[01:03:10] <Tom_L> change the ini settings in [DISPLAY]
[01:04:39] <Tom_itx> MAX_FEED_OVERRIDE and MAX_LINEAR_VELOCITY
[01:04:53] <Tom_L> those should do it
[01:04:58] <Tom_L> 1 being 100%
[01:06:18] <jp_> That Just sets the range. My problem is with the mouse ithe slider is just to coarse
[01:06:32] <Tom_itx> mmm
[01:06:37] <Tom_itx> not sure about that
[01:06:45] <Tom_itx> it would be in the axis settings though
[01:06:49] <Tom_itx> for the slider
[01:07:07] <jp_> dam extruders move to slow
[01:07:25] <Tom_itx> use your arrow keys or +- whichever controls it
[01:07:27] <Tom_itx> i forget
[01:09:07] <JT-Shop> jp_: you can't control the slider sensitivity
[01:09:33] <jp_> I thought that might be the answer
[01:09:45] <Tom_itx> wrong answer :(

[01:14:15] <JT-Shop> you can move it with the keyboard in increments of 10 from 0 - 100
[01:14:50] <JT-Shop> or connect up a mpg
[01:15:01] * Tom_L hugs his mpg
[01:15:14] <Tom_L> that's got to be the best thing i added to my sherline
[01:15:26] <Tom_L> aside from linuxcnc of course
[01:15:41] <jp_> Sorry the JOG SPEED Slider
[01:16:32] <Tom_L> change the ini settings if it's too fast
[01:17:24] <JT-Shop> jp try the , and . keys
[01:18:03] <jp_> yeah but still jumps from 23mm/m to 83mm/m
[01:18:35] <jp_> ill just have to change the ini and live with the fact i loose some of the top end
[01:20:09] <JT-Shop> why do you need fine control for jog speed?
[01:21:17] <jp_> Dam extruder runs aroind 30-40mm/s
[01:22:03] <jp_> while the rest of the machine can do like 1000 times that
[01:22:21] <jp_> Well not a 1000 but you get the idea
[01:22:49] <JT-Shop> so you want to jog the extruder?
[01:23:24] <jp_> yeah its handy and in MDI it's annoying
[01:23:37] <JT-Shop> make a pyvcp button and use halui to jog the extruder
[01:23:46] <jp_> true
[01:25:30] <JT-Shop> say goodnight Gracie
[01:26:08] <jp_> goodnight Gracie
[01:26:25] <Tom_L> later JT-Shop

