[22:24:22] <ChanServ> [#emc] "This is the #emc channel - talk related to the Enhanced Machine Controller and general machining. Website: http://www.linuxcnc.org/, wiki at http://wiki.linuxcnc.org/"
[22:24:34] <Phreedom_> Phreedom_ is now known as Phreedom
[22:29:30] <Dmess> we are doing some serious degenerating around here... i'll attest to that.. sorry guys..
[22:58:20] <tomp> toastydeath: yes (just a perp to the line thru sphere ctr) and thats the tool 'attitude' too (doh!) but generating the path might have been tricky for jmk.
[22:59:41] <tomp> um, for anybody, and he did it ( dman toneless language ;)
[23:46:22] <jmkasunich> actually it wasn't all that tricky
[23:46:34] <jmkasunich> thanks to UVW
[23:47:39] <jmkasunich> put XYZ at the center of the sphere, then use U to put the side of the vertical tool against the "equator", and W to move the end 0.1" "south" so you are cutting with a point about 0.1" up the side of the tool
[23:48:00] <jmkasunich> then rotate C thru many turns, while tilting B from +90 to -45
[23:48:21] <jmkasunich> stustev: that is dissapointing
[23:48:37] <jmkasunich> I know there were three of the full size boxes when I first saw them, two later
[23:48:50] <jmkasunich> dunno if they sold one of them, or Tom just didn't know where to look
[23:48:59] <jmkasunich> it is really _much_ better when you are there in person
[23:50:24] <jtr> stustev: I posted a link to your video of the test piece being machined, (to my computer group) and they wanted to see pictures of the finish. The pic is kinda big - mind if I crop it and post it on imagebin?
[23:52:47] <jmkasunich> I'm really dissapointed with Greenfield Tap and Die
[23:53:00] <jmkasunich> I needed a die stock (handle for threading dies)
[23:53:10] <jmkasunich> Mcmaster had two, one for $8 and one for $22
[23:53:28] <jmkasunich> I got the $22 one which turned out to be Greenfield, made in USA
[23:53:32] <jmkasunich> but it is crap
[23:54:30] <jmkasunich> of the three setscrews that are supposed to hold the die in, one is missing, and all three of the tapped holes were drilled so big they're barely threaded
[23:54:36] <jmkasunich> finish is poor
[23:54:49] <jmkasunich> looks like the low end of the cheap chinese crap
[23:55:14] <jmkasunich> sad to see a formerly good company turning out crap these days
[23:55:22] <jmkasunich> </rant>
[23:57:17] <anonimasu_> :/
