[00:00:10] <jepler> if he thinks he can just take config directories from git, his expectations are mistaken
[00:00:24] <cmorley> no he got it from buildbot
[00:00:52] <cmorley> of course he is not online so I can't get anymore info at this time.
[00:02:18] <cmorley> but thanks for explaining - I didn't understand that the files were copied there by the make file.
[00:02:48] <cmorley> I was going nuts trying to find it in the git web :)
[00:02:57] <seb_kuzm1nsky> linuxcnc-build: force build --branch=v2.5_branch --revision=v2.5.2 checkin /win 9
[00:03:01] <seb_kuzm1nsky> whoops
[00:03:02] <linuxcnc-build> The build has been queued, I'll give a shout when it starts
[00:03:15] <seb_kuzm1nsky> not the most useful reason, but the build will be right
[00:03:20] <jepler> since there are symlinks .. I wonder what "copy config to home directory" does about the symlinks
[00:03:27] <jepler> since that's what the user will do with a packaged version
[00:04:44] <cmorley> hmm maybe he installed master with buildbot - is that what you mean - it might be broke if installed?
[00:04:48] <seb_kuzm1nsky> there are 5 builds ahead of 2.5.2 in the buildbot queue
[00:05:24] <seb_kuzm1nsky> i think installing a deb then having the configpicker copy the config to your home directory works

[03:15:16] <cradek> yay, looks like it's building
[03:15:42] <seb_kuzm1nsky> yeah
[03:15:50] <seb_kuzm1nsky> source packages just hit the release repo on the buildbot
[03:15:54] <seb_kuzm1nsky> binary packages building now
[03:15:55] <seb_kuzm1nsky> :-)
[03:16:33] <cradek> yay!
[03:17:08] <seb_kuzm1nsky> iirc we rsync'ed buildbot.l.o/release to someplace on linuxcnc.org, then manually moved debs & dscs to the official repo, does that sound right?
[03:17:43] <seb_kuzm1nsky> all source packages finished, all binary packages building now :-)
[03:17:57] <cradek> I've got scripts here. it takes a detour through my machine.
[03:18:05] <seb_kuzm1nsky> cool
[03:20:35] <cradek> you've added a robots.txt since last time, and wget honors it!
[03:21:19] <seb_kuzm1nsky> oh no/yes!
[03:21:34] <seb_kuzm1nsky> i got sick of google's spider eating my uplink
[03:21:55] <seb_kuzm1nsky> the scripts are getting the version numbers right, which makes me happy
[03:22:12] <cradek> yeah, it says is_release=true in the right place
[03:22:19] <seb_kuzm1nsky> we use the most recent release tag, followed by the number of commits since then as the version
[03:22:29] <seb_kuzm1nsky> so the first build after 2.5.2 is 2.5.2-150...
[03:22:39] <seb_kuzm1nsky> due to the monster mega l10n merge
[03:22:48] <cradek> that's wild
[03:25:23] <cradek> can you allow wget in /release? I am having trouble fooling it locally.
[03:26:27] <seb_kuzm1nsky> yeah hold on
[03:26:42] <cradek> forget it, I figured out how to trick it
[03:26:48] <seb_kuzm1nsky> ok great
[03:30:43] <linuxcnc-build> Hey! build checkin #812 is complete: Success [3build successful]
[03:30:43] <linuxcnc-build> Build details are at http://buildbot.linuxcnc.org/buildbot/builders/checkin/builds/812
[03:31:53] <seb_kuzm1nsky> the debs are still building, that success message means something else
[03:32:17] <cradek> looks like it did start the next master build
[03:32:24] <cradek> must've been getting bored
[03:32:28] <seb_kuzm1nsky> yeah
[03:33:22] <seb_kuzm1nsky> the 'checkin' builder starts the next rip-and-test job in parallel with running deb builds, because deb builds dont do runtests, so those two kinds of builds don't interact with each other
[03:34:18] <cradek> I'm not sure if I would've figured out how to fix tonight's afu without you to start the necessary build
[03:34:49] <seb_kuzm1nsky> glad to be of service ;-)
[03:34:53] <seb_kuzm1nsky> linuxcnc-build: commands
[03:34:53] <linuxcnc-build> buildbot commands: commands, dance, destroy, force, hello, help, last, list, mute, notify, source, status, stop, unmute, version, watch
[03:34:57] <seb_kuzm1nsky> linuxcnc-build: help force
[03:34:57] <linuxcnc-build> Usage: force build [--branch=branch] [--revision=revision] [--props=prop1=val1,prop2=val2...] <which> <reason> - Force a build
[03:35:26] <seb_kuzm1nsky> just dont use a <reason> like "/win 9" like i did... it's super embarrasing
[03:35:32] <cradek> heh
[03:35:34] <seb_kuzm1nsky> i hope all those irc logger robots didnt notice
[03:35:41] <cradek> can spot an irssi user from here
[03:35:54] <cradek> an irssi user with an unreliable alt key
[03:36:05] <seb_kuzm1nsky> irssi is one of the many things you taught me that i really like :-)
[03:36:10] -!- R2E4 has quit [Quit: Not that there is anything wrong with that]
[03:36:27] <cradek> gateway drug to using screen all the time
[03:37:08] <seb_kuzm1nsky> i've been using screen for over a decade, but irssi only for a short while
[03:38:18] <seb_kuzm1nsky> wow, saying that makes me feel old
[03:38:22] <cradek> heh
[03:38:40] <cradek> I was just wondering if there was any software I was using 20 years ago that I'm still using
[03:39:07] <seb_kuzm1nsky> linux
[03:39:08] <cradek> I guess if linux/X/xterm/... counts, that's some
[03:39:08] <seb_kuzm1nsky> bash
[03:39:12] <seb_kuzm1nsky> yeah
[04:01:10] <seb_kuzm1nsky> precise sim debs are up

