[00:00:23] <roycroft> probably for the router i'm making
[00:00:34] <roycroft> i don't have bench/floor space to dedicate to a toy
[00:00:48] <roycroft> but i have cabinet space to store some conversion parts
[00:00:57] <mblaszkiewicz> and an electric hot plate might end up being the base, make breakfast and parts at the same time

http://ibin.co/1dKx3wfDSaWE
[07:06:50] <MrSunshine> motor is a 300 step 1.2 degree step angle motor ... pinion gear has 17 teeth with 4mm pitch on the rack .. i get that to 68mm, but ... if these are microsteps and the driver is set to 6000 microsteps ... that would end up at 1 800 000 steps/rev ... :P
[07:07:18] <MrSunshine> if i calculate 6000/68 i get 88 steps/mm ... but that doesnt calculate right either
[07:07:33] <MrSunshine> doing a sort of calibration i get around 350 - 380 steps/mm ...

[19:56:13] <PetefromTn_> Here's a question for you guys..
[19:56:25] <XXCoder> yesno
[19:56:32] <PetefromTn_> I am working on the machine here trying to get the last stuff working properly.
[19:57:04] <PetefromTn_> early on I managed to fry the machinists lamp when I applied 110v power to it and it was designed for 12v LOL
[19:57:13] <PetefromTn_> I would like to get it working again.
[19:57:36] <XXCoder> probably melted and fused wires
[19:57:37] <PetefromTn_> It is basically a 12v 55w DC bulb and OSRAM automotive style socket.
[19:57:45] <XXCoder> you'llk have to swap cables in it too
[19:57:54] <PetefromTn_> I have already replaced the wires.
[19:57:59] <XXCoder> hmm
[19:58:08] <XXCoder> wjy not literal car light socket and light?
[19:58:20] <PetefromTn_> now I need to get a 110v replacement option in there.
[19:58:40] <PetefromTn_> it is your typical headlight style plug in lamp.
[19:59:04] <PetefromTn_> http://sk.farnell.com/productimages/nio/standard/5017790.jpg
[19:59:08] <XXCoder> yeah thats why I was wondering if you could just go to junkyard pull a car headlight socket
[19:59:11] <PetefromTn_> it basically looks exactly like that.
[19:59:18] <PetefromTn_> I want to run it on 110v
[19:59:26] <XXCoder> oh dunno
[19:59:40] <PetefromTn_> back when I first fried it I remember I was able to find a lamp to replace it that was 120v
[19:59:41] <XXCoder> why HAVE to use that socket? can always rebuild it to use some other kind
[19:59:44] <PetefromTn_> now I cannot find it
[20:00:33] <PetefromTn_> I want to use that socket because the light housing already takes that style and I would prefer to not have to re-engineer it just for a change of input power.
[20:01:05] <XXCoder> ahh well good luck finding it :)
[20:01:20] <PetefromTn_> it would be nice if the bulb blows down the road to just be able to unscrew the weather proof housing and insert a new bulb.
[20:01:52] <PetefromTn_> I should have bought the lamp and socket when I had it in front of me.
[20:01:54] <XXCoder> how large is lamp space
[20:03:58] <PetefromTn_> like I said it is just like the one in that photo
[20:04:22] <XXCoder> oh I know. I meant spacing arounfd that socket
[20:05:08] <PetefromTn_> the housing is glass with a metal insert to hold the socket so there is not any way to modify it really
[20:05:30] -!- erve has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
[20:05:37] <XXCoder> makes me wonder if its just better to replace whole lamp

