[00:01:03] <PetefromTn> where is he electrocuting himself again?
[00:01:09] -!- skorasaurus has quit [Ping timeout: 248 seconds]
[00:02:52] -!- mourner has quit [Quit: mourner]
[00:04:25] <MacGalempsy> no client call
[00:05:39] <MacGalempsy> crisis mode on this project. they are getting pissed that the geology is confusing and costing a lot to drill the well
[00:10:10] -!- krusty_ar_ has quit [Ping timeout: 246 seconds]
[00:21:09] <PetefromTn> Man I am totally lost...
[00:21:27] <CaptHindsight> kind of like moving near an airport ans then complaining about all the noise
[00:27:01] <MacGalempsy> as they say in the industry, if a well worth drilling once, its worth drilling three times
[00:27:42] -!- kiw has quit [Client Quit]
[00:28:38] -!- kiw has quit [Client Quit]
[00:29:43] -!- kiw has quit [Client Quit]
[00:30:02] <andypugh> PetefromTn:
[00:30:06] <andypugh> ?
[00:30:23] <PetefromTn> andypugh: Yeah man whatsup?
[00:30:32] <andypugh> Why be ye lost?
[00:31:08] <PetefromTn> Not sure what Mac is talking about. Last time I heard he was working on a Benchman mill or something like that..
[00:32:29] <MacGalempsy> the mill is going well, but I am talking about the 9-5 job
[00:32:42] -!- kiw has quit [Client Quit]
[00:32:49] <MacGalempsy> I drill oil and gas wells from 9-5 and redo the cnc inbetween
[00:32:51] <PetefromTn> Oh okay...
[00:33:20] <MacGalempsy> i am hoping the programming is limited, but will do what it takes
[00:34:22] <andypugh> I drive cars for a job and operate CNC for a hobby. I suspect that there are peopls who operate CNC for a job and drive cars for a hobby.
[00:35:16] -!- kiw has quit [Client Quit]
[00:37:10] <MacGalempsy> heh. true, that is one of my hobbies
[00:37:31] <PetefromTn> Sometimes I am not sure just what exactly my job is so ya got me beat. LOL I built custom Cabinetry and run my CNC and do fabrication work in the shop so never know what will come in next. Just finished tig welding a Honda Shadow Fuel tank where someone tried to pull a dent out with a spot welder and managed to rip a small hole in it. Then they tried to weld it back up with a flux core 110volt wire feed welder and made a
[00:37:31] <PetefromTn> horrendous mess of it. I had to cut out a four by five inch panel, beat a patch panel to contour and tig weld it back in. It was a PIA>>
[00:38:32] -!- Nekosan [Nekosan!~kvirc@173.183.184.116] has joined #linuxcnc
[00:39:28] <andypugh> I hope you didn't under-charge, but suspect you did.
[00:39:52] <andypugh> They would have been a lot better off looking on eBay for a fresh tank
[00:39:58] <PetefromTn> LOL just out of curiosity what do you figure would be a fair price for a job like that..
[00:40:01] -!- kiw has quit [Client Quit]
[00:40:17] <PetefromTn> He told me a new tank is like $600.00
[00:40:22] <andypugh> I am guessing it took you three hours or so?
[00:40:35] <PetefromTn> Actually more like four and a half...
[00:40:51] <andypugh> yeah, so I would be wanting $200 at least
[00:41:12] <PetefromTn> I don't have an english wheel or planishing hammer so I had to beat it out on a pair of leather gloves stacked up.
[00:41:19] <andypugh> And that will buy you a second-hand tank that doesn't need a repaint.
[00:41:27] <PetefromTn> Thats about right....
[00:42:08] <PetefromTn> Apparently this tank is a special edition that has larger capacity and a different shape so it is at least as rare as a Honda shadow tank can be I suppose.
[00:42:20] <andypugh> http://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-Shadow-500-Gas-Tank-Original-Paint-/231071718525?
[00:42:36] <andypugh> Does he need the extra capacity?
[00:42:36] <PetefromTn> He was pleased and paid me the cash and left smiling telling me he has more work for me to do soon so I am good...
[00:42:57] <andypugh> Yeah, it's good for you, certainly.
[00:43:33] <andypugh> He needs billet yokes and billet rearsets too, of course. If only he know someonw with a CNC mill....
[00:43:58] <PetefromTn> Actually I think this is for a much larger bike like 1000CC or something... He said he bought the new tank from a friend so he can ride longer on the cruises with his friends whose bikes have more range I guess.
[00:45:03] <PetefromTn> LOL I have made a buncha stuff like that. There is a kid who comes around quite often who is building a Cafe racer and he has made me built custom adapters to put larger triple trees on the older frame and also install upside down forks etc..
[00:45:21] <andypugh> Just giving a feel for the going price for one that hasn't been messed with. No offence but your repaired tank will never be as perfact as one that never got crashed, will it?
