Back
[00:07:49] <alex_joni> paul_c: still around?
[00:24:09] <alex_joni> * alex_joni will be back later... trying to hack emc.run right now
[20:37:54] <alex_joni> zwisk: you around?
[22:07:35] <alex_joni> hello paul_C
[22:10:19] <paul_c> Hi Alex
[22:12:30] <alex_joni> did you get a change to take a peek at the make install process?
[22:12:47] <paul_c> Not yet.
[22:13:07] <alex_joni> I got it to work for me.. finally ;)
[22:13:55] <alex_joni> what have you been doing lately? (how's the new live going?)
[22:16:54] <paul_c> looking at the top level Makefile now....
[22:17:28] <paul_c> Don't want to be installing scripts/.runinfo in the modules dir...
[22:18:17] <alex_joni> but it's needed...
[22:18:28] <alex_joni> maybe try to locate it from elsewhere?
[22:18:46] <paul_c> why is it needed ?
[22:20:25] <alex_joni> hmmm... let me check
[22:20:34] <alex_joni> I think realtime needed it..
[22:21:53] <paul_c> .runinfo is only used if the rtai scripts are managing the loading/unloading of modules.
[22:33:23] <alex_joni> so for rtai-3.0 ?
[22:37:27] <paul_c> yes
[22:37:35] <alex_joni> then maybe it should go to /etc/emc2 ?
[22:37:41] <alex_joni> along with rtapi.conf ?
[22:38:56] <paul_c> won't work like that
[22:39:19] <paul_c> * paul_c needs to speak to who ever added that line...
[22:39:32] <alex_joni> * alex_joni thinks of jmk ?
[22:39:56] <paul_c> maybe, maybe not.
[22:40:01] <alex_joni> :P
[22:40:09] <alex_joni> It wasn't me for sure ...
[22:40:47] <alex_joni> * alex_joni wonders if paul_c does tcl?
[22:41:10] <paul_c> A little bit...
[22:41:26] <alex_joni> I added some stuff to tkemc.tcl at the beginning... hope it's ok
[22:42:58] <alex_joni> there is a little problem...
[22:43:11] <alex_joni> I didn't want to alter emc.ini during install
[22:43:26] <alex_joni> so I needed to change the NML_FILE in [EMC] to emc.nml
[22:43:37] <alex_joni> problem is ...
[22:43:58] <alex_joni> emc.ini get's parsed by emc.run but also by other programs (guess you know that better than me)
[22:44:36] <paul_c> emc.ini is the key config file
[22:44:37] <alex_joni> I found the problem to be with milltask (which runs from /usr/local/bin or wherever installed... and doesn't find emc.ini)
[22:44:58] <paul_c> someone tell me what the hell emc.conf is..
[22:44:59] <alex_joni> so I did a cd $EMC2_CONFIG_DIR before running milltask
[22:45:05] <alex_joni> lol
[22:45:22] <alex_joni> it's a file that includes some ENV-vars
[22:45:56] <alex_joni> EMC2_DIR, EMC2_BIN_DIR etc.
[22:46:06] <alex_joni> this file gets sourced by emc.run
[22:46:10] <paul_c> so we have yet another damned config to keep track of
[22:46:16] <alex_joni> :)
[22:46:32] <alex_joni> all in there is generated automatically by ./configure
[22:47:04] <alex_joni> * alex_joni doesn't say it's the best solution... maybe paul_c has a better one...
[22:47:14] <alex_joni> I started using some of the work from zwisk
[22:47:59] <paul_c> Talking of zwisk - You two need to discuss the changes made over the weekend
[22:48:28] <alex_joni> we sure do
[22:48:51] <paul_c> I suspect he might be feeling a little upset at the moment.
[22:48:59] <alex_joni> I'm thinking of writing a description.file of the install process
[22:49:48] <alex_joni> well.. I think I would habe benefited from a discussion with him during the process...
[22:49:54] <alex_joni> but it's still due
[22:52:11] <paul_c> And as far as my opinion on all this PATH stuff is concerned...
[22:54:04] <alex_joni> yes?
[22:54:18] <paul_c> It is turning into a complicated mess.
[22:58:37] <paul_c> I do not think having XXX.config is the answer - And certainly not when there is one each for hal, rtapi, & emc2
[23:06:01] <alex_joni> well... right now the hal.conf is not very used
[23:06:09] <alex_joni> it could be scrapped
[23:06:21] <alex_joni> emc.conf could be added to rtapi.conf
[23:06:30] <alex_joni> but... it's not really rtapi-related
[23:06:57] <alex_joni> and emc.ini is pretty different... to take those values
[23:13:14] <paul_c> I have a hard time accepting that there should be seperate configs (or ini) for no other reason than a name.
[23:16:09] <alex_joni> well... like I said... that was the solution found... I am sure there are better...
[23:18:00] <paul_c> lunch time.
[23:18:02] <alex_joni> and if you (paul_c, the board or whoever) come up with a better one, I'd be glad to try to use that one (i.e. scrap the last version and redo)
[23:24:00] <sxpert> good afternoon guys...
[23:24:20] <sxpert> * sxpert just got himself a brand new jigsaw
[23:24:30] <alex_joni> hello
[23:24:35] <sxpert> (not computer controlled (yet ;D)
[23:24:45] <alex_joni> but that can be added...
[23:24:59] <sxpert> well, works perfectly as it is ;D
[23:25:01] <alex_joni> * alex_joni is right back...
[23:38:52] <alex_joni> * alex_joni is back
[23:46:18] <sxpert> wb
[23:46:42] <sxpert> alex_joni: the 300 eur for the jigsaw were worth it...
[23:47:04] <alex_joni> nice...
[23:47:06] <sxpert> this thing is a dream to work with
[23:47:15] <alex_joni> depends on your intentions...
[23:47:17] <alex_joni> :D
[23:49:37] <sxpert> well, it's stable, clean, has electronic speed control, guides the blade super-straight, almost no vibrations... you name it
[23:51:23] <alex_joni> nice
