[02:27:47] <PetefromTn> LOL nice man... we are sitting out back by the fire pit roasting marshmallows!
[02:31:39] <PetefromTn> I like to burn off all the wood scraps and the cardboard boxes I get and the kids love roasting the marshmallows.

[02:47:47] <PetefromTn> damn ran out of wood and cardboard hehe
[02:48:11] <XXCoder1> lol
[02:48:48] <PetefromTn> now it is gonna get chilly so we will have to go inside LOL.
[02:48:56] <XXCoder1> bah
[02:49:01] <XXCoder1> send me your chilly air
[02:49:45] <PetefromTn> you know its bad when you are eyeballing the neighbors shrubs for kindling
[02:50:10] <XXCoder1> just have constant sex with your sigificant other lol
[02:50:23] <XXCoder1> either you guys warm up or you lose cares of cold LOL

[02:50:35] <PetefromTn> hmm not a bad idea actually
[02:50:57] <XXCoder1> probably why summer birthday date is bit more common heh
[02:51:27] <PetefromTn> she's gotta work tomorrow so she is already in bed. she DOES NOT LIKE TO BE AWOKEN!!!

[02:52:24] <PetefromTn> or would that be awakened?
[02:53:13] <PetefromTn> well gotta put the chairs away and clean the marshmallow forks and go inside now
[02:53:29] <XXCoder1> lol okj
[03:01:48] -!- mhaberler has quit [Quit: mhaberler]
[03:05:58] <PetefromTn> it's days like this that I will probably miss when we finally sell our house and move back to Florida.
[03:06:49] <PetefromTn> don't think they allow you to have an open fire pit in the city we lived in down there.
[03:07:12] <XXCoder1> lol cant live nearly out in sticks area?
[03:07:47] -!- AR_ has quit [Ping timeout: 264 seconds]
[03:07:59] <PetefromTn> maybe I can fabricate a large open grill kinda thing and if anyone says anything I will have a coupla hot dogs ready to go on LOL
[03:08:25] <XXCoder1> very large, in floor open grill. ;)
[03:08:38] <XXCoder1> its just very fancy grill ma'am not open pit fire
[03:08:59] <PetefromTn> there aren't really any sticks near where we used to live unless you move quite a bit inland.
[03:09:16] <PetefromTn> yeah that's the ticket.
[03:09:17] <jdh> away from teh new yorkers
[03:09:37] <PetefromTn> Hey man I Am A new Yorker LOL
[03:09:47] <XXCoder1> new yolker lol
[03:09:49] <jdh> you need a new nick
[03:10:19] <PetefromTn> yeah I will then be .....Petefrom somewhere on the beach snorkeling.
[03:11:03] <PetefromTn> or maybe Petefrom lying on the beach prepetrating a tan.
[03:11:11] -!- tchaddad_ has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
[03:11:28] <PetefromTn> or possibly Petefrom damn its hot as hell here.
[03:11:39] <PetefromTn> ;)
[03:11:50] <jdh> too damn hot for a fire pit
[03:12:01] <PetefromTn> damn right.
[03:12:19] <XXCoder1> not much of fan of hot days
[03:12:29] <PetefromTn> but I remember it does get quite chilly when folks are freezing their asses off around here
[03:12:30] <XXCoder1> I'm cold weather type person
[03:12:57] <PetefromTn> I Hate the cold man.
[03:13:34] <PetefromTn> I used to think how wonderful it would be to have a White Christmas ......believe me its overrated LOL.
[03:13:53] <XXCoder1> I live at washington state. had maybe 3 white xmas last 15+ years
[03:14:04] <XXCoder1> snow is rare
[03:14:14] <XXCoder1> west end anyway
[03:14:21] <XXCoder1> east end gets snow hell in winters lol
[03:14:29] <PetefromTn> I am more the sort of decorate the palm tree with Christmas lights while sipping Pina Coladas type of guy.
[03:14:29] <XXCoder1> not as bad as borth centeral states but..
[03:14:42] <XXCoder1> if you wanna beach xmas go to aussie
[03:14:48] <XXCoder1> austulian country
[03:15:35] <PetefromTn> to be quite honest I am sure I will miss this place.
[03:15:50] <PetefromTn> it really is a beautiful place to live.
[03:16:10] <PetefromTn> The Great Smoky Mountains are just absolutely amazing
[03:16:11] <XXCoder1> cool
[03:16:19] <XXCoder1> heh I love Rainier
[03:17:20] <PetefromTn> the Realtor is coming to list my house Thursday morning.
[03:17:43] <PetefromTn> if he is anything as good as he says maybe he can get it sold real quick.
[03:18:12] <XXCoder1> sell it to me for $100 lol
[03:18:25] <PetefromTn> then the real fun begins LOL
[03:18:36] <PetefromTn> moving sux
[03:18:52] <XXCoder1> always.
[03:19:00] <PetefromTn> moving when you have several tons of machines and equipment REALLY SUX.
[03:19:46] <XXCoder1> hmm is it that irreplacable?
[03:20:08] <XXCoder1> it may be cheaper to sell at loss then buy replacements than move em million miles
[03:20:13] <PetefromTn> I think if we did get a contract signed I will probably sell my wife's suv.
[03:20:37] <PetefromTn> she won't sell it unless we move because she wants a four by four here.

