it's under control now so it is just a matter of time...
I think I can set this on on your table skunkworks
theorb is now known as theorbtwo
yea, if the control sucks it won't take me long to EMC it

2 axis index homing!
how's Z backlash?
have not got that far :)
I think we can live with that :)
inch or mm?
tenths of an inch? that would be 2.5mm.. thats quite alot!?
ah okay... 2 tenths of 1/1000 inch.. now I get it :)
sorry for asking,... but in fact, I dont get the imperial sys#tem :)
me either ;)
its quite hard to understand for european people. at least for me :)
"Walk a kilometer in his shoes" just doens't have the same inpacy imo
skunkworks: that sounds great
1 more axis to go :)
anything hard about y?
nope - just needs to be donw
yay you'll have it tomorrow I bet
hope Y is tight as X, so you can put a probe on it and use it as a cmm like I do
unless of course you already have a real cmm...
I think z is probably the worse
we goofed around with y a few months ago and could not feel any backlash
z could probably be tightened up some more - but we will probably run it for a bit and see if it stays consistant.
I am sore. :)
.0002 doesn't matter - your screw will grow and shrink more than that
yes - I am not 100% sure about the scaling - doing a quick check - I seemed to be about .015 off over about 15 inches
so - either it isn't 5mm per turn - or the ballscrews are not exactly 3tpi
what do you have for a 15" standard?
we have a 3ft caliper
wait - it must be 2ft
should have measured x.
it's not immediately clear to me how you'd use that...
ran out of steam
we used it like depth micrometer
along the way
oh the sticky out end
yeah you could approach that step with a dti (same direction both times)
probably not perfect - (not really worried yet) ;)
very happy so far. :)

that must be this virtualization and cloud-computing that everyone is talking about nowadays
awallin: surely :)
hey guys im back again and still having problems
[#emc] "This is the #emc channel - talk related to the Enhanced Machine Controller and general machining. Website: http://www.linuxcnc.org/,
wiki at http://wiki.linuxcnc.org/"
cradek: that is pretty close to what I got manually (raising the output scale until the amp gain was almost all the way up :))
cool, so it works right when you fix the scale?
yes - I get the 200ipm I am shooting for
did you see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QU_O_Z7Vv8c
yes very cool :-)
dad is busy getting y working
hope not ;)
I bet the end is in sight now, you'll both be unstoppable
skunkworks: looks like 1" acme in your video to me
skunkworks: When you get it all completed, you can make me a a 1" PCB with 40 thru hole components
skunkworks: My, you have tiny hands =)
VMC in center of trailer --- check, shower --- check, cold Weihenstephaner Original Premium --- in progress, nap --- up next
jthornton: Always good to have a plan ;)
jthornton: WHERE'S THE BEEF?
it's going to be chicken
I love it when a plan comes together :)
jthornton: road trip remix tape?
can't carry a tune in a bucket :/
wee! no supporting 4x4's http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f163/johnplctech/BP380%20VMC/BP380-06.jpg

is that tire low on air?
the left rear?
[17:22:25] <jthornton> http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f163/johnplctech/BP380%20VMC/BP380-08.jpg
I"m going to say all four trailer tires
no, they had 65 psig in them in those photos
Ah. Not going to strap it down?
I drove it home with 20 psig in the left rear but could not tell as all the weight was on the front axle
car trailers are cool, you can use them for anything!
Has anyone ever worked with homasote or sound board??? http://www.housatonicrr.com/images/ConstJournal01/PlyHomasoteAndRisers.jpg
that one is twice as strong as a normal run of the mill trailer with 8 ply trailer tires
I was planning on using is for sound proofing, but when I saw it at the store, in BIG 18" letters on each sheet it says "Sparks may cause ignition"
could be exciting
jthornton: Yeah, the tires look beefier
Not in this case, I need to line a air scrubber cabinet that has a small dust collector in it with the stuff.
2-3tons ? CNC waight
whats the common name for this rubber things you mount equipment on ?
that's the COMMN name? I thought it was dampener or something like that
a damper goes in your ductwork
cold beer --- check, nap --- starting
* frallzor butchered the old gamepad yesterday to make it useful as a proper pendant
Can anyone tink of materials that are heavy and soft (like lead or neoprene)?
frallzor: Well, it dries hard.
depends on which type
some keeps soft
and need waterless material
heavy and soft, as well as porus is the best
primarily the exhaust
I'm mounting the DC inside the air scrubber
cradek: thanks for the formula - I don't know when I thought it was 9v/3.333 ;) I must have slipped a cog
cradek: and I love the homing dance
I have not done the thump fix. ( I am homing pretty slow and I can just barely hear the thump)
When it finds the index and resets.

skunkworks: that's your kearney&trekker doing the 22" circle on youtube?
oh anyone around that want to help me make some exercisecode for my machine?
looks like a big machine! more than 22" travel on X?
pallet-changer on the table?
there is no pallet on the machine at the moment. both pallets are on the pallet changers
x is 38" y is 36" and z is 24"
for big parts then... :)
[19:35:45] <skunkworks> http://electronicsam.com/images/KandT/oldkandt.JPG
that is a 60's picture :)
remember the lab-coat as you stand before emc2
how many rpm and HP on the spindle?
Fox_M|afk is now known as Fox_Mulder
we are going to limit it to 3000rpm. If we need higher - we mount a high speed spindle
the thing has a 16 speed gear box
maybe the 60's vector VFD wasn't all that good at providing torque at low rpm
originally - it had a hydraulic motor for the spindle. (we replaced it with a 5hp 3phase with a vfd)

Leave it to Mariss to shut everyone up =)

cradek you might like that
click on it
[21:53:21] <cradek> http://norvig.com/Gettysburg/sld001.htm
It's a slide presentation in SVG, only 5KB
you can use arrow or scrollwheel to go back
cradek: it's all a single file
Jymmm: I guess it would be cool if people can make slideshows with free software, even though slideshows aren't my thing
cradek: It was made with inkscape and a extension
cradek: I hate slideshows too, but I like the it's a single SVG file viewable in broweser or donaloadable and play locally without anything special installed (office)
