc> I will double check them
[22:54:34] <PCW> a volmeter _across_ the differential pairs is a good diagnostic
[22:54:59] <Duc> what should I read?
[22:55:07] <Duc> voltage or Ohm check
[22:55:07] <PCW> also make sure the 7I77 is jumpered for differential mode
[22:55:54] <Duc> Ill check real check
[22:56:35] <PCW> voltage should read +3 to +5V or -3 to -5V depending on state ( never anything else )
[22:57:31] <Duc> each pair should read that
[22:57:44] <PCW> Yes
[22:58:39] <Duc> ok all jumpers are set for differential
[22:58:51] <Deejay> gn8
[22:59:17] -!- Deejay has quit [Quit: bye]
[23:01:21] <PCW> also make sure the hm2 encoders are set for quadrature mode (I would expect them to be)
[23:01:23] <PCW> up/down mode will count quadrature (at 1X) but will lose counts on reversals
[23:01:43] <Duc> signals are in the low 1v to 2v range
[23:01:57] <Duc> IDX is at 2.8
[23:02:34] <Duc> so far I have 3 encoders hooked up
[23:02:38] <PCW> if they are jittering around you will get low voltages

[23:05:29] <PCW> and -2.7? ( need to wiggle the shaft to get the other state )
[23:06:13] <Duc> yes
[23:08:27] <Duc> I have a 5v 5AMP power supply arriving on wed to supply the 7i77 card
[23:08:55] <PCW> OK that sounds OK
[23:08:57] <PCW> do you have the encoder counter mode correct? ( set false for quadrature )
[23:09:23] <Duc> where would I find that setting
[23:09:30] <PCW> ( I would think pncconf does this by default )

[23:09:42] <PCW> in the hal file
[23:10:11] <Duc> counter-mode is a 0
[23:10:27] <PCW> also if it is a noise issue you can try turning on the encoder filter bit
[23:11:11] <Duc> that is set at a 1
[23:11:36] <PCW> well not sure whats going on then
[23:12:00] <Duc> only one axis is having this problem
[23:12:03] <Duc> so far
[23:12:25] <Duc> there is no load on the drives just yet either
[23:13:05] -!- Tecan [Tecan!~fasdf@unaffiliated/unit41] has joined #linuxcnc
[23:13:07] <PCW> maybe something setup wrong in the drive? quadrature is normally pretty reliable
[23:13:38] <Duc> maybe Ive been trying to compare the difference between the drive parameters but nothing sticks out yet
[23:13:51] <Duc> going to see if I increase the pulse counts if that will help
[23:14:03] <PCW> ( and lost/jgained counts are almost always noise related )
[23:15:05] <Duc> but I dont know what the yaskawa drives themselves filter since it goes from a absolute to incr in the drive itself
[23:16:08] <Duc> be better if the drives were completely dummy systems
[23:19:08] <Duc> no help by doubling it. I do see some raw counts coming thru now but not enough to keep it still
