[02:53:24] -!- piranha32 [piranha32!~jacek@pool-173-66-211-100.washdc.fios.verizon.net] has joined #linuxcnc-devel
[02:53:55] <piranha32> hi
[02:54:51] <cradek> I can't believe people want to use machines that can't run X. I used to run X on my 386-33.
[02:55:00] <cradek> I don't understand this new trend
[02:59:47] <piranha32> anybowy works with linuxcnc on beaglebone?
[02:59:52] <piranha32> anybody
[03:00:42] <cradek> piranha32: go ahead and ask your real question
[03:01:41] <piranha32> I need to recompile kernel, but I have never worked with xenomai. Is there a howto specific for machinekit?
[03:10:19] -!- malcom2073 has quit [Quit: http://quassel-irc.org - Chat comfortably. Anywhere.]
[03:26:58] <CaptHindsight> cradek: I don't get it either. Of all the ARM boards why the one with the GPU that isn't useful for a UI?
[03:30:55] <memleak> The Xorg server itself can run on anything 32-bit whether ARM, x86, PPC as long as it has a video output connector.
[03:31:51] -!- mozmck has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
[03:33:00] <atom1> I found something a bit odd testing the circular blend code so i tried it again with master and found the same thing: In the MDI window if i enter a tool change ie: 'T1 M6 G43 H1' nothing happens and i see no activity in halconfig related to toolchange however if i run a gcode file the manual tool change dialog box pops up and a tool change occurs.
[03:33:20] -!- mozmck [mozmck!~moses@client-67.210.159.209.dfwtx.partnershipbroadband.com] has joined #linuxcnc-devel
[03:34:29] <atom1> running my configs from 2.5.3
[03:35:00] <cradek> atom1: what branch are you testing?
[03:35:17] <atom1> i just pulled master and tested it
[03:35:34] <atom1> https://github.com/robEllenberg/linuxcnc-mirror.git
[03:35:41] <atom1> was the blend code i was testing
[03:36:10] -!- PetefromTn has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
[03:36:25] <cradek> rellenberg doesn't hang out here - you'll have to ask on the emc-developers list
[03:36:27] <atom1> i'm recompiling it to try again just in case something got muffed up
[03:36:57] <atom1> master acted the same way
[03:37:39] <cradek> master of what repo?
[03:37:59] <atom1> you'll have to spell it out for me, i'm quite new to this
[03:38:05] <atom1> i'm running 10.04
[03:38:12] <skunkworks> atom show the git command you used to pull master
[03:38:22] <skunkworks> I am pretty sure it is master on linuxcnc.org
[03:38:42] <cradek> well he just said it was something from someone's github
[03:38:44] <atom1> git clone git://git.linuxcnc.org/git/linuxcnc.git mydirectory
[03:39:14] <atom1> i ran 2 separate tests
[03:39:15] <skunkworks> he tested roberts branch - found the issue and then tried it in master.. same issue
[03:39:16] <atom1> same results
[03:39:30] <cradek> oh ok
[03:40:13] <atom1> i noticed robert's ver still had the original hal_manualtoolchange code
[03:40:52] <atom1> ok i just updated his and it has the current ver now
[03:41:09] <atom1> the only difference is the addition of a physical button
[03:41:21] <atom1> along with the axis dialog
[03:43:06] -!- somenewguy_chips has quit [Quit: WeeChat 0.4.2]
[03:43:33] <cradek> I remember seeing an addition to hal_manualtoolchange recently
[03:43:39] <cradek> I'm building master to try it
[03:43:49] <atom1> yeah dgarr added it i believe
[03:45:23] -!- AR__ has quit [Ping timeout: 252 seconds]
[03:45:51] <atom1> another odd thing i just noticed that repeated itself is after homing, i select the x axis and press the '-' jog button and it seems to stick a while
[03:46:04] <atom1> it keeps jogging upon release for a second or so
[03:46:10] <atom1> only does it once
[03:47:10] <cradek> manualtoolchange seems to work to me
[03:47:23] <cradek> can you explain again what you do, then what you see, then how that is different from what you expect to see
[03:47:23] <atom1> NML_INTERP_LIST::append(nml_msg_ptr{size=12,type=EMC_TASK_PLAN_SYNCH}) : list_size=6, line_number=4
[03:47:23] <atom1> Issuing EMC_TOOL_PREPARE -- (+1104,+20, +0, +15,)
[03:47:23] <atom1> Issuing EMC_TASK_PLAN_PAUSE -- (+510,+12,+100005,)
[03:47:39] <atom1> was the last 3 lines of the terminal when the toolchange failed
[03:48:12] <atom1> in the MDI window, no tool changes
[03:48:32] <atom1> if i run a file, the regular tool change line will call the dialog box in axis normally
[03:48:55] <cradek> please describe what you see when "toolchange failed" and "no tool changes"
[03:49:37] <atom1> i enter T1 M6 G43 H1 in the dialog
[03:49:47] <atom1> the top bar pause button depresses
[03:49:51] <atom1> that's about it
[03:49:55] <atom1> no tool change occurs
[03:50:18] <cradek> what config are you running? having pause go in is very surprising
[03:50:33] <atom1> i can post it if you like
[03:50:47] <atom1> it's my sherline config from 2.5.3
[03:50:48] <cradek> instead, could you try testing with sim/axis
[03:50:57] <cradek> from master
[03:51:53] <atom1> how do you get it out of estop?
[03:52:13] <cradek> f1 f2
[03:52:51] <cradek> hal_manualtoolchange in master's sim/axis works as expected for me
[03:53:07] <atom1> yes
[03:53:11] <atom1> i agree with that
[03:53:31] <cradek> ok, so it's something special about your config
[03:53:38] <atom1> it does something completely different with my working config from 2.5.3
[03:54:18] <cradek> I do not know whether 2.5 configs are supposed to work unchanged in master
[03:54:30] <seb_kuzminsky> they should work unchanged
[03:54:32] <atom1> well, i just thought i'd mention it...
[03:54:47] -!- terabyte- has quit [Quit: terabyte-]
[03:55:01] <seb_kuzminsky> atom1: does this config work in 2.5.3 and fail in master?
[03:55:07] <atom1> yes
[03:55:16] <atom1> that's what was surprising to me
[03:55:19] <seb_kuzminsky> hmm...
[03:55:21] <cradek> ok, let's see it...
[03:55:29] <atom1> i'll post it somewhere
[03:55:42] <cradek> seb_kuzminsky: I am not nearly as sure as you are :-)
[03:55:55] <seb_kuzminsky> heh
[03:56:19] <seb_kuzminsky> well at least the config for *my* machine works equally well on 2.5 and master ;-)
[03:56:42] <seb_kuzminsky> hal_manualtoolchange changed recently, can you try it before the change?
[03:56:58] <cradek> h_m works for me in master's sim/axis
[03:57:09] <cradek> well for both of us
[03:58:22] <atom1> http://tom-itx.dyndns.org:81/~webpage/cnc/configs/sherline/
[03:58:31] <atom1> i just uploaded those from this run
[03:58:41] <seb_kuzminsky> dewey's change to h_m doesn't look wrong...
[03:58:55] <seb_kuzminsky> atom1: looking...
[03:59:05] <atom1> no that change works very nice in 2.5.3
[03:59:09] <skunkworks> atom1 made the comment that the circular blend branch (a little older than master) has the previous version of the manual tool change - the both acted the same (didn;t work as expected)
[03:59:11] -!- fatpandas has quit [Quit: leaving]
[03:59:18] <skunkworks> iirc
[03:59:26] <atom1> skunkworks, it has the new version now
[03:59:35] <atom1> he must have updated something recently
[03:59:39] <skunkworks> ah
[03:59:57] <atom1> i tried it with the old and new h_m
[04:00:02] <cradek> your unexpected pause message points to a problem with this very complicated pause button/toggle2nist/halui stuff
[04:00:17] <cradek> maybe you can narrow it down based on that clue
[04:01:08] <atom1> ok
[04:02:30] <atom1> i'll save it for another day
[04:02:55] <cradek> perhaps just unlink halui.program.pause
[04:03:00] <cradek> then see if you can change tools
[04:05:46] <atom1> ok, time to rest on it for now
[04:05:47] <atom1> thanks
[04:06:10] -!- atom1 has quit [Quit: Leaving]
[04:06:15] <cradek> sigh
[04:06:53] <Tom_itx> i got a long day tomorrow or i'd stay up and try it
[04:06:54] <Tom_itx> sry

