I have it set to “no screensaver” and the energy control panel is set to never sleep the display, but _still_ the screen goes blank after 15 minutes. The only way to wake it up is to poke the touch-screen. Sometimes this pokes a button, which is a bad thing.

[05:53:18] <toastydeath> you need to get a gear tooth cutter if you're trying to mill gears - doing it via profiling is a very bad way to do gears unless your application is trivial
[05:53:59] <Oldmanbeefjerky> hmm i see
[05:54:16] <toastydeath> (trivial as in the accuracy of the gear doesn't matter and it won't take much load)
[05:54:38] <toastydeath> (many applications fit both these criteria)
[05:54:45] <Oldmanbeefjerky> i guess than a cnc is plainly out of the question for me then :(

[05:55:14] <toastydeath> oh, you should be fine.
[05:55:23] <toastydeath> how big are these gears, diameter wise
[05:56:13] <Oldmanbeefjerky> i like gears at mod 0.6-0.8 and the spur gears at biggest would be 40-50mm
[05:56:33] <Oldmanbeefjerky> but i guess cnc for me is out of the question atm
[05:57:11] <toastydeath> the forces are pretty light, you'll probably be okay
[05:57:14] <Oldmanbeefjerky> requesting someone to make me a bunch of aluminium gears would be out of the question right?
[05:57:17] <toastydeath> esp if they're in steel
[05:57:23] <toastydeath> yep, pretty much.
[05:57:25] <Oldmanbeefjerky> given the required endmill
[05:57:39] <Oldmanbeefjerky> no, aluminium
[05:57:39] <toastydeath> no, most people won't touch one off jobs with a ten foot pole
[05:57:53] <Oldmanbeefjerky> dang
[05:57:54] <toastydeath> ..are aluminum gears common in RC applications?
[05:58:11] <toastydeath> because if it were me, that's the last goddamn thing i'd make a gear out of
[05:58:13] <Oldmanbeefjerky> they are generally hardened after being cast
[05:58:23] <syyl_> i wouldnt touch a aluminum gear with a 10ft pole ;)
[05:58:24] <Oldmanbeefjerky> or are an alloy

[15:07:29] <pcw_home_> 4 bit commutation?
[15:07:47] <ssi> pcw_home_: I believe so
[15:08:09] <ssi> right now it's looking like my best option is to pull them into inputs and use bldc to fake hall outputs for my drives

[15:08:47] <pcw_home_> I think Asah worked on that some (the bldc comps code is not quite right but I think Asah has it working)
[15:09:29] <pcw_home_> Pico systems has a converter (its probably not a giant deal either)

[15:10:38] <ssi> insanity
[15:10:50] <ssi> I'd sooner spin a board and reverse engineer the stuff myself than pay that
