[11:45:57] <jthornton> I can't seem to find much info on isolcpus except to add it to boot/grub/grub.cfg
[11:51:32] <Valen> what is your latency now?
[11:51:50] <awallin_> without: http://www.anderswallin.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/latency_load2.png
[11:52:00] <Valen> easiest way to add it for "testing" (if its not there) is to do it at the grub menu at boot

[14:29:22] <skunkworks> Did I mention that emc is running great on the k&t? ;) I did find a bug in my shift logic. (it was a mistake in the gcode but it still should work...) I had a s2300m03 and on the next line I had a s2000 which should not have been there. it goes into spindle creep and stays there. Have to look into that.
[14:51:38] <skunkworks> btw - all the servos don't seem to get warm at all. even the vertical y axis. yay

[14:59:24] <pcw_home> That's the good thing about servos, they don't work any harder that they need to
[14:59:39] <JT-Work> dang, took forever to find chatzilla on firefox4
[15:04:22] <skunkworks> spindle gets warm at 2500rpm :)
[15:06:12] -!- s34n [s34n!~chatzilla@ip-208-76-93-210.mvdsl.com] has joined #emc
[15:06:19] <cradek> do you also have a smaller machine for high speed/small tool work?
[15:07:30] <skunkworks> cradek: not yet. we do have a few spindle options - die grinder and a dc motor with a collet.
[15:07:36] <s34n> is anyone here working with torchmate equipment?
[15:07:40] <skunkworks> 20k and 10k
[15:07:50] <cradek> ah right - that helps a lot.
[15:07:50] <skunkworks> pcw_home: did you see http://imagebin.org/index.php?mode=image&id=144375
[15:12:13] <pcw_home> That's your hydraulic control valve?
[15:12:20] <skunkworks> yes
[15:13:22] <pcw_home> Not so rusty inside I would hope...
[15:14:34] <pcw_home> 450 mA is +-9V into 20 Ohms
[15:14:51] <skunkworks> http://imagebin.org/index.php?mode=image&id=144374
[15:15:15] <skunkworks> heh
[15:15:21] <skunkworks> ^runs that
[15:16:09] <pcw_home> dont know if it needs a higher voltage current controlled source for speed or if +-10V is ok
[15:17:03] <pcw_home> I'd be tempted to try a power Op-Amp
[15:18:11] <skunkworks> probably - I think the cards that ran it had 2 transistor push pull.
[15:19:33] <cradek> wonder how much work is involved in 7i49 support. that's what you're really going to want I bet.
[15:22:24] <skunkworks> ooh - neat. the jog knobs are also resolver
[15:22:46] <skunkworks> http://imagebin.org/index.php?mode=image&id=144376
[15:23:01] <skunkworks> I am planning on goofing around with andys interface when it gets here.
[15:27:40] <pcw_home> The 7I49 interface will not fit in a 5I20 either
[15:27:48] <skunkworks> oh
[15:29:29] <pcw_home> I tried but it would take a fair amount of squeezing to fit
[15:30:25] <skunkworks> well - maybe a 5i23 is in order :)
[15:31:14] <skunkworks> or 22
[15:32:40] <pcw_home> 23 is big enough ( the built in multipliers in then Spartan3 help a lot)
[15:36:06] -!- nullie has quit [Quit: Ex-Chat]
[15:46:07] <pcw_home> Also the high pinout FPGA cards will less needed with the serial expansion options
[15:46:35] <skunkworks> for that lathe - that should be more than enough i/o
[15:46:59] <skunkworks> although I think I said the same thing on the k&t - 96 i/o should be more than enough... ;)

[15:49:07] <pcw_home> If you still want to use OPTO22s we will have a serial I/O option for them as well (7I69 = remote 48 TTL I/O)
[15:49:32] <skunkworks> stop it! too many cool addons!
[15:50:59] <pcw_home> so you can run 2x 24 I/O module racks with one cat 5 (up to 100 feet away)
[15:52:22] -!- ve7it [ve7it!~LawrenceG@S0106009027972e37.pk.shawcable.net] has joined #emc
[15:52:59] <pcw_home> only trade off with the serial I/O is inputs are always one servo period late (and no base thread access at leas nothing faster than 5-10 KHz or so)
[15:55:26] <skunkworks> for most things - that would be fine. turret control and such
[15:57:23] <pcw_home> Its still real time, just one servo cycle late (because we dont want to hold up the host CPU waiting for returned data)
[16:03:23] <anonimasu> I saw something nicely machined today
[16:03:43] <anonimasu> the parts stuck togther...
[16:04:08] <anonimasu> the finish werent super special, but when the bar went into the U slot it stuck.