[03:21:08] <PetefromTn> but she says she wants a convertible mustang GT if we live in Florida again hehehe.
[03:21:37] <Tom_itx> it's good to want.
[03:21:48] <PetefromTn> yeah right..
[03:21:55] <Tom_itx> fuels the economy
[03:22:15] <PetefromTn> the good news is she actually wants the 99-2004 model so it is at least doable.
[03:22:39] <Tom_itx> get her a 65 instead
[03:22:50] <PetefromTn> don't you want anything Tom?
[03:23:00] -!- knownasilya has quit [Quit: Connection closed for inactivity]
[03:23:12] <Tom_itx> you don't want a 65 convertible?
[03:23:14] <PetefromTn> she would probably be okay with that she loves old cars.
[03:23:32] <SpeedEvil> Model T all the way
[03:23:47] <Tom_itx> there's a few of those around here too
[03:24:01] <PetefromTn> when we lived in Florida we both had 5.0 mustangs LOL
[03:24:19] <PetefromTn> and I had the bronco also.
[03:24:35] <Tom_itx> well, you got your bronco...
[03:24:47] <PetefromTn> it's like as we get older we are going backwards LOL
[03:25:12] <PetefromTn> yeah man....did I mention how much I LOVE MY NEW BRONCO!!!
[03:25:25] <Tom_itx> not more than a few times
[03:25:35] <PetefromTn> hehe
[03:26:09] <XXCoder1> Nah youre fine. 10 or 20 thousand people havent heard you say that yet
[03:26:27] <PetefromTn> that thing is so cool. I have been approached like four times now at stores or gas stations with people telling me how nice it looks.
[03:27:06] <PetefromTn> and it never passes a gas station ;)
[03:27:35] <XXCoder1> lol gpm not mpg eh ;)
[03:28:10] <PetefromTn> I was detailing it yesterday and managed to knock the damn rear view mirror off so I had to get some of that special glue today so I can put it back on.
[03:28:32] -!- tjtr33 [tjtr33!~tjtr33@76-216-190-185.lightspeed.cicril.sbcglobal.net] has parted #linuxcnc
[03:29:08] <PetefromTn> I swear when you floor it you can watch the fuel needle go down as the RPM goes up LOL... but what a glorious sound with the flowmaster mufflers it makes
[03:29:18] <XXCoder1> LOL GPM indeed

