[07:36:56] <seb_kuzminsky> mhaberler: what is libudev used for in rtos-integration-preview3?
[07:37:00] <seb_kuzminsky> which realtime kernels need it?
[07:37:47] <mhaberler> see rtapi/userpci and the hal/drivers/mesa-hostmot2 diffs
[07:38:04] <mhaberler> all userland thread styles need it - it is kernel-independent
[07:38:28] <mhaberler> part of the substitute for the kernel pci environment
[07:39:25] <seb_kuzminsky> so libudev-dev is needed if USERMODE_PCI==yes?
[07:39:30] <mhaberler> it turned out the uio driver wasnt needed after all, so he digs sysfs for memory maps etc and that's what udev is libudev is used for I think
[07:39:36] <mhaberler> yes, this is the dependency
[07:40:02] <seb_kuzminsky> hardy doesn't have libudev, it's too old
[07:40:24] <mhaberler> NB this is pretty much synonymous with thread-style posix,xenomai-user or rt-preempt-user
[07:40:30] <mhaberler> oh
[07:40:56] <mhaberler> was that that the unsatisfied dep problem the bb complained about?
[07:41:02] <seb_kuzminsky> yeah
[07:41:39] <seb_kuzminsky> the debian/configure script determines what the build target is (currently just sim or realtime)
[07:41:47] <seb_kuzminsky> where "realtime" equals rtai
[07:41:58] <seb_kuzminsky> it probably now needs to know about the other realtime options
[07:41:59] <mhaberler> right, that needs fixing - depending on kernel
[07:42:14] <seb_kuzminsky> i think you sent out an email enumerating all the different options
[07:42:24] <seb_kuzminsky> i'll see if i can teach debian/configure about them
[07:42:29] <mhaberler> well configure tries hard to autodetect and do something sensible depending
[07:42:41] <seb_kuzminsky> that'll fix the rtai build on hardy
[07:42:52] <mhaberler> you'll be my hero, really - let me know where I can help and how
[07:42:54] <seb_kuzminsky> this is a different configure, with the same name but different ancestry
[07:43:02] <mhaberler> I know
[07:43:26] <mhaberler> I dont know enough about the debian package building backdrop not to blunder there
[07:44:05] <mhaberler> configure does this wrt detecting rt:
[07:44:17] <seb_kuzminsky> i guess it's about time to stand up a bunch of buildslaves to support the new realtime environments? it seems like development is starting to get more mature
[07:44:48] <mhaberler> yes, I'd think so - it would help with packaging this work
[07:45:14] <seb_kuzminsky> ok, i'll take a look at packaging
[07:45:26] <seb_kuzminsky> thanks for all your work on this, it's very helpful
[07:45:28] <seb_kuzminsky> bbl
[07:45:35] <mhaberler> I probably should post/document all the new build options; actually I think that should be a manual section
[07:45:40] <mhaberler> so it's updated
[07:47:39] <mhaberler> I'll write up a manual fragment
[07:50:18] <mhaberler> it seems some folks succeeded with installing libudev-dev from jaunty, but it might be pushing the envelope: http://forum.openframeworks.cc/index.php?topic=3282.0

[19:42:04] <jepler> This set of patches makes v2.5 build on debian kFreeBSD. (there are additional wrinkles with master, as redis doesn't build out of the box and it's not packed by debian either) http://emergent.unpythonic.net/files/sandbox/linuxcnc-debian-kfreebsd.patches.mbox
[19:42:31] <jepler> .. it also passes all runtests, and doesn't stop lucid/rtai from building and passing all runtests.
[19:51:00] <BenJackson> why kFreeBSD?
[19:53:10] <jepler> because I happened to install a kfreebsd system
[19:53:26] <jepler> .. which I'm doing for reasons primarily unrelated to linuxcnc
[19:54:30] <BenJackson> ah, I didn't know if it had achieved particularly good realtime behavior or something
[19:54:40] <jepler> I doubt it
[20:09:41] -!- ve7it has quit [Remote host closed the connection]

[21:39:00] <kwallace> What is a good way to see the changes in the source related to a key word? I tried the search box on the git website but got nothing.
[21:41:39] <BenJackson> key word in the commit? or in the diff?
[21:42:23] <kwallace> commit and grep.
[21:43:00] <BenJackson> git log -S will search the diffs
[21:43:09] <BenJackson> the "pickaxe"
[21:47:27] <kwallace> Okay, I was in summary and clicked "log" on the top left, then did a commit search in the box at the top right. I think it gave me what I need. Thanks.
[22:04:12] <cradek> I'm surprised whenever the web interface proves useful for something - it's so bad
[22:04:28] <cradek> I would have given the same advice Ben did - use git log on your local system, not the web thing

[22:09:06] <kwallace> I'll have to look into the "git log" method because I may need to use it with other repositories that don't have a web interface. I did find that OUTPUT_SCALE was fixed 5 years ago, though.
