[00:19:32] <alex_chally> so uh, at 6pm EST (40 minutes or so) a friend of a friend of mine is livestreaming the eating of a ghost chili

[00:19:42] <alex_chally> er

[00:19:44] <alex_chally> 6pm PST

[00:19:55] <alex_chally> notspam just figured y'all might want to see someone in pain

[00:23:51] <Valen> wth is that?

[00:25:34] <alex_chally> Valen, a ghost chili?

[00:25:37] <alex_chally> it is the hottest pepper there is

[00:25:45] <alex_chally> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bhut_Jolokia_pepper
[00:26:22] <Valen> yeah just read it

[00:26:29] <Valen> anyway gotta dash to dentist

[04:47:25] <madsci44> ive just learned that its very boring where I live without electricity

[04:51:32] <ries> madsci44: hahahaha

[04:52:03] <ries> I frequently have power outages of 6 hours, they work on some cables and they will not announce when the work is

[04:52:23] <ries> I bought a little generator to make sure I can at least fire up two light bulbs and my computers

[05:05:29] <madsci44> yeah here we usually have the random 10 second outage two or three times a week - enough that i know i need a UPS

[05:06:11] <madsci44> 3 hours was enough to teach me that i need a generator ;)

[05:09:08] <ries> madsci44: I have a USP.. runs for a couple of minutes (5 or 10)

[05:09:17] <ries> but enough to put my computer in deep sleep

[05:09:26] <ries> then I can boot up my generator and start the computer again

[05:10:06] <ries> The worst thing that happens is when the power is out for 30 minutes, then to decide to start the generator (hand cranked) and then in a couple of minutes the power goes back on

[05:13:05] <madsci44> hah yeah i can imagine that - as soon as you are prepared for something - it isnt. lol

[05:13:31] <ries> I'm off to bed...

[05:13:34] <ries> till tomorrow

[07:41:47] <Jymmm> Almost 1am here, but just wanted to share before I hit the bed...

[07:41:54] <Jymmm> * Jymmm just bought a laser

[07:42:21] <awallin> co2? for cutting?

[07:42:24] <Jymmm> If I wasn't so tired (been a long day) I think I'd be excited =)

[07:42:41] <Jymmm> Yeah CO2 Laser Engraver (used)

[07:43:16] <awallin> nice, what power?

[07:43:29] <Jymmm> 30W 24"x12"

[07:43:46] <awallin> ok, that is more engraving than cutting then

[07:43:59] <awallin> "iPhone tattoos"

[07:44:15] <Jymmm> Well, not going to cut metal if that's what you mean.

[07:44:31] <Jymmm> http://www.engraversnetwork.com/uls/m300.html
    [07:46:01] <awallin> printer driver...

[07:46:09] <Jymmm> Yep =)

[07:47:11] <Jymmm> I can cut/engrave from CorelDraw, InkScape, DXF, HPGL files directly

[07:47:43] <Jymmm> No CAM software needed.

[07:48:28] <Jymmm> Ok, just wanted to share =)

[07:48:32] <Jymmm> G'night =)

[08:18:17] <theorbtwo> Surely, if you can engrave it, you can cut it, given enough time?

[08:25:27] <alex_joni> Jymmm: I am now too :)

[08:25:50] <alex_joni> cool stuff

[12:24:28] <alex_joni> awallin_: have you ever stacked photos?

[12:24:55] <alex_joni> looking at
http://deepskystacker.free.fr/english/index.html
[12:25:21] <awallin_> yes, that one is popular. I have used a bit. it's quite slow and produces huge files

[12:27:07] <alex_joni> any alternatives I should look at?

[13:22:32] <Valen> I made one once

[14:27:47] <ichudov__> Just wanted to report, on my servo tuning efforts: I almost always now get a following error under 0.001", and when machining at slow speeds the following error is now WAY UNDER 0.001". I interpret this as, the servo system at reasonable speeds (3-10 IPM) is not a source of inaccuracy.

[14:33:36] <fragalot> what about the backlash system?

[14:41:23] <ichudov__> fragalot: I think that backlash is a much bigger contributor to inaccuracy. This is a ballscrew Bridgeport interact mill. . Stepping away for a few min

[16:37:58] <Jymmm> alex_chally: I bought a used laser engraver, alex_joni said he is too, and I was asking if he DID or IS going to

[16:38:45] <alex_chally> ahh

[16:38:57] <alex_chally> Jymmm, what wavelength is that laser?

[16:39:01] <alex_chally> and is the power something nyou can tune?

[16:39:47] <Jymmm> Just a 30W CO2 laser engraver - not for cutting metal.

[16:40:10] <Jymmm> http://www.engraversnetwork.com/uls/m300.html
[16:40:49] <alex_chally> Jymmm, I have been thinking of "sintering" powdered wax using a laser

[17:35:23] <alex_chally> ichudov, sorry, tab complete mistake, I was talking to IchGuckLive

[17:35:40] <alex_chally> I have no patience for finicky little plastic models, and i am impressed by those that do

[17:36:41] <IchGuckLive> most parts are lasercuts

[20:35:39] <alex_joni> 11:25 < alex_joni> Jymmm: I am now too :)

[20:35:48] <alex_joni> so.. not buying a laser

[20:51:38] <Jymmm> alex_joni: then what were you saying?

[21:09:16] <alex_joni> Jymmm: that I'm awake too

[21:09:27] <Jymmm> oh, heh

[21:14:13] <andypugh> I was reading the 'Zone today. It seems that Mach only supports single-pulse threading at the moment. Which strikes me as retrograde.

[21:26:14] <archivist> you need a flywheel on the spindle for single pulse and then of course you cannot stop properly :)

[21:28:34] <skunkworks> I threads great!

[21:28:45] <skunkworks> (from what I hear)

[21:28:49] <skunkworks> (when it works)

[21:30:55] <andypugh> Talking of threads, I have been rebuilding my "bargain" Kurt vice. That uses 1.125 and 1.5 x 8tpi threads, presumably to avoid anyone having the right tap to clean out the threads.

[21:31:16] <skunkworks> heh

[21:32:26] <andypugh> The 1.5 x 8 is left-hand too, but at least there is a reason for that.

[21:33:47] <andypugh> What I don't understand is why the handle-end jaw thread (it is a double vice) is connected to the shaft by a spring-loaded plunger arrangement, and there is a thrust bearing too.

[21:43:21] <andypugh> Does anyone know of the limitations of calling a named subroutine from an MDI_COMMAND?

[21:43:36] <andypugh> (Or do they have to be numbered?)

[22:45:50] <andypugh> Is it possible to force a preview in Axis?

[22:46:46] <andypugh> (For example, a line in a subroutine that makes Axis draw the result of the subroutine, even if that routine is not the currently loaded file)
