[16:36:06] <cradek> he says P0.5 (mm) fixes it, so it's probably plain old short moves

[16:59:14] -!- ravenlock has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
[17:00:02] <cradek> in general, you need to combine the segments into a path and plan that, instead of planning individual segments
[17:00:16] <pcw_home> right and apply some fancy blending (spline, hodograph whatever)
[17:00:45] <cradek> yes you still want to eliminate sharp corners that are inherent in gcode paths
[17:01:12] <cradek> simple matter of programming, as a venerable coworker of mine used to say in these situations
[17:01:24] <pcw_home> Yes
[17:01:52] <jthornton> he needs a better machine
[17:03:20] <cradek> we have an alternate 80%-finished planner that does that for 3-axis machines, does not support tapping/threading and maybe not css either
[17:04:05] <cradek> I imported it (from bad old emc1 code) a while back and made it sorta run

[21:32:47] <cradek> mhaberler: you can see the name in the other step: http://buildbot.linuxcnc.org/buildbot/builders/precise-x86-rtpreempt-rip/builds/12/steps/environment-report/logs/stdio
[21:34:33] <seb_kuzminsky> mhaberler: i installed the wheezy rt-preempt kernel you pointed me at
[21:34:53] <mhaberler> well I' just finding out
[21:35:27] -!- tjb1 has quit [Quit: tjb1]
[21:35:32] <mhaberler> cradek: well I know its a failure of debian/configure to do the right thing depending on what is installed, and that one has to do with the kernel version - not sure how this page helps me here
[21:35:47] <seb_kuzminsky> and i should say, i haven't looked at the build failures so i don't know why they're failing
[21:35:56] <seb_kuzminsky> i just noticed that 2.5 and master build successfully
[21:36:09] <seb_kuzminsky> i wouldnt be surprised if the problem is infrastructural on the buildbot
[21:38:36] <cradek> you were complaining about not being able to divine the kernel version, and I wanted to help by showing that it's printed there...
[21:39:48] <mhaberler> ah I see, sorry - well I reverse engineered that from 'rtai-modules-3.2.0-39-generic-pae' already..
[21:40:01] <mhaberler> seb: any chance we get branch tags on failure messages?
[21:40:47] <seb_kuzminsky> that would be useful
[21:40:52] <seb_kuzminsky> i'll look into it
[21:45:56] <KGB-linuxcnc> 03git 05rtos-integration-preview3-merged-into-master fe3a31c 06linuxcnc 10docs/src/gcode/m-code.txt * docs: remove merge leftover