[04:21:51] <seb_kuzm1nsky> the precise i386 deb installs and runs, the version numbers in axis are correct
[04:25:46] <seb_kuzm1nsky> that's all of them - all 2.5.2 debs built
[04:27:24] <cradek> awesome, starting the copy...
[04:27:42] <seb_kuzm1nsky> i'm going to go upgrade my bridgeport...
[04:33:45] <seb_kuzm1nsky> hm that's odd
[04:34:14] <seb_kuzm1nsky> crap, hold off
[04:34:23] <cradek> ?
[04:34:39] <seb_kuzm1nsky> the wrong version is in the release repo for lucid i386 rt
[04:34:45] <seb_kuzm1nsky> it's got 2.5.2-150, not 2.5.2
[04:35:26] <cradek> what crappy luck that three things were going on at once
[04:37:05] <seb_kuzm1nsky> it's bad luck i guess, but forcing the build of the correct version should have worked
[04:37:10] <seb_kuzm1nsky> it worked for precise sim
[04:37:59] <cradek> and lucid/sim
[04:38:09] <seb_kuzm1nsky> it worked for all of precise
[04:38:10] <seb_kuzm1nsky> yeah
[04:38:17] <seb_kuzm1nsky> and all of hard
[04:38:18] <seb_kuzm1nsky> y
[04:38:25] <seb_kuzm1nsky> only lucid realtime broke
[04:38:30] <seb_kuzm1nsky> figures - our most popular platform!
[04:39:03] <cradek> they didn't get stuck in /dists either - they're MIA
[04:39:24] <seb_kuzm1nsky> yeah
[04:39:33] <seb_kuzm1nsky> here's the build step that messed up:
[04:39:43] <seb_kuzm1nsky> http://buildbot.linuxcnc.org/buildbot/builders/deb-lucid-rt-binary-i386/builds/703
[04:40:16] <seb_kuzm1nsky> in the build properties at the top right it's got the right version
[04:40:29] <seb_kuzm1nsky> but apt-get source fetched the wrong source devbv
[04:40:40] <seb_kuzm1nsky> err, the wrong source deb
[04:40:48] <seb_kuzm1nsky> and then all is lost
[04:40:57] <cradek> didn't we fix that once before?
[04:41:08] <cradek> I'm sure we've seen this
[04:41:24] <seb_kuzm1nsky> hmm
[04:41:30] <seb_kuzm1nsky> this is the command it ran: apt-get --download-only -q source linuxcnc=1:2.5.2
[04:43:50] <cradek> https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt/+bug/551178
[04:44:01] <cradek> This bug was fixed in the package apt - 0.7.25.3ubuntu5
[04:44:04] -!- pfred1 has quit [Quit: ..]
[04:44:31] <seb_kuzm1nsky> feck
[04:46:17] <seb_kuzm1nsky> that machine has apt 0.7.25.3ubuntu9.14
[04:46:33] <cradek> that's what mine has too
[04:46:50] <seb_kuzm1nsky> my bad
[04:46:52] <cradek> so they're wrong about it being fixed... dangit
[04:47:01] <seb_kuzm1nsky> i don't have the release repo in that machine's sources.list
[04:47:06] <seb_kuzm1nsky> no they're right
[04:47:11] <cradek> oh!
[04:47:20] <seb_kuzm1nsky> they try a fuzzy match *after* an exact match fails
[04:47:20] <cradek> well yay then
[04:47:26] <cradek> why did this change since 2.5.1?
[04:47:28] <seb_kuzm1nsky> arrg i'm a retard
[04:48:51] <seb_kuzm1nsky> hm, the other machines don't have the release repo in sources.list either, strance
[04:48:53] <seb_kuzm1nsky> strange
[04:50:09] <seb_kuzm1nsky> and anyway the requested sources are in the non-release repo, so they should have been found
[04:50:56] <cradek> someone suggests adding --only-source
[04:51:01] <seb_kuzm1nsky> ok i take it back, looks like it's not me that's the retard after all
[04:51:06] <seb_kuzm1nsky> hm, i'll try
[04:51:15] <cradek> https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups=#!topic/linux.debian.bugs.dist/dCs2_kmqun8
