[00:42:44] <kwallace1> Hello. I want to change the normal X direction on my lathe. I reversed the encoder scale and the axis moves the way I want. Gremlin also shows movement to the North as positive, so far so good. My problem is that the soft limits are reversed so I run into the South limit when moving North. Anyone have a hint on how to fix this? Thanks and Merry Christmas.
[00:43:31] <jthornton> change your sign on the limits
[00:43:45] <jthornton> are you using gscreen? just wondering
[00:44:11] <jthornton> my lathe faces East and West so I'm a bit confused :)
[00:45:06] <tjb1> I dont have a lathe :(
[00:45:50] <kwallace1> I tried reversing the sign of the limits but that didn't work either. I'm using a custom UI with Gremlin.
[00:48:00] <jthornton> you have individual inputs for each end of the axis?
[00:50:02] <kwallace1> I think so. I have -.2 for South, 4.6 for North.
[00:51:08] <jthornton> yikes gotta run
[00:51:46] <kwallace1> Thanks.
[00:52:22] <kwallace1> Have a good evening.
[00:52:34] <kwallace1> Oops. I gotta go too.

[09:02:38] <Jymmm> Heh, I maxed out the ram in my gf's iMac for Christmas =)
[09:03:04] <Jymmm> She watched videos on how to do it long ago.

[09:09:30] -!- toastydeath [toastydeath!~toast@c-69-244-86-195.hsd1.md.comcast.net] has joined #linuxcnc
[09:09:33] <Jymmm> i7 and max 8gb, seems a waste.
[09:09:56] <tjb1> 2.5 years old now
[09:10:54] <tjb1> its like a 6.5 in windows rating
[09:11:37] <Jymmm> huh?
[09:12:17] <tjb1> the windows rating
[09:12:25] <Jymmm> what is that?
[09:13:00] <tjb1> go to my computer than system roperties
[09:13:13] <Jymmm> hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
[09:13:30] <tjb1> properties
[09:13:37] <tjb1> then...
[09:13:45] <tjb1> its late
[09:14:00] <Jymmm> Yeah, I get what you're saying.... still funny.
[09:14:39] <Jymmm> It's kinda asking the devil what he wants for his birthday.
[09:14:48] <tjb1> im lost
[09:15:15] <Jymmm> tjb1: "Windows Rating" much less "Windows" itself is a joke these days.
[09:15:26] <tjb1> ill never move to 8
[09:15:47] <Jymmm> XP VM or XPLive
[09:16:10] <tjb1> I like 7
[09:16:15] <Jymmm> anythign beyond that is kinda pointless
[09:16:40] <Jymmm> I've had W7 in a drawer for years, never touched it.
[09:17:45] <tjb1> i need to find out how to dual boot ubuntu onto this new laptop
[09:18:00] <tjb1> it screwed up my windows partition on mac when I tried to triple boot
[09:18:12] <Jymmm> boot camp?
[09:18:31] <tjb1> well I had mountain lion and windows 7 then added ubuntu and it killed windows 7
[09:19:10] <Jymmm> It makes no sense to do all that when you have an i7 and can just run VM's
[09:19:19] <tjb1> I hate parallels
[09:19:38] <tjb1> Its all screwy when using solidworks in it
[09:19:38] <Jymmm> there's also vmware and irtualbox
[09:19:52] <tjb1> I tried virtual bo
[09:19:54] <tjb1> box
[09:20:13] <tjb1> almost used that "switch from parallels to vmware" promotion but decided not to
[09:21:41] <Jymmm> Well, to run M$ on bare metal is just stupid these days. There are so many benefits to running VM
[09:22:23] <Jymmm> If you have issues with VM, you should see what others are doing.
[09:22:37] <tjb1> I might try again after school is done
[09:22:54] <tjb1> I got my SSD when they were pretty new so I only have 120gb in my macbook
[09:23:21] <Jymmm> so? delete the pr0n
[09:24:13] <tjb1> no pr0n on it
[09:25:10] <tjb1> bout time for bed, tv is starting to suck
[09:25:56] <Jymmm> lol, it started to suck 30 years ago. G'Night =)
[09:26:23] * Jymmm hugs his 8TB NAS box =)
[09:27:09] <tjb1> after 3am its nothing but infomercials
[09:27:23] <Jymmm> Netflix or pbs
[09:27:40] <tjb1> we dont have highspeed at home except when im home with my phone
[09:27:50] <Jymmm> ah
[09:29:21] <tjb1> Yeah, Verizon blows.

