[00:01:37] <alex4nder> FinboySlick: I think that's directly related to spindle load
[00:03:02] <FinboySlick> I'm probably just inexperienced. Most of my cuts have sounded like a skill saw through steel roofing.
[00:03:30] <alex4nder> what kind of mill do you have?
[00:03:47] <FinboySlick> Chinese Syil X5 Speedmaster.
[00:03:53] <alex4nder> ah cool
[00:04:25] <alex4nder> that's a pretty slick looking machine
[00:04:53] <FinboySlick> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQWaDXjdtCI This one shows part of why it's so noisy ;) That was a terrible setup.
[00:05:39] <FinboySlick> But as you can hear, even the spindle is noisy.
[00:05:43] <alex4nder> ah yah
[00:05:49] <FinboySlick> And the water pump to cool it is too.
[00:05:57] <alex4nder> what RPM is that running at?

[00:06:25] <FinboySlick> That was around 8000 I think. My spindle isn't supposed to spin lower than that.
[00:06:31] <alex4nder> ah ok
[00:07:03] <FinboySlick> I sort of bought it with small detailed parts in mind so I went for a high speed spindle.

[00:10:56] <ReadError> ahh ok
[00:11:19] <alex4nder> you can actually hear the load change
[00:12:15] <alex4nder> right as it pauses, it puts more load onto the spindle as it has more radial engagement angle at that point that at any other point in the rotation

[03:28:06] <Connor> You config EMC to send out a charge pump signal (Typical 12.5Khz signal). If the Charge Pump doesn't see the signal, it turns off the relay.. which, you should have wired into your Break Out Board, and power supply, disabling both..
[03:28:34] <djdelorie> do the charge pump signals stop when e-stop is asserted?
[03:28:49] <Connor> That way, if EMC locks up, the computer reboots or something.. You machine stops..
[03:28:53] <alex4nder> djdelorie: depends on how you configure it
[03:29:28] <Connor> Some people wire the E-Stop in so it's in series with the charge pump signal, so, hitting the E-Stop is the same as the charge pump tripping.
[03:29:51] <alex4nder> the G540 faults if it doesn't receive chargepump (with it enabled), and fault is the same input pin as e-stop
[03:30:10] <alex4nder> so I just send charge-pump all the time.
[03:30:23] <alex4nder> (for right now)
[03:32:39] <Connor> The reason for a 12.5Khz signal vs just a on/off is because the 12.5 requires software to generate it.. a on or off can be a fault..

[12:04:42] <JT-Shop> I've never seen a tool like the two handed one
[12:05:39] <JT-Shop> I visited a shop that makes light fixtures and they had several stations spinning the reflecters for outdoor lights
[12:08:27] <JT-Shop> they were all CNC metal spinners
[12:12:02] <Jymmm> This seems like WAY TOO MUCH EFFORT for an "air tank"

[12:14:44] <JT-Shop> some say waterproof some say water resistant some don't say
[12:14:56] <Jymmm> JT-Shop: Also, is there something special you have to do to cut fuse? Use high flint content wire cutters? Ceramic scissors?

[12:18:40] <Jymmm> I haven't seen real sparklers in 10+ years

[12:22:57] <Jymmm> All the big companies, City, and the colleges used to put on a nice aerial show, now no budget for it, can't buy/use fireworks, so now the neighborhood has better aerial fireworks than the city does!

[20:16:23] <alex4nder> yah, precisebits is just a marketing name..
[20:16:26] <alex4nder> joe9: how do they look?

[20:17:20] <alex4nder> ok
[20:17:28] <alex4nder> well I'll order some up
[20:17:38] <alex4nder> I looked around locally, and found jack and shit
[20:18:28] <Loetmichel> hrhr, i like double sided (carpet) tape... six pieces of slate leveled... with the same tape on the machine... ;-)
[20:18:38] <Loetmichel> http://bambuser.com/v/2642805
[20:19:22] <alex4nder> no vacuum table? ;)
[20:19:51] <Loetmichel> just doublesieded tape on a plastic table ;-)
[20:20:23] <joe9> Loetmichel: that is cool.
[20:20:29] <joe9> will have to check that out myself.
[20:20:41] <joe9> cannot believe it held it so well.
[20:20:44] <Loetmichel> bad thing: in the slate are some quarz inclusions... that NOT what the TC bit likes...

[20:22:32] <alex4nder> joe9: are you running Debian or something else?

