[16:37:45] <jepler> cradek:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:KB_France.svg
[16:37:55] <jepler> french is probably the most hostile keyboard I know of
[16:38:01] <jepler> particularly because all the numbers are shifted
[16:39:37] <cradek> wow
[16:39:59] <cradek> is Q used more in french?
[16:41:28] <jepler> apparently yes. 1.362% vs .095%

[20:09:52] <alex_joni> jepler: re french keyboard.. tell me about it.. last summer I spent about 10 minutes in an internet cafe looking for the @ sign
[20:10:19] <SWPadnos> I kept getting screwed up on my sisters German keyboard
[20:10:20] <skunkworks_> heh - had the same problem in mexico. :)
[20:10:30] <SWPadnos> quotes/apostrophes were weird
[20:11:06] <SWPadnos> sometimes I'd get what looked like a double-quote character if I typed two apostrophes in a row
[20:11:17] <skunkworks_> uh - unhappy customer.
[20:11:25] <SWPadnos> very
[20:14:38] <alex_joni> SWPadnos: german is easy, I use a german layout all the time
[20:14:48] <SWPadnos> not me, not me! :)
[20:15:04] <alex_joni> well... it helps if you type in german
[20:15:11] <SWPadnos> I'm sure
[20:15:21] <alex_joni> easier to read than oe, ae, ue too :)
[20:15:28] <SWPadnos> but it was punctuation that was a problem for me most of all
[20:15:37] <alex_joni> yeah, I know..
[20:15:50] <alex_joni> I use 3 layouts on a daily basis (en mostly, de and ro)
[20:15:59] <alex_joni> each have different punctuations
[20:16:47] <alex_joni> bbl..
[21:34:02] <jepler> incidentally, I see in this AMD manual that FXSAVE / FXRSTOR (which I think are the suggested ways to save and load FPU state on current CPUs) have latencies of 60 and 87 cycles. FNSAVE / FLDENV are 162 and 116 cycles. Looks like it could come to 300ns on a slow machine.
[21:36:31] <jepler> er, I guess FNSAVE / FRSTOR are counterparts, 162/132 cycles
[21:38:27] <jepler> different CPUs will have different cycle counts, I imagine, but I bet they're all in the same ballpark

[21:56:31] <SWPadnos> that's double-plus-good