[04:35:04] <pana> I built mine from there parts last christmas.. Wish I had a little more knowledge when I did, as I could have saved some cash.
[04:36:04] <tjb1> i only saved $60 making 6 of them myself and I didnt have to buy the aluminum either
[04:36:24] <pana> it kinda looks like you used finelineautomations plans though
[04:36:47] <pana> just used steel instead of alum lower frame
[04:36:58] <tjb1> i took a lot of ideas from a lot of plans
[04:37:23] <pana> best way to get where needed
[04:37:38] <tjb1> i workedo n the design for about 6 months
[04:38:09] <tjb1> Its my senior project so I had a lot of time to refine the design
[04:38:21] <pana> looks good. are you worried about the lower frame shaking from rapid motion?
[04:38:27] -!- mhaberler [mhaberler!~mhaberler@089144206163.atnat0015.highway.a1.net] has joined #linuxcnc
[04:38:46] <tjb1> no
[04:38:49] <tjb1> its pretty heavy
[04:39:04] <tjb1> still a 600# water table coming
[04:39:23] <pana> my lower table is made from 4x4 frame with 3/4" particle board top and lower shelf. I still get shaking
[04:39:37] <pana> plasma cutter?
[04:39:42] <tjb1> and router
[04:40:53] <pana> hope it all works out for you then
[04:41:41] <tjb1> What did you face your spoil board with?
[04:41:53] <pana> I need to setup a video camera on mine so I can watch it fromt he comfort of my living room :)
[04:42:07] -!- karavanjoW_ has quit [Ping timeout: 245 seconds]
[04:42:08] <tjb1> I looked at lowes but didnt seen any big cutters that would work for facing
[04:42:29] <pana> 3/4" mdf double layer. trammed the top layer with a mortise bit
[04:42:36] <pana> 1 1/4" round
[04:42:59] <pana> I've done them with a 3/4" round mortise bit as well
[04:43:04] <pana> takes a while
[04:43:32] <tjb1> Mine would take forever haha
[04:43:57] <pana> I just recently changed from a bosch colt to a PC690 which allowed me to change to a 1/2" shaft and larger router bits
[04:44:25] <pana> true, but only need todo it very seldom
[04:44:34] <tjb1> what hp is that?
[04:44:53] <pana> seems to me 1 1/4 or 1/2
[04:45:03] <tjb1> Im going to be using a dewalt 611
[04:45:11] <pana> quieter than the bosch
[04:45:12] <tjb1> Only 1/4" collet but 1.25 hp
[04:45:35] <pana> get a precise bit's set of collet's
[04:45:47] <tjb1> You can get 1 1/4 for 1/4" shank?
[04:45:56] <pana> they are worth the extra money
[04:46:00] <pana> hell no
[04:46:30] <tjb1> Didnt think so :P
[04:46:35] <pana> 3/4 I used on the bosch with 1/4" max.. PC690 has 1/2, 1/4 and 1/8 collet's from PB.
[04:47:03] <tjb1> yeah 3/4 would take a while
[04:47:25] <pana> 50x46 only takes a couple of hours
[04:47:33] <tjb1> inch?
[04:47:38] <pana> yep
[04:47:49] <tjb1> Mine will most likely be 48x96
[04:47:56] <tjb1> just because of 4x8 mdf :)
[04:48:25] <pana> seems to me, that speciallty plywood places can order slightly larger sizes
[04:48:59] <pana> I don't know how much larger though
[04:49:19] <tjb1> Doubt I would ever use a 5x10
[04:49:37] <tjb1> It might never see routing either
[04:49:43] <pana> still 48x96 is a great size. full sheet of ply on it
[04:50:21] <pana> I'm starting to look at purchasing longer rails for mine so I can go a full 96"
[04:51:33] <pana> tired of cutting ply on the table saw into smaller pieces and then cutting on the router table.
[04:51:44] <tjb1> I lost a damn impossibly small turnbuckle for the rack and pinion on the cncrp
[04:51:56] <tjb1> I can not find a turnbuckle that small anywhere
[04:52:50] <pana> mcmaster carr?
[04:52:54] <tjb1> I did find one at lowes small enough I could probably cut another 1/2 off it
[04:53:09] <tjb1> I havent talked to Ahren yet to see how much a new one would be….probably $.75
[04:53:33] <pana> yeah and he's pretty good about parts
[04:54:13] <tjb1> well its $1.12 at mcmaster
[04:54:17] <pana> I got a bad thrust bearing due to some large steel pieces crushing it during shipping and a cracked bearing.
[04:54:41] -!- mhaberler has quit [Ping timeout: 252 seconds]
[04:54:41] <pana> replaced the thrust and gave me a complete 10 pack of bearings
[04:54:42] <tjb1> You can not beat mcmaster
[04:54:49] <tjb1> Nice
[04:54:57] <pana> I can't order from them as I'm in Canada.
[04:55:29] <tjb1> I went to lowes to get some SHCS
[04:55:39] <tjb1> $1.20 each for 5/16-18 x 21/2"
[04:55:41] <pana> pretty penny :)
[04:55:46] <tjb1> Its $9 for 25 at mcmaster
[04:55:56] <tjb1> thats 2-1/2"
[04:56:28] <tjb1> Even with the $5 shipping its still cheaper for me
[04:56:34] <pana> I ended up getting a commercial account at some bolt supply places where I live so I could afford all the bolts necessary :)
[04:56:54] <tjb1> The only places around me are fastenal and lowes
[04:57:06] <tjb1> I havent tried fastenal but I doubt they are any better
[04:57:19] <pana> a little. not much
[04:57:32] <tjb1> They did want $60 for a reamer...
[04:58:49] <pana> anyways, nice chatting. time for bed as I've got some cutting todo tomorrow
[04:58:58] <tjb1> goodnight
[04:59:11] <tjb1> I need to go too, gotta get the rack on tomorrow and figure out how to mount homing sensors

My spindle ranges from 0-20000, but needs to be at least at 7000 to start turning... I've looked at the nist-lathe example but it does not seem to have the droids I'm looking for...

