[00:04:08] <Tom_itx> CaptHindsight, you against sears tools?
[00:04:30] <Tom_itx> they've got digital torque wrenches
[00:04:43] <Tom_itx> snapon is probably 2.5x higher
[00:04:52] <CaptHindsight> Tom_itx: yeah just got a new one on fleabay for $90
[00:05:09] <Tom_itx> k
[00:05:12] <CaptHindsight> looks like new old stock/discontinued
[00:05:27] <Tom_itx> it'll still show torque :)
[00:05:50] <Tom_itx> i was looking for 1/2" drive the other day
[00:05:55] <CaptHindsight> not just older torque settings?
[00:05:57] <Tom_itx> wound up not needing one
[00:09:30] <CaptHindsight> Ace hardware started carrying Craftsman, so it's easier to exchange broken tools now
[00:12:57] <CaptHindsight> I like Snap-On for the specialty tools. Wrenches, sockets, screw drivers all wear and break about the same rate from any of the lifetime warranty brands
[00:15:55] <CaptHindsight> http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item.asp?P65=&tool=&item_ID=737947&group_ID=683084&store=&dir=catalog this seems a bit over priced
[00:16:29] <CaptHindsight> ~3K ea per socket
[00:17:35] -!- ries_nicked [ries_nicked!~ries@190.9.171.121] has joined #linuxcnc
[00:17:35] <Valen> if you are buying 2.5" drive sockets you can probably afford it ;-P
[00:17:38] <WalterN> snapon is really expensive, but they dont ask questions, and overall quality is higher than anything else I've seen
[00:17:50] * Valen uses sidchrome
[00:17:55] -!- ries has quit [Ping timeout: 245 seconds]
[00:17:55] ries_nicked is now known as ries
[00:20:13] <WalterN> craftsman tools is good for most stuff though
[00:20:41] <WalterN> sometimes you need a stronger slightly thinner walled socket to reach into something
[00:21:35] -!- zorg_ [zorg_!~user@c-69-243-128-44.hsd1.il.comcast.net] has joined #linuxcnc
[00:21:48] <WalterN> CaptHindsight: a friend and I might end up designing/building/selling rapid prototyping stuff
[00:22:25] <WalterN> upgrade kits for existing cheap garbage, and possibly later on from scratch machines
[00:22:49] <CaptHindsight> http://3dprintingindustry.com/2013/11/26/stratasys-throws-curve-ball-smacks-afinia-lawsuit/

[00:28:41] <zorg_> #dd-wrt
[00:28:56] <zorg_> sorry
[00:29:08] <Valen> kickban 4 life!
[00:29:16] <Valen> ;-p
[00:29:18] <CaptHindsight> Valen: the Sidchrome warranty link takes you to http://ourwarranty.com.au/ Stanley/Black&Decker
[00:29:37] <Valen> yeah, they got baught out :-<
[00:29:41] <CaptHindsight> is Sidchrome their high end line?
[00:29:52] <Valen> i believe so
[00:30:01] <WalterN> 10% of their revenues
[00:30:14] <Valen> I'm going to start making my own tools soon
[00:30:18] <WalterN> as a percentage, that does not seem like much
[00:30:28] <CaptHindsight> in most of China Stanley is the high end line :(
[00:30:43] <Valen> they used to actually be made in sydney
[00:32:13] <andypugh> They own Facom too.
[00:34:21] <Valen> dad and I are half way through designing a set of pliers (as in linesman, snips etc) that take carbide/hss inserts and have adjustable/replaceble hinges
[00:34:36] <Tom_itx> it's harder for me to get snapon now and the sears high end work just as well
[00:34:55] <Tom_itx> i'm not doing it full time so it's not that critical
[00:36:12] <andypugh> I doubt it ever is that critical.
[00:36:37] <andypugh> None of the mechanics at work use Snap-On.
[00:37:07] <Tom_itx> the only thing they really got goin for em is delivery
[00:38:50] <WalterN> yeah
[00:39:09] -!- Nick001 has quit [Ping timeout: 265 seconds]
[00:39:14] <WalterN> I wouldent get snapon unless you work at a mechanic shop at least part time
[00:39:31] <Tom_itx> i've got a pile of em from days gone by
[00:39:34] -!- Nick001 [Nick001!~Nick001@clsm-74-47-112-166-pppoe.dsl.clsm.epix.net] has joined #linuxcnc
[00:39:53] <CaptHindsight> the SnapOn factory is not far from here. Mac is the other tool co in the area with trucks that drive right to shops and sell direct
[00:40:07] <Tom_itx> yeah
[00:40:22] <Tom_itx> i don't think their quality is quite as good
[00:40:24] <CaptHindsight> they both have online shops now
[00:40:33] <Tom_itx> maybe they've improved...
[00:40:52] <andypugh> Mac is part of Stanley....
[00:41:00] <CaptHindsight> whenever I'd call they said they would have to contact the truck in the area to come out
[00:41:50] <CaptHindsight> oh nooes, pretty soon it's all going to be Stanley
[00:41:57] <Tom_itx> now if i break one i just toss it in the car and wait til i see a truck
[00:42:26] <Valen> I probably would have gone snapon if I could buy them easily
[00:44:31] <CaptHindsight> the stocking stuffer tools sets have reappeared, the ones with 102 pieces, 80 being tips for screw drivers and 10 wrenches all too short to get any torque on them
[00:45:36] <Valen> lol
[00:45:58] <Valen> I got the wifes sister a sidchrome toolbox for her 18th birthday
[00:46:21] <andypugh> Did that please her?
[00:46:22] <Tom_itx> CaptHindsight if you could get torque on them, they'd probably break
[00:47:57] <Valen> well the rest of the space was stuffed with "adult products" from the wife so hopefully one or the other did lol
[00:48:02] <CaptHindsight> I somehow ended up with a few 1/2 and 3/8 extensions that twisted when torqued. One actually twisted 90 deg without shearing
[00:48:09] -!- morfic [morfic!~morfic@unaffiliated/morfic] has joined #linuxcnc
[00:48:26] <Valen> I made this up for it too http://www.vapourforge.com/jake/stuff_made/sasha-plaque/sasha-plaque.jpg
[00:48:54] <Valen> her step father was rather jealous lol (presumably about the tools, not the toys)
[00:49:43] <CaptHindsight> Craftsman 60 pc socket and dildo set ?
[00:49:45] <andypugh> What an earthy lot you colonials are.
[00:50:00] <Valen> of course it was opened in front of the family with the grandparents in attendance
[00:50:21] <Valen> as is appropriate for an 18th i believe
[00:52:01] -!- skunkworks has quit [Ping timeout: 252 seconds]

