[00:40:15] <Twingy> any svn guru's here?
[00:50:07] <cradek> don't think so - we all use cvs
[01:00:24] <stustev> I just tried the debounce in the joypad_hal file. I used the wiki example and added the debounce to the signal as jepler suggested. This helps but still it is not as functional as I would like. When I push the coolant button on the joypad and hold it the state inverts rapidly still. A momentary push is more reliable but still seems to be very much affected by the time of the push. A quick push may sometimes not change state while a slightly t
[01:05:43] <stustev> I should have been a little more specific in one sentence. The duration of the push is the correct meaning not the time of the push.
[01:06:54] <skunkworks> is there a flip/flop in there somewhere?
[01:07:45] <stustev> I have no flip/flop in this example. This is the wiki example for the joypad. I added only the debounce.
[01:10:00] <cradek> stustev: http://wearcam.org/ece385/lectureflipflops/flipflops/
[01:10:05] <cradek> see the T flip flop
[01:10:30] <stustev> will do. thanks
[01:10:40] <cradek> if you want a real toggle I think you can build it up
[01:11:01] <cradek> (I haven't thought it all through though)
[01:11:17] <stustev> If I can I will. If I can't I will be back. Thanks
[01:11:27] <cradek> or, you could sure make a component to do it
[01:13:26] <stustev> I certainly will look at that although I am not a C/python or anything source code programmer. I am an APT NC programmer/machinist. I will try it and see what questions I have. Thanks
[01:17:54] <jmkasunich> hmm... if we added an "out-not" pin to the flip flop, then you could route that back to the input and it becomes a toggle FF
[03:38:44] <ejholmgren> I have this feeling ubuntu will spoil me
[03:39:18] <ejholmgren> I'm used to crying like a little girl after tracking down and installing all the random libs
[03:39:49] <ejholmgren> ./configure
[03:39:50] <Jymmmmm> So, what makes you think that you STILL won't be crying like a little girl for other reasons?
[03:39:53] <ejholmgren> *error*
[03:39:56] <cradek> if you miss that, try building a rtai+smp ubuntu kernel for us
[03:40:06] <ejholmgren> hunt/download more crap
[03:40:09] <ejholmgren> ./configure
[03:40:12] <eric_u> is that really that hard?
[03:40:12] <ejholmgren> repeat
[03:40:33] <ejholmgren> just saying that clicking around in synaptic is nice
[03:40:41] <eric_u> I hate downloading a ton of packages
[03:40:59] <eric_u> there still are programs like that
[03:41:27] <eric_u> there is a r/c flight simulator where you have to download and install a ton of stuff, and most of it is obsolete
[03:42:11] <eric_u> what kernel do you want?
[03:43:04] <cradek> 2.6.15 from dapper, with smp and rtai
[03:43:17] <ejholmgren> mysql workbench being one of them
[03:43:48] <eric_u> dapper is the current ubuntu on the live cd?
[03:44:04] <cradek> yes
[03:44:19] <cradek> I built with smp a few times, but never did get it to boot
[03:44:49] <eric_u> I'll have to think about what machine to test it on
[03:45:05] <cradek> my main problem is the only SMP machine I have is a PII
[03:45:19] <eric_u> shouldn't be that big of a problem
[03:45:34] <cradek> to be useful to us, the kernel should also run fine with one processor
[03:46:02] <eric_u> can you do that?
[03:46:33] <cradek> I'm pretty sure you can (not considering rtai)
[03:46:34] <eric_u> when you built, did you start with the config in /boot?
[03:46:49] <cradek> yes, with some tweaks, be sure you get them
[03:47:06] <cradek> the -magma kernel puts a config in /boot too, you ought to start with that
[03:47:45] <eric_u> the plain kernel config is not in my /boot
[03:47:49] <eric_u> just the magma version
[03:47:57] <cradek> strange
[03:48:07] <cradek> maybe it comes with linux-headers or something
[03:51:47] <eric_u> in the old days, smp or even single proc with the advanced irq controller would hang a single processor machine w/o the irq controller
[03:59:11] <eric_u> is there a list of emc related packages available for apt-get?
