[00:02:02] -!- Nick001-shop has quit [Quit: ChatZilla 0.9.91.1 [Firefox 34.0.5/20141126041045]]
[00:05:58] <furrywolf> bbl
[00:06:25] <Tom_itx> any opinions on SSD? which are reliable, which are junk?
[00:07:48] <_methods> intel
[00:07:55] <_methods> good
[00:07:57] <minimill> intel if you care
[00:08:12] <furrywolf> intel, samsung good, ocz fucking crap, rebranded china fucking crap.
[00:08:52] <Tom_itx> i've got a small one but don't use it much. just for testing new things
[00:09:37] <Tom_itx> any certain intel?
[00:09:46] <_methods> all of my intels are still alive
[00:09:48] <furrywolf> I have a sandisk cloudspeed and a pny, no problems yet... of course, the pny is still in its shrink wrap. :P
[00:10:21] <furrywolf> the cloudspeed claims to be "enterprise", which I suspect means "costs more".
[00:11:24] <furrywolf> the pny is destined for my toughbook cf-30 when I have spare time.
[00:13:08] <Tom_itx> what os?
[00:13:14] <_methods> i had 2 smaller corsairs die on me
[00:13:36] <Tom_itx> i've got a small corsair but like i said, i don't use it much
[00:13:38] <_methods> those are the only ones to die on me though
[00:13:43] <Tom_itx> just for testing stuff
[00:13:45] -!- gonzo_nb has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
[00:13:56] <_methods> i have intel, samsung, adata, pny, and the corsairs
[00:14:05] <_methods> all alive except corsair
[00:14:33] <Tom_L> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA5EM2M30056&cm_re=intel_ssd-_-20-167-288-_-Product
[00:14:38] <Tom_itx> there we go
[00:15:10] <furrywolf> I have heard bad things repeatedly about ocz...
[00:15:31] <Tom_itx> i may have some ram from them
[00:15:35] <Tom_itx> can't recall right now
[00:15:51] <furrywolf> I think theregister ran an article at some point on ocz failure rates, with some models having a >25% return rate.
[00:16:07] -!- asdfasd has quit [Ping timeout: 256 seconds]
[00:17:55] <furrywolf> Before we move further on the SSD versus hard drive discussion, we need to throw OCZ right out the window. Let's look at how it has done on a company-wide level since Hardware.fr started tracking SSD returns. Article 3, 2.93 per cent; Article 4, 3.5 per cent; Article 5, 4.2 per cent; Article 6, 7.03 per cent; Article 7, 5.02 per cent; Article 8, 6.64 per cent; Article 9, 2.27 per cent; Article 10, 5.66per cent.
[00:18:01] <furrywolf> OCZ had an individual product – the OCZ Octane SATA 2 128GB – with a 52 per cent return rate and numerous others above 40 per cent. Prieur calls OCZ's return rates "catastrophic" and I have to agree*.
[00:18:08] <furrywolf> http://www.theregister.co.uk/2014/11/07/storage_ssds/
[00:20:00] <furrywolf> for comparrison, samsung is 0.5%...
[00:20:41] <furrywolf> bbl
[00:22:39] <furrywolf> "*My own experience is a 240 per cent return rate with OCZ. The return rate is more than 100 per cent because many of these SSDs not only failed but the returned disks failed, and then the second, third and sometimes even fourth disks failed. I eventually pulled the whole line from every client and replaced them with those of other vendors at my expense."

[00:23:20] <furrywolf> bbl
[00:24:10] <Rab> Tom_itx, don't buy Samdung EVO 840 (and possibly other models using the same flash technology): http://www.extremetech.com/computing/199673-second-patch-for-ongoing-840-evo-ssd-performance-issues-being-prepped-by-samsung
[00:25:32] <Rab> Apparently an unfixable problem with TLC NAND.
[00:25:49] <Tom_L> i think i've heard of that one
[00:25:57] <Tom_L> ( the problem )
[00:26:19] <Rab> Models with different flash (840 Pro, older drives, etc) don't seem to be affected.

[06:07:32] <XXCoder> kinecg
[06:07:37] <archivist> the thing about the faro arm is you can put it on the floor and measure inside a car
[06:08:26] <XXCoder> fancy.
[06:08:41] <archivist> XXCoder, that result looks only 60% not close enough to 100%
[06:09:06] <XXCoder> yeah
[06:09:16] <XXCoder> still enough to do some basic stuff
[06:09:29] <XXCoder> then polish the model to what you like
[06:10:29] <archivist> and there is a basic rule of measurement that in order to measure to 1% your equipment must be 10 times better, .1%
[06:14:29] <archivist> the reason for that is there are other uncertainties to add, eg length needs you to think about temperature, contact pressure and axis of measurement on axis of item, etc

[17:54:43] <renesis> prob 90% of the dremels were things at work, prob half of those the button wouldnt hold the spindle anymore
[17:55:40] <renesis> i know my dremel, i had it a few days and leaned into the button on accident while it was loaded, and that thing was never the same
[17:56:19] <renesis> it works but its clearly semi fucked, not close to new in functionality
[17:58:57] amnesic is now known as amnesic_away
[18:03:41] <Rab> Based on my mid-'80s Dremel, the button engages a triangular pot-metal spider. So there are three points in a rotation where you can immobilize the shaft.

[22:07:22] <renesis> how long did they last

[22:18:00] <zeeshan> you're trying to hook up limit switches into one pin of your parallel port
[22:18:02] <zeeshan> whats the question?
[22:18:56] <Tom_itx> make the final one from Ti
[22:19:09] <Tom_itx> and swiss cheese it to lighten it
[22:20:20] <Tom_itx> the outlaw guys would go so far as to use hollow Ti bolts to save weight
[22:20:44] <newtolinuxcnc> zeeshan: yes this is one question, the other question is "there is a sperate "error" input for miscellaneous stuff. like over heating.
[22:20:52] <Tom_itx> besides... who really needs brakes anyway?

[22:24:17] <newtolinuxcnc> i have physical switches, and inductive switches. the normal operation work with the inductive switches, but is something happed, and the machine hit the mecanical limit switche it will shut down the power to the machine, in this case i want to stop also the program.
[22:24:22] <newtolinuxcnc> how i can do it?