[12:04:19] <memleak> jepler, you've suggested the idea of having a test condition for whether if -ffast-math is needed or not, how do you suggest i start writing such a ./configure test for it?
[12:05:01] <memleak> and even with -ffast-math i get math related warnings after it compiles, such as sqrt asin acos invalid symbols in models

[13:01:08] <jepler> memleak: for the symbols thing, we should follow linux Documentation/kbuild/modules.txt point 6.3 KBUILD_EXTRA_SYMBOLS, assuming that such a symbol file is packaged by rtai
[13:05:33] -!- GuShH_ has quit [Ping timeout: 245 seconds]
[13:06:43] <jepler> memleak: anyway, the configure script would need to create a temporary directory (mkdtemp) with a Makefile with obm-m += foo.o and foo.c containing whatever code snippet you need to know if it compiles
[13:07:07] <jepler> memleak: then you'd run the kernel build process in that directory and use the exit value to determine whether to append something to the appropriate variable (EXTRA_CFLAGS?)

[22:28:39] <memleak> the load time errors are only occurring though I think because of the way I "fixed" the compiling errors. Not much of a linuxcnc developer.

[22:37:18] <jepler> memleak: the reason we started tinkering with the cflags is because whatever we were getting from rtai didn't work

[22:37:44] <jepler> memleak: and everybody's experience is different .. "I need -ffast-math" "I don't" "I need -msss3" "it crashes with -msse3"
[22:43:10] <jepler> rather than going upstream to rtai and saying "look, we found that your cflags were wrong" we just hacked around it
[22:43:11] -!- ingsoc has quit [Quit: Leaving.]
[22:43:49] <memleak> well instead of hacking around it, tell me what the correct fix should be for RTAI and i'll push it in
[22:43:58] <jepler> I have no clue what the right fix is
[22:44:04] <jepler> smart person needed
[22:44:12] <memleak> xD
[22:46:10] <jepler> from the variety of behaviors, it seems like the right answer depends on CPU architecture, kernel version, compiler version, rtai version, and probably phase of the moon
[22:50:23] <memleak> well that makes things a bit difficult
