[16:10:20] <mozmck> I do think it might be better if Q defaulted to either 0 or .001
[16:11:21] <cradek> rob didn't want to remove the ncd because the new tp still benefits from it
[16:11:22] <mozmck> It was not real clear reading the documentation what it would do. It looked at first like not specifying Q would disable NCD
[16:12:12] <cradek> I wonder if it's a doc bug or a have-sensible-defaults bug
[16:12:16] <mozmck> I will probably leave it at .001 for our stuff.
[16:12:36] <cradek> I bet that almost always just disables it
[16:12:40] <mozmck> I don't know! If you are setting P pretty low, then it probably doesn't matter.

[16:13:51] <jepler> NCD is not about length. NCD can turn 2 100-inch moves into 1 ~200-inch move.

[19:07:39] <seb_kuzminsky> cool

[20:21:01] <skunksleep> I have an Emco Compact 5 PC lathe. It runs fine otherwise, but the steppers on both axes slow way down after the machine has been on for some time. I'm not sure whether the problem is the stepper motors themselves or something else.

[20:24:05] <skunksleep> I wasn't there...
[20:24:38] <jepler> the digit keys alone set the feed override percentage, except that when in machine on mode, some of them select an axis by number (` = 0 = X, 1 = Y, etc)

[22:25:46] <andypugh> I have now spent two complete evenings trying (and failing) to install any version of Linux at all on my new PC. If I can’t do it, then there really isn’t much point continuing the LinuxCNC project. We rely on hobbyists and machinists being able to install LinuxCNC.
[22:27:29] <cradek> I didn't know it was that bad
[22:27:55] <JT-Shop> wow
[22:29:39] <micges> andypugh: some exotic hardware?
[22:31:03] <andypugh> Ubuntu 12.04 stock live CD (via startup disk creator) boots and finishes the install process, but the system end up in a reboot loop on restart. Debian stock images fail at the SYSLINUX prompt when done with that tool (yes, I was deperate). Debian stock images with DD end up in a rebbot loop at the USB-boot stage, not getting to an installer. I suppose I should try the LinuxCNC binary ISO again, now that I have the
[22:31:04] <andypugh> machine trying to boot from USB, but I am getting discouraged.
[22:32:44] <andypugh> Is it worth trying an AMD64 installer? I assume this is a 64-bit machine.