[03:30:19] <tjtr33> Capt ok now, exit xchat, renter xchat, no idea why
[03:30:20] <PetefromTn> :D
[03:30:45] <PetefromTn> huh.
[03:31:12] <XXCoder1> http://www.aerocivic.com/ I wanna try this lol
[03:31:16] <XXCoder1> but no money bah
[03:32:17] <PetefromTn> you can probably get an older civic for a song MN.
[03:32:22] <PetefromTn> man
[03:32:34] <XXCoder1> yeah but takes money to modify lol
[03:32:57] <XXCoder1> expecially if I want to buy smaller motor and tranny since it needs less power to move
[03:33:07] <PetefromTn> just some plastic wrap and chicken wire and a couple hours LOL
[03:33:13] <XXCoder1> lol
[03:33:19] <XXCoder1> paper mache car
[03:33:24] <XXCoder1> just dont drive in rain
[03:33:30] <PetefromTn> maybe paper mache'?
[03:33:38] <PetefromTn> hehehe
[03:33:55] <XXCoder1> fast brain, I have. ;)
[03:34:11] <PetefromTn> you can seal it with some urethane paint or something
[03:34:22] <XXCoder1> lol
[03:34:39] <XXCoder1> seriously best bet is to just get junked car with intact frame and some body
[03:34:42] <XXCoder1> rebuild it
[03:35:03] <XXCoder1> better control over shape AND probably cheaper base buy
[03:35:03] <tjtr33> maybe of use to the Houston Fest ( i heard they have an ABB robot ) http://futurecnc.code.arc.cmu.edu/wp/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/RAPID-Reference-Manual-Instructions.pdf
[03:35:40] <PetefromTn> I have seen guys make an entire custom body kit with some of that expanding foam and fiber glass cloth.
[03:36:26] <XXCoder1> wonder what weights like
[03:36:47] <XXCoder1> lathinium ion would be amazing, would have to scevange em all though
[03:36:51] <XXCoder1> all from dead laptops
[03:37:06] <XXCoder1> recycle all dead cells and still good ones make large battery
[03:37:35] <PetefromTn> just need a buncha them tho LOL. I have seen people do it.
[03:38:28] <PetefromTn> I would just get that crx HF and modify that thing you would get crazy mileage.
[03:40:41] <PetefromTn> what does an abbey robot look like?
[03:40:47] <PetefromTn> abb
[03:43:21] <tjtr33> 6dof arm, like Detroit Painting/welding robots
[03:43:39] -!- sumpfralle has quit [Ping timeout: 255 seconds]
[03:43:55] <tjtr33> 6 degrees of freedom, = 6 rotary joints, like elbow, shoulder, wrist...
[03:44:29] <PetefromTn> sweet
[03:45:34] <tjtr33> there's a vismach version in your linuxcnc installation, jog it around and the vismach model moves with it
[03:45:43] <XXCoder1> rotation of stock plys 6 axis arm robot
[03:45:46] <PetefromTn> is it like one of those people bolt a chair to and make an insane ride out of lol
[03:45:46] <XXCoder1> *plus
[03:47:06] <tjtr33> yeah, like that but not so stupid. imagine bike frame welding ( been done with linuxcnc, weld going around that weird saddle shaped path )
[03:47:42] <PetefromTn> that would be awesome
[03:47:56] <XXCoder1> I bet its MUCH simpler to rotate stock and has a robot arm that has just 3 hinge joints
[03:47:57] <tjtr33> and top of your list shows alex_joni, who programs some at his work, with linuxcnc ( iirc )
[03:49:20] <PetefromTn> yeah we are in the house of the guru here and I'm not worthy!!
[03:51:19] <ssi> hrm
[03:52:02] <PetefromTn> harumph
[03:52:09] <ssi> just got home from work :(
[03:52:24] <tjtr33> well you can certainly play with the sim version
[03:52:31] <PetefromTn> at medianoche
[03:52:40] <ssi> mmmm medianoche
[03:52:44] <tjtr33> bye !
[03:52:48] -!- tjtr33 [tjtr33!~tjtr33@76-216-190-185.lightspeed.cicril.sbcglobal.net] has parted #linuxcnc
[03:52:54] <PetefromTn> cya
[04:05:51] <CaptHindsight> http://delta.firepick.org/ an open-source electronics manufacturing system. We will be launching a Kickstarter campaign once we have a working prototype.
[04:06:07] -!- likevinyl [likevinyl!~mythbuste@unaffiliated/likevinyl] has joined #linuxcnc
[04:07:56] <CaptHindsight> Linuxcnc already does it but they have to start from scratch?
[04:09:03] <CaptHindsight> http://tv.slashdot.org/video/?embed=0ya3BhbzqYQ-vRRi7hi7YmjRplwJvOoV
[04:10:47] <ssi> I built a delta robot awhile back
[04:10:54] <ssi> I'd like to get it under linuxcnc control
[04:14:22] <SpeedEvil> Is there anything linuxcnc doesn't do in their prototype?
[04:15:38] <CaptHindsight> the camview plugin does the auto zero
[04:18:03] <CaptHindsight> I gave to finish the howto since it's currently scattered bits of info on 3 different wikis
