[17:08:12] <awallin> mhaberler: so I just tried the xenomai kernel that has packages in the default repos for 12.04. it fails to boot with some kernel panic. this really isn't so simple.. :(
[17:09:07] <mhaberler> there is the xenomai _userland support_ package in the default repos, that doesnt give you a xenomai kernel
[17:09:34] <mhaberler> either use my debs from here:
http://static.mah.priv.at/public/xenomai-debs/
[17:09:52] <mhaberler> or compile off my repo, that has several success reports too
[17:09:57] <mhaberler> them debs work;)
[17:10:20] <awallin> I couldn't get your debs to install on 12.04 (dependency issues)
[17:11:10] <mhaberler> you only need:
http://static.mah.priv.at/public/xenomai-debs/linux-image-3.2.21-xenomai+_0.1_i386.deb http://static.mah.priv.at/public/xenomai-debs/linux-headers-3.2.21-xenomai+_0.1_i386.deb to boot the kernel
[17:11:33] <mhaberler> the panic was likely a missing update-initramfs before the reboot
[17:11:57] <mhaberler> the dpkg -i should do that, for some reason sometimes it doesnt
[17:12:27] <mhaberler> can you pastebin the dependency error? hard to guess what that could be
[17:12:31] <awallin> dpkg -i complained about libc6 for example
[17:12:45] <awallin> I stubbornly chose a 64-bit 12.04 again, maybe that is wrong :)
[17:12:55] <mhaberler> oh man
[17:13:07] <mhaberler> you're out on the fringe, sorry
[17:13:13] <awallin> so it should work on 32-bit 12.04 ?
[17:13:23] <mhaberler> yes, several people do
[17:13:32] <awallin> I mean the debs, and following README.xenomai in your repo
[17:13:41] <mhaberler> 64 bit buys you troubles plus exactly nothing on top
[17:13:50] <awallin> ok :)
[17:14:42] <mhaberler> could well be that was the issue
[17:15:45] <awallin> ok so I'll re install from usb-stick a normal 32-bit 12.04 and then try your debs
[17:15:55] <mhaberler> I have that very kernel on a virtualbox 12.04 precise default install working just fine (except of course for lousy latency under vbox, but that is to be expectetd)
[17:16:01] <mhaberler> yes, that should fly
[17:16:18] <mhaberler> then the userland support:
[17:16:39] <mhaberler> http://static.mah.priv.at/public/xenomai-debs/xenomai-runtime_2.6.1_i386.deb http://static.mah.priv.at/public/xenomai-debs/libxenomai1_2.6.1_i386.deb http://static.mah.priv.at/public/xenomai-debs/libxenomai-dev_2.6.1_i386.deb
[17:16:46] <awallin> so only "headers" and "image" debs forst, then a reboot?
[17:16:49] <mhaberler> dpkg -i those, done
[17:17:04] <awallin> first
[17:17:07] <mhaberler> no, dpkg -i those
[17:17:28] <mhaberler> then 'update-initramfs -c -k <version>
[17:17:32] <mhaberler> then update-grub
[17:17:34] <mhaberler> reboot
[17:18:13] <awallin> ok, just to be clear 1) dpkg -i headers+image 2) update-initramfs 3) update-grub 4) reboot 5) dpkg -i <rest>
[17:18:22] <mhaberler> perfetto
[17:18:31] <awallin> :) we'll see...
