Back
[00:17:15] <maddash> BASTARD!
[00:17:18] <maddash> he married her!
[00:17:38] <maddash> give her back!
[01:04:38] <anonimasu> m..
[01:04:50] <anonimasu> I came across the nastiest steel ever today
[01:05:33] <eric_u> I hate the stuff where you can tell a mouse fell into the cauldron
[01:05:43] <anonimasu> never seen that :)
[01:05:57] <anonimasu> a guy at work turned something for someone in it
[01:06:02] <anonimasu> it was a scrap piece off something
[01:06:11] <anonimasu> and when he were going to drill it.. it wouldnt drill
[01:06:25] <anonimasu> so he asked me for it, and I got a new drill that I knew were sharp..
[01:06:33] <eric_u> I swear, some of the bike tubing I used to use had stuff in it that wasnt' supposed to be there
[01:07:12] <anonimasu> and well, I failed at drilling it..
[01:07:29] <eric_u> bed frames are notorious for not being drillable
[01:07:36] <anonimasu> heh
[01:07:46] <anonimasu> this were a piece of round stock
[01:07:58] <anonimasu> it wouldnt cut in the bandsaw either
[01:08:06] <eric_u> seriously, it's the most useless stuff if it's not being used to hold up a mattess
[01:08:18] <eric_u> you probably found a drill rod
[01:08:34] <anonimasu> it was 100mm in dia..
[01:08:43] <eric_u> big drill
[01:08:49] <anonimasu> and we've never worked with that stuff
[01:09:00] <eric_u> I had some that was 30mm
[01:09:02] <anonimasu> scrap piston rod of something..
[01:09:14] <anonimasu> and piston rods are usually some pretty gummy SS
[01:10:31] <jmkasunich> anonimasu: you said the guy was able to turn it?
[01:10:35] <jmkasunich> but it won't drill?
[01:10:53] <anonimasu> yeah
[01:10:58] <jmkasunich> that is weird
[01:11:08] <jmkasunich> lots of things won't do either, if they're hard
[01:11:10] <anonimasu> I thought so too
[01:11:13] <jmkasunich> does it make the drill chatter?
[01:11:17] <anonimasu> no
[01:11:26] <jmkasunich> it just rubs and doesn't cut?
[01:11:29] <anonimasu> it cut a \/
[01:11:32] <anonimasu> and no cutting action
[01:11:43] <anonimasu> makes a dent
[01:11:45] <jmkasunich> what speed?
[01:12:03] <anonimasu> on a manual drill
[01:12:16] <anonimasu> pretty fast, because the tooling was 6mm..
[01:12:20] <jmkasunich> drill press, or hand-held drill?
[01:12:24] <anonimasu> drill press
[01:12:31] <jmkasunich> lots of pressure?
[01:12:58] <jmkasunich> work hardening stuff needs plenty of pressure, each rev of the cutter needs to get under the work hardened layer from the last rev
[01:13:08] <jmkasunich> (you also need slow speed)
[01:13:30] <jmkasunich> and now for something completely different:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3n9hbYwZZqk&feature=related
[01:14:03] <anonimasu> * anonimasu nods
[01:14:21] <anonimasu> well, the guy just welded the mount to it anway to get it done..
[01:14:32] <anonimasu> but, it was a odd thing
[01:15:10] <anonimasu> jmkasunich: well, as far as I know if it's not harder then carbide it'll turn.. :p
[01:15:20] <anonimasu> jmkasunich: with sparks sometimes ;)
[01:22:43] <jmkasunich> oh, duh
[01:22:52] <jmkasunich> I assumed he was turning with HSS
[01:23:04] <jmkasunich> of course, if it is hard, carbide will turn it, but HSS won't drill it
[01:33:58] <anonimasu> yep
[01:42:16] <anonimasu> night
[02:21:12] <cradek> jmkasunich: does he even live through to the end of the tune? he's not looking good
[02:24:33] <cradek> yep
[02:27:20] <skunkworks> all this gun talk..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AlLewWKw-Rw
[02:30:06] <cradek> holy crap, what are they trying to prove?
[02:30:53] <cradek> that one cost them a spotting scope
[02:34:35] <skunkworks> all I can say is ouch
[02:34:51] <cradek> yeah.
[02:35:45] <jmkasunich> who's not looking good?
[02:36:07] <jmkasunich> the piper?
[02:36:09] <cradek> yeah
[02:37:28] <jmkasunich> skunkworks: pretty stupid
[02:38:21] <jmkasunich> the only guy who did reasonably well was the one who shot it seated
[02:38:36] <cradek> the last guy nailed it
[02:38:47] <jmkasunich> ah, just got to that
[02:38:57] <cradek> half of them looked like they'd never shot anything before
[02:39:06] <jmkasunich> did these guys know they were shooting a portable cannon?
