[00:01:03] -!- kwallace3 [kwallace3!~kwallace@tmb-255.sonnet.com] has parted #linuxcnc-devel
[00:01:31] <cpresser> thats the commit which change the sysfs-api: http://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/drivers/pci/pci-sysfs.c?id=5136b2da770d53f026ab091f0423729ebf37a6b5
[00:02:38] <cpresser> ill try 3.14-rt again with a symlink from enabled to enable
[00:04:12] <jepler> I doubt you can create a symlink there
[00:04:22] <jepler> you could try with the source modified to spell "enable" as "enabled"
[00:04:41] <cpresser> yeps, but i dont want to recompile yet :)
[00:05:25] <cpresser> damm.. you are right. read-only-fs :/
[00:05:44] -!- erictheise has quit [Quit: erictheise]
[00:05:49] -!- md-2 has quit [Quit: Leaving...]
[00:06:37] <cpresser> could you give me a hint where to change this in linuxcnc?
[00:28:09] <jepler> cpresser: src/rtapi/rtapi_pci.c
[00:28:10] <jepler> - snprintf(path, sizeof(path), "%s/enable", dev->sys_path);
[00:28:17] <jepler> try with "enable" changed to "enabled"
[00:29:35] <cpresser> thx
[00:30:20] <jepler> cpresser: yes I found the same commit after some searching. looks like the semantics of "enabled" will be the same as "enable"
[00:32:13] <KGB-linuxcnc> 03Jeff Epler 05jepler/uspace-pci-sysfs-enabled e889b79 06linuxcnc 10src/rtapi/rtapi_pci.cc uspace: compensate for kernel API breakage * 14http://git.linuxcnc.org/?p=linuxcnc.git;a=commitdiff;h=e889b79
[00:32:53] <jepler> this branch, which I think will be available from buildbot's "scratch" repo in 1.5 hours or so, is an attempt at fixing it "portably". It still works on my kernel, and should fall back to using the "enabled" file on a system like yours
[00:33:35] <jepler> I didn't test it very hard though
[00:33:52] -!- patrickarlt has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
[00:35:13] <jepler> in fact maybe I didn't test it at all
[00:35:34] <jepler> seb_kuzminsky:
[00:35:34] <jepler> hm2/hm2_5i20.0: The hm2 pet_watchdog function is no longer needed.
[00:35:34] <jepler> hm2/hm2_5i20.0: It will be removed before LinuxCNC 2.7.
[00:35:37] <jepler> seb_kuzminsky: is it time?
[00:35:58] -!- ve7it [ve7it!~LawrenceG@S01060014d19d0b68.pk.shawcable.net] has joined #linuxcnc-devel
[00:44:57] <jepler> cpresser: it seems like 3.14 is no longer directly available via apt-get even with wheezy-backports enabled, though the url you gave me does work. rebooting with 3.14-rt to check my own hm2-pci hardware still works
[00:45:01] <jepler> cpresser: thanks for the bug report btw
[00:45:08] <jepler> even if I didn't want to believe it initially
[00:45:19] -!- pozzoni has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
[00:46:20] <jepler> ok, the fix is only a half-fix
[00:50:16] <KGB-linuxcnc> 03Jeff Epler 05jepler/uspace-pci-sysfs-enabled 52bfb20 06linuxcnc 10src/rtapi/rtapi_pci.cc uspace: compensate for kernel API breakage * 14http://git.linuxcnc.org/?p=linuxcnc.git;a=commitdiff;h=52bfb20

[12:48:13] <lair82> Good morning gentlemen, I have ran into an issue on one of our turning centers, we keep getting a fault of " Bug: Call stack Underrun" when we try to run a certain program. I am not sure what causes this. Here is a link to the program that is giving us issues, http://pastebin.com/EfUmTtVm . If this should be on the user channel, let me know.
[12:53:14] <skunkworks> lair82, what version of linuxcnc