[04:18:56] <CaptHindsight> there's nothing a pick-n-place does that Linuxcnc can't handle
[04:19:03] <ssi> agreed
[04:19:36] <SpeedEvil> How is the stepper control one?
[04:19:38] <SpeedEvil> d
[04:20:05] <ssi> ?
[04:20:13] <CaptHindsight> I'd be interested to know why they decided to write something themselves
[04:20:23] <SpeedEvil> Likely lack of research
[04:20:33] <ssi> same reason there's so many motion controllers for 3d printers I imagine?
[04:20:55] <toastyde1th> I wish that 3d printers just fucking used linuxcnc
[04:21:02] <toastyde1th> and focused on outputting usable gcode
[04:21:10] <ssi> I agree
[04:21:11] <toastyde1th> that way, you know, maybe we'd wind up with something approximating cam software
[04:21:21] <XXCoder1> agreed
[04:21:28] <XXCoder1> standards mean easier to develoop
[04:21:31] <toastyde1th> and that way you could, you also fucking know, use 5+ axis machines for printing
[04:21:33] <XXCoder1> no useless dupicated code
[04:21:43] <toastyde1th> so you could reasonably ADD MATERIAL TO EXISTING OBJECTS
[04:21:43] <XXCoder1> 5 axis printing what a concept
[04:21:50] <toastyde1th> and print without a god damn shitload of supports
[04:22:08] <ssi> I actually just printed my first object with support, five minutes ago
[04:22:15] <ssi> I've been printing for two years and never used support :P
[04:22:15] <toastyde1th> because the nozzle is always vertical and the part can be moved so that a wall is always supporting the fresh plastic
[04:22:21] <CaptHindsight> but but but a microcontroller is better for control than a general purpose computer :)
[04:22:33] <CaptHindsight> that is what I usually hear
[04:22:38] <ssi> CaptHindsight: in a lot of ways I understand that argument
[04:22:48] <ssi> because "general purpose computer" usually means "some shitty windows box"
[04:22:57] <ssi> but then they stream gcode over usb with a small buffer on the uc side
[04:23:00] <ssi> it's stupid all the way around
[04:23:08] <CaptHindsight> from a PC :)
[04:23:12] <ssi> right
[04:23:28] <CaptHindsight> but you aren't supposed to notice that
[04:24:01] <CaptHindsight> yes, it would be nice to have some focus on CAM
[04:24:22] <ssi> some cross-platform decent general purpose open source CAM would be a very good thing
[04:24:34] <ssi> it's amazing that we've got several relatively good working slicers
[04:24:39] <ssi> that's fairly complex cam
[04:24:41] <CaptHindsight> but even that is fragmented
[04:24:45] <ssi> now apply yourself to reverse-3d printing, guys!
[04:25:32] <XXCoder1> theres already couple unprinters
[04:25:37] <CaptHindsight> https://github.com/openpnp/openpnp
[04:25:44] <XXCoder1> and "dust" to spool creator
[04:25:46] <toastyde1th> one of the big issues with cam is toolpath crap
[04:26:07] <ssi> XXCoder1: I'm talking about "reverse 3d printing" where you take a big block of material and cut away the parts you don't want
[04:26:42] <XXCoder1> oh dunno. we could call it hmm since it mills away parts... HMM cnc mill? ;)
[04:27:02] <ssi> no man that's your grandpa's technology
[04:27:05] <CaptHindsight> taking away material vs putting material down
[04:27:13] <ssi> my technology is called "reverse 3d printing" and it's gonna revolutionize manufacturing
[04:27:23] <XXCoder1> so it sucks in pkastic? LOL
[04:27:28] <ssi> you start with a block of aluminum
[04:27:33] <ssi> and you have a machine that takes away bits
[04:27:36] <XXCoder1> or it sucks in alum
[04:27:40] <ssi> until you're left with a 3d mustache and monacle
[04:27:51] <ssi> or some fake glasses
[04:27:56] <CaptHindsight> so it's like a dust buster
[04:28:06] <CaptHindsight> only for metal
[04:28:10] <ssi> yeah
[04:28:29] <ssi> well it uses a special custom piece that you have to order from me
[04:28:34] <ssi> it's like a pencil
[04:28:39] <ssi> but it's made of metal and has sharp edges
[04:28:45] <ssi> and it spins fast and makes the metal into dust
[04:28:45] <CaptHindsight> can I control it from my smartphone?
[04:28:47] <ssi> yes
[04:28:48] <ssi> duh
[04:29:17] <CaptHindsight> can it make copies of itself?
[04:29:25] <ssi> yeah except for the parts that you can only buy from me
[04:29:36] <CaptHindsight> of course
[04:30:16] <ssi> one day they will be in every home
[04:30:21] <ssi> and "the man" will be out of business
[04:30:31] <ssi> instead of going to walmart to buy an engine block
[04:30:33] <ssi> you'll just make one

