Back
[00:00:07] <Jymmm> at least it's not 220 3p
[00:08:21] <Valen> all our 240v stuff here is 10A
[00:08:35] <Valen> unless its unusual
[05:17:24] <Jymmm> http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/tls/1784405059.html
[06:18:46] <elmo40> would be difficult to make a 90deg mount for a 4th axis...
[06:19:13] <elmo40> and these things don't have bearings, just a huge surface that it 'slides' on.
[06:19:56] <elmo40> ouch. BP shares down 5.48 (15.80%)
[06:20:02] <elmo40> in one day!
[06:20:15] <elmo40> imagine, losing 15% of your portfolio. in one day!!!
[07:24:29] <Jymmm> Better than loosing oil in the ocean
[07:24:53] <alex_joni> losing
[07:25:02] <Jymmm> alex_joni: you loser!
[07:26:14] <alex_joni> :P
[07:26:17] <bricofoy> lol
[07:28:05] <alex_joni> "After the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill BP's stock fell by 52% in only 50 days on the Dow Jones Industrial Average, going from $60.57 on April 20 to $29.20 on June 9, its lowest level since August 1996, a 14 year low."
[07:28:44] <archivist> time to buy, profit !
[07:29:54] <alex_joni> archivist: "Many economists claim BP may have to file for bankruptcy or be taken over by Shell Oil Company or ExxonMobil as a result of the spill"
[07:30:17] <Jymmm> 13.5 OZ
[07:30:25] <archivist> I dont believe that alex_joni
[07:30:36] <alex_joni> archivist: I didn't really closely follow
[07:30:59] <Jymmm> archivist: After the cleanup costs + fines, they might.
[07:32:04] <archivist> they will then counter sue their supplier the rig company
[07:32:22] <Jymmm> Great, so they go BK too.
[07:33:10] <archivist> rig company that was doing the work yes BP no
[07:33:48] <Jymmm> I suspect that BP said no to the safety device.
[07:38:39] <Jymmm> Ok, if you poured motoroil into a plastic 2cup measuring cup. how much do you think you would remain once you empty it?
[07:39:07] <Jymmm> 10W-30 if it matters
[07:46:23] <elmo40> you pour 2cups into a measuring cup, then dump it? I would say 10mL, maybe 5
[07:46:52] <Jymmm> I'll find out tomorrow =)
[07:46:55] <elmo40> if it is glass, 15 to 20mL
[07:47:11] <elmo40> but you said plastic... it will be less
[07:47:23] <Jymmm> I'd think I'd lose more with plastic than glass.
[07:47:36] <Jymmm> plastic absorbs
[07:48:18] <elmo40> glass is 'sticky' to liquids.
[07:48:38] <elmo40> tryit and compare :)
[07:49:18] <Jymmm> Nah, I'll hit the dollar store tomorrow and p/u a plastic measuring cup, they weight the results (to the gram)
[07:49:31] <Jymmm> s/they/then/
[12:53:50] <frallzor> * frallzor is bored
[13:34:44] <frallzor> soo.... whose alive? =)
[13:35:45] <elmo40> * elmo40 isn't
[13:41:54] <frallzor> heh ubuntu ppl has short concencration span :P
[13:42:39] <elmo40> huh? what did you say?
[13:42:41] <elmo40> ;)
[13:43:00] <frallzor> tried getting help in ubuntu :P
[13:43:15] <frallzor> a second later they was answering other things :P
[13:43:19] <frallzor> *they were
[13:45:15] <elmo40> it happens
[13:45:19] <elmo40> help for what?
[13:45:49] <frallzor> getting my touchscreen working
[13:46:01] <frallzor> would be fund to fix myself
[13:46:04] <frallzor> *fun
[13:47:58] <frallzor> starting to see I cant do it :P
[13:49:01] <elmo40> does it connect with a usb?
[13:49:08] <frallzor> yup
[13:49:40] <frallzor> pretty sure im allmost doing right, but I just cant get it to use the correct driver
[13:53:30] <elmo40> lsusb displays the info that you need to find the correct kernel module loaded?
