[00:28:07] <memleak> what's the top of the line mesa card nowadays?
[00:30:04] <andypugh> I would guess the 5i22 by the price :-)

[00:47:32] <Tom_itx> cradek, that code causing 2.6 to burp came from here:
http://linuxcnc.org/hardy/dapper/index.php/russian/forum/47-hal-examples/9518-pauseresume-button-using-one-input
[00:52:37] <seb_kuzminsky> memleak: depends on what you want
[00:52:54] <seb_kuzminsky> if i was building a machine i'd go for a 5i23
[00:53:24] <Tom_itx> 5i25 too small?
[00:56:37] -!- gambakufu has quit [Ping timeout: 272 seconds]
[01:06:26] <andypugh> There are more daughter cards available.
[01:07:45] <andypugh> My machine is based around a 5i23. I have Resolvers (7i49) smart-serial devices (7i44 to 3 x 8i20 + 7i64) and a 7i39 connected.

[01:30:04] <memleak> how elaborate can you get with a series of mesa cards with linuxcnc? andypugh that seems like quite a chain reaction!
[01:30:34] <Tom_itx> how elaborate do you want to get?
[01:31:29] <andypugh> On that same machine I could also connect a 7i80HD to the ethernet port (for all the same cards again) and a 7i43 to the P-port (for somw of them)
[01:31:55] <Tom_itx> i'm testing boards but i've got a 7i43 with a 7i47 and 2 sserial cards tied off the 7i47
[01:32:01] <andypugh> Basically, if you can plug them in, then they will work.
[01:32:19] <Tom_itx> a 7i84 and 7i71
[01:32:29] <andypugh> At some point you will run out of CPU to service them
[01:32:36] <Tom_itx> yeah sserial is pretty nice for adding IO
[01:33:56] <cradek> Tom_itx: have you figured out what's wrong with it? what has changed in master to break it?
[01:34:05] <andypugh> But a machine with one PCI port, one parallel port and a single ethernet card could support 4608 IO lines, and more than that inside the spec (sserial can handle 96 IO linse per card, but most cards only have 48)
[01:34:15] <Tom_itx> i haven't had a chance to test it anymore
[01:34:47] <Tom_itx> i was reviewing the logic when i found jt's post
[01:35:02] <andypugh> With deep enough pockets 10,000 GPIO lines is doable

[16:29:22] <cradek> we've had some in the past, but not lately
[16:32:17] <memleak> ok
[16:33:52] <memleak> RTAI 4 should be stabilized, cleaned up and fixed before next linuxcnc livecd, i made a lot of progress the last few days with the tree, just FYI

[16:34:10] <memleak> in theory it will actually be more stable than the RTAI 3.9 stuff
[16:36:16] <memleak> i've been re-working the rtai math support a lot as well to fix 64-bit linuxcnc support but i cannot guarantee it will actually work as planned
[16:38:15] <memleak> rtai math functions will only use userspace libraries such as glibc without any use of in-kernel math support. it might hurt performance for serious number crunching but for linuxcnc it should iron out all the bugs
[16:38:43] <memleak> at least for the sincos sqrt etc etc functions
[16:41:36] <mozmck1> 64-bit will be easier for me to do testing on as that is what I run mostly now.

[20:25:06] <skunkworks> pcw_home, got the motherboard and 7i80 back - thanks
[20:37:21] <cradek> what was the verdict?
[20:38:16] <skunkworks> peter thinks it is a driver issue with the 7i80 hardware. He was able to reproduce it with his. I think micges needs to take a look
[20:38:30] <cradek> oh good, he reproduced it
[20:38:47] <skunkworks> yes - Suprisingly it wasn't me..
[20:39:00] <cradek> did your parts help him reproduce it?
[20:39:59] <skunkworks> I am a little fuzzy about how he reproduced it. I know he did't boot my motherboard/harddrive - but hooked my 7i80 into his system..
[20:40:11] <cradek> weird
[20:40:13] <cradek> whatever :-)
[20:40:14] <Tom_itx> cradek do you happen to know if halui.program.pause / .resume work with momentary contact or do they need to be hard toggled on?
[20:40:31] <cradek> I'm sure they trigger on rising edge
[20:40:40] <cradek> they're meant to be hooked to momentary panel buttons
[20:40:53] <Tom_itx> i was thinking of using oneshot or something coming off those AND gates and leaving out the toggle and toggle2nist functions
[20:41:18] <skunkworks> halui isn't realtime.... So you may need to strech the pulse..
[20:41:29] <cradek> yeah it has to be long enough to be "seen"
[20:41:38] <Tom_itx> 10ms enough?
[20:41:42] <Tom_itx> i'd hope
[20:41:45] <cradek> it's meant to be pressed by a meat-based robot
[20:41:54] <cradek> and we're slow
[20:42:03] <Tom_itx> yeah 30-50ms
[20:44:18] <Tom_itx> i was gonna use edge.9 or oneshot.9
[20:44:52] <cradek> you should keep the "pause" command on until you see the "is-paused" feedback
[20:45:13] <cradek> any time-based solution is going to be wrong
[20:47:50] <Tom_itx> the thing is, i wanted to add the spindle.on as part of it so it can't resume if the spindle is still off
[20:48:22] <Tom_itx> and the spindle button can't shut it off if it's still running
[20:48:25] <cradek> I don't think that invalidates my advice
[20:48:34] <Tom_itx> no i didn't say it did
[20:48:40] <cradek> aha
[20:48:51] <cradek> I read "the thing is" as saying "yeah but...."
[20:48:53] <Tom_itx> it just complicates the logic
[20:48:56] <cradek> sure
[20:49:00] <cradek> that's why I'd use ladder :-)
[20:49:23] <Tom_itx> andy mentioned some funciton in halui that may do similar
[20:50:05] <Tom_itx> can't remember if it was multiswitch or another one
[20:52:37] -!- mork has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
[20:53:12] <Tom_itx> how do you launch the ladder gui?
[20:53:20] <cradek> it's on the file menu
[20:53:25] <Tom_itx> k
[20:53:37] <Tom_itx> if i don't get anywhere with hal i'll try that
[20:53:39] <skunkworks> (if you have it loaded as a hal componant... (I think)
[20:53:56] <Tom_itx> i had it up once quite a while back but forgot how i did it
[20:53:57] <cradek> yeah you have to load the hal parts before you can run the gui
[20:54:05] <cradek> look at the demo-sim-cl config
[20:54:30] <skunkworks> I think the ladder for the k&t is stall called demo-sim-cl ;)
[20:54:36] <skunkworks> still
[20:55:00] <seb_kuzminsky> my ladder is called that too :-)
[20:55:16] <skunkworks> lazy bastard
[20:55:26] <seb_kuzminsky> heh
[20:55:33] <Tom_itx> i went thru the logic for adding the spindle as part of the pause/resume but never got it to work right
[20:56:42] <Tom_itx> cradek i'm thinking though that toggle2nist is holding the pause / resume in a state and that may be interferring with the axis pause
[20:57:06] <Tom_itx> so i was gonna try pulsing them instead