[16:20:09] <CaptHindsight> is there another way?
[16:20:27] <CaptHindsight> why not use Linuxcnc?
[16:20:30] <kfoltman> or at least, it is something you probably have to do if you want to achieve that kind of price point
[16:20:54] <CaptHindsight> not for the vision but for the project in general
[16:20:54] <kfoltman> Linuxcnc, heh, if you want to increase the price by the cost of a PC and probably an FPGA card with breakout ;)
[16:21:16] <kfoltman> I (kinda) hate Pis and Arduinos, but you have to admit - they're cheap and easily available

[16:23:20] <kfoltman> probably around 60 or so

[16:25:01] <kfoltman> if it's got to be a mass-produced appliance, it can't be based on trash PCs and the likes
[16:25:46] <kfoltman> so, RPi fits the bill as UI+CV, and arduino works as a cheapo CNC controller
[16:26:12] <kfoltman> you could probably do the same on BBB with PRUs
[16:26:16] <CaptHindsight> so we can at least use the openCV
[16:27:38] <CaptHindsight> not sure what they use to generate the g-code
[16:27:55] <CaptHindsight> placement file is from the PCB tools
[16:27:57] <kfoltman> if they use gcode at all
[16:28:17] <CaptHindsight> that gets you location and orientation in gerber format
[16:28:48] <CaptHindsight> I saw gcode mentioned and Linuxcnc referenced for gcode docs
[16:29:12] <kfoltman> not sure why use gcode at all if it's vision-driven
[16:30:08] <CaptHindsight> I'll peek at the opencv later
[16:30:51] <CaptHindsight> they might just use it to fine tune the position when they get near the parts and pads
[16:31:47] <CaptHindsight> were you thinking that they would scan the range of motion and then just use the frame buffer and bitmap for position?
[16:34:05] <CaptHindsight> placement is easier than picking since the surface tension of the solder paste when molten helps to align the parts
[16:35:17] <CaptHindsight> the JEDEC trays and tapes also only allow for so much misalignment of the components
[16:35:46] <CaptHindsight> there's only so much room for the parts to more in the tray or tape