[20:22:57] <Jymmm> then why did you ask if you foudn it already? lol
[20:23:19] <PetefromTn_> plus I would like to be able to run it off the same power that runs the PC up front of the machine.
[20:23:28] <PetefromTn_> I cannot find it again it was awhile back
[20:23:44] <Jymmm> PC PS has 12V
[20:24:27] <PetefromTn_> yeah that's true but is it enough to run a 55w bulb without too much drama and hurting the computers performance?
[20:24:36] <XXCoder> http://www.dhgate.com/wholesale/120v+led+light+bulb.html
[20:25:24] <Jymmm> 60W is only 5Amps, and many put out 20A on the 12V line, so I doubt it unless you exceed the PS wattage rating
[20:26:18] <Jymmm> But like XXCoder linkes to, go for LED if you are going thru all this
[20:26:28] <Jymmm> Linked*
[20:26:51] <Jymmm> both put out a lot of heat
[20:29:06] <PetefromTn_> http://www.ebay.com/itm/CINCINNATI-MILACRON-ARROW-500-CNC-ADJUSTABLE-MACHINE-LIGHT-LAMP-12V-55W-/151416756199?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item23412457e7
[20:29:13] <PetefromTn_> that is what the lamp looks like..
[20:29:51] <XXCoder> looks similiar as one in cnc I use heh
[20:30:00] <XXCoder> one I use is pre led though
[20:30:18] <XXCoder> it says 12v/55v?
[20:30:23] <XXCoder> er w
[20:30:47] <Jymmm> PetefromTn_: These are $10, LED with an AC PS and can be mounted easily
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20169658/
[20:31:01] <Jymmm> PetefromTn_: Get two of them for more light
[20:31:33] -!- skunkworks_ has quit [Ping timeout: 272 seconds]
[20:31:52] <Jymmm> I doubt it's waterproof, but maybe some shrink tubing could fix that
[20:32:06] <Jymmm> I like mine
[20:32:29] <Jymmm> download the instruction sheet to see how it can be mounted
[20:33:14] <PetefromTn_> I don't wish to replace the lamp the one I have is excellent quality just want to make it work again the least modification and least expense way possible.
[20:33:41] <Jymmm> then leave it 12V and be done with it =)
[20:33:50] <XXCoder> yeah. did you see link for led bulbs? seems those is compitable to your lamp socket
[20:33:54] <Jymmm> a PS is the cheapest solution
[20:34:13] <Jymmm> and easiest
[20:34:53] <Jymmm> XXCoder: The bulb he linked to stays in the socket using a spring loaded wire.
[20:35:07] <Jymmm> Unless he has something unique going on.
[20:35:57] <PetefromTn_> honestly the 12 v computer power idea is a pretty good one and I will just have to go buy a bulb and wire it up.
[20:36:24] <Jymmm> Still 12V but LED

[23:25:23] <zeeshan> shit warped on me!

[23:25:51] <roycroft> i don't do really heavy welding
[23:26:04] <roycroft> but i can see those warping eventually
[23:26:27] <roycroft> i think they'll be a cheap improvement over my current situation
[23:26:33] <zeeshan> zinc plated
[23:26:37] <zeeshan> is a bad idea for a welding table

[23:27:15] <zeeshan> i just telling trufth!
[23:27:16] <Jymmm> zinc plating is bad for animals too
[23:27:30] <roycroft> i eventually want to build a strong hands clone
[23:27:48] <zeeshan> i think welding 4 zinc plated bolts
[23:27:51] <zeeshan> is enough to make you sick
[23:27:56] <roycroft> hmm
[23:27:59] <zeeshan> if you sniff the smoke
[23:28:06] <roycroft> perhaps i should remove the zinc coating before i use it then
[23:28:12] <zeeshan> yes
[23:28:23] <roycroft> i have a big sandblaster rig and a respirator
[23:28:27] <roycroft> so i can do that

[23:28:57] <zeeshan> its a bad idea :(
[23:28:59] <zeeshan> tell me how i know
[23:29:00] <roycroft> i always get weldable steel ones when i need to weld them
[23:29:01] <zeeshan> i got metal fume fever
[23:29:13] <zeeshan> i use non plated bolts not
[23:29:14] <zeeshan> or stainless
[23:29:19] <zeeshan> *now

[23:29:42] <roycroft> i mostly stock ss and black steel
[23:30:01] <roycroft> well for wood screws i guess i stock a lot of zps
[23:30:08] <roycroft> they're a lot cheaper and stronger than brass
[23:30:57] <roycroft> this is the strong hands table that i'm going to almost clone:

[23:31:45] <roycroft> including the zinc oxide coating