[11:16:08] <awallin_> Guest81629: look at the pwmgen documentation, there should be a minimum duty-cycle input pin
[11:16:42] <Guest81629> sounds handy, let me have a look
[11:19:20] <Guest81629> ok I think I have found it, seems pretty straight forward... so if I need 35% of 20k, then the command should look something like: pwmgen.0.min-dc 0.35

[12:38:20] <mhaberler> ["graphviz", target="sample2.png"]

[22:28:55] <L33TG33KG34R> so I am at a dilema
[22:29:17] <L33TG33KG34R> I have ordered the CRP2448 from CNCRouterParts
[22:29:36] <L33TG33KG34R> and its due to arrive sometime this week
[22:29:50] <L33TG33KG34R> I don't have any electronics ordered
[22:29:55] <L33TG33KG34R> nor a spindle
[22:30:29] <L33TG33KG34R> I am hell bent on using LinuxCNC because next semester I have control theory which I want to apply to this build.
[22:30:53] <L33TG33KG34R> I have a couple of decisions that I need to make.
[22:31:04] <jp_> mesa hardware is good!!
[22:31:18] <tjb1> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pD3zaRatH5M
[22:31:19] <L33TG33KG34R> 1) I want to do rigid tapping on this machine. I need an AC Servo?
[22:31:55] <jp_> servo would be recommended
[22:31:56] <L33TG33KG34R> 2) I was going to use the Mesa 6I25 with the 7I76 but I have no clue on the motors and drivers
[22:32:15] <Tom_itx> take a look at the 5i25 first
[22:32:26] <L33TG33KG34R> I want to keep this as cheap as possible (I know how contradictory that can get)
[22:32:30] <jp_> 6i25 is just pci E
[22:32:35] <Tom_itx> oh
[22:32:36] <jp_> is it not?
[22:32:39] <Tom_itx> dunno
[22:32:42] <micges> yes
[22:32:45] <jp_> think it is
[22:33:02] <L33TG33KG34R> I don't have no PCI capable Mobos. only PCI-E unless I can run PCI on PCI-E
[22:33:13] <L33TG33KG34R> it is simply PCI-E
[22:33:34] <micges> both are supported by linuxcnc
[22:33:46] <L33TG33KG34R> I understand that
[22:34:40] <L33TG33KG34R> I have $800 to spend at the moment. I'll have another ~$1.5k - $2k next year on more stuff
[22:34:51] <L33TG33KG34R> I need to assemble the machine once it gets here
[22:35:02] * skunkworks__ hugs linuxcnc again
[22:35:04] <jp_> What size of machine
[22:35:14] <L33TG33KG34R> 24" x 48" working area
[22:35:27] <L33TG33KG34R> with a 5" Z I believe
[22:35:38] * micges thinks that skunkworks is very close with linuxcnc :)
[22:35:39] <L33TG33KG34R> its the CRP2448 from CNCRouterParts
[22:36:45] <ReadError> im scared to update
[22:36:51] <ReadError> because it works so good right now
[22:37:42] <micges> if it's work don't touch it
[22:37:46] <L33TG33KG34R> I should really ask my question better
[22:38:01] <L33TG33KG34R> I'll be back
[22:38:02] <jp_> K this extruder is headed for the 4" rosebud

