[13:48:11] <pcw_home> but the unity has a analog VFD output...
[13:49:43] <pcw_home> in any case, if you want pin 14 to be a GPIO output, disable the PWM (num_pwmgens=0)
[13:49:44] <pcw_home> and set the pin to output mode

[16:09:37] <pcw_home> trying to get gantry homing working via the new gantry comp
[16:12:06] <jthornton> neat
[16:12:19] <jthornton> I need to make a gantry thing so I can try it
[16:13:38] -!- Encapsulate has quit [Ping timeout: 250 seconds]
[16:13:57] <pcw_home> I suggested the gantry comp so I feel a bit obligated to help
[16:14:28] <jthornton> I know that feeling well
[16:14:49] <jthornton> you doing it with a real gantry or vismachine?
[16:15:33] -!- Nick001 has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]

[16:17:12] -!- pandeiro has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
[16:17:49] <pcw_home> basically the gantry comp splits a position command and feedback to 2 (or more)
[16:17:50] <pcw_home> joints so it can insert a offset for homing on multiple switches
[16:19:54] <pcw_home> I have some ideas for an improved hm2 stepgen
[16:19:56] <pcw_home> 1. is incorporate the 25% overhead in the comp so you just set the machine limit
[16:19:57] <pcw_home> and the driver uses that limit and sets the hardware limit 25% faster
[16:20:16] <pcw_home> (so the hardware limit is hidden)
[16:20:20] <jthornton> that would be cool
[16:20:53] <pcw_home> and it obeys the machine limit if you feed it a step command

[18:45:00] <kwallace> The Beyond Logic text seems to indicate that it is possible to use pin 14 as an input by forcing the pin voltage and taking some hardware precautions, but my understanding is that the LinuxCNC Parport driver doesn't utilize this -- although I haven't kept up with updates for quite a while. I have only used the Parport driver as "out" or "in" on the data bits as shown, and I know nothing about the "x" mode. I may need to update my mushware.

[21:27:25] <SWPLinux> jepler or cradek: if you're around, and can talk about the DNS thing, please let me know.
[21:27:47] <cradek> I'll try
[21:27:54] <SWPLinux> hi cradek
[21:27:57] <cradek> hey
[21:27:58] <cradek> is it hard?
[21:28:11] <SWPLinux> well, it wouldn't be if I could just edit a text file
[21:28:15] <cradek> argh.
[21:28:30] <SWPLinux> but the web form doesn't make it easier
[21:28:36] <cradek> yeah I bet not
[21:29:42] <SWPLinux> the MX records are on a different form (for email, not DNS), and I'm not quite sure if I can get all the entries in there
[21:29:47] <SWPLinux> or in the right order ...

[21:40:59] <cradek> heh
[21:43:12] <SWPLinux> I've been looking for a new laptop lately, but I'm sad that I can't find anything that has more than one of the attributes: faster, lighter, longer battery life, under $2000.
[21:43:38] <SWPLinux> as compared to the 4.5-year old one I have now
[21:44:41] <cradek> heh don't look at me. 4.5 years sounds like brand new.
[21:44:49] <SWPLinux> oh yeah :)
[21:45:44] <cradek> jepler got tired of that and just bought a new desktop
[21:45:57] <cradek> a lot more machine (and screen) for the money
[21:46:08] <SWPLinux> I'm looking for one of those too, but they're hard to carry and use on airplanes
[21:46:35] <cradek> yeah, airplanes are bad places to work
[21:46:37] <SWPLinux> I've been really surprised by the low cost of refurbished HP workstations on NewEgg (and elsewhere)
[21:46:54] <SWPLinux> like $1000 for a Xeon 6-core with 32G RAM
[21:47:02] <cradek> wow
