[12:07:59] <jsskangas_> hello anyone has experience of comedi in linuxcnc
[12:08:38] <jsskangas_> im upgading my mill ui and using lot of buttons and some potentiometers
[12:08:58] <jsskangas_> I got PCI1710 advantech card
[12:09:57] <jsskangas_> My plan is to use this card to read UI buttons, I use Linuxcnc 2.5.0 and ubuntu 10.04
[12:10:27] -!- JesusAlos has quit [Quit: JesusAlos]
[12:10:45] <archivist> we had one user use the two in combination
[12:11:04] <jsskangas_> I installed comedilib and tested with small program that card is ok and running
[12:11:13] <jsskangas_> This far I have got now
[12:11:15] <archivist> must be a few years ago now
[12:11:41] <jsskangas_> next Im writing a simple driver for hal for this PCI1710 card
[12:11:56] <jsskangas_> but there I hit the wall...
[12:13:05] <archivist> should it really be a hal comp from comedi rather than the card
[12:13:21] <jsskangas_> comedilib.h is not found so I copied it to \usr\include\linuxcnc
[12:14:56] <jsskangas_> archivist: ?
[12:15:00] <jsskangas_> for last one
[12:15:37] <jsskangas_> Do you mean that not compile HAL component from it?
[12:15:49] <jsskangas_> for it
[12:16:03] <archivist> yes compile a hal comp
[12:16:41] <jsskangas_> yes I did, but first it gave error that comedilib.h not found
[12:16:56] <jsskangas_> then i copied it to \usr\include\linuxcnc
[12:17:23] <jsskangas_> used comp again, then it gave lot of errors that:
[12:17:52] <jsskangas_> stdio.h not found ect
[12:18:32] <jsskangas_> gcc works well and find those but why HAL comp does not
[12:18:33] <jsskangas_> ?
[12:19:38] <jsskangas_> any idea

[12:20:32] <archivist> I am not sure you are doing the right thing, halcomp is a special for hal comp files not standard c
[12:21:04] <archivist> you probably need to understand how it works a bit better to use it
[12:22:06] <jsskangas_> yes could you help?
[12:22:53] <jsskangas_> I really dont know linux at all
[12:23:11] <jsskangas_> so its pit hard for me to learn
[12:23:50] <jsskangas_> I have done coding on linux and arm prosessors but pure C
[12:26:27] <archivist> search the mail archives see what others were doing
[12:29:55] <jsskangas_> I did not find anything related to HAL
[12:30:18] <jsskangas_> I found some installation stuff
[12:30:30] <jsskangas_> but nothing related to HAL
[12:30:35] <archivist> there is stuff related to comedi
[12:30:49] <jsskangas_> OK, do you have a link
[12:30:50] <archivist> follow that and read what they did
[12:31:20] <archivist> I use my gmail account to view mail archives
[12:33:35] <jsskangas_> any link to those mail archives?
[12:35:16] <archivist> or a plain google search finds this
http://wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?Debian_Etch_Compile_RTAI#Comedi_support_for_RTAI
[12:38:14] <jsskangas_> ok
[12:38:44] <jsskangas_> comedi drivers are installed and running
[12:39:12] <jsskangas_> Wehen compiling with gcc i can control and read inputs on card

[20:04:11] <jsskangas_> :)
[20:05:29] <jsskangas_> jepler: could I just compile a new comp command
[20:05:30] <jsskangas_> ?
[20:05:37] <jsskangas_> nothing else
[20:07:25] <jepler> no idea, I've never tried it.
[20:09:11] <jepler> the line you said you added also was missing a ";" at the end
[20:09:19] <jsskangas> My hardware limits me to 10.04
[20:09:22] <jsskangas> Yep
[20:09:49] <cradek> that does not limit you to 2.5 and certainly not 2.5.0
[20:09:55] <jsskangas> I tryed with and without ;
[20:09:58] <jepler> looking at the git history, extra_link_args has been in there a long time but was only tested and documented recently. I can't find where we fixed it as a bug though
[20:10:14] <jepler> *shrug* I can't say much about what 2.5.x did or did not do, it's a long time ago.
[20:11:31] <jsskangas> So you think that i should upfate to 2.6 or 2.7?
