[02:08:06] <KimK> It looks like some G-code example format strings (in canned cycles, G81-G86, G89, more?) were removed from the latest user manual, is that intentional? Or is it a "typeface error" due to the docs conversion? In any case I would miss the examples, anything I can do?
[02:08:49] <KimK> (I was looking up peck drilling, lol)
[02:09:25] <cradek> I doubt it was on purpose, because probably you and jt and I would be the only ones who would touch it
[02:11:16] <KimK> OK. I've been staying strictly away from docs lately due to the conversion, and there being no "OK, we're all done" announcement. (Or did I miss it?)
[02:12:49] <cradek> I suspect the conversion is still imperfect, but there's no more organized work happening on it
[02:13:18] <cradek> we're definitely at the phase where we just need to fix bogus stuff one thing at a time.
[02:14:05] <cradek> so if you feel like it, please do bravely soldier on
[02:16:19] <KimK> OK, so I should resume fiddling with docs on an individual basis? Excellent, then before I fix those items, I'd like to research them a little, I don't think the R, L, Q, etc. ("extra operands"?) were ever properly documented. So that would be in, what, g-code interpreter?
[02:17:20] <KimK> I'd like to explain those more fully, or drop them if they don't really do anything in that particular canned cycle.
[02:17:33] <cradek> I think the canned cycle docs are fairly complete, but very badly organized. there's a section that applies to all the codes that talks about R,L,etc.
[02:18:00] <cradek> the docs *may* not be right for g98/g99 anymore, since I fixed g98/g99
[02:18:08] <cradek> let me find you the commit for that
[02:18:20] <KimK> Ah, excellent.
[02:19:22] <cradek> do a 'gitk --grep=g98' to see the two important commits
[02:19:50] <cradek> I bet those two logs are currently the best documentation for g98/g99
[02:21:36] <KimK> OK, that popped up your two and one by micges. All on the same date, yours, his, yours.
[02:22:16] <cradek> 'fix g98/g99 to match ...' and 'fix g93 peck retract...'
[02:23:01] <KimK> That might also give me a pointer into the general area where canned cycles are? I might just go looking around there various places before I'm done.
[02:23:29] <cradek> sure, it's all in there, but it's really very hard to understand
[02:23:44] <cradek> it's written to be plane-agnostic using lots of preprocessor goop
[02:24:49] <KimK> OK. Duly warned. Any other canned cycle advice relative to "extra operands"?
[02:25:49] <cradek> L is pretty easy to understand, R and G98/G99 interaction is a little more complex but these commits describe it
[02:25:57] <cradek> I don't think there are any other weird bits.
[02:26:40] <cradek> not sure if you want to mention polar specifically. drilling a bolt hole circle with one line is pretty cool - it could make a good example.
[02:28:27] <KimK> OK. I wish the peck drill canned cycle took an operand regarding stringer breaking. I like to interrupt the drilling cycle frequently to keep the stringers short, but I don't necessarily need to do a full retract *every* time. Maybe one in N pecks, or something?
[02:28:56] <cradek> you know about g73 right?

[02:29:12] <cradek> (but that's never a full retract)
[02:29:20] <KimK> No, but I'll look into it. Is that what I want?
[02:29:38] <cradek> I dunno, it's just a slight retract to break chip, doesn't pull out of the hole
[02:29:42] <KimK> OK, I could mix them, maybe?
[02:29:55] <KimK> s/mix/alternate/
[02:30:20] <KimK> Thanks, I'll look into it.
[02:34:29] <KimK> Oh, any word on what the "approved/recommended" solution is for all those new untracked files? (relating to the docs conversion, other languages, etc.?) I've been just ignoring them for now.
[02:35:18] -!-

[02:35:29] <cradek> I guess I ignore it too - git status shows a LOT of extra junk
[02:35:36] <cradek> sorry I'm no help there.
[02:36:13] <KimK> OK, thanks. I'm sure someone will have something to say about them at some point.
[02:37:20] <cradek> goodnight
[02:37:43] <KimK> goodnight, thanks for the advice!