[01:11:49] <Jymmm> Valen: Note the number of reviews... http://www.amazon.com/Vibratex-HV-250R-Magic-Wand-Massager/dp/B00005M1WE
[01:12:37] <Valen> heh, i got wifey the australian version of that, it has also had "positive reviews"
[01:13:00] <Jymmm> Valen: But, give it to her like this: http://www.fairfaxunderground.com/forum/file.php?40,file=86242,filename=dildo-nazi.jpg

[01:48:41] <NickParker> andypugh: Did you and/or PCW make any progress porting table mode to mesa?
[01:49:03] -!- voxadam_ [voxadam_!voxadam@71-34-92-238.ptld.qwest.net] has joined #linuxcnc
[01:49:05] <andypugh> Yes, but no :-)
[01:49:33] <andypugh> Yes, I have 4 sets of step pulses. But I don't understand them.
[01:49:33] -!- voxadam has quit [Ping timeout: 246 seconds]
[01:50:22] <NickParker> what are they doing?
[01:50:51] <andypugh> Nothing that makes much sense to me :-)
[01:51:22] <NickParker> so.. not following any sort of table you've given it then?
[01:51:48] <andypugh> Probably, I just am not sure how
[01:54:02] <andypugh> I need a bit of clarification from PCW.
[01:54:16] <andypugh> I can definitely control all 4 pins.
[01:54:39] <NickParker> hmm, well thanks for working on it.
[01:54:45] <andypugh> I am trying to figure out the logic now
[01:57:04] <andypugh> I think the bit I don't understand is how the table is cleared/purged
[01:57:52] -!- skunkworks [skunkworks!~chatzilla@str-broadband-ccmts-ws-26.dsl.airstreamcomm.net] has joined #linuxcnc
[01:58:44] <pcw_home> the table is written from the last to first (and you need to set the table length)
[01:59:48] <andypugh> But once I have written a table, how do I write a new one? Or is it a ring-buffer where it just reads the last N entries?
[02:00:06] <pcw_home> last n
[02:00:14] <andypugh> Hmm, OK
[02:00:31] <pcw_home> well assuming you have set N (table length)
[02:00:57] <andypugh> And the 6 least significant bits control the (up to) 6 pins in each stepgen?
[02:01:26] <andypugh> (no padding of multiple patterns into the 32 bits?)
[02:01:54] <pcw_home> yes bit 0 is "step" bit1 is "dir" bit 2 is table2 etc
[02:02:24] <andypugh> Halscope might not be the ideal tool.
[02:03:14] <pcw_home> 4 LEDs , stepgen in velocity m ode at 1Hz may be more appropriate
[02:04:35] <andypugh> NickParker: Are you set up to apply a patch and compile LinuxCNC?
[02:04:58] <andypugh> It's time I went to sleep.
[02:05:03] <NickParker> er, probably? I have a PC with linuxcnc installed.I can give it internet if you need me to.
[02:05:34] <andypugh> There is rather more to it than that.
[02:05:56] <andypugh> I guess you didn't compile your current version from source?
[02:06:00] -!- printallthething has quit [Ping timeout: 246 seconds]
[02:06:14] <NickParker> No i did not.
[02:07:08] <andypugh> How much of a hury are you in to try this?
[02:07:43] <NickParker> no hurry, but i have this week off so i have plenty of time to work on it.
[02:08:05] -!- asdfasd has quit [Ping timeout: 265 seconds]
[02:09:55] <andypugh> I could probably push this to Master for the builbot to build, except I am not 100% sure that it works properly (though I don't _think_ it breaks the normal stepgen)
[02:13:15] <NickParker> Yeah I just looked up building linuxcnc, I would need another machine running linux, that'd probably take me as long to set up as you pushing to master.
[02:14:05] -!- skorasaurus has quit [Quit: WeeChat 0.3.7]
[02:14:42] <andypugh> You can build on your existing machine, by default a compiled-from-source version doesn't over-write the installed version.