[03:59:25] <cradek> my desktop machine has one processor and is running 2.6.15-28-686 #1 SMP PREEMPT
[04:00:11] <eric_u> I've seen reference to running smp on uniprocessor, but haven't really paid attention
[04:00:24] <eric_u> my main kernel building nowadays is for stripped down computers
[04:00:34] <eric_u> haven't done the realtime thing for a while
[04:04:57] <eric_u> config is rtai 3.3 and is kernel ok?
[04:12:41] <chr0n1c> cya
[05:01:59] <eric_u> I forgot what a pain it was to make RTAI
[05:14:05] <SWPadnos> next assignment: 64-bit SMP RTAI kernel :)
[05:14:23] <Jymmmmm> screw 64, 256 baby
[05:24:58] <ds3> is that 64 bits on SPARC, MIPS, or PPC?
[05:24:59] <ds3> ;)
[05:27:37] <Jymmmmm> Z80
[05:31:13] <eric_u> their patch designations don't make any sense
[05:32:06] <eric_u> what kernel does hal-linux-2.6.15-i386-1.3-00.patch go with?
[05:48:59] <eric_u> oh well, building linux without RTAI just to see if it will boot
[06:58:23] <anonimasu> morning
[06:58:43] <alex_joni> hi
[07:08:05] <anonimasu> what's up?
[07:08:53] <alex_joni> reading about tcpd wrapper
[07:12:06] <anonimasu> ah
[08:01:05] <Jymmmmm> alex_joni you playing with your new switch huh?
[08:16:24] <alex_joni> Jymmmmm: err. no
[08:16:28] <alex_joni> that one was busted
[08:16:45] <Jymmmmm> was it really?! are they going to exchange it?
[08:19:34] <alex_joni> nope.. it wasn't a new one
[08:19:39] <alex_joni> so I simply didn't buy it
[08:19:49] <alex_joni> Jymmmmm: it had non-free molecules (ROFL)
[08:20:15] <Jymmmmm> heh
[08:20:28] <alex_joni> something like this: http://web.nether.net/lists/cisco-nsp/11849.html
[08:38:05] <anonimasu> :/
[08:38:10] <anonimasu> alex_joni: cool error message
[09:16:34] <robin_sz> * robin_sz awakes to yet another perfect day in Geneve
[09:18:02] <alex_joni> same here :)
[09:18:47] <Jymmmmm> There is fire and brimstone flowing from the cracks in the streets here, Eh just another typical day in California.
[09:18:59] <alex_joni> 21C tomorrow, today only 19C
[09:23:43] <robin_sz> 24C today, same as yesterday :)
[09:23:58] <robin_sz> they are serving free beer out on the terrace, as usual
[09:27:58] <alex_joni> sux you'll go home eventually
[09:55:03] <Jymmmmm> G'Night Folks!
[11:55:04] <robin_sz> the weather here is bad though ... very bad ...
[11:55:28] <robin_sz> I think .. wait .. let me check ... I think there is a cloud in the sky
[11:55:45] <robin_sz> hmmm .. difficult to tell, its too far away to see properly
[13:00:56] <stustev> how do I look at yesterday's chat?

[13:44:59] <Dallur> I'm logging. I don't understand 'die', Dallur. Try /msg logger_emc help
[13:45:13] <Dallur> ohh well, can't blame me for trying
[14:48:32] <Martin_Lundstrom> Hello everyone
[14:48:40] <Martin_Lundstrom> Dallur, are you around?
[14:58:07] <Dallur> hmm to late
[15:00:15] <alex_joni> Dallur: wanna kill the logger.. eh?