[16:32:01] <JT-Work> ah, yea I remember now
[16:32:48] * JT-Work now goes back to wondering how I will make this part
[17:00:12] <atom1> hi noon and everyone else
[17:00:35] <JT-Work> lol
[17:01:33] <atom1> was rumaging thru the local junk tool guy's place this am
[17:01:46] <atom1> all kinds of stuff but nothing really goes together
[17:02:08] <atom1> had some 4" drills with a mt end
[17:02:13] <atom1> didn't need those
[17:03:12] <JT-Work> 4" in diameter?
[17:03:17] <atom1> yeah

[17:04:05] <atom1> scaling down
[17:04:41] <atom1> had quite a few horizontal mill cutters
[17:10:13] <s34n> archivist: I'm trying to sniff out emc for use with a torchmate plasma cutter.
[17:10:25] <s34n> archivist: I'm doing so for a friend
[17:10:55] <s34n> archivist: I don't have a lot info on the cutter
[17:11:02] <archivist> s34n, at least one person in here has a plasma with emc on it
[17:11:06] <s34n> I've never done any cnc work myself
[17:11:15] <JT-Work> yep
[17:11:35] <archivist> we know it can be done
[17:11:42] <s34n> I'm wondering what deivce to shoose the first time I start emc
[17:11:52] <s34n> s/shoose/choose/
[17:12:11] <s34n> s/deivce/device/
[17:12:43] <awallin_> axis-sim? if you don't have hardware attached
[17:13:04] <s34n> ok
[17:13:10] <s34n> sounds reasonable.
[17:13:26] <JT-Work> looks like they use steppers
[17:14:08] <JT-Work> s34n: does he have a system now or?
[17:14:58] <JT-Work> PC based control software with USB interface
[17:15:10] <JT-Work> that don't look too good
[17:15:37] <s34n> JT-Work: he has the torch now
[17:15:55] <s34n> JT-Work: itdoes look like steppers
[17:16:57] <s34n> he currently uses bobcad, autocad lite, and torchmate software all together to get anything cut
[17:18:14] <s34n> Even simple lettering has to go through all three apps to get cut.
[17:18:15] <JT-Work> is the link from the computer to torchmate a usb cable?
[17:18:31] <s34n> looked like a parallel cable to me
[17:19:20] <s34n> at least it connected to the 25-pin parallel port on the PC
[17:20:05] <JT-Work> ok, if the stepper drives take step and direction inputs it should be s rather simple conversion for that part
[17:20:11] <JT-Work> does he have a THC
[17:20:16] <s34n> no
[17:20:38] <s34n> height is set manually
[17:22:16] <JT-Work> should be simple then and he can add a THC when he adds a Z axis

[18:45:25] <danimal_garage> Hi John
[18:45:29] <danimal_garage> how goes it
[18:45:53] <JT-Work> good, did you get the encoder sorted out
[18:46:51] <danimal_garage> yea i ordered a 2500ppr differential medium duty encoder
[18:46:55] <danimal_garage> well, 2 of them
[18:47:53] <danimal_garage> ordered my pulleys and belts too
[18:48:09] <JT-Work> cool, what are you putting them on?
[18:48:22] <IchGuckLive> what is the price of this encoder
[18:48:36] <danimal_garage> $172 each
[18:48:41] <danimal_garage> my mill
[18:48:43] <IchGuckLive> nice
[18:48:51] <danimal_garage> remember i was having positioning problems?
[18:49:01] <JT-Work> yes, what was it?
[18:49:12] <danimal_garage> drive issues
[18:49:19] <JT-Work> yuck
[18:49:21] <danimal_garage> they got noisy when it was hot
[18:49:35] <danimal_garage> so the quadrature outputs got screwy
[18:49:42] <JT-Work> and summer is on the way
[18:49:49] <danimal_garage> yea
[18:50:14] <danimal_garage> so i'm bypassing the outputs and just mounting encoders on the ballscrews
[18:50:53] <danimal_garage> plus i'm gearing it down a little
[18:50:59] <JT-Work> so you still have tacho feedback from the motor to the drive?
[18:51:19] <danimal_garage> no, resolver
[18:51:34] <danimal_garage> but same difference, for commutation purposes
[18:51:37] <JT-Work> yea
[18:52:16] <danimal_garage> so i'm not really doing anything bad
[18:52:23] <JT-Work> the drive has an encoder output that was generated from the resolver info?
[18:52:27] <danimal_garage> yes
[18:52:32] <danimal_garage> and that was screwy
[18:52:35] <JT-Work> ok, gotcha
[18:52:57] <danimal_garage> the gear reduction will be easier on the drives

[18:56:56] <skunkworks> wiring in the garage? I have garage door openers and 1 outlet. :)
[18:57:11] <JT-Work> no the shop
[18:57:47] <JT-Work> when I get all the crap out of the garage I'll wire it properly and finish insulating it :)
