yeah lots of machines have two gears, one often reversed

I don't know if they had anything done to it, but it sure looks like it's made at the same factory
I noticed in particular that the two main knobs turned within .1" of each other. it would be almost impossible to use.
the compound was worse - no way you could turn either one unless it was set at 30 deg +
heh - no manual (intentional) taper cuts :)
I suspect they see it more as an accessory for the mill than as a standalone lathe, but who knows
yeah I know. it's a shame they couldn't find a better one.
well, greg talked about "they can take it off and use it as a manual lathe" as a feature

at least it should be able to do 1PPR threading now though ;)