[16:38:51] <pcw_home> alignment is more of an issue for QFPs, fine pitch BGAs etc
[16:39:43] <pcw_home> BGAs will self align but the initial placement has to be a fraction of the ball pitch
[16:46:35] <CaptHindsight> they are in the early stages and they'll probably cut corners when it gets to working with the difficult parts
[16:47:30] <CaptHindsight> they also aren't concerned with speed of assembly, it can slowly make the boards
[16:49:58] <CaptHindsight> plus they don't know how well it will work, they are running simulations and hoping that it will work well enough to place 0402 and maybe 0201's
[16:51:35] <CaptHindsight> so rather than just having a spec and building to that spec they are hoping it will work out well enough
[16:51:53] <kfoltman> yes, it's not meant to be equivalent (or anywhere near) to industrial pick and place stuff

[18:30:03] <CaptHindsight> are people writing drivers in ways that violate scheduler priorities?
[18:30:10] <archivist> does DMA always win over interrupts
[18:30:41] <CaptHindsight> that's what we are testing
[18:30:49] <archivist> very likely, people think their project is always more important than others
[18:32:14] <CaptHindsight> https://www.osadl.org/Latency-plots.latency-plots.0.html they monitor and test 24/7 over a hundred systems running preempt_rt
[18:33:17] <pcw_home> if DMA block transfer ties up hardware (say a bus) everything that needs to use that bus has to wait

[21:36:20] <ssi> so I put a sheet of 5mm plywood under it
[21:36:27] <ssi> but I need to be able to ventilate through it
[21:36:38] <ssi> so I'm gonna cut a grid of 1/2" holes I think
[21:39:14] -!- Swapper_ [Swapper_!~swapper@81-229-58-225-no121.tbcn.telia.com] has joined #linuxcnc
[21:40:01] <Swapper_> Anyone that knows how to handle tool length compensation and broken tools ?
[21:40:56] <Swapper_> or if i need to change a tool in holder, point is that i dont have a fixed reference on the table and is wondering if its possible to set up the reference tool and then offset the new tool from that
[21:41:31] <Swapper_> or does it have to be the same fixed machine coordinate to be able to measure a new tool ?
[21:43:02] <PetefromTn_> depends on how you setup your TLO's..
[21:43:22] <PetefromTn_> if you just touch off all your tools to the top of the workpiece then you can just retouch that tool
[21:43:58] <PetefromTn_> if you setup on something else and use a reference tool you need to pickup the broken replaced tool the same way.
[21:44:22] -!- acdha has quit [Ping timeout: 250 seconds]
[21:44:29] <PetefromTn_> problem is you cannot do it during a program unless I am missing something.
[21:45:19] <PetefromTn_> I usually just stop the program and replace the broken tool ( I actually never break a tool LOL) and then do a run from here starting with that tool callout.

