[00:50:33] <seb_kuzminsky> heh
[01:16:21] <jepler> seb_kuzminsky: deb.doc looks fine to apply to master
[01:42:31] <seb_kuzminsky> jepler: ok, thanks :-)

[03:10:41] <seb_kuzminsky> did you guys see John Guenther's bug report in the touchy thread? i can reproduce it here
[03:11:00] <seb_kuzminsky> i think it's a problem with upgrading fom 2.3 to 2.4, something we missed on the wiki
[03:13:24] <seb_kuzminsky> to reproduce:
[03:13:40] <seb_kuzminsky> 1. remove your ~/emc2/configs
[03:13:46] <seb_kuzminsky> 2. install emc 2.3.5
[03:14:05] <seb_kuzminsky> 3. run emc, pick the sim/axis config, let emc install it in ~/emc2/configs
[03:14:22] <seb_kuzminsky> 4. notice that axis starts & everything works fine
[03:14:36] <seb_kuzminsky> 5. quit axis, upgrade to 2.4.0~preWhatever
[03:15:31] <seb_kuzminsky> 6. in ~/emc2/configs/sim/axis.ini, comment out NML_FILE
[03:15:43] <seb_kuzminsky> 7. run emc, watch axis start & all's well
[03:16:00] <seb_kuzminsky> 8. quit axis, change DISPLAY to touchy
[03:16:14] <seb_kuzminsky> 9. now when you start emc, it fails like John reports
[03:18:57] <seb_kuzminsky> hm, actually my error's different from his...
[03:19:42] <seb_kuzminsky> mine's user error :-(
[03:24:14] <seb_kuzminsky> hm, touchy's doing some shenanigans with the python sys.path
[03:37:09] <cradek> doesn't his nml error have nothing to do with touchy?
[03:37:40] <seb_kuzminsky> yeah i think the nml message is a red herring
[03:37:42] <cradek> doesn't it not make hard to understand when I don't not use any double negatives?
[03:38:00] <cradek> what's wrong with yours?
[03:38:12] <seb_kuzminsky> * seb_kuzminsky blushes
[03:38:30] <seb_kuzminsky> i forgot to supply touchy.hal
[03:38:40] <seb_kuzminsky> and i misread the error - i was distracted by the nml thing too
[03:39:00] <seb_kuzminsky> right now i'm looking at the "ImportError: cannot import name emc_interface"
[03:39:28] <cradek> bizarre, I've run it both installed and rip
[03:40:13] <seb_kuzminsky> touchy works fine for me when i install the deb too
[03:40:24] <cradek> but not rip?
[03:40:33] <seb_kuzminsky> but haven't tried rip, i assume it works
[03:41:06] <cradek> I'm confused
[03:42:20] <seb_kuzminsky> yeah its confusing
[03:42:42] <seb_kuzminsky> maybe he messed the install up somehow? i mailed him (on the list) asking for some details
[03:43:24] <cradek> my guess is he's running two different configs. he thinks the DISPLAY= is the only difference, but it's not - one is from 2.3 and one is from 2.4.
[03:44:01] <seb_kuzminsky> he said he generated a new config from scratch using the 2.4 stepconf
[03:44:49] <cradek> well changing DISPLAY= won't cause an nml error...
[04:23:39] <ries_> ries_ is now known as ries
[04:27:10] <seb_kuzminsky> is there a quit button in touchy?
[04:31:32] <cradek> no
[04:31:59] <cradek> it exits right when you use the window manager's exit button
[04:38:30] <CIA-2> EMC: 03seb 07master * re284a9121f1b 10/debian/rules.in: remove autoconf-generated files correctly
[04:40:27] <seb_kuzminsky> cool
[04:41:17] <seb_kuzminsky> here's a patch that i think fixes the "install .pyc" problem:
http://git.highlab.com/?p=emc2.git;a=shortlog;h=refs/heads/python-fixes
[04:41:31] <seb_kuzminsky> i verified that the sim/touchy config still works after this
[04:42:02] <seb_kuzminsky> i'm not 100% sure it's all right, and i'm about to go lie on the beach for a week, so i dont want to push it to master tonight
[04:42:51] <seb_kuzminsky> have fun y'all, i'm out of here
[04:42:52] <cradek> .pyc were in emc2.files.in? that's bizarro world
[04:42:56] <cradek> goodnight
[04:43:02] <cradek> have fun on the vacation
[04:43:14] <seb_kuzminsky> i'll be counting the days until i can come pick up the mill ;-)
[04:43:25] <cradek> it's still right where you left it...
[04:43:42] <cradek> but with some extra boxes of goodies stacked around it
[04:43:48] <seb_kuzminsky> yum!
[04:44:55] <seb_kuzminsky> oh hey, do you want to come along back to boulder & help me unload it & set it up? i think i can probably handle it, but having another person there who's actually done some rigging before would make me feel safer
[04:45:42] <cradek> that might be fun
[04:45:52] <cradek> wish I could ride back with you, but that leaves me a bit stuck
[04:46:02] <cradek> is there room on your trailer for my little car too? :-)
[04:46:07] <seb_kuzminsky> i wonder if your little red card would... heh
[04:46:09] <seb_kuzminsky> there might be
[04:46:22] <cradek> that would be pretty cool
[04:46:30] <seb_kuzminsky> i'll check with dan how long the trailer is
[04:46:42] <seb_kuzminsky> it's rated for 10k lbs, so i imagine it's pretty big
[04:46:47] <cradek> yeah that's big
[04:46:56] <cradek> (that's a darn big truck too)
[04:47:23] <seb_kuzminsky> we'll probably take the small truck, since we wont be actually putting 10k lbs on it this time
[04:48:09] <cradek> we can figure it out when it gets closer - sounds like fun to me.
[04:48:19] <seb_kuzminsky> sounds good :-)
[04:48:23] <seb_kuzminsky> ttyl
[04:48:27] <cradek> 'night
[05:07:27] <cradek> hm, if I were braver, I could try this hm2-synthesized-tach-feedback thing on jr.
