[10:56:15] <Consolas> hey everyone
[10:56:30] <Consolas> I was wondering if I can pop a question here
[10:57:29] <Consolas> I'm starting to use leaflet and was wondering if it is possible to initialize the map with a real location name instead of just using coordinates.
[10:58:47] <Consolas> instead of this .setView([40.581416, -8.4457584], 12); use something like this .setView('Some Town,Some Country',12);
[11:00:35] <psha[work]> Consolas: you need some sort of geocoding service to do this
[11:07:50] <Consolas> oh...so this is not like google maps for instance, where you can get a snapshot from the location you are by sending a query like city, portugal
[11:08:07] <Consolas> I'm using http://www.openstreetmap.org/ with leaflet, shouldn't this suffice?
[11:08:19] <Consolas> By the way, thanks for the quick answer and attention
[11:08:20] <Consolas> appreciate it
[11:09:28] <ybon> Consolas: you have some plugins to do so, for example: https://github.com/sa3m/leaflet-control-bing-geocoder
[11:10:27] <ybon> And btw it's quite easy to make your own if needed, for example to use Nominatim, here is one very simple example: https://github.com/yohanboniface/Leaflet.Storage/blob/master/src/js/leaflet.storage.controls.js#L377
[11:10:45] <ybon> (you can test it on http://umap.fluv.io/ if needed)
[11:12:32] <Consolas> Cool, gonna check this out. I just came by to check if there was any kind of available plugin or something already created to make this kind of "translation" : coordinates -> location
[11:12:35] <Consolas> thanks a bunch
[11:16:05] <Consolas> the last option is pretty cool

[11:45:56] <Consolas> As I was saying thanks for your help, I found that mapquest might do the trick here
[11:46:32] <Consolas> http://open.mapquestapi.com/geocoding/v1/address?callback=renderOptions&inFormat=kvp&outFormat=json&location=London,UK
[11:46:44] <Consolas> If I do an ajax call, I can get the coordinates
[11:46:49] <Consolas> and from that point on is all leaflet

[14:16:08] <tanepiper> But it's not the best

[14:23:00] <Consolas> So far is pretty accurate
[14:23:10] <Consolas> but this is just a preliminary evaluation
[14:23:21] <Consolas> How can I add a control in order to disable the zoom control?
[14:23:37] <Consolas> documentation says this http://leafletjs.com/reference.html#control-zoom
[14:27:27] <ybon> Consolas: to disable default zoom control, just pass zoomControl: false in Map options
[14:28:43] <Consolas> I can also removecontrol, later on, right?
[14:30:21] <ybon> yes
[14:31:51] <Consolas> I'm completely lost, something like this? map.attributionControl.('zoomControl': false); I'm not making sense of the documentation and it is pretty straightforward

[14:32:58] <Consolas> Oh wait, I mixed methods from another property
[14:33:34] <ybon> map.removeControl(map.zoomControl) if you want to do it after init
[14:34:13] <Consolas> yeYeah, thanks, that one I got it.
[14:34:23] <Consolas> I was trying to inittiate it without the zoom altogether
[14:34:28] <ybon> ah
[14:34:49] -!- adb has quit [Ping timeout: 276 seconds]
[14:34:50] <ybon> so, L.Map("divid", {zoomControl: false})
[14:36:31] <Consolas> I had this like this: var map = L.map('map').setView([latitude, longitude], 10); gonna start a chain of properties, that was what I was missing
[14:36:40] <Consolas> let me try this, thanks a bunch
[14:47:21] <Consolas> lot of doubts
[14:47:23] <Consolas> var map = L.map('map').setView([latitude, longitude], 10); L.map("map", {zoomControl: false});
[14:47:33] <Consolas> the zoom is still there.
[14:47:41] <Consolas> however I can manage to get it out with the rmovecontrol
[14:48:24] <ybon> Consolas: var map = L.map('map', {zoomControl: false}).setView([latitude, longitude], 10);
[14:50:19] <Consolas> you are awesome, it worked.
[14:50:36] <Consolas> I was trying to do something like this var map = L.map('map');
[14:50:45] <Consolas> and from this point I would just do map.setview something
[14:50:54] <ybon> by the way, you also can pass teh center and zoom as options
[14:50:57] <Consolas> map.zoomcontrol = flase
[14:50:59] <Consolas> something something
[14:51:20] <Consolas> what is the best way to implement options with getting the code all confused?
[14:52:10] -!- oterral [oterral!~oterral@ns-lsn-fw.geomatic.ch] has joined #leaflet
[14:53:06] <Consolas> http://www.jspaste.com/?id=542
[14:53:10] <Consolas> currently this is what I have
[14:53:16] <Consolas> in the future I can add future options there
[14:53:27] <Consolas> the initial zoom I don't think it's an option and must be define in the set view
[14:53:32] <Consolas> is this correct?
[14:53:42] <ybon> you can define options = {} before, and then use L.map('map', options)
[14:54:28] <Consolas> oh yeah, better yet
[14:54:31] <Consolas> totally agree
[14:55:00] -!- psha[work] has quit [Quit: Lost terminal]
[14:55:17] <ybon> I think that you can pass the zoom as an option
[14:55:27] <Consolas> let em check
[14:56:04] <Consolas> From the documentation
[14:56:29] <Consolas> zoom Number null Initial map zoom. is an ioption regarding the map constructor
[14:56:41] <Consolas> maybe I can overwrite it as an option, make senses
[14:58:30] <Consolas> Don't think so
[14:58:53] <Consolas> the maxzoom for instance, you can define it when you instatiate the map and it will override whatever you define in the properties later on
[14:59:06] <Consolas> but that is explained there
[14:59:12] <Consolas> so I guess the zoom must be set like this
[15:20:04] -!- Jakobud [Jakobud!~Jakobud@c-50-134-242-141.hsd1.co.comcast.net] has joined #leaflet