[15:07:11] <Dallur> nahh just kidding :d
[15:26:01] <alex_joni> bbl
[15:48:21] <skunkworks_> Hi Guest876
[15:54:37] <Dallur> skunkworks_: if you are that rude to our Guests they will just leave :Þ
[15:55:35] <skunkworks_> I guess
[15:55:35] <skunkworks_> ;)
[16:12:26] <robin_sz> result!
[17:02:44] <stustev> thanks
[17:33:36] <anonimasu> finally the dro is mounted..
[17:47:15] <robin_sz> hurrah!
[17:47:31] <anonimasu> it works great :)
[17:47:46] <robin_sz> my heart explodes for you
[17:47:56] <robin_sz> err ...
[17:49:37] <SWPadnos_> SWPadnos_ is now known as SWPadnos
[17:50:09] <anonimasu> heh
[19:09:02] <lerneaen_hydra> 'lo
[19:17:11] <alex_joni> 'lo
[19:25:00] <skunkworks_> and on the subject of emc2
[19:25:02] <skunkworks_> http://www.cnczone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36027
[19:26:37] <alex_joni> skunkworks_: you can suggest using an and2 block between axis.0.amp-enable and spindle on
[19:27:11] <alex_joni> although I must say I'm a bit surprised it doesn't turn off the spindle
[19:27:20] <skunkworks_> Thank you - I am not hal literate yet.
[19:27:57] <skunkworks_> is that easy to test there? I don't have an emc2 box here
[19:29:55] <alex_joni> loadrt and2
[19:30:03] <alex_joni> addf and2.0 servo-thread
[19:30:24] <skunkworks_> - I ment the spindle shutting off after a limit hit ;)
[19:30:25] <alex_joni> net machineon axis.0.amp-enable and2.0.in0
[19:30:46] <alex_joni> net spindleon motion.spindle-on and2.0.in1
[19:30:59] <alex_joni> net spindleok and2.0.out parport.0.pin-10-out
[19:31:14] <alex_joni> skunkworks_: that should be about it
[19:31:15] <skunkworks_> but thanks ;) that helps
[19:32:26] <alex_joni> if you want to test.. setp axis.0.neg-lim-sw-in 1
[19:32:48] <anonimasu> hm..
[19:36:27] <alex_joni> I don't think it's wasy to set the spindle off
[19:36:35] <alex_joni> and not sure it's needed
[19:36:52] <anonimasu> me neither..
[19:37:04] <anonimasu> sure a hard limit switch should probably estop the machine and enable bakes..
[19:37:11] <anonimasu> though that's a runaway condition..
[19:37:31] <anonimasu> I dont know how you manage to hit them on a machine with a correct setup
[19:38:03] <alex_joni> anonimasu: it does.. (stop motion and enable brakes).. but spindle keeps running I think
[19:38:17] <alex_joni> anyways.. you can get that if not homed properly
[19:38:36] <anonimasu> alex_joni: Well that in itself is retarded..
[19:39:01] <alex_joni> anonimasu: retarted is too harsh
[19:39:05] <alex_joni> it might only be misinformation\
[19:39:26] <anonimasu> alex_joni: I dont see why you would ever do that..
[19:39:38] <alex_joni> maybe they don't know you can set up a limit switch asa a home switch
[19:39:46] <alex_joni> and properly set up software limits
[19:40:11] <alex_joni> anyways.. gotta pack (leaving again)
[19:40:35] <anonimasu> well, I dont think you should be able to do coordinated motion/full auto without homing first..
[19:41:03] <anonimasu> alex_joni: I dont have limits/home switches yet, but I know that's the first thing I'll mount if I start on another machine
[19:41:08] <anonimasu> :)
[19:41:27] <alex_joni> I'm happy without on my femtomill
[19:42:02] <anonimasu> how do you keep track of where you were if you kill power overnight?
[19:42:19] <anonimasu> or if you have a fixture?
[19:42:29] <anonimasu> where your fixture zero is at?