[13:54:03] <frallzor> well I know whats going and and what being used
[13:54:16] <frallzor> but the way that should load the right driver = no go
[14:03:15] <cradek> neat. I had not seen this style of tool changer before. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qeQ2rooVrPU&feature=related
[14:03:44] <cradek> it's fast because there is no prep and all tools are equally near the spindle. but it seems like it must have a LOT of moving parts.
[14:05:32] <cradek> another: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNViLrtKyqY&NR=1
[14:09:19] <archivist> hmm different, not as fast as that brother machine though
[14:09:20] <elmo40> too many moving parts.
[14:09:33] <elmo40> but yes, each tool has a toolchanger arm.
[14:09:40] <pcw_home> lots of parts... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=piQtqFakjlw&feature=related
[14:10:06] <archivist> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4XYakTeQahA
[14:10:15] <elmo40> seems odd having the tool changer arm stay on the tool when machining.
[14:10:26] <SWPLinux> you only need one "powered" moving part
[14:10:40] <SWPLinux> the levers can be pushed by a cam that moves around the periphery (quickly)
[14:11:39] <elmo40> cradek: that second vid. I didn't know it was a palleted vertical. SMALL work space!
[14:11:41] <SWPLinux> or even pushes out from the center - the tool holders can be spring-loaded pivoting arms
[14:12:29] <elmo40> especially with that door that angles onto the table. makes having a large vice out of the question
[14:13:32] <SWPLinux> heh, but apparently they didn't do it that way :)
[14:14:56] <elmo40> archivist: ya, seen that one. DAMN fast. but looks like it isn't a typical CNC tool holder... not a CAT40 or anything like that.
[14:15:18] <pcw_home> the chiiron toolchanger seems to be about as fast as the Brother even though it must be a much older design
[14:15:20] <pcw_home> (but limited in # of tools)
[14:15:56] <elmo40> must be HSK.
[14:17:53] <elmo40> a nicely laid out list of tool holders: http://www.maritool.com/Tool-Holders/c23/index.html
[14:18:09] <elmo40> we have a couple machines at work that use the HSK
[14:18:19] <elmo40> 25 and 55,000 RPM spindles on them.
[14:29:16] <bricofoy> the brother machine on the video archivist posted is incredibly fast Oo how the hell can them have such accelerations?
[14:35:02] <i_tarzan> elmo40: prices are sky high, 5x chinese
[14:40:33] <skunkworks> Thursday!
[14:41:56] <cradek> so it is...
[14:42:17] <cradek> in a week, we'll be on the road again - just can't wait to get on the road again
[14:50:59] <skunkworks> again?
[14:51:07] <skunkworks> where have you been lateley
[14:51:09] <skunkworks> ?
[14:51:42] <cradek> nowhere for a while. (it's a song lyric.)
[14:52:48] <skunkworks> heh - sorry. A little slow this morning.
[15:15:50] <elmo40> i_tarzan: are they 5x quality?
[15:34:26] <i_tarzan> maybe not but a machinist doesnt depend on the cost of his tools
[15:55:16] <cradek> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGj32Dc2TCI
[16:25:00] <skunkworks> that was unexpected..
[16:25:03] <skunkworks> ;)
[16:33:54] <cradek> seb_kuzminsky: repair/calibration instructions for that not-quite-right digital calipers you have: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGj32Dc2TCI
[16:47:18] <archivist_attic> hehe, he has not met a good mitutoyo digital obviously
[16:49:33] <elmo401> even the cheap chinese digital verniers hold accuracy fairly well. they do wear out and become sloppy much faster, though... must not be hardened properly (or at all)
[16:52:35] <archivist_attic> I have some glass calibration blocks which I test them with, the gib screws come loose and need adjusting mostly else they are good for the price
[16:56:19] <elmo401> glass blocks?
[16:56:22] <elmo401> not ceramic?
[16:58:36] <archivist_attic> yup clear glass, they are a set of 1" ans 1.5" and a couple of others to check micrometers at various settings and angles of the thimble
[16:58:55] <archivist_attic> .5 not 1.5
[16:59:44] <seb_kuzminsky> cool cradek, thanks
[17:00:14] <seb_kuzminsky> just what i needed
[17:01:11] <seb_kuzminsky> i'm expecting him to clamp the mitu micrometer in the vise next...
