[01:09:44] <jdhNC> anyone using backlash compensation? does it do anything weird to circles?
[01:11:19] <archivist> backlash does it, the compensation tries to fix
[01:15:28] <jdhNC> it only does it on direction change?
[01:16:21] <jdhNC> it looks good (on my dial indicator) doing straight moves, just thought it might have problems at each quadrant
[01:17:37] <archivist> mechanical fix is better than software fix
[01:17:51] <jdhNC> yeah, I just don't have any time
[01:18:59] <jdhNC> I mainly do straight cuts so in general, my cuts are just .004 short
[01:19:35] <jdhNC> which is pretty much lost on a cheap router cutting hpde

[18:12:27] <pjm> cnc-9Achs i think back when I used the parport for step/dir I used EPP
[18:12:45] <pjm> since then tho I've moved to a 7i43 card for more I/O
[18:13:50] <cnc-9Achs> someone els how agrees to set to epp
[18:16:47] <pjm> are u using the parport to output step/direction etc?
[18:17:03] <cnc-9Achs> yes on 5 axis
[18:17:29] <pjm> ok for 5 axis u might quickly run out of IO pins unless you have more than one parport

[23:36:51] <jdhNC> and the slots fit? would a bigger t-nut fit?
[23:37:04] <Connor> No. the T-nuts for 3/8 are exact match.

[23:38:49] <Connor> gotta be careful about WHAT the measurement is..
[23:39:08] <Connor> I think the measurement is the stud diameter, not the T-nut size.
[23:39:11] <andypugh> It's the width of the slot on the machine bed.
[23:39:28] <andypugh> (AFAIK)
[23:39:36] <Connor> andypugh: That's what you need it to match, but, the venders say, 3/8" Bolt Size

[23:44:50] <jdhNC> it's at least twice as big/heavy as my 480oz/in 23
[23:45:43] <Connor> Ah, they're silly, the smaller clamps they count as singles.. HF is the only one to specify the correct # of parts in the kit.. *boggle*
[23:45:51] <andypugh> jdhNC: Possibly the torque spec is actual rated, rather than peak static
[23:47:04] <jdhNC> andy: oh... any way to compare the two?
[23:47:21] <Connor> compare the spec sheets side by side.
[23:47:42] <jdhNC> this one is pretty old... do they not make round ones anymore?
[23:48:08] <andypugh> Round is old-school, but I think that is just fashion
[23:48:22] <jdhNC> Up to 150% rated torque reserve capacity
[23:48:26] <Connor> square probably better heat sink.
[23:48:41] <andypugh> However, if it is old enough, it might not have rare-earth magnets, and so will be a fair bit weaker pound-for-pound
