[02:57:49] <mozmck> DEFAULT_LINEAR_VELOCITY sets the default jog speed, but it is in units per second. My problem is that my X and Y are set at 1000 IPM max, and I want about 200 IPM default, but my Z only does about 150 IPM max, so it goes full speed when jogging.
[02:58:46] <mozmck> If I could set the default jog speed in a percentage of max, then the Z could jog slowly by default and full speed with the shift key.
[03:05:04] <Tom_itx> what does setting MAX_VELOCITY in the axis section do?
[03:05:29] <mozmck> Sets the max velocity of that axis.
[03:06:17] <mozmck> MAX_LINEAR_VELOCITY set the maximum linear jog velocity, which can be less than the axis max vel.
[03:07:45] <Tom_itx> would be nice if those could be set on a per axis basis
[03:08:10] -!- Praesmeodymium has quit [Quit: KVIrc 4.2.0 Equilibrium http://www.kvirc.net/]
[03:08:17] <mozmck> The jog speed?
[03:08:33] <Tom_itx> the first 3 i mentioned
[03:08:44] <Tom_itx> default linear velocity etc
[03:09:05] <mozmck> Yes, or a percentage would work fine too.
[03:09:36] <Tom_itx> just for jogging?
[03:09:42] <mozmck> yes
[03:09:51] <Tom_itx> otherwise you could put it thru a scale comp
[03:10:04] <mozmck> Those settings are for Axis, and I'm working on a custom GUI, so I may implement something like that.
[03:10:20] <mozmck> put the jog speed through a scale comp?
[03:10:35] <Tom_itx> but it would also limit it overall so that may not work
[03:10:53] <mozmck> oh, yes, probably not.
[03:10:56] <cradek> do you mean keyboard jogging?
[03:11:00] <mozmck> yes.
[03:11:17] <Tom_itx> so one axis would move slower than the others
[03:11:18] <cradek> the gui sets the speed each time you press a keyboard jog key. you could have Z separate if you want, no problem
[03:11:33] <cradek> separate slider or whatever
[03:11:46] <mozmck> If there is not a built in way to do it, I bet I can write some code for my gui to do it.
[03:12:00] <cradek> turn on TASK ISSUE debug and jog around and you can see what messages are issued
[03:12:16] <mozmck> thanks, I'll look into that.
[03:12:17] <cradek> yeah, jog speed is totally a gui problem
[03:12:29] <mozmck> ok, that makes sense.
[03:12:42] <Tom_itx> set up a slider for each axis maybe
[03:14:17] <mozmck> naw, a single percentage slider will work fine.
[03:14:56] <mozmck> 20% of 1000 is 200 IPM, and 20% of 150 is 15 IPM which are probably both about right for a slowish jog.
[03:15:37] <mozmck> I guess if I really needed to I could make the Z separate, but mach does it that way so I know it works ok ;)
[03:18:31] <cradek> tinkerer: ooh! tomorrow!

[16:07:53] <cradek> wonder if I should add that to the cd next time around
[16:08:06] <cradek> I thought everything needed was already on it, but guess not

[16:19:35] <seb_kuzminsky> glade-gtk2 isn't a build-dependency, it's a dependency for editing our glade files, as i understand it
[16:19:53] <jthornton> seems to only be valid in Z view
[16:19:56] <seb_kuzminsky> view/grid shows a grid on some of my machines, in some view-angle orientations
[16:20:14] <jthornton> works in 2.7
[16:20:28] <cradek> weird
[16:21:48] <cradek> tinkerer: still, Failed to communicate with pluto-servo board after programming firmware.
[16:21:51] <jthornton> well I should restate that is doesn't show in perspective view or rotate view
[16:22:37] <cradek> oh wait, it IS there in the Z view, it's just invisible on my monitor in the daylight
[16:22:40] <cradek> duuuh
[16:26:49] <jthornton> hey seb_kuzminsky I'm working on combining the user + integrator + hal manuals to avoid duplication of chapters and have unlimited links possible instead of "see the x manual for more info"
[16:27:09] <jthornton> I made a branch and as soon as I get it shook out I'll push it for review

[16:55:16] <kwallace2> I'm trying to get my head around using .dxf with LinuxCNC. In the past, I've used LibreCAD/QCAD to draw tool paths or shapes, then open the .dxf file in dxf2gcode and set the path direction or other minor tweaks and create a .ngc file. I open the .ngc file in gEdit, fix all the code I don't like, then open it in LinuxCNC, check and repeat if needed. My goal is to add a .dxf feature to a conversational screen. Are there any examples I can refe

[17:07:00] <jthornton> I have examples of how to remove a branch but not how to push one, is it git push origin 2.7_Docs:2.7 --dry-run to test?
[17:07:56] <jthornton> john@cave:~/emc-dev/src$ git push origin 2.7_Docs:2.7 --dry-run
[17:07:57] <jthornton> To ssh://jthornton@git.linuxcnc.org/git/emc2.git
[17:07:57] <jthornton> fde52dc..08a96d0 2.7_Docs -> 2.7
[17:08:03] <jthornton> is that correct?
[17:10:30] <jthornton> fde52dc is a merge so that don't sound right to me
[17:10:56] <jthornton> oh that was Norberts merge so I guess it is from there
[17:12:24] <cradek> nope
[17:12:34] <cradek> git push origin newbranchname
[17:12:54] <jthornton> git push 2.7 2.7_Docs
[17:13:00] <cradek> no
[17:13:05] <cradek> git push origin 2.7_Docs
[17:13:10] <jthornton> thanks
[17:13:16] <cradek> don't mess with the existing 2.7
[17:13:30] <jthornton> that's what I'm trying to not do
[17:13:33] <cradek> :-)
[17:13:54] <cradek> your command with the : would have pushed 2.7_Docs as 2.7
[17:14:16] <cradek> when you git push origin 2.7_Docs --dry-run you should see it creates a branch
[17:14:26] <jthornton> this looks correct to me now:
[17:14:27] <jthornton> john@cave:~/emc-dev/src$ git push origin 2.7_Docs --dry-run
[17:14:28] <jthornton> To ssh://jthornton@git.linuxcnc.org/git/emc2.git
[17:14:28] <jthornton> * [new branch] 2.7_Docs -> 2.7_Docs
[17:14:34] <cradek> yep!
[17:14:40] <jthornton> awesome
[17:14:41] <cradek> thanks for asking :-)

[19:57:31] <cradek> I think we should remove unmaintained GUIs from the docs. Specifically that means TkLinuxCNC, mini, keystick.
[19:57:44] <cradek> jthornton: I like your changes
[19:58:38] <JT-Shop> thanks
[19:59:03] <JT-Shop> is mini and keystick useful to some?
[19:59:40] <JT-Shop> well keystick maybe
[20:00:12] <cradek> I think it is a mistake for people to choose them, because they are unmaintained. by unmaintained I mean they don't allow you to use features of linuxcnc that are newer than they are
[20:00:34] <cradek> for example they don't support UVW axes or rapid override
[20:01:11] <cradek> and I have little confidence in them actually working right for the things they do support
[20:01:34] <JT-Shop> I agree with mini and tk but if you need a non graphical gui for testing maybe keystick fills that
[20:01:55] <cradek> notice I'm not proposing we remove the code
[20:02:21] <cradek> I think it's at best noise in the docs, and at worst giving the impression that things are supported when they're not
[20:02:22] <JT-Shop> right, just remove them from the docs
[20:02:30] <JT-Shop> I agree
[20:02:51] <cradek> this isn't really related to the 2.7_Docs changes