[19:43:39] <alex_joni> I have POSITION_FILE=foo.txt in my ini
[19:43:47] <alex_joni> shutdown, start again next day.. same pos
[19:44:01] <alex_joni> I only lose microsteps..
[19:44:03] <anonimasu> or if you ever stall your machine..(if it's a stepper one)
[19:44:07] <alex_joni> as the steppers power down
[19:44:11] <alex_joni> anonimasu: bummer..
[19:44:36] <anonimasu> :)
[20:06:37] <anonimasu> gah..
[20:06:45] <anonimasu> at 8krpm this part is down to 2 minutes..
[20:06:55] <anonimasu> and with 2krpm it takes 208 minutes
[20:07:15] <anonimasu> yay gotta love 3d contouring on slow spindle speeds.
[20:10:29] <skunkworks_> anonimasu: pictures?
[20:11:51] <anonimasu> skunkworks_: no
[20:11:56] <anonimasu> just a test..
[20:11:58] <anonimasu> im not cutting it..
[20:12:36] <Jymmm> anonimasu: Well, why not?
[20:14:07] <anonimasu> Jymmm: why cut something I have no use for?
[20:14:49] <Jymmm> anonimasu what a copout... like nobody has ever bought something they have no use for!
[20:15:18] <skunkworks_> Jymmm: looks the guy is still working on the plugin.
[20:15:36] <Jymmm> skunkworks: Ah, VERY cool.
[20:17:20] <skunkworks_> he posted a patch on Apr 09, 2007 5:32 pm
[20:18:15] <anonimasu> I need a 2HP 10krpm spindle.
[20:18:24] <anonimasu> though I need a grinder.
[20:18:35] <anonimasu> a ID grinder ;)
[20:21:13] <skunkworks_> jymmm: my nick isn't registered. everything is open.
[20:21:44] <Rugludallur> hmm looks like when I open a new gcode file in axis the halui.mode.is-auto is set True for a second or two, would that be a bug ?
[20:22:02] <Jymmm> skunkworks /ns help register
[20:28:45] <lerman> register dob32444
[20:29:02] <lerman> aa
[20:29:03] <cradek> ouch
[20:29:07] <alex_joni> Rugludallur: strange
[20:29:21] <alex_joni> lerman: someone needs a new passwd
[20:29:41] <lerman> yeah. that's why i used a disposible one.
[20:30:03] <cradek> Rugludallur: no, you have to be in auto mode to load a file, so axis has to do that
[20:30:03] <Rugludallur> alex_joni: im reporting a couple of issues now @ sourceforge, some pretty bad others not that bad
[20:30:22] <lerman> actually, I was telling you my birthday. I expect lots of presents (or maybe presence). :-)
[20:30:39] <alex_joni> 32th april 1944?
[20:31:02] <skunkworks_> 3/24/44
[20:31:06] <cradek> more likely to be march 24
[20:31:12] <Rugludallur> cradek: ok, it just looks strange because I for one did not expect to enter auto mode untill the gcode is executed
[20:31:12] <lerman> that's what alex_joni said.
[20:31:32] <skunkworks_> :)
[20:31:35] <skunkworks_> quick
[20:31:51] <lerman> I should say 19440324 to meet some ISO standard or other.
[20:32:11] <alex_joni> lerman: you'll always have one you're breaking
[20:32:14] <alex_joni> a standard I mean
[20:33:59] <anonimasu> Jymmm:
[20:34:00] <anonimasu> http://www.cuttingedgecnc.com/cncrouter.htm
[21:15:49] <alex_joni> good night all
[21:15:59] <Jymmm> anonimasu Yeah, that sounds like the nightmare I went thru.
[21:16:03] <Jymmm> nit alex
[21:16:06] <Jymmm> e
[21:16:55] <Rugludallur> nite alex
[21:36:23] <Rugludallur> for subtracting a float pin from another float, which would you rather use sum with neg gain or offset fb ?
[23:56:45] <KiwiChris> Hi-ho, Got a quick question about limit switch functionality.... Anyone about?
