[01:58:09] <skunkworks_> I should stop saying in post that the 5i25 'acts like 2 printer ports on steroids...'
[01:58:13] <skunkworks_> posts
[01:58:43] <Tom_itx> heh
[01:59:57] <pcw_home> well its called Superport on the PCB so its partially my fault
[02:00:58] <Tom_itx> any plans for 'big brothers' for it on the way?
[02:01:42] <pcw_home> NSA big brother?
[02:01:52] <Tom_itx> heh
[02:02:23] <Tom_itx> bigger better versions...
[02:04:26] <pcw_home> well theres the 5I24 and 6I24
[02:04:51] <Tom_itx> huh, transferring files from 10.04 to wheezy i find a thumbdrive to be much slower than a SD on a USB adapter
[02:06:51] <jepler> pcw_home: hm, coming up empty on 6i24. I assume it's intended to be the Express version of the 5i24?
[02:07:14] -!- syyl has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds]
[02:07:29] <pcw_home> Yes
[02:09:45] <pcw_home> I'm itching to make a card with the Artix chips
[02:10:09] <pcw_home> only problem is the smallest one is pretty big
[02:11:08] <Tom_itx> what makes them stand out over what you're using?
[02:11:50] <pcw_home> faster and denser mainly also 2x 1 ms/sec 12 bit A-Ds
[02:12:22] <Tom_itx> are those still xilinx chips?
[02:12:28] <jepler> Tom_itx:
http://www.xilinx.com/products/silicon-devices/fpga/artix-7/
[02:13:08] <pcw_home> the cheapest one is $30.00 dollarish
[02:13:43] <Tom_itx> strictly bga i suppose
[02:14:23] <pcw_home> I think so but am not sure
[02:14:41] <pcw_home> native PCIE gen2.0
[02:15:03] <jepler> yeah I am only spotting bga packages in that pdf
[02:15:32] <jepler> ball pitch 0.5 - 1.0mm
[02:15:57] <Tom_itx> board cost goes up too then
[02:16:02] <Tom_itx> more layers
[02:16:14] <pcw_home> once you get above a certain speed the long wiggly power and ground wiring of QFPs becomes a major problem
[02:16:32] <pcw_home> too much ground bounce
[02:17:06] <jepler> the analog part sounds nice
[02:17:08] <pcw_home> we use BGAs all the time on 4 layer
[02:17:36] <pcw_home> split power planes of course
[02:17:41] <Tom_itx> right
[02:17:48] <jepler> but the biggest mass of people who want analog inputs (reprap types) are mostly too cost-averse to buy nice electronics
[02:18:34] <cradek> jepler: I was at the shop today and for some reason all my spare opto22 modules are white and black - no reds.
[02:18:43] <cradek> lots of whites of different speeds
[02:19:24] <pcw_home> If they made smaller ones I would try the for motor control, as it is a STM32 with a 4x
[02:19:25] <pcw_home> 5ms/sec 12 bit A-Ds is cheaper that a A-D chip that does the same
[02:19:52] <Tom_itx> speaking of analog inputs... the saleae logic analizer now offers +-10v analog
[02:20:11] <Tom_itx> dunno if any of you use them
[02:21:28] <pcw_home> ack... after last change hm2_eth gives real time errors at startup at 2 KHz
[02:21:39] <jepler> pcw_home: uh oh

[02:25:57] <jepler> pcw_home: so it tested OK after I added the arp pinning, and then tests bad after the iptables change?
[02:26:38] <pcw_home> well not sure its really bad and I dont have the filter installed
[02:27:05] <pcw_home> just different (no complaints before)
[02:27:50] <pcw_home> Yes the arp pinning was fine
[02:28:33] <pcw_home> how do I add that filter?
[02:28:36] <jepler> so at startup I imagine you're seeing:
[02:28:37] <jepler> Note: Using POSIX realtime
[02:28:39] <jepler> and
[02:28:40] <jepler> hm2_eth: WARNING: Unable to restrict other access to the hm2-eth device.
[02:28:44] <jepler> ?
[02:29:25] <pcw_home> Yes
[02:30:15] <jepler> hm

[02:33:27] <jepler> maybe that turns out to be not OK
[02:35:45] <jepler> (but damnit it should be OK)
[02:40:02] <jepler> yes, I'm reproducing here that with period1=500000 and the latest change, there are frequently realtime delays at startup

[20:50:17] <andypugh> I have a VM running buildbot 2.6
[20:50:38] <andypugh> I thought I would try put the lathe-fanucy config. It doesn’t work :-(
[20:51:44] <andypugh> “Could not open command file ../core_sim.hal”
[20:51:56] <andypugh> It looks like the place in the tree I put it was a bad choice.
[20:54:01] <andypugh> The new demo config layout seems to use unfamilar folder names too.
[20:54:55] -!- basiclaser has quit [Excess Flood]
[20:55:04] <andypugh> Should I move the config into sim/axis (from sim/ ) or make it a local copy of the config files used?

[21:12:05] -!- Deejay has quit [Quit: bye]
[21:12:32] <jepler> I think the use of "../" paths is not handled by the config picker's copy logic
[21:13:03] <jepler> but if the problem is simply needing another copy of core_sim.hal, src/Makefile is the place to edit to cause another copy to be made
[21:15:42] <andypugh> I think part of the problem is the new layout of copies of sample configs
[21:16:37] <andypugh> But the config would only ever have worked in a situation where a different sim-axis config had already been copied across
[21:17:39] <andypugh> I didn’t put the demo in sim-axis because it would “pollute” that folder with remap stuff. I didn’t put it in remap because it needed sim-axis stuff :-/

[22:22:33] <jepler> andypugh: another option would be to make config picker's copy smarter, then
[22:29:22] <jepler> or move the file that needs duplication into common and arrange for it to be copied