[00:45:46] <andypugh> It's quite a big market.
[00:46:16] <andypugh> But I suspect quite a well-populated one.
[00:46:20] <MacGalempsy> andypugh: have you setup mesa cards before
[00:46:23] -!- kiw has quit [Ping timeout: 245 seconds]
[00:46:27] <andypugh> A bit.
[00:46:37] <PetefromTn> LOL no actually that damn metal was razor thin and was a real BEOTCH to weld up with no leaks..
[00:46:53] <PetefromTn> I have...
[00:47:13] <MacGalempsy> so once I get all the leads plugged into the boards, how easy is it to setup the pins? I have been reading the HAL manual, but its getting a bit overwhelming
[00:47:36] <andypugh> Which cards?
[00:47:47] <MacGalempsy> 5i25,7i77,7i84
[00:48:09] <andypugh> Pncconf will probably do the heavy lifting
[00:48:23] <MacGalempsy> perfect. exactly what I needed to hear
[00:48:36] <andypugh> But you have to feed pncconf the XML file for the 5i25 so it knows what to do with it.
[00:48:53] <PetefromTn> Yeah PNCconf gets you going pretty good. Still need to do some tinkering afterwards tho,
[00:49:15] <PetefromTn> Check out what my wife is making for us tonight!!
[00:49:18] <PetefromTn> http://www.cookingwithsugar.com/amazing-halloween-rainbow-party-bundt-cake-recipe/
[00:49:47] <MacGalempsy> mmmm get that sugar rush!
[00:49:55] <MacGalempsy> no sleep til....BROOKLYN!
[00:50:04] <Valen> nice
[00:50:47] <andypugh> MacGalempsy: Starting point: http://www.linuxcnc.org/index.php/english/forum/39-pncconf/21670-5i25-firmware-xml-files-for-pncconf
[00:51:31] <andypugh> (use the last version published)
[00:52:40] <MacGalempsy> thanks! tonight I will hopefully get to look into the digital drive. there is one out I cannot figure out, but once inside, it should reveal the secret
[00:52:59] <andypugh> it still might not know about the 7i84. But that should just plug in (with the right wire) and be auto-detected.
[00:53:01] -!- snadge [snadge!~snadge@unaffiliated/snadge] has joined #linuxcnc
[00:53:26] <Tom_itx> is that the sserial expansion card?
[00:53:30] <PetefromTn> Yeah she is almost done so I am stoked to see it finished.
[00:53:46] <PetefromTn> She is making two actually one for us and one to take to work tomorrow with her
[00:53:50] -!- snadge [snadge!~snadge@unaffiliated/snadge] has parted #linuxcnc
[00:53:57] <andypugh> It only gets auto-detected by HAL/LinuxCNC unfortunately, not by Pncconf AFAIK, but perhaps you wil get lucky :-)
[00:54:30] <andypugh> Right, tme for me to retire. Night all.
[00:54:39] <PetefromTn> Nite Andy...
[00:54:43] -!- SWPadnos has quit [Quit: ChatZilla 0.9.90.1 [Firefox 24.0/20130910160258]]
[00:54:44] -!- andypugh has quit [Quit: andypugh]
[00:54:52] <PetefromTn> What is the 7i84
[00:55:26] <PetefromTn> why do you need more than the combo? My entire machine will be run off those two cards with IO to spare..
[00:55:40] <Tom_itx> yeah that's the same one i was looking at
[00:55:50] <Tom_itx> sserial io card
[00:56:27] <Tom_itx> i was gonna move my pendant to it
[00:56:49] <Tom_itx> and to learn how sserial works
[00:56:59] <MacGalempsy> the 7i84 is to run the extras for the ATC and i/o didnt fit on the 7i77
[00:57:24] <MacGalempsy> each servo amplifier has 10i/o plus powers
[00:57:35] <Tom_itx> it's got 2 or 3 field powers too doesn't it?
[00:57:42] <PetefromTn> Really? My machine has the toolchanger and still has enough I0
[00:58:02] <MacGalempsy> the 7i84 is basically the lower half of the 7i77
[00:58:12] <MacGalempsy> sans encoder and motor ports
[00:58:38] -!- marvi has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
[00:58:43] <MacGalempsy> what is amazing is that once could daisy chain thousands of additional cards
[01:02:57] <Tom_itx> hardly practical but possible
[01:03:00] <PetefromTn> Yeah that is for sure a nice feature of the smart serial and mesa cards...
[01:04:42] <PetefromTn> I have been VERY happy not only with the cards themselves but also the service from Pete at mesa and OLeg I think his name is. Both are very knowledgeable.

[01:30:50] <PetefromTn> You sure love to sweat the details man LOL

[19:57:16] <skunkworks> Lathe_newbie, it is complicated...
[19:57:33] <PCW> current sense is normally done either with low value resistors in the bottom side of the Hbridge