[04:51:38] <cradek> I know we spent hours befuddled by this problem before, but I don't remember whether we ever understood/fixed it
[04:53:42] <seb_kuzm1nsky> yeah --only-source made the symptom go away
[04:53:48] <seb_kuzm1nsky> but i'm still befuddled
[04:54:09] <cradek> seems it's been broken at least twice in history
[04:54:29] <cradek> so it's either broken again or was never fixed
[04:56:28] <cradek> so wth did lucid/v2.5_branch-sim get the right one?
[04:58:07] <seb_kuzm1nsky> they're both on the same version of apt
[04:58:23] <seb_kuzm1nsky> neither has the release repo in source.list
[04:59:12] <seb_kuzm1nsky> the same command (the apt-get i pasted above) does the right thing on every platform i've tested except lucid-rtai-i386
[05:00:34] <seb_kuzm1nsky> both branches have sane-looking Sources files
[05:02:39] <seb_kuzm1nsky> both machines are nearly fully updated, only som inconsequential-looking package updates available
[05:03:22] <cradek> I think I remember you moved/cleared something and the problem went away, and we shrugged and moved on
[05:06:12] <seb_kuzm1nsky> https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt/+bug/859665
[05:07:05] <seb_kuzm1nsky> i wonder what i moved/cleared :-(
[05:11:23] <cradek> apt-get clean?
[05:12:52] <seb_kuzm1nsky> look at the apt-get manpage blurb about --only-source
[05:13:26] <seb_kuzm1nsky> it sounds like "apt-get source $PACKAGE=$VERSION" looks for a binary package of that name and version, then figures out that binary package's source package, then downloads that
[05:13:58] <cradek> that smells related to this: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt/+bug/918213
[05:14:08] <seb_kuzm1nsky> in the somewhat bizarre confluence of circumstances we had, this would have the behavior we saw
[05:14:21] <seb_kuzm1nsky> but then why only lucid-rtai-i386? that makes no sense
[05:14:39] <seb_kuzm1nsky> 918213 is marked as a dupe of 859665
[05:14:47] <cradek> oh
[05:15:04] <seb_kuzm1nsky> yeah i think those are the bugs we just ran in to
[05:15:06] <cradek> does --only-source fix it?
[05:15:23] <seb_kuzm1nsky> it makes lucid-rtai-i386 do the right thing
[05:15:32] <seb_kuzm1nsky> haven't tried all the others yet, i'll do that now
[05:18:01] <seb_kuzm1nsky> except i'm testing in a different situation now - all those other distros have exact-matching binary packages (as well as the exact-matching source packages) so who knows
[05:18:08] <seb_kuzm1nsky> who knows what this test is showing
[05:20:40] <seb_kuzm1nsky> hardy through lucid at least accept --only-source, and so far i haven't seen one get the wrong source package when i use it

[23:46:04] <cradek> "hal net ..."?

[23:46:36] <cradek> then I have no idea, sorry
[23:47:20] <andypugh> The actual error is that it should be motor-pos-cmd, but the error dump was unclear, let me pastebin

[23:56:27] <seb_kuzminsky> andypugh: did twopass work for you in the past, and if so what changed?
[23:57:09] <seb_kuzminsky> i note there are zero files under tests/ containing the string "twopass" (case insensitive)...
[23:57:25] <seb_kuzminsky> that means i have 0+epsilon confidence that it works
[23:57:28] <andypugh> This is the first time I have tried it, and with a good HAL file it works fine. It just reports error messages strangely, it seems.
[23:57:52] <seb_kuzminsky> well, that's good i guess