[13:01:30] <lair82> skunkworks this machine is running 2.6
[13:07:41] <jepler> that code has g-codes not recognized by stock linuxcnc (m42 is the first one I encountered); this could be a bug in remap, or a bug in the code implementing the machine's specific remap details
[13:09:04] <jepler> so a proper bug submission would require not only the triggering gcode but a "sim" configuration modified with enough of your custom remapped code to reproduce the problem. (by "sim" I mean a configuration which runs without attached hardware)
[13:09:14] <lair82> m42 is my gearchange command, which I checked that stuff, the machine will run any other program just fine, just not this one
[13:10:01] <lair82> We have that m42 in the very beginning of every program. We do most work in high gear, m41 is our low range command
[13:10:02] <jepler> after removing M42 and other nonstandard codes, I end up with
[13:10:10] <jepler> Radius to end of arc differs from radius to start: start=(Z-6.4995,X2.4200) center=(Z-6.5312,X2.4024) end=(Z-6.5056,X2.4362) r1=0.0363 r2=0.0424 abs_err=0.006142 rel_err=14.4866%
[13:10:18] <jepler> N520G03X2.4362Z-6.5056I-0.0176K-0.0317
[13:10:29] <zeeshan|2> looks like an interpolation error to me :P
[13:12:26] <lair82> Thats what I was figuring, G03/G04 problems, after zeeshan mentioned interpolation. Now I have to go get thru the shop supervisors thick skull that his program is crap, and not my turning center!!!
[13:12:37] <lair82> Thanks Guys, :)
[13:13:35] <jepler> that could be true, but it's unclear why you don't get the "good" error message like I do running without remap and just removing your nonstandard codes
[13:13:57] <jepler> that remap code, I know users love it but it's so buggy I wish we had refused to incorporate it in its current form
[13:14:00] <zeeshan|2> lair82: i used to get a similar code when i was using fancy interpolation mode in cam
[13:14:07] <zeeshan|2> i set it back to quadrant mode and it fixed things
[13:14:18] <zeeshan|2> *similar error
[13:15:47] <lair82> I using gmoccapy, if that makes a difference. Do you happen to know what line number in the program it is referencing?
[13:15:58] <jepler> N520 I think
[13:18:29] -!- f1oat has quit [Ping timeout: 264 seconds]
[13:20:36] <jepler> lair82: I do not use gmoccapy. if you are submitting a bug, you would want to determine whether the problem is in fact specific to the UI
[13:22:20] -!- geep [geep!~JoeBelow@216.185.241.19] has joined #linuxcnc-devel
[13:22:53] <lair82> No problem there, it's our program, the post processor spits these programs out from time to time with issues like this, and I have seen the fault in the way that you gave it back to me, had I seen that, I would have had this fixed late yesterday. But all I am getting is that call stack underrun.
[13:27:30] <lair82> Speaking of that remap code, here are the links to that m42 code that we use. Is this something that could be done in python, or is the way that I am doing it the best way? http://pastebin.com/0gF5uz7D http://pastebin.com/qRRuEM5g

[14:06:44] <jepler> and personally I'd use a "not" in hal rather than setting two different values
[14:06:56] <jepler> (unless all 4 combinations are actually meaningful)
[14:07:59] <jepler> I don't know enough about remap to say how it's best to use it

[16:22:48] <cpresser> okay... the missing pncconf module seems to be a Makefile-isse (install-python-target).
[16:23:10] <seb_kuzminsky> do you know if it works when compiled for run-in-place?
[16:23:17] -!- jasen has quit [Quit: Page closed]
[16:23:21] <cpresser> according to PCW it does
[16:23:49] <seb_kuzminsky> that probably means the module gets installed correctly, but not compied into the debian package correctly
[16:23:55] <cpresser> http://nopaste.info/3dd30ca713.html
[16:24:02] <cpresser> thats from the Makefile.
[16:24:26] <cpresser> in line 10-17 the modules get installed, but _not_ the pncconf modules
[16:24:42] <cpresser> my money is on that. not the debian.files list