[17:03:07] <korb> someone want to trade 2 sun openstorage 7110 for 1 emc cx4 ?
[17:03:13] <korb> sun has just fucked up
[17:03:27] <seb_kuzminsky> wrong emc, korb ;-)
[17:04:04] <korb> oh
[17:04:05] <korb> i see
[17:04:06] <korb> hehe
[17:04:08] <korb> sorry then
[17:04:11] <seb_kuzminsky> heh np
[17:04:19] <korb> bad bad day
[17:04:29] <seb_kuzminsky> sucks to be that dude
[17:05:35] <Jymmm> heh
[17:05:36] <frallzor> hey i allmost fixed the touch myself!
[17:06:39] <frallzor> just need to get calibrate going now
[17:23:06] <frallzor> and action!!
[17:23:09] <frallzor> I am awesome
[17:23:51] <frallzor> I have no idea on what I did but I did it :P
[17:24:27] <elmo401> I hate those ones.
[17:24:43] <frallzor> well I hade some idea
[17:24:53] <frallzor> didnt like it but I had to disable mouse
[17:24:58] <frallzor> but hey I wont be using it anyway
[17:25:09] <elmo401> 'just got it going... somehow' Grr, if I can't repeat it then it is not a scientific experiment. It is called an anomaly :P
[17:25:18] <frallzor> now lets see if it still works after hard reboot
[17:25:48] <elmo401> good test
[17:26:20] <frallzor> oh yeah baby
[17:26:20] <Endeavour> My CNC Router ships today. :)
[17:34:04] <elmo401> nice
[17:46:51] <skunkworks> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTZrsJsasOU
[17:46:54] <skunkworks> art is writing this
[17:50:47] <jlmjvm> i thought he had retired
[17:52:16] <SWPLinux> from Mach, yes
[17:52:18] <SWPLinux> see you latert
[17:52:22] <SWPLinux> -t
[17:53:24] <frallzor> wiie the wall mount for the screen is up!
[17:55:07] <Jymmm> skunkworks: you cnczone whore!
[17:59:27] <skunkworks> heh - actually - I saw that on groups.yahoo
[17:59:55] <Jymmm> skunkworks: my bad... You Yahoo groups whore!
[18:01:07] <Jymmm> Hey, does anyone have any METAL wire sparklers in their area?
[18:01:20] <Jymmm> Not those paper crap ones
[18:01:32] <cradek> ours have always been metal
[18:01:41] <Jymmm> cradek: Really??????
[18:01:51] <cradek> yeah, seriously I've never seen a paper one
[18:02:15] <Jymmm> cradek: They're total crap. Not even worth the effort.
[18:02:15] <frallzor> * frallzor just mounted the monitor on its place and its turning out awesome
[18:02:22] <frallzor> I love that my old computer broke!
[18:02:34] <Jymmm> * Jymmm hands frallzor a roll of duct tape.
[18:02:39] <awallin> skunkworks: there are childrens drawing kits with those kind of gears. great fun!
[18:03:00] <Jymmm> cradek: you remember about how much a box or package of them are?
[18:03:41] <Jymmm> iirc there were six boxes to a package.
[18:04:39] <cradek> no idea
[18:04:49] <skunkworks> I didn't know they made paper ones..
[18:05:01] <cradek> maybe a california thing?
[18:05:11] <skunkworks> I suppose the will take an eye out.... ;)
[18:05:16] <skunkworks> *they
[18:06:11] <Jymmm> skunkworks: Yeah everything is. They outlawed ALL fireworks here, even safe and sane. I have to hop over to the net county to buy them.
[18:06:23] <Jymmm> s/net/next/
[18:06:53] <skunkworks> here it is - I have to hop over to the next county to buy the good stuff ;)
[18:07:20] <skunkworks> (rockets and fire cracker type stuff)
[18:08:35] <skunkworks> they sell the normal stuff at walmart... (sparklers and what ever else is deemed 'safe')
[18:09:07] <frallzor> http://pici.se/p/IoUrGEEpl/ yeeey =D
[18:09:10] <Jymmm> Well, since EVERYTHING is illegal in this county, everyone in the neighborhood fires off the HUGE fireworks. The kind that you go to shows to watch.
