[00:10:47] <CIA-9> 03Zathras 07BDI build system * 10Babylon Cluster/comps.xml: File changed. New revision:picax.xml
[02:22:53] <a70camaro> anybody home tonight?
[02:23:33] <cradek> nope
[17:42:52] <Alpha1125> Alpha1125 is now known as A-l-p-h-a_
[17:42:56] <paul_c> Evening.
[18:01:06] <jepler> in xemc, clicking the limit override button turns it on. how do you turn it off?
[18:01:26] <A-L-P-H-A> paul_c, afternoon.
[18:50:17] <paul_c> Morning John
[19:23:24] <jmkasunich> Hi Paul
[19:29:52] <paul_c> * paul_c is trying to decide what to add to the next BDI CD
[19:32:38] <jmkasunich> live or 3.xx?
[19:35:32] <paul_c> the BDI-2.xx replacement
[19:37:10] <jmkasunich> will it run on 2.xx era hardware?
[19:39:03] <paul_c> Should do... Might want icewm instead of KDE..
[19:39:59] <jmkasunich> I assume you already have everything needed to to development>?
[19:40:34] <jmkasunich> (CVS, ssh, GTK-devel, etc, etc)
[19:41:23] <paul_c> was going to leave dev tools out
[19:41:58] <paul_c> and use a second CD for them.
[19:42:02] <jmkasunich> why - that makes it impossible for the user to upgrade his EMC (if he can't compile)
[19:42:07] <jmkasunich> oh, OK
[19:43:02] <cradek> jepler: entering "coordinated mode" clears the overrideLimits flag
[19:43:08] <paul_c> Perhaps the only dev packages to be included on the first CD would be a patched kernel source & header.
[19:43:24] <cradek> jepler: I think this means running a program or moving in MDI (but not jogging)
[19:44:11] <jmkasunich> IMO, dev tools should be standard on any distro... but I don't know how the CD space situation looks
[19:44:51] <paul_c> 'pends on the target audience
[19:45:27] <jmkasunich> true enough - but when you say you're leaving them out, do you mean things like make and gcc as well?
[19:45:47] <jmkasunich> cause virtually anyone will sooner or later want to download something and build it
[19:46:43] <cradek> I'm not part of your typical target audience, but I'd trade all of KDE/Gnome for a compiler in a second
[19:46:56] <paul_c> include the GCC toolchain, and some of the dev libs will have to be included.
[19:46:57] <jmkasunich> ;-)
[19:47:11] <cradek> as it stands, I cannot use emc1 on my machine without compiling it
[19:47:25] <cradek> it is broken for any machine without home switches
[19:48:03] <jmkasunich> EMC2 will be even more so - cause it's under continuous development - the version on the CD will become out of date almost immediately
[19:48:17] <jmkasunich> without tools, you can't build a newer version
[19:48:32] <paul_c> apt-get emc
[19:49:03] <jmkasunich> who is gonna keep that package up to date with CVS?
[20:05:14] <paul_c> The farm could generate a new deb as part of it's build :0
[20:06:14] <jmkasunich> not out of the question, I think
[20:06:39] <jmkasunich> right now each branch has a custom build script, but the same script is used by all slots
[20:06:53] <CIA-9> 03Zathras 07BDI build system * 10Babylon Cluster/personal_desktop.py: File changed. New revision:server.py
[20:06:54] <jmkasunich> would need to alter the script on that specific slot
[20:08:10] <jmkasunich> * jmkasunich dissassembles a ballnut
[22:34:55] <paul_c> * paul_c wonders how long it will take to find all the balls ;-/