[22:53:14] <L33TG33KG34R> plus I really don't know what kind of servos to get
[22:55:11] <L33TG33KG34R> plus I need to build a table to put everything on
[22:57:01] <Tom_itx> http://www.kelinginc.net/ServoMotors.html
[22:57:59] <L33TG33KG34R> these are DC servos?
[22:58:34] <Tom_itx> you want AC?
[22:58:36] <Tom_itx> http://www.kelinginc.net/ACServoMotor.html
[22:58:40] <L33TG33KG34R> no no
[22:58:42] <Tom_itx> you'll pay more
[22:59:05] <jp_> --on you budget DC is probably best
[22:59:15] <L33TG33KG34R> the machine I am getting is a rack and pinion but is belt driven from the stepper to the pinion
[22:59:36] <jdh> on a budget, steppers are probably best
[22:59:43] <L33TG33KG34R> with encoders?
[22:59:48] <Tom_itx> he want's to do rigid tapping
[23:02:32] <L33TG33KG34R> what about these guys?
[23:02:34] <andypugh> L33TG33KG34R: No real point with encoders on steppers.
[23:02:35] <L33TG33KG34R> http://www.dmm-tech.com/products_main.html
[23:03:13] <jdh> I would also prefer servos, but my budget says steppers
[23:03:28] <andypugh> The price is good for dmm-tech, but they only work step/dir so you don't get all the advantages of closing the loop in LinuxCNC.
[23:03:48] <L33TG33KG34R> ah.
[23:03:48] <jp_> find som cheap PMSM with encoder and hall's and use the 8120's
[23:04:07] <andypugh> And AFAIK there is no encoder feedback out of the drives either, as the encoders they use are magnetic.
[23:06:18] <L33TG33KG34R> ok so I need to find cheap servos for my machine. onto the next task... what kind of spindle would let me do rigit tapping while letting me mill aluminum and plastics?
[23:07:15] <andypugh> Check the specs, if there is encoder feedback out of the drives to the PC, then you can run velocity-mode stepgens, and then LinuxCNC is closing the loop (using pulse-rate control rather than the typical analog voltage)
[23:08:21] <andypugh> L33TG33KG34R: I think you would need a fairly slow, high-torque one for that use.
[23:08:34] <L33TG33KG34R> like a really beefy AC servo?
[23:08:55] <andypugh> Maybe a geared spindle.
[23:09:08] <andypugh> What sort of machine is this?
[23:09:20] <L33TG33KG34R> I was thinking of taking one of those chinese AC spindles, gearing them down, adding an encoder
[23:09:33] <L33TG33KG34R> but then someone pointed out that their torque is at their high rpm end
[23:09:58] <tjb1> Anyone know the teeth per inch of a 20PA 20 Pitch rack?
[23:10:04] <andypugh> Yeah, if you are going to gear it, then a generic AC induction motor is as good as anything.
[23:10:05] <L33TG33KG34R> and that gearing them would cause them to fail since they are designed to run at 24k rom and the slightest misalignment will cause them to fail
[23:10:46] <Tom_itx> tjb1 the key number seems to be 20
[23:14:42] <tjb1> So I need to find the Diametral Pitch?
[23:17:44] <L33TG33KG34R> would I be saving myself a lot of grief and not do rigid tapping? I guess it would be cheaper
[23:17:56] <Tom_itx> likely so
[23:19:09] <L33TG33KG34R> I guess a belt driven rack and pinion has its limitations. maybe servos are a bit overkill for it?
[23:19:47] <jdh> I don't see the relationship between rigid tapping and servos

[23:21:03] <L33TG33KG34R> well I guess a 300W-400W servo should be good enough on my machine since they would provide a better torque curve than a stepper
[23:21:17] <jp_> Those are steppers
[23:21:21] <jdh> do you already have the machien?
[23:21:22] <L33TG33KG34R> I know they are

[23:35:39] <andypugh> Though about twice the price. (I wonder why dmm publish prices in USD not CAD?)
[23:39:42] <andypugh> I think it you only have $800 for 4 motors + drives + PSU then it will have to be Steppers.
[23:40:58] <jdh> what does the machine mfg suggest for motors?

[23:43:40] <tjb1> What a weird number of washers per package…435 or 192 hmm
[23:44:09] <L33TG33KG34R> well the manufacturer uses steppers mainly
[23:44:19] <L33TG33KG34R> I ordered mine with NEMA 34 mounts

[23:58:41] <L33TG33KG34R> I understand that
[23:59:00] <andypugh> (NEMA is only a set of US standards)
[23:59:09] <L33TG33KG34R> so my best bet right now would be to stick with steppers until I can start making parts with this machine
[23:59:16] <L33TG33KG34R> then I can upgrade it later on