[16:26:58] <seb_kuzminsky> hmm
[16:27:13] <seb_kuzminsky> huh, pncconf shebangs python2.4 explicitly, that seems wrong
[16:27:56] <seb_kuzminsky> and it plays tricks with python's libdir at startup time to find its module...
[16:28:35] <cpresser> yep, thats not very nice... i spend some time debugging that^^
[16:29:13] <seb_kuzminsky> so there actually is no pncconf module, just a bunch of submodules that get explicitly pulled in
[16:29:23] <cpresser> proposed (untested!) patch for issue 400: http://nopaste.info/e89a5979cb.html
[16:30:17] <seb_kuzminsky> *.py seems excessive
[16:30:40] <seb_kuzminsky> the pncconf Submakefile defines PNCCONF_MODULES, that seems like the list to use
[16:31:05] -!- pcw_home has quit [Ping timeout: 272 seconds]
[16:31:16] <cpresser> yes... those are copied (by some unknown magic) to /lib/python/pncconf during build
[16:31:46] <cpresser> so .py is safe. its the same for stepconf, ...
[16:31:51] <seb_kuzminsky> ah, i see, yes
[16:33:30] <cpresser> those 3 patches should make pncconf work again. hopfully
[16:34:12] <cpresser> another issue with pncconf is that PID-Tuning is disabled when trying to setup closed-loop-stepper driver. but i wont dig into that
[16:34:18] -!- SpeedEvil has quit [Quit: No Ping reply in 180 seconds.]
[16:34:42] <cpresser> and its not a big problem.. ppl who want such an unusual setup can do this manually :)
[16:35:53] <seb_kuzminsky> will you attach that latest patch to #400 pls?
[16:36:00] <cpresser> the .hal generated by pncconf when using encoder+stepgen for the same axis are broken.. they have two drivers in the "x-pos-fb" net. one from the stepgen, one from the encoder.
[16:36:57] <cpresser> i dont have a SF.net login. and dont plan to get one. sorry
[16:37:08] <seb_kuzminsky> steppers with encoder feedback are indeed an unusual combination, but i agree if pncconf lets you specify that, then it should emit valid .hal files
[16:37:11] <seb_kuzminsky> ok, i'll do it

[16:48:39] <seb_kuzminsky> cpresser: wait, you said 3 patches, but i only count two from you
[16:48:52] <seb_kuzminsky> the private_data.py_typotix.patch that you attached to your email
[16:49:01] <seb_kuzminsky> and the makefile fix that you pasted above
[16:49:06] <seb_kuzminsky> what did i miss?
[16:49:06] <cpresser> one is on the ML, only two lines
[16:49:55] <seb_kuzminsky> oh, i see, it's in the body of the email, not as an attached patch file

[18:02:31] <jepler> I've back-ported the patch to 3.14 and am building a new rt kernel
[18:04:06] <jepler> the patch as I've adapted it for 3.14 is http://emergent.unpythonic.net/files/sandbox/pci-fix-name-of-enable-sysfs-file.patch

[20:20:27] <skunkworks_> question - when making a python hal componant.. How can you set pins values before it becomes active?
[20:20:50] <seb_kuzminsky> set the pins before calling hal ready?
[20:21:10] <seb_kuzminsky> (i dont know if that works, but that's what i'd try first)
[20:21:51] -!- eFuchs_mobil has quit [Ping timeout: 244 seconds]
[20:24:25] <jepler> for an output pin you can set a value on it before or after calling ready on the component
[20:25:00] <jepler> I think the ability to set a default value of an unconnected input pin is not present in python. imo it could be added as a new optional value to the "newpin" method of components.
[20:25:01] <skunkworks_> it looks like you can set in pins also from within python.
[20:25:58] <jepler> that's bad :(
[20:26:23] <skunkworks_> I have an issue if my hal componant has 2 lines - loadusr capture and the next line setp capture.blur 1.. It gives me pin not found.
[20:26:35] <skunkworks_> *hal file
[20:26:46] <jepler> you need to use an appropriate -W flag for loadusr to wait for the component to be ready
[20:26:56] <skunkworks_> ah - ok
[20:27:25] <jepler> I agree, there seems to be no write protection of pins in hal module. that's a bug.
[20:33:39] <skunkworks_> -W worked