[18:10:33] <Jymmm> It's kinda cool actually. Instead of just having the places like the theme parks and college shows. There are mini shows all over.
[18:12:31] <elmo401> Jymmm: silly gov't, making things 'illegal'
[18:13:03] <elmo401> I thought they were created to help society strive, not force our hands in our pockets.
[18:13:45] <Jymmm> elmo401: Well, it's moe dumbass mudder fscking parents that hand a 3000F sparkler to a 3yo and wonder why they got burned, and screwed it up for the rest of us.
[18:15:05] <Jymmm> s/moe/more/
[18:15:24] <elmo401> no, it is the silly women in authoritative positions that screwed it up... they are the ones that made the dumb decision and lump us ALL in the same category: you are all stupid, you need the gov't to keep you alive.
[18:15:58] <elmo401> I don't care if 30 children in the same block have dumb ass parents that let them burn their faces off... Survival of the Fittest!
[18:16:08] <Jymmm> hey, I'm all for the dumbasses to kill themselves. Natural Selection =)
[18:16:26] <elmo401> gov't all over the world are killing Darwins theory but meddling
[18:16:45] <elmo401> s/but/buy
[18:17:01] <Jymmm> s/buy/by/
[18:18:10] <Jymmm> I soak down the yard and fences, keep 5gal buckets of water handy as well as the hose.
[18:23:49] <skunkworks> so - if I want to run emc2 on lucid as just simulator - can I follow the directions to get the Git - then follow the directions to build the simulator?
[18:24:26] <seb_kuzminsky> skunkworks: should work, that's what i do
[18:24:51] <seb_kuzminsky> which reaminds me, i need to set up a lucid sim buildslave on the buildbot... maybe at the cnc workshop at the end of the month
[18:26:10] <jlmjvm> i wish you could still get the real m80 firecrackers
[18:26:52] <awallin> seb_kuzminsky: throw in ocl in the buildbot too so I don't have to answer all these Qs on setting up the build env.
[18:27:33] <seb_kuzminsky> i'll have to set up a second buildbot for ocl, but that job is on my wish/todo list
[18:27:44] <seb_kuzminsky> and for heekscad and all its crazy dependencies
[18:27:47] <seb_kuzminsky> bbl, lunch]
[18:30:13] <Jymmm> jlmjvm: I think you can in Texas
[18:35:22] <Jymmm> jlmjvm: I was told you can buy bottle rockets in the grocery stores in Texas, but that was a ways back.
[18:37:31] <skunkworks> seb_kuzminsky: how did you add the emc info to synaptic?
[18:37:39] <skunkworks> (repository)
[18:46:00] <frallzor> ubuntu is just a big pile of **********************
[18:46:01] <frallzor> =)
[18:46:20] <frallzor> all works fine in here, move the computer to the mill and then the touch isnt working again
[18:47:44] <frallzor> that makes one so effing happy =)
[18:56:51] <frallzor> is it possible to "lock" a units event/input number?
[18:56:58] <frallzor> so that the touch allways is like 2?
[19:10:19] <oddnamezor> oddnamezor is now known as frallzor
[20:26:20] <Martinp23> [Global Notice] Our webchat is experiencing big changes! Channel ops: you may need to fix some of your bans or quiets as a result. All the details can be found at http://bit.ly/ckfqLh and you can get help at any time in #freenode. Thanks for using freenode and have a great day!
[21:02:02] <ries_> ries_ is now known as ries
[21:04:27] <andypugh> Quiet on here tomight
[21:08:43] <alex_joni> so you'd think
[21:09:53] <frallzor> * frallzor is kicking back
[21:10:53] <frallzor> http://www.pici.se/p/lFPRtMpwP/ this makes me happy, it works!
[21:11:07] <alex_joni> fragalot: heh
[21:11:15] <alex_joni> frallzor: :P
[21:11:17] <fragalot> Boo.
[21:11:48] <frallzor> got the machine back to life an hour ago
[21:11:57] <frallzor> it wagged its tail
[21:13:44] <alex_joni> fragalot: sorry, couldn't resist
[21:14:07] <alex_joni> here's something funny to make you feel better: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/06/10/spymobile_light_speed/
[21:14:29] <fragalot> alex_joni: :P
[22:38:23] <Jymmm> SWPLinux: where you at?
