[15:00:13] <jepler> Selecting previously unselected package linuxcnc-build-deps.
[15:00:17] <jepler> The following extra packages will be installed:
[15:00:18] <jepler> apache2 ...
[15:00:30] <cradek> ?
[15:00:31] <jepler> ummm how did we arrive at the point that building linuxcnc pulls in a bleeping webserver?
[15:01:07] <archivist> websocket remote thingy ?
[15:01:28] <jepler> archivist: no, we don't have that
[15:01:38] <jepler> machinekit has at least one web interface thingy, but we don't.
[15:02:06] <archivist> wondering if something got fed back
[15:02:13] <jepler> (I'm looking at this build, where I am changing debian/configure -- https://travis-ci.org/jepler/linuxcnc/builds/172007033)
[15:16:55] -!- md-2 has quit [Quit: Leaving...]
[15:32:49] <archivist> buildbot waterfall display
[15:38:19] <jepler> well, it isn't caused by this branch I'm working on, so that's good
[15:50:59] amnesic_away is now known as amnesic
[15:57:41] <cradek> are you sure it's not travis that needs it?
[15:59:29] <jepler> cradek: yes
[15:59:53] <jepler> cradek: that is, I've duplicated it on an ubuntu 12.04 VM of my own
[16:00:00] <cradek> ok
[16:00:02] <jepler> it's being installed when we install linuxcnc-build-deps
[16:00:09] <cradek> let me know if you need any other nonhelp
[16:00:13] <jepler> thanks!
[16:00:17] <cradek> anytime
[16:01:35] <jepler> $ sudo dpkg -i linuxcnc-build-deps_1.0_i386.deb
[16:01:42] <jepler> $ sudo apt-get -f install --no-install-recommends --no-install-suggests
[16:01:46] <jepler> [wants to install apache2]
[16:02:11] <cradek> aptitude why apache2
[16:02:11] <cradek> i w3c-linkchecker Recommends apache2 | httpd-cgi
[16:02:22] <cradek> oh it's a recommends
[16:02:33] <cradek> do you have aptitude why?
[16:02:36] <jepler> but but --no-install-recommends
[16:02:50] <jepler> $ aptitude why apache2
[16:02:50] <jepler> i linuxcnc-build-deps Depends w3c-linkchecker
[16:02:51] <jepler> i A w3c-linkchecker Depends apache2
[16:03:19] <cradek> aptitude why on earth
[16:05:38] <jepler> $ sudo apt-get install --no-install-recommends --no-install-suggests w3c-linkchecker
[16:05:46] <jepler> The following extra packages will be installed:
[16:05:46] <jepler> apache2
[16:06:58] <jepler> ok, so ubuntu (12.04) erroneously has apache2 as a Depends, not a Recommends or Suggests, of w3c-linkchecker
[16:07:23] <cradek> it has an "online mode"
[16:08:48] <jepler> https://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/pkg-perl/packages/w3c-linkchecker.git/commit/debian/control?id=a2fad3951f4b9bfdb6d640fb594e446668eea95b
[16:09:43] <cradek> I guess I forgot that wheezy is newer than ubuntu12
[16:09:47] <jepler> https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=614598
[16:12:07] <jepler> I don't 100% feel like this is explained, because in this case removing apache2 should remove w3c-linkchecker and linuxcnc-build-deps..

[16:16:43] <jepler> $ apt-cache show apache2-mpm-worker | grep Provides | head -1
[16:16:43] <jepler> Provides: apache2, apache2-mpm, httpd, httpd-cgi
[16:16:56] <jepler> ah now it becomes clearer, the dependency is still satisfied by this Provides:
[16:17:14] <cradek> aha
[16:17:19] <cradek> (and weird)

[17:04:58] <tinkerer> apropos arm: is there a source.list entry for arm?
[17:09:46] <tinkerer> and are there any plans building/providing a preempt kernel for arm?
[17:10:49] <seb_kuzminsky> tinkerer: deb http://linuxcnc.org wheezy 2.7-uspace
[17:11:40] <seb_kuzminsky> the buildbot armhf deb archives are listed on the buildbot front page, http://buildbot.linuxcnc.org
[17:12:48] <tinkerer> hey seb, I'm working on the bleeding edge. I had jessie and master in my mind. :)
[17:13:02] <tinkerer> ah ok
[17:13:29] <seb_kuzminsky> there's jessie armhf debs too
[17:13:58] <seb_kuzminsky> master debs are on the buildbot only, not in the release deb archive
[17:15:05] <tinkerer> yes ok thanks
[17:17:25] <seb_kuzminsky> my jessie armhf buildslave is a bit unstable, so it's often a little behind on builds
[17:28:13] -!- skunkworks_ [skunkworks_!~skunkwork@68-115-41-210.static.eucl.wi.charter.com] has joined #linuxcnc-devel
[17:34:28] -!- skorasaurus has quit [Ping timeout: 250 seconds]
[17:39:52] <tinkerer> never mind, but because I build the pkgs by myself I haven't needed the source.list entries.
[17:40:11] <tinkerer> but now I need it for gene.
[17:48:43] <tinkerer> no plan for arm preempt kernel? Or have I missed something?
[17:49:31] -!- skunkworks_ has quit [Ping timeout: 265 seconds]
[17:55:11] <seb_kuzminsky> arm preempt kernel debs would be good for our project, but afaik no one is working on it currently
[17:58:25] <seb_kuzminsky> don't most arm boards need (or at least benefit greatly from) a custom kernel? often with non-mainline vendor patches in it?
[18:00:00] <seb_kuzminsky> i know for the beaglebone, Robert Collins maintains a preempt kernel, that's what i've been using for my linuxcnc work on that platform
[18:01:03] <tinkerer> yes, I think there are not so many developers come into question doing it
[18:06:13] <tinkerer> for the Raspi and machinekit gemi orcullo (https://github.com/kinsamanka) has made some and it's the one I am using. maybe he has the fancy take part of the game.
[18:42:57] <jepler> last time I looked into it, I found that machinekit had some kernel debs in their repository, but I wasn't immediately able to find the corresponding source packages, so I didn't pursue it further. One step on the way to hosting anything at linuxcnc.org would be to have the corresponding source packages so we are confident we're obeying our GPL obligations.
[18:47:38] <tinkerer> Yes, but maybe gemi is willing to provide the source of his kernel
[18:50:30] amnesic is now known as amnesic_away
[18:57:10] <tinkerer> here are only the old ones: http://0ptr.link/raspbian/pool/main/l/linux/
[18:58:20] <jepler> thanks, I don't have time to look at it right now myself. When it comes to shipping packages or whole linux distributions from linuxcnc.org, I just want to emphasize that we need to be confident we have the complete corresponding source for all the binary packages that are not part of the regular upstream distribution
