[01:48:00] <jepler> skunkworks: yeah. using an adapted version of tcp.nml in tests/ I used both tklinuxcnc and axis over the network to home, jog, and mdi. but the text of error messages seems to get lost by axis, and of course you have the age-old problem of opening files when the filesystems "here" and "there" don't agree with each other.
[01:48:08] <jepler> also I failed to touch off in axis for some reason
[01:48:32] <jepler> so it's still not perfect .. but I believe the basics are working again at the level they did in 2.6 plus reliable command reception
[01:49:06] <jepler> oh and this is all 64-bit to 64-bit, no idea about 64 to 32

[11:57:41] <jepler> when *not* running a graphics-intensive game at the same time, overnight latency was much better, just 117us. I'll keep it, it'll be excellent for testing/developing mesa drivers.
[12:01:45] <jepler> .. now doing a run with isolcpus=
[12:13:01] <skunkworks> does that work with rt_preemp?
[12:13:18] <skunkworks> I have not played with that
[12:13:27] <jepler> yes, it is accepted on the kernel commandline anyway
[12:13:37] <jepler> and it changes the default affinity of all userspace tasks to exclude that CPU
[12:13:45] <jepler> so on my system with 8 threads, I used isolcpus=7
[12:13:53] <jepler> and now I'm not at the console so I can't monitor the results
[12:14:43] <skunkworks> neat - I will have to try that. Although most systems that I have played with rt_preempt have been <100us so I have not tweeked them
[12:15:03] <skunkworks> or seconds and I didn't even try to fix them ;)

[13:21:43] <skunkworks> Hmm - I like the new layout of the docs but now I cannot link directly to say 'user interfaces'
[13:21:48] <skunkworks> or is there a way?
[13:22:14] <JT-Shop> you should be able to... hmm
[13:22:56] <JT-Shop> oh, no you can't link to that
[13:23:29] <JT-Shop> hmmm
[13:26:22] <jepler> skunkworks: you mean that on http://linuxcnc.org/docs/html/ you can't link directly to the 'user interfaces' heading?
[13:26:31] <skunkworks> yes
[13:27:03] <jepler> http://linuxcnc.org/docs/html/#sec3 only works if yo have already expanded everything
[13:27:36] <skunkworks> right
[13:32:28] <archivist> breaking links into out docs is a real pain
[13:33:39] -!- Not-Renny has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
[13:34:10] <jthornton> ??
[13:38:20] <archivist> people have to update incoming links after somebody has broken something
[13:38:33] <archivist> like http://wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?action=browse&diff=1&id=Released_2.7.X
[13:40:26] <archivist> the point I was making the other day was not that the wiki was wrong but that the destination had disappeared

[13:43:14] <jthornton> it's impossible to know where every link is on the web much less the wiki :(

[15:08:48] <skunkworks> (because it was one of the supported cards)
[15:09:25] <skunkworks> I could not tell you if I tried it with rt_preempt

[18:41:22] <seb_kuzminsky> jepler: 2.7 runs on lucid and newer, lucid has rtai 3.8.1, your commit message says all supported rtai versions report latency spikes by themselves
[18:41:38] <seb_kuzminsky> and of course it doesnt matter for rt-preempt, since the code you removed only runs in kernel space
[18:41:56] <seb_kuzminsky> so it looks fine for 2.7, and a nice cleanup, thanks
[18:43:29] <jepler> seb_kuzminsky: OK will push to 2.7. thanks for your review.
