[10:31:03] <MattyMatt> ah most machines are flixible
[10:31:17] <MattyMatt> it's mostly a question of size
[10:31:55] <MattyMatt> I am trying to get away from woodwork tho, so a vertical mill is more my style atm
[10:32:17] <frallzor> I do 90% wood/plastic so this is my cup of tea =)
[10:33:03] <MattyMatt> show CreativeMachines some pics, of what a real flatbed router looks like :D
[10:33:28] <frallzor> wish I had more images than I do =P
[10:33:55] <MattyMatt> ah well, mechmate is easily googled
[10:34:04] <frallzor> http://imageshack.us/a/img267/6893/millcnc.jpg
[10:34:20] <frallzor> messy shop photo
[10:34:47] <MattyMatt> hmm, now I'm in this old familiar environment, I remember how much I like the Sable 2015 as a desktop mill

[10:36:46] <MattyMatt> http://www.cnc-sable.nl/sable-2015-p-21.html?language=en .nl supplier, overpriced
[10:37:02] <MattyMatt> but still half the price of that high-z
[10:37:18] <archivist> CreativeMachines, make whatever you need yourself
[10:37:47] <frallzor> build a MechMate!
[10:37:48] <frallzor> its fun
[10:37:49] <MattyMatt> he is time poor, and moderately cash rich
[10:38:22] <frallzor> pay someone to build it? =P
[10:38:37] <MattyMatt> and that sable does come with drivers and spindle, so isn't ridiculously overpriced compared with importing yourself
[10:38:54] <archivist> CreativeMachines, where in UK
[10:39:23] <CreativeMachines> Whitworth (north Manchester)
[10:39:29] <CreativeMachines> altho i work in Uxbridge, London
[10:39:46] <CreativeMachines> moderately cash rich - lol
[10:39:56] <archivist> in the middle here, Burton
[10:39:58] <CreativeMachines> brb#
[10:40:21] <MattyMatt> compared to "maybe-I-should-jack-this-in-and-go-on-the-dole" matty you are ;)
[10:40:45] <archivist> Dole is well paid
[10:40:49] <MattyMatt> like when I needed a machine, I got out the drawer slides and plywood
[10:41:07] <MattyMatt> I need to make some kids to get a decent dole
[10:41:56] <MattyMatt> I should register all my machines as children :)
[10:42:37] <MattyMatt> lotty the lathe needs new shoes
[10:45:53] <CreativeMachines> lol
[10:49:14] <MattyMatt> making a T-Slot bot does seem pretty simple tho. and T-slot is so cheap at KJN
[10:49:55] <MattyMatt> some reprap bots are getting stiff enough for light milling now
[10:52:22] <CreativeMachines> agreed

[10:53:55] <MattyMatt> if you made one out of 40x80 tslot, with supported rails and decent leadscrews, you'd end up with a sturdier one than that hi-z
[10:54:48] <MattyMatt> that hi-z uses unsipported round rails, and 22mm is nonstandard size so you're stuck with their bushings
[10:56:25] <MattyMatt> £16.45 a metre for 40x80
[10:57:02] <CreativeMachines> ye - ive built my CM1 printer out of 20x60 and its decent already
[10:57:13] <CreativeMachines> which leadscrews would you use?
[10:57:21] <CreativeMachines> my biggest issue is time
[10:57:41] <MattyMatt> ballscrews are best
[10:58:00] <frallzor> balls *giggles*
[10:58:23] <MattyMatt> probably worth it. I read once that acme is 30% efficient, ballscrews 80%
[10:59:52] <CreativeMachines> link to UK supplier? World of cnc or similar?
[11:00:06] <MattyMatt> how pressing an issue is time? can you wait for all the components to come from china?
[11:00:39] <MattyMatt> world of cnc = marchantdice? double the chinese price generally
[11:00:57] <frallzor> I dont like his quailty either
[11:01:05] <MattyMatt> but I think they do make a lot of it themselves, they don't just import
[11:01:13] <frallzor> bought a complete Z-axis there

[19:07:54] <anonimas1> (no discernable twist)

[19:20:22] <anonimas1> I can turn stuff as good as the feedback that sits on the machine allows, that should give a indication of wear
[19:20:43] <archivist> turning accuracy has nothing to do with tailstock set over or axis in line with bed or inline with spindle
[19:21:01] <anonimas1> yeah, but i would see taper if the machine was worn..
[19:21:30] <archivist> depends on length turned and accuracy of measurement
[19:22:15] <anonimas1> I made some shafts and they were +/- 0.001 over a length of 400, when I got the tailstock dialed in
[19:23:20] <anonimas1> tho as soon as i move it it's a mess all over
