Back
[00:00:18] <mhaberler> will crash but read back - thanks for the drilling grilling
[00:00:56] <mhaberler> maybe a bit to ambitious for a debutante
[00:01:41] <andypugh> What is the formal process for patch submission? (Is there one?)
[00:02:24] <cradek> not really, and that seems like a failing
[00:02:32] -!- JT-Shop has quit [Quit: ChatZilla 0.9.86.1 [Firefox 3.6.16/20110319135224]]
[00:02:53] <cradek> we get patches that nobody grabs because (I think) nobody feels qualified to verify them
[00:03:10] <andypugh> Aye, I have one patch that has been waiting 2 months, and another one month.
[00:03:21] <cradek> that sucks
[00:03:23] <cradek> are they for master?
[00:04:28] <andypugh> They are both new(ish). One adds handling of unknown Smart Serial Mesa cards (just gives raw register access)
[00:04:37] -!- theorbtwo has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds]
[00:04:40] <andypugh> That sounds like Master.
[00:04:41] theorb is now known as theorbtwo
[00:05:29] <cradek> ... I'm pretty unqualified on that one
[00:05:32] <cradek> what's the other?
[00:05:48] <andypugh> The other is more complicated, as it initially fixed a scale-sense confusion in the gearchange comp (that should maybe go in whichever versions contian the new 32-gear comp)
[00:06:05] -!- mhaberler_ has quit [Quit: mhaberler_]
[00:07:00] <andypugh> But then there was discussion that it was too compromised to be backwards compatible, so I made a cleaner and more sensible version. I was awaiting a decision as to which was preferred, and where.
[00:07:10] <cradek> 32 gears in gearchange.comp is in 2.5
[00:07:45] <cradek> hm, who was the other half of the discussion?
[00:08:08] <andypugh> Seb said he would review it ("this afternoon") on the 2nd(?) of Feb
[00:08:17] -!- mhaberler has quit [Quit: mhaberler]
[00:08:44] <cradek> have you poked him since then? (I think he just started a new job)
[00:11:16] <andypugh> Yes. I think he is one of the (many) people I tend to rub up the wrong way, so don't like to hassle too much.
[00:13:00] <cradek> hmm I haven't noticed that...
[00:13:26] <andypugh> Anyway, original discussion was here: http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.distributions.emc.devel/4017/focus=4027
[00:13:56] <andypugh> Second vesion here: http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.distributions.emc.devel/4043/focus=4045
[00:15:55] <cradek> hmm I see what you mean
[00:17:51] <cradek> I don't know how to help you with either patch :-/
[00:18:37] <andypugh> I have a high confidence in the smart-serial patch. That has been tested and works.
[00:18:45] <cradek> ok, then I will push it
[00:18:51] <andypugh> (and is for dev anyway)
[00:20:08] <cradek> right
[00:20:09] <andypugh> The other one, it either needs to go in 2.5 as a fix for the scale-inversion, or totally replace the old one and break things which can be fixed in the sample configs. Or perhaps both...
[00:21:38] <CIA-8> EMC: 03cradek 07master * rb91a6c1585f5 10/src/ (4 files in 2 dirs): Add raw-register access for unrecognised Smart-Serial devices
[00:25:37] <andypugh> Thanks
[00:27:01] <cradek> I have to punt on the other one

[12:05:35] <mhaberler> jthornton: next is to cut prune the common/machining_center.txt Parameters section and just leave a link to common/overview.txt, ok?
[12:05:50] <jthornton> sounds good to me
[12:09:18] <jepler> it looks like lyxtree relied on imagemagick convert to get convert ps/eps
[12:09:42] <jepler> convert -density 96 -resize '1000x9999>' srcfile tempdstfile
[12:13:15] <mhaberler> jthornton: same goes for obsolete tool table in machining_center,ok?
[12:14:11] <jthornton> sounds good to me
[12:14:45] -!- Valen has quit [Quit: Leaving.]