[02:39:09] <jmkasunich> yeah, what he said
[02:39:13] <cradek> good question.
[02:40:01] <jmkasunich> I'd like to shoot a 50 someday, but from prone, with a bipod
[02:42:01] <jmkasunich> * jmkasunich is off to hear some tunes
[02:47:39] <toastydeath> is that a nitro express
[04:26:49] <eric_u> adobe stinks, I swear
[04:27:23] <eric_u> I downloaded a doc into my browser, it finally all loaded
[04:27:36] <eric_u> when I try to save it to disk, it goes out and trys to download it again
[04:30:48] <KimK> So what are you complaining about So what are you complaining about
[04:30:57] <KimK> LOL
[04:31:26] <KimK> whaddya gonna do?
[04:31:54] <eric_u> did you know I can curse in Hindi?
[04:32:25] <KimK> I did not know
[04:34:00] <eric_u> I find it interesting that the word for brother in law is an insult
[04:35:32] <KimK> Really? Was there some historical brother-in-law who was particularly annoying?
[04:36:12] <eric_u> implication is that you are sleeping with his sister
[08:42:53] <fenn> 150mmx100mmx40m "bridge mill"
http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.robot01.com%2Fshop01%2Fetc%2Fdetail.php%3Fpcode%3DP0000000002&sl=ko&tl=en
[08:43:18] <fenn> wonder how much 1.5million won is
[10:30:12] <anonimasu> fenn:
http://www.google.se/search?hl=sv&safe=off&q=1500000+won+to+usd&btnG=S%C3%B6k&meta=
[10:30:18] <anonimasu> 1 500 000 South Korean won = 1 162.5 U.S. dollars
[10:31:13] <archivist> expensive for that
[10:31:44] <anonimasu> * anonimasu is avoiding making parts today
[10:32:01] <anonimasu> I have this nasty adapter plate I need to machine for a mill
[10:32:15] <anonimasu> and I did the first op then half of the second and had to take it off the table..
[10:32:16] <anonimasu> :p
[18:24:39] <steve_stallings> steve_stallings is now known as steves_logging
[21:34:34] <fragalot_> fragalot_ is now known as Guest33228
[21:53:21] <stustev1> whew! I finally have the forward and inverse kins for the cinci
[22:02:49] <cradek> yay!
[22:05:11] <jepler> until you find the next shortcoming at any rate
[22:05:14] <jepler> (I mean, yay!)
[22:05:18] <jepler> do we break out the champagne now?
[22:05:28] <cradek> is your silk purse done now?
[22:06:28] <archivist> hehe
[22:06:46] <archivist> or does it still leak oil
[22:06:54] <cradek> that's the other one
[22:07:20] <archivist> I though it was the same beast
[22:15:58] <skunkworks> that is awesome. wait - the cinci isn't the 5 axis beast?
[22:17:08] <anonimasu> skunkworks: why would you have non trivial kinematics on a normal machine?
[22:17:09] <anonimasu> :)
[22:17:16] <cradek> yes it is
[22:17:25] <cradek> the leaky one was the horizontal boring mill but I think he fixed that too
[22:17:52] <skunkworks> ah
[22:18:00] <skunkworks> * skunkworks wishes he didn't have the flu
[22:18:02] <archivist> 5 axis cinci spews oil on the vid
[22:18:41] <archivist> I didnt know he has a worse oil slick
[22:18:44] <skunkworks> ok - the cinci spindle was also disassembled a few times for oil leaks. IIRCC
[22:46:57] <jepler> Using basic math we can compute the bandwidth of the human male penis as 1,687.5 TeraBytes/sec
http://forgetomori.com/2008/science/enlarge-your-penis-data-bandwidth/
[22:47:24] <anonimasu> lol
[22:51:40] <archivist> good one
[23:36:41] <stustev1> :) my next shortcoming is my C ability
[23:38:11] <stustev1> skunkworks: yes the G&L was the oil spewer. It has hydrostatic ways. The bladders were cracked. Oil ran down the machine at about 10 gals/hr.
[23:39:14] <stustev1> cradek: this isn't a silk purse yet. prob nylon :)
[23:39:58] <skunkworks> it still is a purse.. :)
[23:39:59] <stustev1> archivist: the oil on the table of the cinci was sitting there from the lube pump running almost continuously. I slowed it down a BUNCH
[23:40:10] <stustev1> yes - it will be a purse :)
[23:40:56] <archivist> I watch your cinci work with interest
[23:59:54] <skunkworks> heh - another 5 to 8 inches tomorrow
