[13:35:08] <andypugh> Has anyone tried compiling the RTAI USB stack at https://www.rtai.org/RTAICONTRIB/
[13:36:36] <andypugh> I have been fiddling with it, and it has a number of issues with kernel macros that have been changed/deleted in the interim, but it also seems to have fundamental problems which mean it could never have compiled, like lots of problems along the lines of "that structure doesn't have an element with that name"
[13:37:30] <andypugh> I get rather lost in the hierarchy of structures, too. (and as for the macros of macros of macros...)
[13:43:48] <archivist> I remember looking at a realtime USB but I never got around to compiling
[13:44:18] <archivist> I hate macro abuse too
[13:45:51] <andypugh> back later, but will read back

[18:52:18] <skunkworks> so - here is an interesting tidbit. I have my spindle speed comp 'atspeed' signal only goes true when the spindle is running and is at speed. If the spindle is stopped - the at speed signal is false. If I start emc - I can issue an mdi command to move the axis around. if I turn the spindle on (s100m3) I can still issue mdi commands. If I do an m5 - I cannot issue mdi commands until I...
[18:52:20] <skunkworks> ...hit escape. I narrowed it down to unhooking the at speed signal from the comp and setting it true - then the issued mdi command starts moving.
[18:53:10] <skunkworks> I think the fix is to have atspeed true even when the spindle is stopped.
[18:53:14] <skunkworks> but just seemed odd

[19:20:12] -!- tom3p [tom3p!~tomp@74-93-88-241-Illinois.hfc.comcastbusiness.net] has parted #emc-devel
[19:26:55] <skunkworks> seems to fix it by setting the at speed true when the spindle is off and supposed to be off :)
[20:08:07] <andypugh> archivist: The one I am looking at is linked to RTAI, the other one appears not to be.
[20:08:54] <archivist> andypugh, two old bit rotted codebases as a starting point I suppose
[20:09:25] <archivist> both seem to have missing functionality
[20:09:32] <andypugh> All we need now is at least one competent coder, rather than a bumbling amateur and whatever you count as.
[20:10:17] <archivist> have been a paid coder and done device driver but never done usb
[20:12:31] <archivist> I did download the usb2 spec a couple of years ago to give it a reading, I see no reason except for an idiot plugging in a device while machining for usb to be ok using the synchronous fast mode
[20:15:00] <archivist> maybe a plugging in event should be defined as an estop both sides of the interface
[20:15:51] <andypugh> Sounds not unreasnable.
[20:17:43] <archivist> trouble is the usb1 speed of discovery, once a synchronous usb2 mode is established , no interruption should be allowed
[20:20:59] -!- adb has quit [Ping timeout: 246 seconds]
[20:21:38] <archivist> what I dont know is the separation of channels in that respect as there is some sharing
[20:21:45] -!- adb [adb!~Moldovean@178-211-232-101.dhcp.voenergies.net] has joined #emc-devel
[20:26:27] <archivist> andypugh, hmm easy to find ehci-sched.c has the regular message
[20:26:39] <archivist> messaging I meant
[20:29:37] <andypugh> There is file of that name in the RTAI packae
[20:30:09] <archivist> I know I downloaded
[20:30:24] <archivist> I was just pointing it out
[20:31:13] <archivist> basicly set up some fixed packets/structures both ways
[20:36:26] <andypugh> I can't say I have actually looked at the code from a functional point of view, I have just been seeing what is stopping it compiling.
[20:38:11] <archivist> may need microframes because we want bidirectional rather than full speed single direction as a memory stick/disk would want
[20:39:50] <archivist> iirc you get more than one USB controller in a pc, would be sensible to say only use machine control on a dedicated one
[20:41:03] -!- theorbtwo has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
[20:41:03] theorb is now known as theorbtwo
[20:45:15] <archivist> Im hesitant to do it on this box while its serving
[20:51:16] <archivist> hmm right old bunch of errors
[21:01:55] <archivist> dont like mv: cannot move `/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.24-16-rtai/Module.symvers' to `/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.24-16-rtai/__Module.symvers': Permission denied

[21:32:09] <psha> archivist: search in IRC log archives (new and old) is something needed or not?
[21:33:38] -!- Emcrules_Laptop has quit [Quit: Leaving]
[21:34:11] <archivist> andypugh, in stack/usb_rtdm.h change linux/usb_ch9.h to linux/usb/ch9.h
[21:35:10] <archivist> psha, yes I think so, and a merge program to create a good archive due to logger drop outs :)
[21:35:32] <psha> hm, merge program sounds like something good...
[21:35:37] <psha> however nontrivial ;)
[21:36:07] <archivist> psha, I actually have log content already in a database because of the way it works
[21:36:46] <psha> heh, i'm certified sql hater so i've looked around and found Xapian ;)
[21:37:00] <psha> and it works quite good
[21:37:00] <archivist> I should enable my search engine on the log and display a range
[21:37:32] <psha> i've posted link already but here it is: http://psha.org.ru/irc/
[21:37:50] <psha> http://psha.org.ru/irc/search/?q=toolchanger+iocontrol&channel=&go=Go
[21:37:57] <psha> example (only recent logs are there)
[21:45:37] <psha> so i'll import archives tomorrow
[21:45:40] <andypugh> archivist: I got that library change, and also changing SLAB_* to GFP_*
[21:45:50] <psha> let's look how it'll look
[21:46:13] <psha> and now it's tome to sleeep