[12:18:46] <mhaberler> actually I think we should keep this figure: http://emc.mah.priv.at/docs/html/common/machining_center.html#cap:Tool-Orientations
[12:19:36] <mhaberler> it is better at displaying the controlled point than 'Lathe Tool Orientations' in http://emc.mah.priv.at/docs/html/lathe/lathe-user.html#_tool_table
[12:20:47] <jthornton> the second one has additional info though
[12:20:57] <mhaberler> yes.
[12:21:10] <mhaberler> also see the ones here: http://code.google.com/p/heekscnc/wiki/ToolTable
[12:21:21] <mhaberler> the front/back/toolangel looks good here
[12:22:59] <jthornton> yes it does, but I still get confused as to what is front/back for the 8 different positions... and it is only used in Axis AFAIK
[12:24:49] <mhaberler> actually I have doubts wether angles agree with axis
[12:25:10] <jthornton> how is that?
[12:25:43] <mhaberler> the definition of frontangel and backangle in the heeksnc image, and the one in lather-user
[12:26:28] <jthornton> the one in lathe user was developed by trial and error with Axis and a lathe config
[12:26:49] <mhaberler> that image is unusable, angles start in wrong quadrant
[12:27:32] <jthornton> the heekscad one
[12:27:40] <mhaberler> yes
[12:28:22] <mhaberler> ok. But I'll keep the one for machining_center to name orientations, operations and describe controlled point,
[12:28:45] <jthornton> ok
[12:31:05] <mhaberler> any idea what the 'Tool CL X deg' abbreviation is supposed to mean in the 'Tool Positions 1,2,3&4' image in http://emc.mah.priv.at/docs/html/lathe/lathe-user.html#_tool_table?
[12:31:20] -!- pingufan has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
[12:32:11] <jthornton> that is the centerline of the tool so the front angle and back angle can be figured out
[12:32:23] <mhaberler> ah.
[12:33:00] <mhaberler> does the source for these images still exist or is that lost in time?
[12:33:24] <jthornton> is the dxf file of the same name there?
[12:34:06] <jthornton> yep it is there tool_positions.dxf
[12:34:31] <mhaberler> ah, super. thanks-
[12:34:52] <jthornton> so that means that it was post jeplersmackingmeontheheadfornotsavingthesource

[19:45:38] <JT-Shop> I probably misunderstood this "probably both user and integrator aspects - otherwise its littered all over plus duplication"
[19:47:27] <mhaberler> well, now you have a bit of lathe tool table here, mill tool table there, tlo yet another place, tool change TBD - thats what I meant; some is user relvant, some is integrator. I mean another approach is doing a structure under this view and just refer to the bits in their current places.
[19:50:53] <JT-Shop> Yea, that part is still a mess :/
[19:51:15] <JT-Shop> is there some integrator stuff in the user manual?
[19:51:32] <mhaberler> i'd have to look at it
[19:51:49] <mhaberler> the procedure-based toolchange and iocontrol-v2 isnt really enduser, is it?
[19:52:18] <JT-Shop> no, I'd think integrator info there
[19:52:43] <mhaberler> H, I'll browse it under this perspective
[19:52:49] <mhaberler> but that wasnt my issue
[19:53:29] <JT-Shop> I don't think the lathe user section turned out like I had hoped
[19:54:03] <JT-Shop> tool table info should be all in one spot
[19:55:48] <mhaberler> I'll sleep over it and come up with a structure, which either collects the bits or refers to them - collects new, refers to old probably to start with, and it can be readjusted piecemeal
[19:56:16] <JT-Shop> the more I think of the Tooling section it makes more sense to me
[19:57:24] <JT-Shop> sleep tight and don't let the bed bugs bite :)
[19:58:05] <tom3p> got the oword tool changer to work a bit, i made a shuttle tool changer in vismach but cant change a vismach tool
[19:58:41] <tom3p> so far, a vismach tool would be joined and de-joined to the vismach spindle ,and i dont see how that can be done
[19:59:30] <tom3p> i was just sim-ing it cuz i dont have the real hdwr
