[15:44:01] <shaun413> Hi
[15:44:44] <WalterN> are air cylinders made with an adjustable stroke that can be done quickly?
[15:45:07] <WalterN> (hand adjusted)
[15:45:42] <_methods> you could have a clevis on the mounting end that adjusts
[15:45:54] <_methods> i think most cylinders have fixed stroke
[15:45:56] <shaun413> Anyone know how to restore old tools
[15:46:08] <shaun413> Like. Shine up some metal
[15:46:19] <humble_sea_bass> urine does wonders
[15:46:30] <shaun413> :/
[15:46:31] <syyl_ws> scotchbrite
[15:46:34] <syyl_ws> :)
[15:46:44] <shaun413> So steel wool
[15:47:01] <syyl_ws> works too
[15:47:08] <syyl_ws> but scotchbrite is pretty awesome :D
[15:47:17] <shaun413> Like the sponge
[15:47:17] <_methods> and it doesn't rust
[15:47:26] <syyl_ws> i prefer the pads
[15:47:35] <shaun413> I have the sponge type
[15:47:43] <shaun413> With the scrubber
[15:48:04] <WalterN> _methods: that would work just as well... but not really sure if you have something nice in mind
[15:48:22] <syyl_ws> there are pads that are more of an abrasive
[15:48:24] <shaun413> So just scrub it? Maybe wd40
[15:48:26] <_methods> well the cylinder end usually is threaded
[15:48:42] <_methods> then you just look for that thread clevis on mcmaster or wherever
[15:48:50] <syyl_ws> http://www.tripointpro.com/media/01/a20791a1365f71087dea4_m.jpg
[15:49:10] <R2E4_> Anybody have a link to screw sizes shop drawings of screws and types?
[15:49:11] <syyl_ws> but thats nothing to use on precision surfaces
[15:49:26] <syyl_ws> like guide ways or machine tables
[15:49:45] <shaun413> Its a hand drill
[15:49:49] <syyl_ws> :D
[15:49:55] <shaun413> Just want to try to make it shiny
[15:50:06] <syyl_ws> use a oily rag

[15:50:12] <syyl_ws> :D
[15:50:13] <shaun413> Repaint it maybe. Any good option for paints
[15:50:24] <syyl_ws> nothing waterbased
[15:50:32] <shaun413> Hm
[15:50:35] <syyl_ws> get the most toxic paint, thats the one that will work
[15:50:36] <syyl_ws> ;)
[15:50:37] <shaun413> Spray paint?
[15:50:42] <WalterN> _methods: oh alright... though I'll want stroke adjustment on the other end.. but retracting all the way back (inside)
[15:50:59] <_methods> well you can mount whatever you need to the other end
[15:51:12] <_methods> there's usually a nice pad for mounting stuff too
[15:51:28] <_methods> all diff mounting options on cylinders usually
[15:51:33] <shaun413> Wall mount
[15:52:24] <WalterN> hmm
[15:53:30] <WalterN> I'll think of something... just didnt know if it was a common thing or not
[15:53:43] <_methods> yeah very common
[15:54:35] <WalterN> erm, wait... how can I mount something to the other end when the rod is inside the cylinder?
[15:55:04] <_methods> the rod is usually threaded or tapped for mounting to it
[15:55:12] <_methods> the rod doesn't go all the way in
[15:55:50] <WalterN> I'm talking about the butt end, so when its fully extended, it does not extend as far as it could

[16:20:46] <MrHindsight> I have an stm32 dev board with an LCD. IIRC they were give aways but sold for ~$10
[16:21:21] <Connor> WalterN: Automating a bandsaw? What's it going to do exactly ?
[16:22:27] <Jymmm> Connor: sit n spin =)
[16:22:39] <WalterN> Connor: basically the idea is load a new bar, make the first cut (the end so it is square) and punch in length of cut and number of cuts, then the go button
[16:23:10] <Connor> horizontal bandsaw?
[16:23:15] <WalterN> yeah
[16:23:18] <MrHindsight> WalterN: how will it measure the length of the cuts?
[16:23:29] <Connor> probably rollers.
[16:23:34] <archivist> barfeed usually does that
[16:23:35] <PetefromTn_Andro> You can buy automated traders for reasonable prices for stuff like that nowadays.

[17:38:50] <IchGuckLive> no typhoon in range today ?

[17:44:36] <GuShH_> XXCoder: clean science... today they barely get dirty, they just push buttons.
[17:44:57] <GuShH_> looking at the grinds on some of these bits, seems old school, no chip breakers... some odd angles
[17:45:01] <XXCoder> if no lab coats, it's not science. ;)
[17:46:28] <GuShH_> there was a tiny indexable tool buried in the box, and a big braced carbide tool... now if only I could find a huge lot of endmills and whatnot for a good price.
[17:47:08] <GuShH_> reamers also, but hard to find in good condition it seems
[17:47:18] <GuShH_> they're always butchered.
[17:47:37] <GuShH_> to begin with, why won't they keep them in their tube / box after using them?
[17:48:00] <GuShH_> they throw them all in one big box and the edges get messed up, same with files... they throw them one on top of the other, that's just plain wrong.
[17:48:03] <archivist> make a tool and cutter grinder then butchered is not so bad
