[02:51:49] <seb_kuzminsky> woo ncam!
[02:53:24] <jepler> I remain unsure about the wisdom of tying the release cycle of these two pieces of software together; and wonder if we're better served by two packages that need not be upgraded in lock-step. I thought I'd once written about this at length to the mailing list but I can't find it now. </drive-by opinion>

[03:57:04] <seb_kuzminsky> jepler: that makes sense
[03:57:47] <seb_kuzminsky> my enthusiasm is mostly to help get ncam into people's hands, but a separate package might do that almost as well
[03:58:04] <seb_kuzminsky> it's integration into our guis where it gets a little trickier

[13:39:35] <jepler> not if we decide on good extension points and go through a deprecation cycle before removing them. I'm pretty sure that the defacto standard ways of adding panels and tabs to axis and touchy have been stable for many major releases.

[14:35:15] <skunkworks_> what is the story of freebsd? why is this exciting?
[14:38:35] <cradek> just a new major release due today
[14:40:20] <seb_kuzminsky> cradek: i should plug in a console and see
[14:40:35] <seb_kuzminsky> oh yeah, i had intended to connect each U3's serial console to the other
[14:41:09] <seb_kuzminsky> i'm always logged in to both and monitoring /sys/devices/virtual/thermal/thermal_zone0/temp, and it's not overheating at least
[14:42:04] <seb_kuzminsky> jepler: one good reason to have ncam in linuxcnc.git is that they/we get packaging and release for free, that's a hurtle for most projects
[14:43:52] <cradek> that's right, and so is jepler about the drawbacks of tying them together
[14:44:17] <seb_kuzminsky> yeah
[14:44:30] <cradek> one benefit of packaging them together is it's mostly done; one drawback about separately is it's not done
[14:44:54] <seb_kuzminsky> i should fork off a clone to set up a launchpad-like builder for all our neighboring projects
[14:45:00] <seb_kuzminsky> ncam, f-engrave, pycam, etc
[14:45:13] <archivist> together it could be a game changer in more users
[14:45:54] <cradek> I agree with pretty much everything dewey said in his mail
[14:46:09] -!- jellevictoor has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds]
[14:55:48] <skunkworks_> I just built the ncam repository that dewey pushed. Only played with it lightly
[14:55:51] <skunkworks_> looks cool
[15:08:48] <seb_kuzminsky> i played with an older version (back when it was called Features), i liked it, it made parts, and it was pretty easy to hack on
[15:12:30] <JT-Shop> looks cool