[23:06:24] <JT-Shop> lol
[23:06:41] <JT-Shop> kwallace: are you programming the gui?
[23:09:43] -!- jpk has quit [Ping timeout: 252 seconds]
[23:10:16] <kwallace> No I'm trying to test conversational scripts on real hardware. Some times I get side tracked when things don't go as I expect, which is often when dealing with projects still in development.
[23:10:33] <JT-Shop> you working with Rogge?
[23:10:39] <kwallace> Yes.
[23:10:51] <JT-Shop> just tell him to add the y2 view for you
[23:11:00] <Jymmm> Anyone work on Fords?
[23:11:05] <JT-Shop> he can do that with one line of code
[23:11:28] <tjb1> Whats wrong with your Ford Jymmm
[23:11:41] <Jymmm> tjb1: Cranks, but won't start.
[23:11:43] <JT-Shop> send him that link if he has not noticed it
[23:11:50] <tjb1> That can be a lot of things
[23:11:53] <tjb1> What year
[23:11:55] <JT-Shop> tjb1: see the vid?
[23:12:02] <tjb1> What vid?
[23:12:37] <JT-Shop> the one I posted a while ago
[23:12:58] <JT-Shop> <JT-Shop> http://gnipsel.com/shop/plasma/videos/plasma-10.mp4
[23:13:01] <kwallace> Okay. I'm not sure how that will go because I tend to insist on homing and soft limits and the powers that be may think otherwise.
[23:13:38] <JT-Shop> aye, me too
[23:15:32] <JT-Shop> with a back tool lathe is X reversed so a negitive move is toward you?
[23:17:03] <kwallace> Yes, but as a diameter.
[23:18:09] <tjb1> JT-Shop: Thats nice
[23:18:18] <tjb1> Have you ever done an edge start?
[23:19:57] <JT-Shop> every start in the video is an edge start
[23:20:26] <tjb1> I thought it looked close
[23:20:36] <JT-Shop> kwallace: or radius depending on your settings
[23:21:01] <tjb1> What do you do if you need to cut a hole in something that requires an edge start? drill a hole and edge start that?
[23:21:23] <JT-Shop> tjb1: I was impressed with the reduction in dust and smoke... only a bit of steam now
[23:21:37] <JT-Shop> just do a lead in move
[23:22:02] <tjb1> I thought you had been running a water table for a while
[23:22:16] <JT-Shop> I usually only cut 1/2" or less
[23:22:24] <JT-Shop> yes but it was below the slats
[23:22:35] <JT-Shop> a second thought after design
[23:22:49] <tjb1> If I get enough work for my table I would like to go to a powermax 105
[23:23:03] <JT-Shop> how many amps is that?
[23:23:07] <tjb1> 105
[23:23:23] <JT-Shop> nice, mine is 80
[23:24:08] <tjb1> I'll probably go with the powermax 85 though…the 105 requires 3 phase
[23:24:25] <tjb1> It's available but I don't know how much it will cost to get it to the garage
[23:24:36] <JT-Shop> do you have a plasma now?
[23:24:43] <tjb1> Yeah, the 45
[23:24:59] <JT-Shop> ah yes I remember now
[23:25:09] <JT-Shop> it will cut 1/4"?
[23:25:24] <tjb1> I believe it can do 3/4
[23:25:29] <tjb1> Very slow but it can do it
[23:25:54] <tjb1> Well the book says 1" at 4ipm
[23:26:16] <tjb1> 1/2" and above has edge start
[23:27:04] <tjb1> I got my new laptop today, fresh windows 7 and 8gb of ram
[23:27:15] <tjb1> So far I have sheetcam and draftsight on it
[23:29:14] <JT-Shop> do they call that a sever cut for 1"
[23:29:56] <JT-Shop> sever is a french word for fu***ng UGLY
[23:29:58] <tjb1> The website does, manual doesn't
[23:30:26] <tjb1> 3/4" at 10ipm is decent
[23:30:52] <JT-Shop> have you cut 3/4"?
[23:31:54] <tjb1> Not on the table
[23:32:07] <JT-Shop> by hand?
[23:32:13] <tjb1> I think I have done 5/8
[23:32:17] <tjb1> It was decent
[23:32:24] <JT-Shop> did it come with a drag tip?
[23:32:27] <tjb1> Yep
[23:32:36] <tjb1> I have a drag, gouge and machine tip now
[23:33:17] * JT-Shop ponders drilling the 10 1/2" holes to finish making the unstuckers
[23:33:49] <tjb1> One of the senior projects, the kid drilled, tapped and countersunk 184 holes
[23:34:07] <tjb1> Did like 40 with some stupid hand drill jig than the rest with a magnetic drill
[23:34:44] <tjb1> I get tired of tapping around 10 holes
[23:35:06] <JT-Shop> a good tap makes a world of difference
[23:35:42] <JT-Shop> was he testing the life of the tools or something?

[23:41:02] <tjb1> What are those?
[23:41:16] <tjb1> At first I thought they were used on the frame for axle clearance
[23:41:16] <JT-Shop> it's a tool
[23:41:55] <JT-Shop> the arms under the bases pivot on the hole that is not in the base yet when you hit it with a hammer