[15:50:13] <Consolas> thanks a lot for your help ybon!
[15:51:28] <Consolas> one last question
[15:51:36] <Consolas> leaf allows this kind of interaction? http://www.imovirtual.com/viver/mapa/-/lisboa/
[15:52:08] -!- mhaberler has quit [Read error: No route to host]
[15:54:36] <scottman> yeah
[15:54:38] <scottman> you can do that
[15:55:25] <scottman> Consolas: basically the layers are there but hidden, with js you can make it show or not show
[15:56:22] <Consolas> Awesome, was afraid leaf didn't allow (as of yet) to add points of interest
[15:56:24] <Consolas> awesome
[15:56:35] <Consolas> thanks a lot, you guys are awesome
[15:56:38] <Consolas> lots of help, thank you
[15:56:39] <scottman> look at the layers
[15:56:41] <scottman> tutorial
[15:56:44] <scottman> and you should get an idea
[15:59:32] -!- kwallace has quit [Ping timeout: 248 seconds]
[16:00:15] <Consolas> roger. thanks a bunch
[16:08:25] <Jakobud> Does anyone know if it's possible to use the Layer Controls but without specifying a Base Layer? I have a map where I want the user to have the ability to turn on/off various layers, but there is only one Base Layer that is never changed.
[16:09:05] <Jakobud> I tried L.Control.Layers(null, myLayers); But then there is a blank white space in the control where the base layers would normally be...
[16:09:47] <Jakobud> and if I just do L.Control.Layers(myLayers), then it has my layers as Radio buttons, since it's assuming they are Base Layers when they really aren't
[16:09:52] <Jakobud> anyone have a clue on this?
[16:12:21] <perl> Jakobud: haven't tried, but what about L.Control.Layers([], myLayers);
[16:12:26] -!- IchGuckLive has quit [Quit: ChatZilla 0.9.87 [Firefox 17.0.1/20121129170341]]
[16:12:52] <Jakobud> I will try that, but I have a feeling there will be a blank white space in the Control where the Base Layers normally show up
[16:13:17] <perl> Jakobud: yes, sounds likely. maybe you can fix it by styling the control?
[16:13:26] <Jakobud> yeah I might have to do that
[16:13:49] <Jakobud> A control like that really shouldn't make assumptions about what you want it to control
[16:13:56] <perl> yep
[16:14:05] <Jakobud> it should allow you to pick and choose exactly what to add
[16:14:19] <perl> I know we do the opposite of what you're trying to do, we only have baselayers to choose from
[16:14:33] <Jakobud> ah well in that case it does work
[16:14:51] <Jakobud> since BaseLayers is the first argument
[16:16:05] <perl> Jakobud: I think we might have the same issue, but the eye is much less sensitive to some extra space below than some extra space above
[16:16:47] <Jakobud> yeah
[16:17:17] <perl> Jakobud: this is what it looks like for us: http://imgur.com/vu5T2

[21:56:47] <billt> Anyone live? I'm having an issue where the L for leafletjs is not defined.
[21:58:12] <jieter> billt: can you post an example somewhere?
[21:58:39] <skorasaurus> billt: i think your leaflet library may not be loaded.
[21:59:31] <billt> I"ve checked that the javascript is loading via IE developer tools.
[22:01:49] <billt> Do you guys understand the code at the top of the leaflet-src.js (or leaflet.js) file for exports and such? Could I set it up to define another variable rather than L?
[22:03:12] <billt> @jieter -- I have an example that works in one project, but moving it to the main (huge) project, and that's where it's failing. Sorry, can't publish that.
[22:03:54] <jieter> billt: ok, but try to get the essential parts out, It will often help you to fix the problem

[22:11:42] <billt> .. downloaded files, put them in project locally (not cdn). I should be able to debug into the js.

[22:16:48] <billt> I should compare the file contents from CDN vs my local copies. Ought to be the same, but are they really.

[22:28:13] <billt> @skorasaurus Just to be sure, I reverted back to getting from the cdn (http://cdn.leafletjs.com/leaflet-0.4.5/leaflet.js) and watched the network profiled get HTTP 200s loading both the css and js. It doesn't work when I get it from the cdn, It does work when I download from the site and use the files in the dest folder.
[22:29:00] <skorasaurus> huh I have no clue.

[22:31:24] <billt> So I have something that works for the moment. I'm moving on. I might revisit the issue later, and see what it really is.
[22:31:26] <billt> Thanks all.