[22:39:47] <SWPLinux> Chicago, on the way home
[22:40:20] <Jymmm> ah, pick me up a chicago dog
[22:40:52] <SWPLinux> sure, but it might be a little stale by the time I see you next ;)
[22:41:13] <Jymmm> ok, nm
[22:41:40] <Jymmm> wiat, go ahead and get it, I can deal with stale
[22:41:43] <archivist> dont stay at the La Salle Motor Lodge in Chicago
[22:42:09] <morfic> i shouldn't have thought installing an IDE was a good idea, turns out i had/have a few unresolved lib upgrade issues i can now settle first :P
[22:42:35] <Jymmm> morfic: vim for the win!
[22:43:22] <frallzor> SWPadnos not a single complaint yet on the new rig like with the old =)
[22:43:23] <SWPLinux> I use SATA these days
[22:43:34] <frallzor> and im down at 14000us
[22:43:51] <morfic> i am not a vimmer, sorry Jymmm
[22:43:52] <Jymmm> SWPLinux: LOL... Intergrated Development Invironment
[22:44:17] <SWPLinux> heh. duh!
[22:44:20] <morfic> SWPadnos: what Jymmm said
[22:44:32] <Jymmm> Enviroment even
[22:44:34] <SWPLinux> like the ones I've been using since Turbo Pascal?
[22:44:48] <Jymmm> SWPLinux: No, since BASIC
[22:45:10] <SWPLinux> I never used an IDE for BASIC
[22:45:35] <morfic> been so long i actually used one i figured installing 2 > 1
[22:46:47] <SWPLinux> I installed Eclipse on some hard drive somewhere (for Android development), but I never got around to learning how the heck to use it
[22:47:00] <SWPLinux> I have used Anjuta, which is pretty good (when it isn't crashing)
[22:47:26] <Jymmm> CTRL+S is your friend
[22:47:54] <SWPLinux> yes
[22:48:04] <morfic> anjuta since i used it in past and 2nd is codeblocks since it sounded good to try too, eclipse was too big for my taste
[22:48:27] <SWPLinux> rhide is supposed to be similar to the old DOS Borland C++ days (the good old days, IMO)
[22:48:59] <morfic> SWPadnos: interesting, android is only reason i had it, but then i limited myself to optimizing the phone's kernel and call it a day, so no eclipse use really
[22:49:33] <SWPLinux> yeah, and with it being so darned simple to download to a Verizon Droid (NOT!), I never tried all that hard
[22:50:16] <SWPLinux> I think I tried Code::Blocks at some point also, but I don't remember if I thought anything of it (good or bad)
[22:50:36] <morfic> my mytouch is rooted, and i have access to fastboot, so it's all good, if the 2nd liquid owuldn't also have a bad screen i would love to work on that kernel, but Acer sent me two bad phones, yay, all this testing time to have a non working phone in the end :/
[22:50:48] <SWPLinux> I actually use Kate (the KDE text editor) when I want to edit multiple/many files
[22:51:19] <morfic> right now i use nano with syntax highlighting, since i am not using vim enough to ever "get it"
[22:51:20] <SWPLinux> hmm. I should contact OpenMoko and see if they'll ever send me a replacement FreeRunner
[22:51:32] <SWPLinux> try Kate, it's actually not bad
[22:51:59] <SWPLinux> I haven't been able to get the embedded terminal working on recent-ish versions of Ubuntu, but haven't tried too hard either
[22:52:06] <morfic> i think i asked once too often to get a working one, when they sent the neat AMOLED 3.7" ones out, i didn't get one :
[22:52:08] <morfic> :/
[22:52:48] <SWPLinux> hmm. bbiab
[23:02:26] <SWPLinux> bummer, no upgrade
[23:16:39] <SWPLinux> morfic, http://linuxmafia.com/faq/Devtools/ides.html
[23:16:45] <SWPLinux> boarding time. see you later
[23:20:33] <kbarry> anybuddy here used a plastic extruder before?
[23:20:42] <kbarry> (Like as in a plastic prototyper)
[23:21:24] <kbarry> Been thinking about putting a plastic extruder on my machine to use for some kinda of works.