[22:11:48] <Swapper_> PetefromTn_: ok, its not while running.
[22:12:01] <PetefromTn_> what is?
[22:12:12] <Swapper_> But if the top of the material is not there anymore ?
[22:12:28] <Swapper_> im realy messing the offset pats up bad :)
[22:12:37] <Swapper_> sorry for the stupid questions
[22:13:24] <PetefromTn_> If you touched off atop the material and then machined away the entire surface of the material you can just touch off on what you have left after taking a measurement of the depth and calculate the difference.
[22:13:38] <Swapper_> if i ref say tool 1 to the top of fixture A, then i offset my tools to the same pos, then i change fixture to "B" and i need to ref a new tool, what do i do ?
[22:14:30] <PetefromTn_> if you are changing fixtures you need to set a height value for the new fixture and the other tools should work assuming you have everything setup correctly.
[22:14:47] <PetefromTn_> IE touch off with your reference tool to the new fixture.
[22:15:02] <PetefromTn_> Set it up to be g55 or something other than what you used for the first fixture.
[22:15:23] <PetefromTn_> make sure your G code is setup for the new fixture as well.
[22:15:25] <Swapper_> ok so as long as i load tool 1 (ref tool) and touch it off to z 0 then i can ref a new tool ?
[22:15:33] <Swapper_> its not machine cords ?
[22:16:02] <Swapper_> it calculates the differance between tool 1 and the new tool
[22:16:03] <PetefromTn_> I am almost afraid to say all this because a lot of people do things so much differently than I seem to.
[22:16:12] -!- KimK has quit [Quit: Leaving]
[22:16:23] <PetefromTn_> Your fixture offsets are what they are for each fixture IE G54 G55 etc etc.
[22:16:37] <Swapper_> im starting to use these things since i reacently got BT30 spindle so i have repetable holders
[22:16:45] <PetefromTn_> You touch off your reference tool to each of them to get your G55 Z whatever work coordinate.
[22:17:17] <PetefromTn_> then assuming they are setup correctly all the other tools which are referenced to that tool should work right.
[22:17:36] <PetefromTn_> yeah I know I have Cat40 tooling in my VMC and it sure is nice.
[22:18:30] <Swapper_> the other day i got so confused and messed up so thught better to ask
[22:18:43] <PetefromTn_> make sure when you touch off the reference tool to the new fixture you select the correct fixture offset in the drop down menu when you hit touch off.
[22:18:45] <Swapper_> luck had it it where only a 3mm drill :)
[22:19:07] <Swapper_> but its scary when it janks it in to the workpice....
[22:19:14] <Swapper_> 10mm to deep
[22:19:40] <PetefromTn_> also if you touch off to a 123 block or perhaps a piece of ground rod that you input the height of that rod into the window in the touch off popup.
[22:19:57] <PetefromTn_> yeah crashing is no freakin fun and the bigger and stronger the machine the less fun it becomes.
[22:20:24] <Swapper_> i use a 6mm pice of broken carbide shank
[22:20:51] <Swapper_> so i unput "6mm" when i have pusshed the "touchoff tool z"
[22:20:51] <PetefromTn_> You might do like I do and crank down the feedrate or max velocity overrided when you first run a program that way you can watch the DRO's to see if everything looks correct.
[22:21:17] <Swapper_> good idea
[22:21:36] <Swapper_> i where doin a G0 x0 y0 z0
[22:21:52] <PetefromTn_> yeah if you use a round 6mm rod to roll under the tool tip atop the workpiece then you would input 6mm into the little window and select the proper drop down menu offset. for the fixture.
[22:22:27] <Swapper_> and did not have the understanding of g43
[22:23:01] <Swapper_> dont think i have that drop down since im running gmoccapy
[22:23:20] <PetefromTn_> Oh sorry did not realize you are.
[22:23:35] <Swapper_> np how could you have known :)
[22:23:50] <PetefromTn_> you gotta understand the G43 before you can setup your tool offsets.

[22:24:44] <Swapper_> yea i read up some on it but i could not figure ut if it where possible to reset the reference tool to a new spot on the machine and then messure a new tool from that location
[22:24:59] <PetefromTn_> I am really liking LinuxCNC so far that I have used it. Dead reliable and solid. Just wish It had the jog while paused feature but there are workarounds.
[22:25:08] <Swapper_> or if a needed the same absolute machine z hight to messure a new tool
[22:25:42] <PetefromTn_> I am probably not the best guy to answer these questions I had trouble figuring out how to work the tool offsets initially.
[22:25:44] <Swapper_> i thught i would miss the "jog while paused" more than i am
[22:25:57] <Swapper_> all help is good :)
[22:26:11] <Swapper_> by telling someone i probably will figure it out myself if any :)
[22:26:33] <PetefromTn_> like I said cranking down the max velocity really helps keep things from getting crazy too fast. I always do it on a virgin code run.
[22:27:10] <Swapper_> yea will do that, and i allways keep the pendant stop button under my finger
[22:28:59] <Swapper_> im realy starting to like linuxcnc is as you say dead stable (compared to 3x the speed of sound)