[07:54:39] <GuShH> mrsun_: they measure a tenth of their rated capacity
[07:54:58] <GuShH> that's doing a discharge and charge cycle to measure the capacity
[07:55:00] <mrsun_> ahh there =)
[07:55:11] <mrsun_> haha
[07:55:17] <mrsun_> suckered like hell i guess =)

[07:55:28] <GuShH> I got some lithium ion and they were half their rated capacity

[20:31:24] <WalterN> andypugh: never brought a 3-jaw before, the CNC lathe its going to be used in has a royal A2-8 collet chuck on it right now, when looking for a 3-jaw is there anything I need to look for in regards to mounting?
[20:32:09] <andypugh> I really am no expert. Not at all.
[20:33:06] <andypugh> I was being a bit tongue-in-cheek with the Taylor comment. I would quite like one for my Rivett as they were considered the Bees Knees until the company went bust in about 1950.
[20:33:33] <WalterN> oh heh
[20:33:48] <andypugh> http://www.lathes.co.uk/taylor/page6.html
[20:34:24] <andypugh> You need a chuck with an A2-8 backplate, basically. I don't think you will find that anyone bothers making rubbish on that fitting.
[20:37:40] <andypugh> Is this inside your budget? http://www.ebay.com/itm/121221660159
[20:38:36] <WalterN> heh yeah it is
[20:39:12] <andypugh> Well, I would certainly trush Pratt-Burnerd for a chuck brand.
[20:39:52] -!- juanluisrp has quit [Read error: Operation timed out]
[20:40:24] <WalterN> now I just need to find that same chuck online where the specs are actually showing
[20:41:05] <andypugh> There is a nice, brand new. Pratt Burnerd air chuck on there too, but with no backplate (as far as I can tell). The one in the link above appears to be A2-something, yopu might have to scale off the photot to figure out if it is A2-8, but it's an 8" chuck, and the holes are in the right place
[20:41:15] <WalterN> when they say 'scroll' thats the thing that screws into the chuck to clamp/unclamp, right?
[20:42:01] <andypugh> No, it's an internal part of the chuck.
[20:42:30] <andypugh> http://www.600uk.com/data/downloads/products/PBI%20Workholding%20Catalogue.pdf
[20:46:02] <WalterN> so its the 200mm size

[20:52:34] <WalterN> or wait
[20:52:48] <WalterN> maybe not
[20:53:30] <andypugh> Making an adaptor plate ought to be fairly easy :-)
[20:53:51] <WalterN> not without that 3-jaw to hold on to such a thing
[20:55:11] <andypugh> You don't have a 4-jaw either?
[20:57:26] <WalterN> no
[20:57:39] <andypugh> A faceplate?
[20:57:45] <WalterN> dont have much of anything
[20:58:23] -!- Valen has quit [Quit: Leaving.]
[20:58:26] <WalterN> the only thing I know is that the collet chuck on there now is a royal S-30 with the A2-8 mounting... or whatever
[20:58:49] <andypugh> Yeah, that means that the lathe spindle has an A2-8 mount.
[20:59:07] <WalterN> so I dont need an adapter plate
[20:59:16] <andypugh> But you could measure to check: http://www.lathes.co.uk/latheparts/page12.html
[20:59:48] <WalterN> measure what?
[21:00:19] <andypugh> You don't need an adaptor plate _if_ you find a chuch which ahs an integral A2-8, or is already fitted to an A2-8 adaptor, or you want to make an A2-8 adaptor.
[21:00:26] <andypugh> The spindle taper.
[21:01:03] <WalterN> so I would need to take the chuck off of the machine
[21:01:07] <WalterN> herm
[21:01:18] <andypugh> Yes.
[21:01:23] <WalterN> that wont happen until this job is done
[21:02:18] <andypugh> If the S3 says "A2-8 on it, and the outside siameter of the spindle matches those drawings, you can be pretty confident. (you can measure the bolt hole centres with the collet chuck in place)
[21:03:28] <WalterN> yeah
[21:03:48] <WalterN> lemme look and see if its two different units or something
[21:04:16] <WalterN> after the part is done
[21:07:00] <WalterN> these things take so long
[21:07:27] <WalterN> had to slow the feed way down because its an interrupted cut
[21:07:57] <WalterN> and 4140 steel
[21:08:32] <andypugh> The Royal S30 will be one unit, bolted to the A2-8 taper on the spindle nose.
