[00:20:31] <cmorley1> kwallace1: Gscreen uses hal_gremlin which is a class of gremlin, which is a GTK version of AXIS's plot. I mentioned Gscreen because you were asking if anyone used it. I am looking forward to your changes. If you change alot of stuff you might want to check Gscreen to see if it broke anything with HAL_gremlin

[00:41:19] <kwallace> I looked at hal_gremlin which imports gremlin so I see the link there, I just didn't see the link to gscreen.py. I seem to recall there is a script in gscreen that looks at the xml in the glade files and creates the links, but my mind is mush right now. It seems the more I work on this, the worse I make it. I've reverted to last weeks version and given up. The last version works well enough as is, I thought I could make it better.

[14:15:01] <seb_kuzminsky> mhaberler: the xenomai vm is ready, but i haven't told the buildmaster about it yet
[14:15:25] <seb_kuzminsky> i wanted to figure out the unified build system with zultron and you first, and we did that
[14:15:30] <mhaberler> about when could that be done? and what about rtpreempt
[14:15:59] <seb_kuzminsky> next i need to implement the rtos autodetect we talked about in 2.5 and merge it into master
[14:16:26] <mhaberler> why do you need that in 2.5?
[14:16:50] <seb_kuzminsky> but before that can happen, i need to merge the 2.5 mdi queue fix into master, and that's going to require a whole new debugging effort, because master's mdi queueing is broken in a different way than 2.5's was
[14:17:12] -!- cncinator has quit [Ping timeout: 258 seconds]
[14:17:12] <seb_kuzminsky> we need it in 2.5 so that one build script can build all branches (this is what we decided back when we talked about it)
[14:17:28] <jepler> I have another question to interject: with the proposed configure-time changes, does this mean we could contemplate building linuxcnc and linuxcnc-sim from a single debian source package? that would be excellent.
[14:17:47] <seb_kuzminsky> that would be excellent
[14:18:15] <seb_kuzminsky> currently the debian control files change at debian/configure time, and the debian/rules gets different args for src/configure (iirc)
[14:18:19] <cradek> sounds excellent
[14:18:22] <seb_kuzminsky> so that would have to change too
[14:18:47] <seb_kuzminsky> i haven't thought too much about packaging yet, but i had assumed we'd have (cough) one source package per binary package
[14:19:10] <seb_kuzminsky> i got to go pack for my trip, i'll be around, on and off, for the next week
[14:20:53] <cradek> anything I can do to help with the mdi fix? I'm nervous when we can't do that merge-up
[14:24:56] <seb_kuzminsky> i'm nervous about the non-mergable state of 2.5/master too
[14:25:24] <seb_kuzminsky> the next thing that needs to happen is the first un-merged commit in 2.5 (which is the mdi queue test) needs to be merged to master
[14:25:28] <seb_kuzminsky> the test will fail
[14:25:34] <seb_kuzminsky> it needs to be debugged
[14:26:07] <seb_kuzminsky> then the mdi queue fixes in 2.5 need to get merged into master with that merge flag that says "leave the files the way they are in master"
[14:26:45] <seb_kuzminsky> then the rest of the 2.5 commits get merged the normal way
[14:26:57] <seb_kuzminsky> i've merged the commit in a local branch and started debugging it
[14:27:13] <seb_kuzminsky> i think i'm probably the right guy to do that, since my head's full of mdi queueing stuff right now anyway
[14:27:29] <seb_kuzminsky> i'll try to do this while i'm on vacation
[14:28:35] <seb_kuzminsky> there's another parallelizable task, if anyone's interested, and that's to make a single set of shell commands that will configure 2.5, master, and rtos-integration for whatever host they find themselves building on, and build rip
[14:28:54] <cradek> ack, don't ruin your vacation...
[14:29:26] <seb_kuzminsky> i've talked with zultron some about this, he thinks he's all set on the rtos branch, but we need a solution that can be applied in 2.5 and merged forward
[14:29:52] <seb_kuzminsky> hacking on linuxcnc will be way more relaxing than taking the kids to harry potter world or whatever it is ;-)
[14:30:13] <seb_kuzminsky> ok speaking of which i really gotta go get ready! bye!

[19:27:13] <kwallace> Does the motion side and Gremlin have different g-code block checking? I made a bad g-code file by putting in GO0 Xxx (G Oh Zero) and got a Python exception from glcanon.py/hershey.py. It turns out the extents init values at 9e99 get passed and crashes hershy. I changed the init values to 999 and now don't get exceptions, but get a g-code error. I'm wondering why I didn't get the g-code error the first time, and is there a down side to the sm

[19:49:39] <jepler> until you hit the run key, task doesn't even parse the loaded part program.
[19:50:12] <jepler> without knowing more I'd speculate that there's a bug in the code you're working with when the extents are 9e99, though I can't speculate as to what that is
[19:50:28] <jepler> you might also see the same exception with a valid part program, such as one containing just the line 'm2'
[19:50:53] <jepler> anyway, I tried to produce this problem in the gremlin program in master branch (v2.5.2-2044-g24f213d) and did not observe an exception from gremlin
[19:51:18] <jepler> (linuxcnc axis.ini bad.ngc & wait for linuxcnc to start; gremlin axis.ini)
[19:51:48] <jepler> but from the things you've said it sounds like you're not talking about the gremlin program, but a version of gremlin that is embedded in gscreen and I know zero about that, not even how to try running it
[19:52:15] <jepler> (and so I could even be wrong about task not looking at the part program, since there is a 'verify' function that axis chose not to use way back when...)

I assumed the glcanon.py extent init values just didn't get changed and where passed to hershy and crashed OpenGL because the 3D space wasn't that big. That's just a guess. I don't know how big the space is. Lowering the init value does prevent a Python exception so I think I'll stick with it. I got some feed back that some AXIS g-co
