[00:32:01] <jepler> NOTE: The following commands will require root user permissions. You might want to run sudo su - first.
[00:32:04] <jepler> <
[00:32:35] <jepler> why in the world would you "sudo su -"? "sudo -s" / "sudo -i" give you a root shell / root login shell.
[00:32:51] <jepler> I see this "sudo su -" advice popping up more and more places and I can't fathom the motivation
[00:33:15] <jepler> (that is from a rando web page, not linuxcnc documentation)

[15:30:23] <skunkworks> pcw_home: we should power the 7i48 separaetely? (and the7i69)
[15:31:39] <skunkworks> better question - can the 7i48 run on the same supply as the 7i80?
[15:31:54] <skunkworks> I assume so... (stupid question)
[15:32:12] -!- awallin has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
[15:34:15] <pcw_home> Yeah I would power the 7I80 and 7I48 from the same 5V supply (and power the external 7I48 5V connector,
[15:34:16] <pcw_home> cable power is often not good for multiple older (so higher power) encoders
[15:34:59] <pcw_home> The 7I69 will run fine on cable (CAT5E/6) power
[15:36:09] <pcw_home> its less than 150 ma or so (and the CAT5 power uses doubled 5V and GND)
[15:37:55] <skunkworks> pcw_home: the 7i69 will handle 2 opto24 boards running off it (powered from the cat 5 cable)

[20:30:18] <jepler> too bad all the images are dead .. these reprappers ponder using 35mm film with sprocket holes for linear motion. crazy. http://forums.reprap.org/read.php?4,35100
[20:35:45] <jepler> > some RepRap researchers propose a "polar" robot such that the tangential motor moves things in a helix using some screw thread. so that moving it +360 degrees makes it end up in almost precisely the original location, except the position is higher up 1 screw thread increment (Z). Then we don't need a separate Z motor.