[20:26:46] <Loetmichel> joe9: be careful when testing: i have a special carpet tape that is intended for temporaty fixing dance PVC-"carpet" to stages.
[20:27:16] <Loetmichel> it has one 15N side and a 50N side and a middle layer of paper, not plastic foil
[20:27:35] <elmo401> there is precision double sided tape. we used it a few times on our machines at work.
[20:27:42] <alex4nder> Loetmichel: does that stuff release with a heat gun?
[20:27:47] <elmo401> they guarantee 0.002" tolerance in flatness
[20:28:00] <Loetmichel> alex4nder: wit soapü and water if neccessary
[20:28:03] <Loetmichel> -ü
[20:28:13] <Loetmichel> but a heat gun will work also
[20:28:20] <Loetmichel> or 2-propanol
[20:28:26] <elmo401> yes, alcohol
[20:29:01] <mrsun> diff på ca 1mm över 4 meter vid träbyggnation, är det bra nog? :)
[20:29:19] <alex4nder> Loetmichel: I mean for release from the table.

[20:29:50] <Loetmichel> spray on, warit 2 min, wipe it offf
[20:30:04] <elmo401> how we did it was we used a block to stick the part on and put the block in the vice, then when done soaked the entire setup in a bucket of alcohol for a few hours.
[20:30:16] <mrsun> doh :P
[20:30:18] <mrsun> wrong channel :P
[20:30:18] <andypugh> There is stuff designed to replace spot-welding too, you probably don't want that one. 3M VHB tape.
[20:30:35] <elmo401> our part was 6" x 9" surface area. took longer then 2 min ;)
[20:30:36] <Loetmichel> 'cause the glue carrier is made of paper the alcohol can go through it and dissolve the glue underneath
[20:30:51] <elmo401> andypugh: ya, VHB rocks!
[20:30:59] <elmo401> GM uses it on their vehicle trim
[20:31:00] <alex4nder> ah
[20:31:19] <Loetmichel> andypugh; i have a tape similar to VHB in the company...
[20:31:28] <fragalot> I tried to use VHB tape for pcb milling
[20:31:35] <ReadError> so i noticed a huge difference in direction of cutting
[20:31:50] <ReadError> when i cut CCW, the finish on the inner part was much smoother
[20:31:51] <fragalot> worked great, apart from the fact that I ruined the boards trying to get them off again
[20:31:54] <fragalot> lol
[20:32:01] <ReadError> vs, CW, it was smoother on the outside
[20:32:06] <Loetmichel> one can tape a M6 nut to the wall and screw a stub in and hang your jacket on it :-)
[20:32:13] <elmo401> I saw a demo at a trade show. the guy took two pieces of 24" 3/4" I-beam, put only 2 strips, one at each end. sat the piece on top and waited 5min. then took the winch and raised both of them and started to add weights. it never released!
[20:32:53] <elmo401> ReadError: yes, Climb milling should net you a smoother finish
[20:33:09] <Loetmichel> fragalot: thats why i use the dancing carpet tape
[20:33:19] <elmo401> but if you do not have ballscrews you will get bad results ;)
[20:33:26] <Loetmichel> it has a defined difference in glue.
[20:33:40] <Loetmichel> one side has 15N to peel it off, the other 50 N
[20:33:50] <andypugh> Loetmichel: How do you telll which side is which?
[20:34:03] <Loetmichel> so you can tape it to the machine and gurantee that te workpiece has no tape on it
[20:34:46] <Loetmichel> andypugh: the side you have oben wenn fresh from the roll is tha 50N side, the one you have to peel the wax paper off is the 15N side.. Easy
[20:35:08] <Loetmichel> s/oben/open
[20:36:20] <elmo401> Loetmichel: what is the brand? have a website? I'd like to see this stuff
[20:36:47] <Loetmichel> sorry
[20:36:59] <Loetmichel> i kenw it from my ex-job (stage hand)
[20:37:10] <Loetmichel> so i asked my ex-boss to order me some
[20:37:49] <Loetmichel> was a german company, and i had to order a box full-> 50 rolls a 50m*50mm
[20:37:59] <fragalot> Loetmichel: yeah :P but the VHB was all I had lying around at the time
[20:38:00] <fragalot> xD
[20:38:07] <Loetmichel> so i have enough for lifetime, but dont know the manufactuurer ;-)
[20:38:48] <Loetmichel> wasnt dirt cheap either.
[20:38:57] <Loetmichel> the 50 rols were about 250$
[20:39:07] <fragalot> Loetmichel: VHB is like that price for a single one
[20:39:08] <fragalot> >.<
[20:39:36] <fragalot> Anyway 's getting late
[20:39:37] <fragalot> gnite all :)

[20:40:28] <Loetmichel> one roll 33m/30cm : 800++ eur....
[20:40:35] <Loetmichel> THATS expensive ;-)