[21:55:24] <linuxcnc-build> build #14 of precise-x86-rtpreempt-rip is complete: Failure [4failed install-missing-build-dependencies] Build details are at http://buildbot.linuxcnc.org/buildbot/builders/precise-x86-rtpreempt-rip/builds/14 blamelist: Michael Haberler <git@mah.priv.at>
[21:57:20] <seb_kuzminsky> this problem is because debian/configure doesn't know what build dependencies are needed for the rt-preempt kernel, it still thinks we need the rtai modules
[21:58:28] <mhaberler> just got the doc build failure out of the way, this is the next one
[21:59:54] <seb_kuzminsky> did you check for other lurking merge turds?
[22:00:32] <mhaberler> I think I caught all of them, we'll see
[22:00:48] <seb_kuzminsky> sweet
[22:02:47] <mhaberler> with that one, I'm unclear why it was left in the file to star with, no diffs: http://git.mah.priv.at/gitweb?p=emc2-dev.git;a=commitdiff;h=fe3a31cb21f7cba9c152db3acdb62bef046bd319
[22:05:15] <seb_kuzminsky> it looks like there was an earlier merge turn committed, and then a later merge complained about the first one
[22:05:23] <seb_kuzminsky> note the two HEAD markers
[22:07:10] <mhaberler> hm. aja
[22:09:50] <mhaberler> must have been older, the rtos-integration-preview3 branch I merged into it doesnt have it
[22:12:27] <seb_kuzminsky> two commits added one "<<< HEAD" each:
[22:12:29] <seb_kuzminsky> 87351a62 (Michael Haberler 2013-02-04 20:09:01 +0100 389) <<<<<<< HEAD
[22:12:32] <seb_kuzminsky> 04b18caa (Michael Haberler 2013-03-12 21:53:08 +0100 390) <<<<<<< HEAD
[22:12:37] * seb_kuzminsky shrugs
[22:15:34] <cradek> I wish git would at least whine if you commit conflict markers. it whines about trailing whitespace! git is weird.
[22:17:32] <seb_kuzminsky> did you see the git koans that went around this morning? http://stevelosh.com/blog/2013/04/git-koans/
[22:17:56] <seb_kuzminsky> it's a good reminder of how awful git is -- it's easy to forget, since git is so awesome
[22:18:12] -!- mattions has quit [Ping timeout: 264 seconds]
[22:18:32] <cradek> the way it works is awesome - it's only the UI that's laughably awful
[22:19:33] <cradek> that's funny. just today at $DAY_JOB someone suggested using an alias to always have --ff-only, and we were all sad that the alias system didn't let you do that
[22:20:14] <seb_kuzminsky> the implicit merge in pull is the source of much sadness :-(
[22:21:10] <seb_kuzminsky> i've considered putting branch.autosetuprebase in out site-local global git config
[22:21:39] <seb_kuzminsky> what's keeping me back is the fear that people will think that's how git works, and then mess up when they use it outside of work
[22:23:13] <cradek> I also doubt that's what you always want
[22:24:01] <cradek> oh hey, merge.ff
[22:24:36] <seb_kuzminsky> maybe it's just me that likes rebases instead of merges nearly always
[22:25:41] <seb_kuzminsky> doesnt merge.ff=only make it so you can't merge (for example) 2.5 into master?
[22:25:56] <seb_kuzminsky> git *is* weird
[22:26:33] <cradek> heck I don't know what it does
[22:26:45] <seb_kuzminsky> that's how i read git-config(1)
[22:26:53] <cradek> it'd be funny if we didn't have to use it
[22:27:01] <cradek> git's UI, I mean
[22:27:18] <seb_kuzminsky> git was originally not meant to be used by humans
[22:27:30] <seb_kuzminsky> it was meant to be a back-end for writing revision control systems on top of
[22:27:59] <seb_kuzminsky> hence the distinction between "plumbing" (back-end) and "porcelain" (UI) that you sometimes see mentioned in the docs
[22:30:13] <cradek> yeah, but the porcelain is simply hostile
[22:30:43] <seb_kuzminsky> don't say that! you'll summon the hobgoblins!
[22:31:02] <cradek> but wizards can get used to anything, and then they go all stockholm-syndrome
[22:31:11] <seb_kuzminsky> heh
[22:31:33] <cradek> haha, only serious
[22:31:44] <seb_kuzminsky> yeah: uncomfortable chuckles around the room
[22:32:29] <seb_kuzminsky> i guess i prefer functional plumbing to pretty porcelain
[22:32:47] <cradek> yeah, other VC systems have neither
[22:33:23] <seb_kuzminsky> svn's porcelain is not bad (from what i remember from years ago when i used to use it), it's just limited by its ineffective plumbing
[22:34:02] <cradek> yeah, ick
[22:34:11] <seb_kuzminsky> elsewhere in the news: today was 70 degrees and sunny here in Boulder, and tomorrow they're forecasting 9-13 inches of snow
[22:34:25] <cradek> I never have used it for anything real. it seemed (and still seems) actually worse than cvs to me.
[22:34:32] <seb_kuzminsky> spring is definitely upon us
[22:34:36] <cradek> wow, haha

[22:48:08] <cradek> I don't really remember planning to build one, but we do have a purchased one now
[22:48:21] <cradek> got groceries with it yesterday
[22:49:11] <linuxcnc-build> build #912 of checkin is complete: Failure [4failed] Build details are at http://buildbot.linuxcnc.org/buildbot/builders/checkin/builds/912 blamelist: Michael Haberler <git@mah.priv.at>
[22:49:31] <cradek> at this store someone bags for you, and pushes a cart out to load into your car - they are pretty surprised.
[22:51:11] <seb_kuzminsky> it's maybe confusing that the buildbot just complained twice about one actual build failure
[22:51:31] <seb_kuzminsky> up above, it was the precise-x86-rtpreempt-rip builder that failed, and just now it was the checkin builder
[22:51:37] <seb_kuzminsky> what actually happened was this:
[22:52:07] <seb_kuzminsky> mhaberler pushed, and that caused the checkin builder to start building ("checkin" is a left-over from the old cvs days, maybe it should be called "push" now)
[22:52:36] <seb_kuzminsky> the checkin builder doesn't do any work itself, it just triggers all the "build & test" builders, including precise-x86-rtpreempt-rip
[22:52:53] <seb_kuzminsky> those triggered builders start up, and one of them failed and complained about it here on irc
[22:53:03] <seb_kuzminsky> all the others kept going, and succeeded
[22:53:33] <seb_kuzminsky> when they are finally all done, the control returns to the checkin builder, it notices there was a problem, and it complains about it here on irc and quits
